I own the sl2 and have for a couple of years now. If your interested you can check out some of the films I’ve made with it. Great camera at a great price.
Matti, you are reviewing a budget camera but your sample footage is smooth, please share if you were handheld or using some of your professional gear to smooth out the tracking motion, ie. where the camera was moving with the subject. Please fill me in, thanks.
Hey man, I just wanted to thank you for your videos in general. I think you do a fantastic job and always appreciate your attitude and your down to earth outlook on life. It's easy for me to get a bit obsessed with gear, so you help me slow that down a little and think more about creativity than obsessing over gear so much. You have a beautiful family btw. I think that God is blessing you and your work. Thanks again.
Great video! but the Panasonic G7 is by far the best budget mirrorless! 4k 24fps, 1080p at 60fps and a mic input all for a similar price and often even a little cheaper! :)
TravelFeels That would be a good one to review then for budget cameras. I simply don’t use 4k on my LUMIX G7 and find myself picking up my G7X more often than not. I just love the image Canon produces straight out of the box.
Yes! That’s what I did. Owned the m10 and a couple years later moved to the sl2 and still use it to this day form my client work and personal projects on my channel.
Thanks for being upfront about your relationship with Canon, makes perfect sense. This camera is definitely a decent option for people who want to get started!
I own one of these cameras and use it often currently because I’m on a long trip and couldn’t bring my 80D. There are some critical limitations to this camera. First the auto focus is slow and often takes a long time to find the focus, sometimes just failing and I have to help it by focusing manually. Secondly it’s limited to 1080p at 25 FPS (shooting in PAL). Audio is poor and you get crazy wind noise outside. There is no way to connect and external mic so I use a clip on recording to my iPhone.
Kinda underwhelmed by the M10. Kinda cool for it's form factor (sensor, swappable lenses etc.) but I think for an all-round vlogging camera from Canon, the G7x II is the one to go for.
Audio is soooooooo important! The lack of a mic jack on this camera is a dealbreaker for me. I know you can work around it, but that becomes a pain in the ass.
Thanks for this review. Even though its nearly a year later, it served me well. I need something small and serviceable to take in my boat with me, other than a GoPro, for shooting discussion/education segments and B roll, as well as something with a microphone input. This seems like it will do the trick, and, at the current price tag, I won't feel AS upset if I manage to get it wet or damaged somehow. Thanks again Matti!
Matti... ask your friend at Canon to send you the SL2. It uses EF-S and EF lens, as opposed to the EF-M mount on the mirrorless bodies. So you can take the lenses with you when you upgrade. It shoots 1080p @ 60 fps. It's small, but not as small as this one. But has a fully articulated flip out screen and a mic input. So some of the things you didn't like about this camera are resolved with the SL2. I'd love to hear your take on how it compares with the bigger more expensive cameras in Canon's lineup.
This is the camera I'm using right now. I think it's pretty good in terms of simplicity. For a beginner you can learn the basics and that's good, because I don't know anything at the moment
I’d love to see you work with any of the Fujifilm Cameras. I’ve been using the X-T20 and X-T2 for about half a year now and they’ve been fantastic for me.
I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the Canon M6, same form factor as the M10 but it has 1080p 60, dual pixel auto focus and a mic in jack. The only thing that turns me off about it is the flip up display vs the flip out. Canon really needs to ditch the flip up display and go with the flip out on the M line the flip out offers so many more options when it comes to viewing angles. I also wish Canon had more options in wide fast glass for the M series. Jason
A review of either the EOS M6 or Rebel SL2 would be nice. Both share the same 24mp sensor as on the 80D. They also both also have Dual Pixel AF and mic input. I've got the 6D Mark II and love it, but sometimes I just want to carry around something a bit lighter.
Great vid, Matti. For anyone interested in getting INTO videography and photography - START SMALL. Every creative videographer and photographer I know has stories of buying TOO much too soon. Get something in your budget that works, and grow from there. You'll be amazed how much you can do with a simple, affordable setup. I'm glad that Matti is sharing realistic camera options to get you going.
Hi Matti, can you do update video on your 6d mark 2? I want to get one but I heard many bad review about its dynamic range, but none of those review are on video dynamic range. Thanks
I bought the 6D2 after you said it was really good, don't worry I don't regret it and like it a lot. I don't know if you have tried it, but Canon M6 is a great little camera, it has the flip up screen, mic input and has a higher pixel count than the M10, oh and it has Dual Pixel AF!
