What is the accuracy of Iskander missiles

  • Russia possesses the largest and most diverse nuclear missile force globally, inherited from the Soviet era. Throughout its conflict with Ukraine, Russia has effectively deployed various missile systems, including ballistic and cruise missiles. Among these, the 9K720 Iskander stands out for its speed and accuracy, often proving to be a potent weapon on the battlefield.
    One notable instance of the Iskander missile's effectiveness was seen last year when the Russian military introduced a new tactic. They fired Iskander missiles multiple times at the same target, surprising the Ukrainian forces and causing significant damage. This tactic was possible because Iskander missiles can launch two missiles from a single vehicle, enhancing their firepower considerably.
    Russia's heavy reliance on this missile really shows how much faith they have in its abilities. It leaves us questioning just how accurate it is, and is it truly that formidable?

    I would consider Ukrainian conflict a world war honestly. It’s collective West vs collective South. Ukraine just got convinced into using their people to test Russia’s defences on NATOs behalf , but the collective West didn’t realise that during all conflicts Russia first gets punched really hard, learns and comes back with a win. Russian military is much stronger now than it was before the war, and it has large scale combat experience (not chasing flip flop wearing beduins) and it knows how to deal with Western weapons now. The West should have been friends with Russia not enemies. Now the world is going to shit thanks to the decision makers the people of the West have elected.

      I see this conflict as pointless. West has history of bombing many countries and has accepted illegal separation of Kosovo that belongs to another country. So now we are heading towards ww3 or maybe are in ww3, because Ukraine is bombed and they lost 20% of its territory? War over something that has been accepted as normal by Western standards? That seems detached from reality, and politics and media of both sides are completely opposite from one another. That is dangerous.

      Taking out a patriot defense system WHILE BEING TRANSPORTED ISN'T REALLY AN ACHIEVEMENT

    • @TacoTomtheBomb
      @TacoTomtheBomb Месяц назад

      Taking out 2 Patriot missile systems as the video stated, is not the same as taking out two Patriot launchers. Each system is comprised of up to 8 launchers. So while taking out one quarter of a system's replaceable launchers is good for Russia--especially for propaganda--it is no where near as impactful as destroying 2 Systems. Of course destroying any air defenses is important, especially in this new style of warfare. Had the launchers been properly used as intended, further to the rear, set up ready to fire, instead of sitting there at the front for far too long, the outcome likely would have different. The Iskander seems effective at what it does, but is limited by its range.

      It's limited by its range only due to the short and medium range missiles agreement between the US and Russia, which now is off the table btw as far as I know. And which means that the range of newly produced missiles isn't necessarily 400-500 km anymore. But even 400-500 km is pretty much enough for Ukraine war theater. For greater ranges there are bigger better toys in Russia's arsenal, Russia can pretty much reach anything anywhere on this planet, and then some more.

    • @TacoTomtheBomb
      @TacoTomtheBomb Месяц назад +1

      @@Sevastopol91 Yeah there are a lot of weapons that haven't been used yet, probably best to keep it that way. I for one don't need to see a successful missile strike from half way around the world. Regional defensive missiles are one thing, long range ones will get us all in trouble because sooner or later someone will launch one.

      *400km is too short to hit America from the Russian territory* anyways, except in Alaska. And it that case, the launchers would be *vulnerable to air strikes.*
      In fact, none of the 36 nations of the American continent, nor the dependencies of extra-continental nations on the continent of America, really felt the need to develop a weapon specifically to counter the Iskander missile, because *they didn't see it as a real threat on their territory.*
      *The situation in Easter and Central Europe and Asia is very different* and as *diverse* as the economic characteristics of each nation. The case of Ukraine is particularly dire because their budget was a bit small to face such a threat, and this nation never really prepared for war. They had no plans to attack anyone, were trying to have the best international relations possible, and thought that all the other nations around them, including Russia, would had much better things to do than try to destroy them at any cost. Now it's quite late to find clean and safe solutions to this (deterrent, I mean), so I expect to see dirty solutions only.

    The Iskander 9M723 / 9M729 missiles are only used for targets from 200 to 500kms due to its cost and scarcity (even in 2024, only 38units/month are produced). The most heavily used missiles are the smaller M542 and M544 both only 300mm diameter but use the same guidance system as 9M7 series with range of only 70-220kms. Current production is around 120 units of M5 series per month. This is why Ukraine is running low on surface to air missiles. NATO is not keeping up with Russia in supply of Patriot type missiles. Ukraine will soon have huge losses.

    Iskander is a variant of the name Alexander in cultures such as Iran (Persia), Arabia and others throughout the Middle East, Caucasus and Central Asia. In Egypt, its bearers are mostly of Christian (Coptic) descent. Originally referring to Alexander the Great. That's why I think it's fantastic that this excellent rocket has that name. Because it mostly refers to a great military leader, one of the greatest in history, and because its name connects a multitude of cultures that live both in Russia itself and in the regions next to Russia. Perhaps the very thought of naming a weapon is foreign and disgusting to some, since weapons are used to kill, on the other hand, we live in a violent world. And in a violent world, we unfortunately still need weapons. P.S. Well, if that's the case, at least it should have a nice name, if it "must" exist..
