    I play guitar as a hobby, don't spend a lot of money on new gear. I had a crappy multieffects pedal, thought about getting a decent distortion, delay/ etc. I bought this because you can use it as individual pedals or as stored banks. You can go crazy and download different banks or create your own. Perfect for an amateur like me who got a deal for $300 or some one who is needing something to record or tour.

    I want to buy this me80 as a "grab and go" pedalboard. My other board is a monster to carry around to gigs and practices or jams. The fact that this little multifx unit also has the ability to act as individual stomp boxes, I feel, puts this little bugger leaps and bounds beyond the others out there right now.

    It's a step backwards. The Reverb on the ME10 gives you R1 R2 H1 H2. And then pre delay, feedback, tone, volume. No amp models. It gives you both modes of the OD2 and DS2. Much more straight forward. Manual mode, analogue drives. Eq has got a swept mid. You can sweep through the wah by numbers too 1 - 100 using the wheel.

    Do you plug both guitar cables into 2 amps to get a stereo sound? Or is there a certain guitar amp for producing stereo sound?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 года назад +1

      Hi PC12 and thanks for your message, hope you're well and safe.
      There are a few amps, like the Roland Jazz Chorus series, that have dual power amps and output to each speaker separately for stereo sound. The effects loop however is in mono. More typically two amps are fed by the output of a time domain (delay/reverb) or modulation (chorus/flanger) pedal to create a stereo sound field. This method is preferred since the amps can be physically spaced apart from each other.

    Is it possible to set delays or other effects for a "momentary" mode where delay cna be engaged by a click and turn off without having to click again?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Год назад

      Hi, thanks for your interest! Yes, the footswitches on the ME-80 can be set to turn effects on or off as momentary switches. By default, they behave as latching switches when they’re set to toggle effects, so you’d need to change the default setting in Memory Mode to accomplish this. The procedure is outlined on page 16 of Boss’s user manual at this link:
      static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/ME-80_egfispd03_W.pdf
      I hope this helps - feel free to contact me directly with any further questions, and thanks again!

If I save a patch, are the effect "types" (ex: tape delay, digital delay, reverse delay) remembered and used regardless of the current PHYSICAL position of the knob or do you have to move the knob to the effect you want even after loading a patch?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Год назад

      @@TheTeekayes Hey there, thanks for the reply! When the pedal is in Memory Mode, the parameters will reflect how you’ve saved your preset(s), not the physical position of the knobs. In Manual Mode, you have the option to keep the sound from Memory Mode or make the sound change according to the current position of the knobs. It depends on your global settings. I hope this helps!

    I`m using two amps, exactly the same amps, and I tried flanger, no panning effect. It doesn`t have any other panning effect, so...................what`s the meaning of having two outs for two amps, if there is no stereo modeling, or other left to right switching effect, ............... If anybody have the key to do it, i will appreciate some help, but i start thinking it`s one point against this machine. Even though i love the manual mode and other features like the duplicated modeling effects, and other bunch of things. May be only my unit, i don`t know. But if you give a look to the list of effects, there is no stereo chorus, flanger, or pan, or pan delay, or ping-pong delay. That is the point. I think it`s not stereo at all.

      Hi, Sam! Thanks for your message, great question. There’s nothing that prevents the use of the ME-80 on bass. As with any new effects unit, it’s a good practice to compare it against your dry tone. If you like your original tone, then the effects are there to enhance, not completely change. There’s no such thing as an effect that is only good on “x” instrument. It’s really up to the player and their application.

    This is a pretty good demo on just how NOT to promote it
    As this affects device is a modeler and can sound great through a pa system or an frfr sound system
    It is redundantly being demoed right into the front of a fully voiced quality guitar amp and then demoed the most horrifying tones ever
    Particularly the modulations
    I know this is a great pedal already but if i didnt
    This video wouldve had me running far away from this unit!!

    People still don't have any idea how to test effects pedals. Never play chords! You only want to hear what it sounds like on a single string, at least at first. How does it modify a single note? That's what you're trying to discover. If you're playing more than one chord, you're not going to find out, at the very least it's going to make your job needlessly more difficult. If you want to impress 16 year olds at your local guitar shop, than fine, but you're not learning anything. And especially do not play a chord progression or play it fast. I do the same thing when evaluating keyboards. I let the show-offs around me play lighting fast runs, but I hit a single note with one hand, and then see what happens to that note as it's modified (SLOWLY) by the Synth. What you'll notice (on guitars) is that many of these effect pedals have virtually no to little difference between each other. Most basically distort & that's about it. Others sound can really only be heard when playing slowly. But this guy above is simply trying to sell you something, rather than demonstrate it - & there's a huge difference.

      +Gavin “M500” Z Some of the most prized distortion tones have been from transistors. EG: Hendrix.

    • @zx7-rr486
      @zx7-rr486 8 лет назад

      +1971SuperLead No. He used pedals into TUBE amps (Marshal ;59 Super plexi, Fender Twin Reverb, Fender Dual Showmsn). Over-driving a tube amp to distort with a transistor pedal is still tube distortion, and completely different to distorting a transistor stage alone.
      You can't seriously be comparing a Fuzz into a Marshall Tube Plexi with a BOSS ME-80. If you are you don't know much about pre-amps, amps and signal paths.

    • @TonyHookedonVanlife
      @TonyHookedonVanlife 8 лет назад +11

      +Gavin “M500” Z he's feeding the ME-80 into a Rivera TUBE AMP - besides, you are listening to a digital video(as are all internet videos) with youtube's infamous horrible compression, thru literally thousands of connections as this is streamed over the internet... so you saying you actually know what this unit TRULY sounds like is almost like you watching a cooking video and saying the dish doesn't taste good.

    • @zx7-rr486
      @zx7-rr486 8 лет назад +2

      +tony93666 The mp3 type compression doesn't mask the raspy quality of the transistor distortion. I'm watching it through my £1000 plus speakers, and I CAN tell. I am slightly surprised he's feeding it into a tube amp, but if it's just going into a clean channel, and not over-driving the tube pre-amp stage into generating tube distortion, then the ME-80 generated waveform is essentially preserved and just amplified. Pushing a valve amp into distortion with a hot signal is a different issue - that works.
      Look, I've owned dozens of amps, including Solid State and mutiFX. I current;ly own 5 valve pre-amps, including a Triaxis. I regularly try out all kinds of stuff in guitar shops and have no bias against solid-state tech per se.. In most other applications it is of course far superior. But in generating guitar distortion tones it still sucks. I've even tried an AXE FX2, and thought it was still fake sounding. Believe me, if I could ditch valves I would, but they still sound so much better.
      But you're right, I should reserve final judgement until I hear it in the flesh.