Interesting thanks! Not having 60fps at 1080p is really a big problem because you cant get high quality slow motion shots :/ I still would recommend the g7x as a buget cam Shout out to the notification squad :D
it is been my travel camera for a year, i did videos without knowing anything about video o editing but it turn out very good! i love to watch this video before... to know what was my little one capable of! thanks matti subscribe from now one
Dude it's a great budget camera, especially when you compare it to things like the T5i or anything lower. Same sensor size, good color codec, same recording size options for 30p, 24p & 60p as the T5i. If just starting out, it's definitely a proper buy. Especially because you could save on buying this and then use the extra money for things like a zoom H1 or something for better audio. Overall, worth it if you are starting out and learning your ways around it.
Great video as always! The 200D and maybe something else slightly more advanced from the EOS M Series with better autofocus would be worth a look, as they both tend to hit the sweet spot on people’s first ILC budget.
Hey Matt, I just looked and I think you might have gotten the mount incorrect. The M series only take the EF-M mount not an EF-S. You have to have the adapter to mount EF-S and EF. The EF-M mount is smaller than the EF-S.
7:43 "If I have to fight with the camera to get what I want, then it's not the camera for me"... ... Matti dropping some nuggets of universal wisdom - true to virtually any situation in life. One more reason to love this channel.
You will need an external mike and recorder to record decent audio in the wind. How to fit a mic in the hotshoe and see the flip up screen ? Better off with the 200D as it has an external mic input, and the screen flips out side ways, ie, not clashing with hotshoe mounted lights or mics. RUclipsr and landscpe photographer Thomas Heaton has just switched to the 200D for vblogging - the video quality of his 200D is great.
I just got my first dslr, a Nikon d3200, and it is incredible. I looked into EOS M also, but I like the d3200 better :) I like the dslr look vs the mirrorless. The d3200 is pretty cheap and has stepped up my film quality SO much! a 14 year old filmmaker...
Thats awesome dude, I wouldn't say its the best budget camera for filmmaking out there, but If it works for you then that's great. I've been using the d3300 for the last year and a half and have been struggling with trying to get cinematic results. I was always getting gear lust for insane cameras like the 1DX II, and I didn't think I could get beautiful B roll without 4k or 120fps. Recently though, I've learned that its not about the camera, but the artist (and you can get great slowmo with 60fps too!). Good luck with your new rig man!
I own the M3. Which does have a mic jack. Pretty nice for straight up vlogging once you stick a mic on it. The M6 and M5 are the good ones within this series. They shoot 1080p with 60fps. Slap a 11-22 on it and you have yourself a very nice mini vlogging camera that you can do slowmo b roll with.
Could you do possibly a vlog about your thoughts on 2018 -2019 future of video/photography... what you envision it would possibly be in the near year or so. I asked because my background is in fashion design/ graphics. There are a lot of trend that happens... sometimes the old comes back, a few months ago they started bringing back the Polaroid but modern... My question I guess does it also appear in film making, if people started to use film then could this happen in the video/photorgaphy world?
@@fatheringautism I have the original EOS-M and the G7. Use the G7 as a B camera now but if I had to go back to my beginning days and choose it'd be the one. You've got the guts of a GH4 with a few extra tricks thrown in versus the guts of a Rebel. And if you know how to set it up and which lenses to use the G7 is a really solid performer. The Canon needs more help to shine, which admittedly it can do. They're both good, don't get me wrong, but for most purposes the Panny is out in front.
I just picked up a Lumix FZ300 and LOVE it for $550. 4k, 120fps up to 240(shitty quality but...), flip screen and mic input. Perfect transition from smartphone vlogging/videos.
If you want a small canon dslr buy the EOS M(one gen). With magic lenterne is clearly better and cost just 300$ with lens and small EF adapter on eBay ! (Log, 1080p 60fps...)
I've been curious about the Canon mirrorless so thanks for the video! One thing though, I think you said it has an ef-s mount, but the mirrorless series, I believe, has ef-m mounts.
good thing about this cannon, if you are starting, it can be used on smaller gimbals, helping you to learn the ropes of B-rolls and vlogging...I guess it's a great starting point.
