    The Boss ME-80 has a wide range of drive settings that take you from mild boost and blues tones through to straight ahead rock and metal with some fuzz thrown in too. This video goes through all the different settings and compares the different drives available. They all sound real good through a decent amp and will reward the player who takes the time to learn the different nuances that each offer. It's a great multi Fx for all guitarists looking to expand and try different tones and colours, with the advantages of saving patches and simple and quick set up times. I bought this specifically for the preamp and the second EQ FX section that the ME 80 offered. I have the ME 50. It's great but I needed something more. The ME 50 offers the variation button which combines the amp sounds with the stomp boxes, but with this one, I can adjust the amps sounds separately, along with the stomp boxes. Plus, I can turn the comp on and off with ease in real time.

    This is a very good resource on the BOSS ME-80. The manual is QUITE sparse. Are there other videos of the other areas of the board (COMP/FX, MOD DELAY, etc)? Is anybody aware of any ME-80 guru's or user groups or reddits? Need a place to find more than just a retail sales review of the unit. Especially with compression, a what does each knob do video would be great.

    That was a really good demo of the ME-80 bro. I am searching for something in a quick/easy all-in-one pedal board, and your demo of this worked. I want to test-drive one. I just ordered a used T.C. Electronics NOVA System pedal because it's laid out to be more like a bunch of analog pedals - not so digital. (I own a BOSS GT-100 and a GT-6 and old ME-50, but I am in search of a "Holy Grail". I must say (because I was in music retail for 17 years until 1997) that I really appreciated your demo. You stayed focused on the product and you weren't trying to make it all about your playing! I have seen a few demos tonight that were just plain dumb and vacuous because the demo guy was trying too hard to be funny and cheeky and ever-so-cool with his hot licks that he forgot the mission - TO RUN THROUGH THE PEDAL SO WE COULD SEE WHAT IT DID!!! Yours was a very informative run-through and I appreciate it. Please feel free to put me on your list of players who would like to see your demos of new product. I am sure you must sell a lot! Well-done and very much appreciated mate. Cheers. rf

    I found my sweet spot “a dubious attempt to combine the sounds of Terry Katy (Chicago), Tom Scholz (Boston) and Brian May by selecting Metal DS, dialing back the gain to 3 or 4 and cranking up the tone to 6 or 7. Really gives it that filtered stack sound.

    I know ME80 has been out nearly a decade now, an am looking for something real simple that sounds good for local gigs, without dealing with deep dive menus or tons of pedal and patch cables.

    Hi pmt peeps just curious is this me-80 still worthy in 2022? . I’m not into it for the stage I’m interested in just creating and writing my own music. and the analogue way the pedal works over digital is really appealing to me, I’m just wandering is it more a gig guys tool or does it also hold its own in a “studio” environment? .or do you have any recommendations to a “multi-job” pedal in the £250-£300 🇬🇧 range for creators- writer’s for home-studio sound quality. Loved the demo and any advice will be much appreciated thanks pmtv 🤘🎶🤘🇬🇧

    • @soulscollector81
      @soulscollector81 2 года назад +1

      It works well if you are recording studio. The overdrive in this is better than the boss overdrive pedal( i compared it side by side).
      But for live...hmm, it doesn't cut in well when you are playing songs with 2 guitars in heavy distortion. I had tried different setting but the barred chords n solo just lost in the play. I can only cut in the mix if i turn on the volume very loud, and you got your singer covering his ear.I sold my unit for pedals for this reason and never look back.
      The delay is very beautiful though, especially when u are playing 2 guitar on clean or chorus.
      I mean, it really depend in your need n genres.

    They are the Valeton gp100 and the Nux mg300.
    The used me80 is offered to me at almost exactly the same price as that of the mg300 on Amazon.
    It's making my head spin round and round and round and it's still spinning.

    Hello there! I am searching for a good way to record my Guitar, and if possible a microphone too. I looked for interfaces a long time, with which I would have to put on the overdrive for my metal sound on the computer. Now this Multi looks like an easy way to preset the tones instead. My question would be: How good ist it for recording, I'm assuming you can directly connect it with the computer? And is it a bad idea to connect a microphone the same way, through the "Guitar In" channel?
    I think the best argument for a normal interface, besides the optional MIDI entrance for Mics, is, that I only have to record the guitar one time and then produce the sound I like, testing different sounds, while with the Multi I had to re-record each time I don't like the sound, isn't it so?
    Thanks for the video, looking forwards for the answer.

    • @devinmason5740
      @devinmason5740 9 лет назад

      This unit does connect to the computer and the quality is fine. It would seem that putting vocals through it on a clean setting or even with a little bit of re-verb or whatever would be fine. I really can't say that there would be a problem.

    • @devinmason5740
      @devinmason5740 9 лет назад

      On second thought there is the issue of the 48v phantom power that some mics require and this pedal would not provide that so yea. I use the Scarlett 2i2 by Focusrite (200 bucks) for vocals and also to record the sound straight from my amp/cabinet set up. I think that is the best way to get just the sound you like.

      I wasn’t a huge fan either so I tried to sell it. I wasn’t willing to take a 100 dollar loss on a brand new unit. I started using it a lot for the tuner, compressor, noise gate, volume pedal, and looper. Because I was using it for those features I just mentioned, I spent more time messing around with the other stuff I was disappointed with like the overdrives. I ended up really liking the unit. You’ll never get tube warmth from this, but you’ll get a close replication of the intended tones. I have the DS-1, Power Stack, and Metal Core pedals. People say the pedals sound different from the ME-80, I disagree. They sound very similar and often the same, the only thing that is different is some of the panels have one less knob, so there’s less versatility, The PowerStack doesn't have A spot in the overdrive selection, but you get the stack amp simulator, which I think is better sounding than the pedal. Most of those amp sims are essentially overdrive pedals with a three band EQ. There's some great tones in the amp sims. But still, it's not an authentic sound. As time goes on, I'm more and more impressed with what the ME-80 can do. If you’re having trouble dialing in good tones, you should try some of the presets in the memory bank. There’s also some really cool stuff you can do when you’re not in manual mode, I'm just beginning to scratch the surface. Having said all that, it’s still definitely not to tone, so I respect if people disagree.

    • @bikeman123
      @bikeman123 3 года назад +3

      I also find the distortions a bit disappointing but this video has demonstrated that I could get better results by using the tone dial more. I'm off to give my ME80 a 2nd chance, thanks.

    I was very disappointed with the sound of the amps simulation and the OS/DS section. I own the DS-1 for 20 years, and the metal zone for 2 years. From my point of view, the only way to get a useful sound out of the Me-80 is to disengage the amp simulator and the EQ. Nevertheless the distorted sound is artifical and is far far away from the sound of the single pedals. I used it in front of an amplifier.
    I liked the clean sound, the delay/reverb, the build in noise gate, the flanger and chorus. I sold it already.
