    I purchased an ME-80 a couple of months ago, it's a great Multi and I've had a few over the last 30 years, none were as easy to operate as this ME80. Your video is the best I've seen, it describes how to use the M E80 extremely well. Yep, Short sweet and simply. Well done.

    Great demo to get me started. Not too complicated and mercifully short. I ran my Rickenbacker 360-12 thru the Overtone effect: Wow! What a great sound. The 12-string has octave strings on it to begin with, but played thru the Overtone effect plus some compression the full, rich output is incredible, esp if you're playing single-note leads. Thanks for your help!

    Thanks for this demo, by far the best I have come across and making it so simple to understand the features. I purchased this unit about 7 years ago when I was a beginner on Electric Guitar and only just looking to use it as I have joined a band as Lead Guitarist, that sounds like a big word. In fact I am retired and I have suddenly gone from a Home/ Hobby guitarist to joining a few musicians in our village as a band. I have a BOSS Katana 50 AMP which has a lot of effects on it but not practical when changing from one song to another. BOSS ME 80 is far more versatile. with my pre set settings for different effects. Well Done from Downunder in OZ

      Agreed. I do actually own an OD1, a SD1, a GE7, a a Mooer Delay, the Mooer Reverb, a Digitech TubeScreamer and every now-and-then I connect them all and fire op the analog board. And allways somewhat laterI go back to the ME80. Nothing I need I can t handle. And still learning, after 10 yrs of spotless service. Whatever shitty amp the gig venue owns, the ME80 in front of any half decent (also trans) amp is enough. One night simply hookes up to the PA. Stereo sound the kinda fun.
      Im looking forward to the ME100. Really hoping it makes its appearance 🙏 soon. More reverb parameters, longer lmukti track ooper, incorporated drums, two drive pedals, wider chorus. Then it would be perfect.

      Davit Cherqezishvili So on the back of the unit there is something that looks like a headphone jack, maybe labeled “recording out” or something like that. You need to plug headphones in that to activate the cab simulation. The “terrible” noise you’re hearing is what you hear when you have an amp model on without a cab simulation on. Brittle, harsh, awful. Hope this helps!

    The strange thing about technology 4 years later is I would prefer just an updated effects pedal board like this with sends, returns, and such, but minus their amp technology that could be set up for the use of multiple effects from Boss. I like all the knobs for adjustments right there on the board. Guess the closest thing is the Line 6 multi effects board that doesn't have the amp sims. Thanks for the demo.

    I can hear the enthusiasm in your voice. Thumbs up on that alone.I just got my GT 100. I am glad I did not sell my ME 80. The GT has lots of fuzzy fizzy sounds that so far (week 2) I haven't been able to get around. I don't seem to have that problem with the 80. The 80 is far more intuitive & has far less parameters to have to deal with. Not fond of the amp models on either of them though. Good vid & thanks.

    Nice review, Scott! In 2001 or 2002, I had the choice to get either the GT-6 or ME-50. Since the GT-6 cost more, I assumed it must be better, so I chose it. After that, I ALWAYS wished I had purchased the ME-50 instead for its simplicity. True, the GT-6 had lots of sounds but, realistically, I only ended up creating 4 or 5 patches that I used for years. Since then, I have gone through all kinds of rig setups using everything from all digital effects into solid state amps, to plain ol' analog stomp pedals into tube amps. I have found my home in tube amps, but as far as effects pedals go, I absolutely must have an all-in-one multi-effects unit designed for playing out live. I'm currently using the Mooer Black Truck and really digging a combination of its Over Drive with Compressor and EQ. My only complaint with it is that Mooer opted to go with a Flanger effect instead of Chorus. The Flanger can come close to getting a Chorus sound, but that unmistakable flanger "sweep" is always present - no matter how you set it. Maybe I'll try one of these Boss ME-50s now and see if the new amp models are acceptable. (The GT-6 amp models were very "digital" sounding and a bit on the sterile side. I wouldn't want the modeled amp tones in the ME-50 to override the tone of my tube amps. I guess I could leave its amp models turned off and just use the effects sections, right?) Thanks, Scott!