If size does not matter and you are in the USA, please consider going after the G7 instead. Almost the exact same price and much more features. Solid lens selection and you can upgrade to the GH series and use the same lenses I believe. If you want something compact this is probably perfect.
If you just wanna try use your cellphone, getting already with my 6S decent shots. In 4K if I like. Yeah, lenses are an issue but I think these days you can have a good start with your phone
I hope so... I bought a canon t6 rebel like 2 months ago and I love it buuuut it only records at 1080p, it has pretty much the same settings as this camera. But to be honest i love my eos t6 :D maybe Matti could do a review about this model.
Future proofing is such a silly concept. I like how different decades have different looking footage and if the content is good, it really doesn't matter if it's super high resolution.
I’m just starting out vlogging and went for a Canon G7X mk3 compact. It’s a cracking stills camera and takes great video, has the flippy up screen and a mic input. I considered the Osmo Pocket (not great for vlogging and didn’t want the bag of expensive necessary accessories) and Canon M50 (i already have a Nikon Pro SLR for stills and didn’t want a second interchangeable lens outfit). I concluded that the G7X iii is a great travel companion for stills (when I couldn’t bring my SLR) and video, especially with a Rode VideoMicro mic.
Not a fair comparison to put the two images side by side vertically when the light on your face is falling from your right hand side. Maybe sharing the screen horizontally would have been easier to compare. And by the way, what program/plug in did you use to make the slowmo since the M10 can only shoot 30p?
Hi Matti! Thanks for this review. Would love to know what YOU think of the Canon G7X Mark II ... please please, pretty please with cherry on top? Thank you! Btw, I'm a student in your Udemy class. You're a natural-born teacher. :)
My Question has always been, how does a camera like this hold up to smartphone cameras, like the S7 or S8 is the changeable lenses that big of a gain or win ?
Tom sailing and bikes thank you i thought the same! Has so many things that this camera lacks and it isnt considerably more expensive. Normal price is 600 and i got mine on blackfriday with canon cashback bonus for 483€. Love it so far!
I've used an EOS-M, the original in the mirrorless series, since 2014. I bought it for a trip to the US, trying to keep the weight down. With another long trip coming up, to Chile, I bought an EOS-M6 body recently. This does 1080p at 50 or 60 fps, so might be something worth you reviewing.
I really wish a small camera like this used EF lenses. It’d make it so much more compatible and so much easier for beginners to enter in to a camera system and then upgrade without starting over. Shots look astonishing though!
I did - very good value for the money. I bought a package on Amazon for about $500. Also, there are LOTS of tutorials on YT for that camera since its so popular. When I upgrade I'm going to Canon, but at the $500 price point I think its the best deal out there. Does not have an audio input, so if you're using it for blogging you'll need an external external recording device. Also, the kit lens is crap - as with all cameras at that price. Get a 50mm prime lens. I got a Nikkor manual lens for about $100 which is really cheap for the quality, which is very very good.
That was a wonderful video presentation. I really do like that camera. Were you using the 15-45mm kit lens while you we’re filming your family on the beach?
That's the one I have!!! When I bought it I was only concerned with making cinematic video. Am getting use to the post stuff so hopefully soon I'll start uploading stunning content
I really wish Canon didn't change the lens mounts from DSLR to mirrorless. I would bet a TON of people would buy the mirrorless bodies if they were EF and EF-S mountable. I'll make the assumption that there was a reason behind this but it feels a little like they're forcing people who own, depend on, and respect Canon to buy an additional set of lenses.
TravelFeels they don't have much when it comes to wider aperture though. Just seems limited for higher end stuff unlike Sony's mirrorless line... ya know? And the adapters make the lenses massive on the mirrorless system lol
The thing about DSLR and mirrorless design is that the flange distance (the distance between the lens mount surface and the surface of the image sensor) is much larger on a DSLR (to make room for the mirror getting out of the way when taking a shot). If you were able to physically mount a DSLR lens on a mirrorless camera, the DSLR lens is designed to focus much farther back than the sensor is positioned inside a mirrorless camera, so they are physically incompatible This, however, is why it's possible to make adapters to put DSLR lenses on mirrorless cameras - the flange distance difference means you can fit an adapter in there to manage the physical mount difference (including electronic connections on the fancier ones) and have the image focus on the correct spot. It also makes focal reducers like the Metabones Speedbooster and others possible - they are adapters that convert lenses for DSLRs with larger-size sensors for use with mirrorless cameras with smaller-size sensors to focus more light onto the smaller sensor - thus gaining back a wider angle of view - and increasing maximum aperture. A very nice win! THe other option which no camera maker has yet done is to make a mirrorless camera that's physically just as deep as their DSLR so it has the same flange distance, and can thus use their existing lenses without an adapter. Rumor has it this *might* be Canon's wacky mirrorless plan for their upcoming full-frame mirrorless camera, but we'll see. I call this wacky because it means the camera would be unnecessarily larger.
