It's also the closest I've ever seen a film capture the essence of a nightmare, feeling like you're running and running and never getting further away from some invisible horror.
Really good stuff I highly recommend it

yes! i also watched it around that time and, even though i hadn't had similar experiences, i could relate to what they felt. finding someone who gets you and with whom you can talk about your ideas and dreams, fall in love and all that. but it's not even necessary to relate to appreciate it, thanks to the great script and charming performances, it's very exciting to watch and to imagine having a similar thing happen to you some day. and yeah, the way it all flows is incredibly natural and that's what makes the film so good.
edit: realized i mixed up before sunset/sunrise, and yup, the second one is way heavier and i guess you have to live a little longer to get it. i'm glad i watched it few years after the first one.

I’ve never been in a relationship, I’ve had crushes, but not a relationship and I’m 17 right now. But I watched Before Sunset when I was 16 and it fucking hit. Everything Julie Deply’s character said during the car ride was exactly how I felt about, and thought about, love. Especially since I’m in high school, relationships just seem pointless (I mean they nearly all end, if nothing else, when you go off to college). And, idk, something about the whole wondering if there is true love, can it ever stop the loneliness, and all that stuff was all that I thought about. It’s weird, isn’t it? That Karsten finds it insane that someone could resonate so deeply with something that they’ve never experienced. But yet I do, what does that say? Idk, I really honestly don’t know.

No offense, but it feels like you started trying to figure out what good films are about 15 minutes ago. Not to diss you or say any of these films are bad, but maybe do some more exploring.🤷

@@sleep6837 I’ve most definitely done a lot of exploring throughout the world of cinema, in various genres. The films I chose are mainstream for a reason, they’re terrific films. Just because I don’t choose anything from Stanley Kubrick or Akira Kurosawa’s filmography doesn’t mean I don’t have an expansive knowledge of cinema. I have my reasons for liking each film I’ve chosen. Vito Corleone imo is the best character ever put to the silver screen, right behind him is Michael, both played to perfection by Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Most films have one or two stand outs at most. The Godfather’s whole cast is terrific. James Caan (R.I.P.) as Santino “Sonny,” Corleone. John Cazale (R.I.P.) as Fredrico “Fredo,” Corleone. Especially Robert Duvall as Tom Hagen. The Godfather, Part II is just as good if not better, this film showed off the young Al Pacino and John Cazale’s true talent. It’s a tragedy that Al Pacino didn’t win an Oscar for Michael Corleone in GFII. John Carpenter’s Halloween is the best display of creepy atmosphere I have ever bared witness, not to mention how many films were inspired by it afterwards springing the slasher genre that Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel disliked. They loved John Carpenter’s Halloween but hated all of the soulless films that ripped it off. Pulp Fiction is Pulp Fiction, what else can I say that hasn’t already been said. Quentin Tarantino at his peak. American Psycho was crafted excellently by Mary Harron and it’s Christian Bale’s best performance, no doubt. My knowledge of cinema is well rounded. If you would care to share your favorite films I would love to question your passion for the craft as well.