    • @kenmcd2014
      @kenmcd2014 2 года назад +2

      @@accentontheoff Well I was very happy with it, but now I have gone back to using my GT5. The reason being I play in a local covers band and one of the songs is Bon Jovi "It's my life" I made a talk box for just that but it is a lot of work setting it all up with a mic (I don't sing) small amp and pipe etc...etc just for one song, so I thought I'd just use the voice option on the ME 80 but it was pretty poor, with very little control over the vowel sounds. I knew the GT5 had an option of selecting the vowel sounds for the up and down of the pedal, I needed "o" and "a" which the GT5 happily facilitates whereas the ME 80 does not. But that is the only reason. Once the band decides to drop It's my life I'll get the ME 80 back out. But in answer to your question I am happy with my purchase.

      Is the audio quality the same on both.

    • @kenmcd2014
      @kenmcd2014 2 года назад +1

      @@accentontheoff Hi, The audio quality on both is good, in fact very good but they are not the same. The GT5 has a far deeper level of adjustment to each sound. The parameters are astounding for a piece of kit from that age. The GT5 is a brilliant multiple effects unit. I'd say without an equal to be be perfectly honest. However, things move on and the ME 80 has a far better basic sound selection. The ease of adjustment to an already excellent setting makes it so easy to use and comes up with every kind of sound you'd ever want (apart from the talk box) But there is no adjustment beyond the basic settings but having said that, the basic sounds are so good you don't really need to delve that deep. Also making the adjustments on a PC hooked up to the unit makes setting it all up so easy where you can see what each parameter is set at instantly which you cant do on the unit as the knobs could be set to any setting for a previously adjusted sound, they only activate when you turn the knob, so they could be showing you 10 when it in reality it is only 4. I like the newer sounds of the ME 80 and as I said there is no reason not to use it in my band as I have done for a few months and I have no problems with it at all, it is a great unit and if not for the sake of one song I would be using tonight.
      You seemed pretty enthusiastic about it on the video, do you still feel the same way? No reason not to but I suppose the more you use something, the more things you find that you can't do.
      I know from your accent you are in the USA somewhere hope things are good there and the band scene is picking again, it has been pretty bad for the live music over here in the UK since Covid but things are getting back to some normality over the last 3 or 4 months. Stay well brother...

Naturally, they are more expensive, and you need to run through a P.A.-If you run them through an all tube set up they do not sound as good. I think for the money. I see these for 250 much better than buying a bunch of pedals, It is the only way to go. When I started 50 years ago nothing like this was made.I teach a bit, and would make sure these people buy even a soild state amp(A good one and a Boss ME-80. I do not see any downsife. Great job.

    I have one of these and this review failed to mention things I thought were shortcomings. First, there is no way to know what any of the settings are in a patch. Second, there are two modes of operation using the "manual" switch. One mode takes loads all the current controls when entered, and the other doesn't. So when the "load all current controls" is used, then manual mode becomes almost worthless. There should be a separate control for pulling in the current control settings. Loading the current settings has nothing to do with the mode and messes up it's function.
    One thing that bugged me about the ME-80 was I upgraded to it because I loved the Freeze effect in the ME-25. Unfortunately the Freeze effect in the ME-80 works more like a short recorded loop and gets a warbling sound frequently when frozen. The ME-25 always gives a non modulated tone like a real freeze. The ME-25 also has superior volume control over the freeze effect with the expression pedal.
    I suppose using a computer to manage your presets helps you bypass the problems I stated. And if the freeze isn't that important, then you might find this to be a usable FX box.

    i have a ME 80, you didn`t mention that it has a UBS connection for PC. i have it connected to a vgm 14 mixer, using the guitar out cable. i play guitar, but more drums. was having an issue with headphones with low Impedance, any mixer you would need 80 ohms or higher, so with the way i have it set up, i can use 25 ohm headphone from the ME 80. and the sound still powers through the monitors. and the jamming continues...