genjii931 Thank you! That's a very helpful description because I was looking this up and everything you mentioned at once is spread in bits and pieces all over Google lol. That makes sense when you describe the physical limitations in design and how to make this happen you would need a bigger body altogether eliminating one of the mirrorless systems biggest advantages of small size. 👍👍
This Camera is around $600. For around $400 you can get a lot more features in the Lumix gx85 which has nice colors, stabilization, 4k and changeable lenses. The 12-32 kit lens is also pretty wide. The built in mic also pickups a great deal of ambient surrounding sounds, which can desirable for travel videos. External recorder can be had for $80. Infact you could put together a pretty awesome kit for around $1000 with it, if you ebay GX85 - $350 Phantom 3 4K - $400 Zoom H1 - $80 Comica shotgun or Lav - $35 Handheld Stabalizer < $100 Spend rest on Lights or get the Crane M - $350
Michael Kiddox .... I realise that I'd missed the mention of the mount at that point in the video.... and yes, Chris should of said EF-M mount. Thanks Michael.
What I really need is a camera with interchangable lenses, clean HDMI out that doesn't have a time limiter.... harder to find than you'd believe seeing that I'm trying to use it for a high quality webcam (streaming set up) with a shallow DOF
Wow! Great video again! 0:35 soo true. I’m 14 and with all my tips I made a few bucks and just by photography and real estate my collection looks like this: Canon T5i DJI Spark Dji Osmo Gimbal Go pro It’s pretty fun at the age of 14 have a kind of job like this! Not my quote but if you put your mind to it really anything you think of can be somewhat possible if not completely possible!!!
Great stuff. However, you were actually wrong about the mount. Canon EF-S mounts support all EF lenses. For an example, you can mount a Canon L series EF lens on a camera with an EF-S mount. On the other way around, you can't use EF-S lenses on EF mounted cameras.
Panasonic g7! The kit lens will give you a 85mm equivalent that will get you shallow depth of field. Then get one of the cheap 25mm 1.8 and you got bokeh for days. Not to mention it has a mic input, full articulating screen, great control layout and better video options (60p and 4k at 24p and 30p). Not the best for vlogging but if your trying to do more traditional narrative work it's such a good deal. And you get a really competent stills camera too.
I'm loving my new Canon M6 for vlogging my little photo adventures, I picked it up refurbished from Canon for $499! Also, the camera is an M-mount and with the adapter, you can mount all EF and EF-S canon lenses :)
Love the colors and the focus of Canon cameras, but my personal opinion, if you want a great footage save up some more and go for EOS 5D mark II, that's what I'm doing right now! And would love to get your thoughts on my first vlog ^_^
trying to pick something in between, but as far as I ran my research, 5D MK II, has pretty much everything you need for a good start, what's your opinion about that?
Philip, the 5d2 (I have one) is 10yrs old now, and still takes good photos as long as the iso is not too high, but the video looks 10years old now, ie the video is soft compared to current standards. A SL2/200D will give you much better video for the same money.
I own the higher-end cousin of this, the M6 and it's pretty good! It's definitely not as cheap as this, but it went on sale for like 800 CAD last Christmas. It's the camera that's always with me (+my phone and polaroid I guess) 😁
So it's basically not a tiny cinematic beast of a camera but it's an ok vlogging camera even though the sound sucks. Nice clickbait title. And no, just because there's a ? behind the title, doesn't mean it's not clickbait or less unnecessary. You create some good quality content, but this video was not good at all in my opinion.
And this review seems rushed. The info about the lens is wrong (it only directly accepts M lenses, both EFS and EF lenses need the adaptor). If the review is aimed at newbies and a first camera choice, they are getting the wrong info from the get go.
I use an M10 as an everyday camera with the 22mm on as standard, and use the adaptor with old glass for a bit of experimentation. At £289 with the 15-45mm in the UK, it's a steal.
