I used the ME 70 for about 4-5 years and LOVED IT!!! I never had the chance to try the ME 80 and the ME 90 was my latest purchase. What I love about it is that it has all the sounds we all love from the ME 70 and also, the EQ is VERY responsive and sensitive! If you know how to EQ a good tone, it’s a WONDERFUL unit! It’s like an amp, not 10000000000 amps and effects, you have what you need and it’s more than enough!
Yes, you are right. Acctually I want to purchase Boss gx-100 but I have not that much budget. So I think this Me-90 is also the same powerful unit . I don't need the 1000 of tones. From last 5 years I am using boss gt-1, Now I am thinking about this unit me-90.
I’m a single channel kinda’ fellow, -this thing is pretty rad man!! I dig how you have the separation of the eq’s above the footswitches. -that’s dope AF Boss!
I figured out what needs to be done to get these better sounds, there are too many levels and gain stages and it gets nasty sounding if they are up higher. Use the X crunch , gain 3/4, (level no more than half way, ) you need to turn on the eq /fx 2 always. It’s the” post” eq . Lower that level below half , now you have a cleaner headroom . Now use the main output at its highest range , 3/4 or more , this will balance the gain stages . Add a Ts od, if needed for metal , gain off, level below half , tone past half . Keep both eqs knobs moderate , boost or cut. This is for di, line to pa. Also raise the gate to 50.
I have the m-80 and love it! I didn’t think I’d be interested in the me-90 11:03 but I’m definitely getting it! It sounds great and has features from the gt line.
Have you got it? If so, are the sounds really better than the old ones? In all these videos I'm kinda disappointed with the gain sounds, I don't know if they're all using the wrong output setting or what could be wrong. This here is one of the best ...and it still doesn't sound really good to me.
I had sold my ME-80 and regretted it. Before this came out I was hoping Boss would upgrade the ME to have all the new AIRD models. Curious why they didn't continue the 00 theme by calling it the ME-100? Anyway, I got impatient and got a used POD Go. All (well, most) of the Helix models for a much more reasonable price! Honestly, there isn't a bad modeler on the market these days. I will probably pick one of these up eventually as I'm replacing my tube amps. Hard to justify them anymore!
Honestly the Pod Go is great and gives you a little more freedom than the Me-90. Like you could use two overdrives if you wanted. Also, on the Pod Go, did you know you can export a preset on your computer, open the preset in notepad, remove the Amp, Cab, and FX loop from the code, save it and import it back into the pod, and then you have extra effects blocks and DSP. If you fill them all out, it does get buggy because the unit does run out of dsp without warning when you do this.. But it will totally work for adding like one extra effect when you are playing into an amp and don't need an amp sim.
@@TheDilligan I didn't know you could tweak the code. I have an old POD HD desktop that I use primarily for the FX. Used it was cheaper than any new reverb pedal.

Got mine in as soon as Sweetwater had them available. Arrived Thursday went out with it Friday. Absolutely the best multi effects pedal for me. Easy to use. Sounds GREAT. I love my ME-90!!
Also question for you for patch/preset changes. Do the knobs move to the proper positions on their own every time you change presets/patches? Or does the device just change the settings internally and bypass the knob settings once the preset/patch is loaded? Just something i've been wondering.
Once you save a patch with the desired levels, they are recalled to those parameters when you select the preset. If you go to change a value, you can see the numeric value you saved as reference for the changes being made.
this is exactly what I've waited for. right fx, sound, flexibility, and cost. I will be selling my pedal board & buying this right after. finally! I play in a band & record solo at home. this will be perfect.
Thanks Don! Excellent tutorial and great playing! I'm planning on using this multi-effects with a Gibson SG and a Fender Twin Reverb. That first sound you got- the rip-roaring jet engine start up sound (mayybe a mixture of flanger, diistortion, and reverb?)- sold me on the board. Thanks again. Cheers.
Excellent review!... but... unless I missed it, no mention was made of the extra amp models and effects available when editing with BTS under the type "Selectable". I bought the ME-90 immediately it was released, and well done Boss! Talk about hitting the Bullseye! There are quite a few more amps and effects available when you use the PC editor. These extra amps etc are not selectable from the front panel (manual mode) but can be used in any patches you create (memory mode).
Yes, it was worth the wait, and, it does just what I wanted it to do. I wanted something that was simple and easy to use. I use it as a simple set of stomp boxes. The F/X loop is a pleasant addition. Worth the wait and worth the money. I like it because I don't have to scroll through a lot menus to get the sounds that I want.
