- Probably the quickest fly that you will ever tie!
This little comparadun midge is the 'bees knees' when it comes to simplicity and presentation. It sits low in the surface and can be tied in whatever colour you require. Use a hackle that is a little larger than standard for the hook size, this makes it more visible at distance.
Hook: Mustad Heritage R30 # 18 or smaller
Tying thread: Sheer 14/0 Black
Rib: Sheer 14/0 Black
Hackle: Medium Dun

Phil is from Utah, where I live - this is a staple fly on our local tailwater, the Provo River. I know this fly is also very commonly used in this same color scheme to imitate BWOs, esp. the tiny ones we get in the fall. But it also works well as a midge given our late winter Buffalo midge hatch.
That's great, thank you for the info.
Very much honour and appreciate your great work, Sir!!
Thank you👃
Thank you.
Thank you!
Fantastic as always. I bet a great pattern in olive as well. Only one way to find out. Thanks for all you share in these videos, Barry.
Thanks, I'm sure it will work just as well in olive.
Nice done, I like the way it sits so low in the water. Thanks👍
Glad you like it Jim.
Thank you so much for sharing this fly,
MSG Leum
My pleasure

What does the wax help with?
Hi Geoff, I do a whole chapter on wax and its uses in my new book out later this year. But in short it helps with everything, it grips materials, it prolongs the life of your flies, it stops difficult/slippery materials from slipping... every tyer should use it!
@@Thefeatherbender thank you for the reply. I've used was on dub ING, just not like this. Thanks again.

Thank you 👍
@@Thefeatherbender You are very welcome you never fail to excel. I do this one with a variant too, a simple drop of Pearl Pink enamel on the shaft above the point.