Hi. I know that you are not a huge fan of Sony, but they have a pretty good selection of budget cameras. For examle I got myself the Sony A5000. It is a camera with a small form factor. This camera costs 360 dollars with the kit lens. You are getting 1080p at 60fps, APS-C sensor, flip out screen, good auto focus and more. The Sony A5100 and A6000 are better, but are more expensive. Please reply on this comment. I would really aprecciate if You do so!
Video Idea/Request: Scenario: you just got the Canon 6D MkII, pulled it out of the box... what do you do first? What all settings do you change? Both for photography and videography. If there is a setting that you change, however benign, why do you make that change?
I have a 1DX MkII but I recently picked up an EOS M6 for a cruise I was going on; I wanted something easy to carry around the ship all day. Honestly I was super impressed, especially after post processing. Canon's ILC's don't get much love but the quality really isn't bad.
Panasonic gx85 offers best bang for buck. 4k, Cinelike D, 1080 60p, stabilized sensor, stabilized lenses and dual IS. Costs a bit more than that tiny Canon. Of course, we can talk about color rendering, lens selection, sensor size etc. ...
I just picked up a m6, with the kit lens and most importantly...the 22mm! I'm just getting used to shooting with it, but all signs point to great video capability in a TINY package!
It's a giant step up for me in my film making gear. I've only really used my phone and a gopro until now. I'm really excited to start applying the stuff that I've learned here! Next step...a computer that can handle the editing process! Thanks for all the good stuff man!
The reason for AF differences is that the M10 only has Hybrid AF II (Phase + Contrast) autofocus, and the other cameras you mentioned have Duel Pixel AF which is far more accurate.
I have the Sony a6000. It was less than $500 for the body and it has 1080 60fps and uses any of Sony's interchangable lenses. APSC sensor and 11fps for stills too. I would highly recommend you take a look at it.
EF-M lens mount so the adapter is even needed for the EF-S lenses. m43 can be made cinematic with the many affordable native lenses. It's close to 16mm film just like APS-C is close to Super 35. Dual pixel and menus are where Canon are king. Colours can be tweaked and nearly always a profile that's better than standard. Sony have Deep and Panasonic have Natural.
Who wants to see more budget camera reviews????
Love to see those videos!
Me
TravelFeels please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I would love it!
TravelFeels Yep! And btw, it’s EF-M -mount 😎
Would love to see you review the Canon Rebel SL2/200D. It seems to be incredibly similar to the 6DMii & the 80D, as far as video specs are concerned.
I own the sl2 and have for a couple of years now. If your interested you can check out some of the films I’ve made with it. Great camera at a great price.

it's not an EF-S mount. EF-S and EF are kinda the same. this camera is EF-M mount 3:23
Yes yes mistakes happen
add an adapter, and you can go back to your old EF/EF-S collections
Great video! but the Panasonic G7 is by far the best budget mirrorless! 4k 24fps, 1080p at 60fps and a mic input all for a similar price and often even a little cheaper! :)
Just got my dream camera but I'm here anyways. Gear geeks relate.
lifelikejosie been researching to drop about 5k on a Sony vlog/vid set up but still here seeing what’s good lol
I know what you mean
And what camera did you get??
Lumix GH5! I.LOVE.IT.
Yaaassss. Congrats! About to check your channel out!
So save a little more and get the SL2 to compensate for he shortcomings? Specifically autofocus and external mic.
Yea I agree! Haven’t tried it tho
TravelFeels That would be a good one to review then for budget cameras. I simply don’t use 4k on my LUMIX G7 and find myself picking up my G7X more often than not. I just love the image Canon produces straight out of the box.
Fathering, yup, the 200D has better AF, external mic input, and the screen flips out sideways so it is out of the way of a hotshoe mounted mic.
Yes! That’s what I did. Owned the m10 and a couple years later moved to the sl2 and still use it to this day form my client work and personal projects on my channel.
I would also recommend the Lumix G7 with the kit lens, you can get some decent results with that.
Thanks for being upfront about your relationship with Canon, makes perfect sense. This camera is definitely a decent option for people who want to get started!
"ahh who am I kidding, I texted canon" 😂😂😂 love it

Still rocking a 60D, EOS M (1st gen) and just got a 5D2 last fall!