Got mine 2 weeks ago, and it's been a real pain. I wanted to use it as a simple set of pedals, but every time I turn the unit off all my manual setting are lost. I have to manually turn the knobs on each effect to get the effects to work, they are never correct, and require complete re-setting. Have you experienced this problem?
After you select the manual settings that you must hit 'write' to save them, if not the ME90 will not automatically save them, and you will lose them every time you turn the F/X board off.@@MortandHarley
For anyone who already owns this device: When you create patches and save them, do the knobs all move into place on their own once you load the saved patch? Or does the device simply save the knob settings, then bypasses how the knobs are currently set once your saved patch is selected? Hopefully this question made sense. I've been looking for videos just to see what happens when a saved preset is selected lol.
@@Nightwinflyer Thanks for the answer. That might be a cool feature to have down the line, but i can also see how that could cause issues. Might be a good thing that they didnt automate them!
Same with me, hunting for videos on line on how to save presets in manual mode and then recall them during live. I've been able to create one user patch for manual mode but I'm still not sure how to create another one with the different effects? I just got it recently so I know I'll figure it out. I do like that nifty preset that Dan is playing at 02:20 but I did notice something; Only the Reverb and Mod pedals are lit up but in the button section only Pre-amp, Comp, Mod and delay are lit up, and it shows U! so it's a created preset. I'll ask Don about that sound and how he created it and saved it, especially since I got the ME 90 from Sweetwater.
Duded if you will turn the gain of the distortion down till the harmonics just first start becoming ambient an then turn the sustain up. you will get a much cleaner velvety distortion. To much gain just causes the production of unnatural distortion that's why it sounds way to fuzzy instead of cutting through. The key here is using the sustain to boost the amount of good distortion rather using gain to make it soud more distorted. The unit is set up so that the delay and modulation do not affect the over all volume so for this reason turning their volumes up an down merely select how prevelant the effect is in the overall mix. turning their levels up as loud or louder than the distortion creates a washd out sound. Turning the voume of the delay and the modulation to about 3 that will also clear up unwanted distortions that are being created by those effects. It will also let the natural guitar signal shine through more so that you get a nice warm distortion instead of a fuzzy one. Your clean sound will be much more ambient too. You wanna opt for the distorted sound to make up 60 to 65 percent of the mix This gives you more of the dry signal of the guitar and that fattens up your sound while leaving it knicfe cutting clear at the same time.
I really like the effects in this unit but haven't had any luck getting a drive tone I like. Edit: I now figured out that not using the amp modeling section and going straight into a clean, dry amp works really great for me!! Using various overdrive models sounds excellent, especially the Centaur. Great full rich responsive inspiring tone!
Mine sounds like a lot of digital fizz (15%) and non-usable novelty patches (85%). There may be something to it yet, and there may be some usable sounds to it, but I'll have to deep dive and ferret them out of the device. Why is it always on me? And why can't Boss produce something with 6-7 really usable sounds and call it a day?
Great comprehensive video! You mentioned playing along to tracks from a computer, is that to say I can cue up a caking track that will play through the amp and can jam along with it? Can the volume of the backing track be adjusted separately while still using effects on the guitar?
to me, the only problem with this is that for 350 usd, you can buy much more intuitive and easy to use units, like Valeton, Headrush or Mooer, with much better results in terms of tone and without that fizzy high-mid end thing that many boss products have when you play anything with an overdrive or distorition
Most likely will soumd terrible into the fromt end though.. Uou also wont be able to change tones if youre looping and layering if its plugged into the front end
Hi, Les. The looper is part of the Delay section of the pedal. If you set that section to Phrase Looper, the Delay footswitch essentially becomes a simple 1-button looper, similar to the Boss RC1 pedal. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
I think it is actually better to have a separate drum section, you see, people who use thus plug to amp and you'll get a distorted drum sound that way. It is better to find a looper or drum machine pedal to a pa or speaker if practice is what you aim to do.