Always good to see another TravelFeels video! Happy Monday to everyone!
Adrian Nuno Happy Monday! 😁🙌🏻
Thanks man. :D
So good to have you here! 🙌🏻

The Panasonic Lumix G7 is also a great camera under $500 with interchangeable lenses and a mic port too!
We have like 3 g7 in our studio we love them
Ronit Singh Idk about G7 but I know GX7 & GX85 both shoot 4k with interchangeable lenses.
Yeah, great cam - and the g85 with the IBIS is even better!
Yup, the G7 is amazing!
G7 its made in china ???

Yep it’s all about just getting out there and making something. Don’t worry about fancy gear
Been considering this camera! Thanks for the review
It’s definitely interesting!
Those cinematics looked surprisingly good!
Hi Matti, can you do update video on your 6d mark 2? I want to get one but I heard many bad review about its dynamic range, but none of those review are on video dynamic range. Thanks
first and current camera is the eos m10, its not the best but for my budget it's pretty great! glad to see it's getting some recognition
Nice man 🙌🏻
Unless you looking for 4K or 120fps...you can mess around and spend next to nothing for solid quality video!
Not having 60fps at 1080p is really a big problem because you cant get high quality slow motion shots :/ I still would recommend the g7x as a buget cam
Shout out to the notification squad :D
But I have 60fps at 1080p :)
I haven’t tried it but it’s micro four thirds right? I heard it’s good tho
I love Matty but for him if it’s not Canon then it’s not his preferred camera for choice at any budget
it is been my travel camera for a year, i did videos without knowing anything about video o editing but it turn out very good! i love to watch this video before... to know what was my little one capable of! thanks matti subscribe from now one
Great run down! I'm surprised that is has a removable lens but no mic input. Still cool!
Yea I guess they figure people wouldn’t use a mic since it’s so small. I think it should have it tho
Same with sony a6000, also nice budget camera
Youre profile pic looks similar to a youtuber i know, i just cant put my finger to it
Dude it's a great budget camera, especially when you compare it to things like the T5i or anything lower.
Yea I would probably rather go for that
Hey Matt, I just looked and I think you might have gotten the mount incorrect.
Nice 🙌🏻
Thats awesome dude, I wouldn't say its the best budget camera for filmmaking out there, but If it works for you then that's great. I've been using the d3300 for the last year and a half and have been struggling with trying to get cinematic results. I was always getting gear lust for insane cameras like the 1DX II, and I didn't think I could get beautiful B roll without 4k or 120fps. Recently though, I've learned that its not about the camera, but the artist (and you can get great slowmo with 60fps too!). Good luck with your new rig man!
Thanks! Good luck to you 2!
Cool man but there really isn't a difference between mirrorless and DSLR "feel"
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I own the M3. Which does have a mic jack. Pretty nice for straight up vlogging once you stick a mic on it. The M6 and M5 are the good ones within this series. They shoot 1080p with 60fps. Slap a 11-22 on it and you have yourself a very nice mini vlogging camera that you can do slowmo b roll with.
Would an Iphone 7 do justice? Ive been using it a lot for cinematic shots.
FOTOROBATO of course!
Phones are great to learn with but so limited cause you can’t change lenses
you can acctually ;) but thats ....
I would rather have my IPhone 7 or 8 than this camera imo. A lot more frame rate options and the ability to use microphones.
Yes, I have the EOS M10 its a great camera, auto focus can be tricky but overall a great purchase
I think it would be better if you buy a lumix g7 for i think 370$.
Maybe? Depends on your needs I guess
TravelFeels yes. I bought the g7 over a year ago an I am so happy with the g7
Without a doubt! I love Canon too but the G7 with 4k, 1080p 60, mic jack, and a solid kit lens wins over the M100.
Yea I was curious about that one but they didn’t have one
TravelFeels Haha yep a friend has one, it's really a good dslr to start filmming :)
TravelFeels the original M has a mic input :)
I've been curious about the Canon mirrorless so thanks for the video!
One thing though, I think you said it has an ef-s mount, but the mirrorless series, I believe, has ef-m mounts.
I think the sl2/200d is a way better camera than this one: dual pixel, 60p and EF lenses are big deals
Yep 🙌🏻
good thing about this cannon, if you are starting, it can be used on smaller gimbals, helping you to learn the ropes of B-rolls and vlogging...I guess it's a great starting point.
Matti gets better footage out of anything than me with a pro DSLR 😅 Guess I have to keep shooting!
Yup! haha
It’s more like the editing software and lighting
If size does not matter and you are in the USA, please consider going after the G7 instead. Almost the exact same price and much more features. Solid lens selection and you can upgrade to the GH series and use the same lenses I believe. If you want something compact this is probably perfect.
"budget camera when you're starting with filmmaking"
"for me it was a 60d"
Sameeeeee still use it
For me it was a Super 8mm camera.
60d isn't budget, it kinda midrange
If you just wanna try use your cellphone, getting already with my 6S decent shots. In 4K if I like.
Yeah, lenses are an issue but I think these days you can have a good start with your phone
1080p is making a comeback! lol
Haha 😂
I hope so... I bought a canon t6 rebel like 2 months ago and I love it buuuut it only records at 1080p, it has pretty much the same settings as this camera. But to be honest i love my eos t6 :D maybe Matti could do a review about this model.
1080p is good for the next few years. But if you wanna future proof your videos, you gotta do 4K. As there is no future proofing of vlogs...
Future proofing is such a silly concept. I like how different decades have different looking footage and if the content is good, it really doesn't matter if it's super high resolution.
G’day, Danny Black!
The best cinematic camera under 500$ is the Canon 200D. I paid 400€ for the 200D + kit lens. It's pretty much an 80D.
I haven’t tried it so I can’t say much!
My Question has always been, how does a camera like this hold up to smartphone cameras, like the S7 or S8 is the changeable lenses that big of a gain or win ?
this camera (canon m10) cost $850 on amazon india. but canon m100 cost $500 on amazon india.
Get an eos m3 or eos m
Both are great
When you flipped up the LCD screen my heart dropped! YES!
You should review the cannon 200d
Tom sailing and bikes thank you i thought the same! Has so many things that this camera lacks and it isnt considerably more expensive. Normal price is 600 and i got mine on blackfriday with canon cashback bonus for 483€. Love it so far!
Yea I think that might be much better!
OK thanks keep up the great work
I've used an EOS-M, the original in the mirrorless series, since 2014. I bought it for a trip to the US, trying to keep the weight down. With another long trip coming up, to Chile, I bought an EOS-M6 body recently. This does 1080p at 50 or 60 fps, so might be something worth you reviewing.
Yea that’s what I was trying to get my hands on but couldn’t :(
I'd come see you with mine, but we are headed a bit far south this trip!
You’re young...my first camera was 10D. But that was literally a month before the 20D came out...
I really wish a small camera like this used EF lenses. It’d make it so much more compatible and so much easier for beginners to enter in to a camera system and then upgrade without starting over.
Shots look astonishing though!
I want to go for the Nikon D3400 as my first camera.
It’s too bad Nikon’s are pretty bad for video :(
I did - very good value for the money.
Get the D3300 if you're planning to vlog.
peacemakersx why did you recommend the d3300?
That was a wonderful video presentation. I really do like that camera. Were you using the 15-45mm kit lens while you we’re filming your family on the beach?
That's incredible for that price!! :O
Yea can’t beat the price that’s for sure!
Yea they are much smalller lenses so that might have to do something with it
TravelFeels they don't have much when it comes to wider aperture though.
If you were able to physically mount a DSLR lens on a mirrorless camera, the DSLR lens is designed to focus much farther back than the sensor is positioned inside a mirrorless camera, so they are physically incompatible
This, however, is why it's possible to make adapters to put DSLR lenses on mirrorless cameras - the flange distance difference means you can fit an adapter in there to manage the physical mount difference (including electronic connections on the fancier ones) and have the image focus on the correct spot.
Infact you could put together a pretty awesome kit for around $1000 with it, if you ebay
GX85 - $350
Phantom 3 4K - $400
Zoom H1 - $80
Comica shotgun or Lav - $35
Handheld Stabalizer < $100
Spend rest on Lights
or get the Crane M - $350
Which lens are you using on that C300 Mark II?
Paulo André Carvalho it looks like a 25-105 but I’m not sure. That lens mounted looks like it has a IS switch.
Seems like a Sigma 18-35 f1.8 to me. But I'm not sure so I'm asking to confirm. It's the lens I use on my Canon 80D and seems very similar.
Sigma 18-35 f1.8. My fav lens of all time
Nice! It's the only lens I have for my 80D. Now I need a metabones to use it with the Panasonic G85. 😁
Literally the only lens that lives on my c100mkii.
What Camera did you use to record this video? It looks great.
3:20 should be EF-M right?
Joey Hoogendoorn Yeah lmao. EF-S is for Canon crop censor DSLRs.
Haha yea whoops. Too many abbreviations
Joey Hoogendoorn ... the EF-M was a film camera.
John Taylor LMAO OMG it is! But it’s also a mount type. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ xD
I’m 14 and with all my tips I made a few bucks and just by photography and real estate my collection looks like this:
Canon T5i
DJI Spark
Dji Osmo Gimbal
Go pro
It’s pretty fun at the age of 14 have a kind of job like this! Not my quote but if you put your mind to it really anything you think of can be somewhat possible if not completely possible!!!
wow, that's great any tips? I'm 16 and I'm trying to find a job in film making and stuff
Good review and demo. Seems strange Canon didn't add 1080p at 60fps. Even smart phones can shoot at 60fps or have slow motion features now.
For a $100 more you can buy the Canon M100 with 24.2MP and will shoot 60fps at 1080p.
And that's a fun camera to use
Great stuff. However, you were actually wrong about the mount. Canon EF-S mounts support all EF lenses. For an example, you can mount a Canon L series EF lens on a camera with an EF-S mount. On the other way around, you can't use EF-S lenses on EF mounted cameras.
man what about a6300 it is a budget camera 📷?
Can you do a video on editing, specifically cutting between shots? When to stop this shot/scene and transition to the next.
Sure! 🙌🏻
TravelFeels Awesome, thank you. I've always struggled with deciding how many frames long should this angle be, etc.
Oh i clicked on the wrong video, i thought it was about Panasonic G7.
And you get a really competent stills camera too.
get the sony a5100
I got a a5100 two month ago and I just love it :)
Any song reps here?? Haha
Do u get overheat issue ?
I'm loving my new Canon M6 for vlogging my little photo adventures, I picked it up refurbished from Canon for $499! Also, the camera is an M-mount and with the adapter, you can mount all EF and EF-S canon lenses :)
Canon Feels™
What about the *Sony RX 100 V* ? Can you do a review on it? Or what's your opinion of it for a person looking to do simple vlogs?
Love the colors and the focus of Canon cameras, but my personal opinion, if you want a great footage save up some more and go for EOS 5D mark II, that's what I'm doing right now!
And would love to get your thoughts on my first vlog ^_^
Yea that’s a great camera especially for photos. No good if you need AF for video tho
trying to pick something in between, but as far as I ran my research, 5D MK II, has pretty much everything you need for a good start, what's your opinion about that?
Philip, the 5d2 (I have one) is 10yrs old now, and still takes good photos as long as the iso is not too high, but the video looks 10years old now, ie the video is soft compared to current standards. A SL2/200D will give you much better video for the same money.
thank you!
Can easily make the color changes in the editing process. The color science might be ok, but the sharpness is not that great.
EVERYTIME i get a notification for a new video, I make a HAPPY DANCE, Love your channel and your Work is awesome
Haha amazing! Thanks so much man
NO mic Jack.... NOT the camera you want for RUclips.
AdventureSportFlashlights yep that's a non starter.
EXACTLY!! Why oh why can't Canon put a freaking mic jack on their small cameras??
The older model EOS M has a Mic port. I bought one used and love it
I got an EOS M10 recently and found the sound to be pretty decent. Not super good, but worth the $400CAD i spent on getting the camera.
the flippy screen doesn't give enough space for a mic so if you would want a mic you should get the eos m3
We are all so sorry your free internet tutorials displease you.
That's just a stupid comment. Just because people make free videos (it's not a tutorial btw), doesn't mean i'm not allowed to criticize it.
And this review seems rushed. The info about the lens is wrong (it only directly accepts M lenses, both EFS and EF lenses need the adaptor). If the review is aimed at newbies and a first camera choice, they are getting the wrong info from the get go.
True and with an adapter you're already above 500$ which makes a panasonic g7 for example a much much better choice.
DIYowl do u got overheat issue ?
Video Idea/Request:
Scenario: you just got the Canon 6D MkII, pulled it out of the box... what do you do first?
Yea it’s crazy what they pack into such a small camera now.