Hi, Josh. The time based effects (modulation, delay, and reverb) are in stereo, but there isn’t a panning delay where the repeats bounce from side to side. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
Hi, thanks for your interest! Yes, you could program multiple patches using the “Tune Down” effect, which can drop the pitch of your instrument up to 12 semitones. hey sweatwater team, cool review this device reminds me a lot of playing in several different styles with pedals and good amps like prince did. i think i read that he also used boss pedals and some mesa amps or so. Everything is available and sounding just very very nice. you can dial in some cool effect without menu so thats great. And you are not supposed to be scrolling and getting lost inside the menu. This is a really great device and i am looking forward to get one soon. I used for years the me 50 with a mesa boogie heartbreaker and that was really sounding good to me. I need something where i can turn knobs when inspiration kicks in. cheers
When installing the Boss Bt Dual on my ME 90, only the midi drive was recognized. My phone is an IPhone 14 and the application worked perfectly but I can't stream audio through the device. Any tips on how to solve this problem?
Hi, stitchgrimly6167. The looper will record and loop whatever effects you have active so if you have the delay turned on, that will be part of the loop. You can only have one delay active so there isn’t a way to stack them. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
Yes, it will run perfectly fine in mono mode. You would use the output labeled Left/Mono. :) (and at $350US you can’t go wrong! I just placed my order.)
Hi, tyson1ize! Thanks for contacting us with your question. Yes, the routing you asked about is available using the “four cable” method. My experience with multi-effects pedals is supported by this video. There are many effects that are “interesting” but really not usable. I have the feeling that manufacturers of these pedals value quantity over quality. As a result, users can only really take advantage of a fraction of the available options. That said, that fraction is still worth the investment vs. buying individual effects for those of us on a budget. But be warned, buy this or any multi-effects pedal and you will only use a fraction of the available effects as the rest are “interesting” but not practical.
Can this effect the reverb? sorry for the noobish question but i am trying to get this as a gift for christmas for someone and i dont know much about audio equipment
Hi, Adrian! Thanks for your question, it’s a totally valid one. The BOSS ME-90 does have reverb as an effect along with several other types. The effects are used individually as well as combined. Hi, shayh.3556. Yes, it could definitely work with that. The amp modeling portion isn’t going to sound great when run into a guitar amp so you’ll probably leave that section bypassed, but the rest of the effects will work great. Thanks for your interest! Hi, derekhandley3270. Yes, you could use the ME90 with the Cube Street. You’d want to run from the output of the ME90 to the Line In on the Cube. The ME90 has a switch on the back to switch the output to Line Level. That will bypass all the amp modeling in the Cube and allow you to dial in your tones straight from the ME90. Hi, EJ! Thanks for your question. There’s nothing that prevents the use of the ME-90 on bass. As with any new effects unit, it’s a good practice to compare it against your dry tone. If you like your original tone, then the effects are there to enhance, not completely change. There’s no such thing as an effect that is only good on “x” instrument. It’s really up to the player and their application. Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! You can't go wrong with Boss products. 👍🎸💯✌️. But of course it depends on the guitar and guitar playing 😂😂 ✌️✌️👋🎸. Smoke on the water 😂😂✌️
I was almost considering trading in my GT100, but then I realized; in manual mode, you can't change the order of effects. While the layout here is the most common and logical layout, there are times when modulation or even delay effects should precede the OD. Maybe you can do this in patch mode but then you're not in manual mode, and can only control one effect in the patch with the CTL footswitch. So, cool, but maybe I'll look at the GX100 or GX10.
Honestly it didn't sounded as good as Line 6 Helix but what the heck it is still the best of its type and no competition for people who prefer real knobs to menu and banks.
Feels like we're never going to progress past the single input and single FX loop with this type of unit. It become s a moot point, how good it sounds. Guess it's a price point thing.
I have done the calculations, this pedal has ♾️+1 settings. If you started the vid again and try to set every configuration available you would end up dying before trying them all…. LOL Came for the review, stayed for that frikkin awesome PRS. :) ❤ from 🇨🇦 \m/, ,\m/ EDIT: Holy cripes, Just checked out the price. What an exceptional deal for such a powerhouse! I AM SOLD! Too bad you cannot separate the foot switches from the control knobs, so you could put the latter on a stand, and not have to bend down constantly to tweak parameters.
I bought this from Sweetwater, was working great and now it makes absolutely no sound at all but cuts on and works like everything is normal... Any ideas on how to get it making sound again? I have reset it and of course all the volume knobs work and am running it through a Katana as a speaker. Doesnt even make sound when I use headphones too!
My Yamaha FX 500 has been used (with the same battery) for 34 years and still going yet the BOSS ME-90 pedal I got at Christmas to replace it took a total dump on me last week. Arrrggg !
wish it was designed to where I could have a global compression & reverb NOT assigned to a block (always on) & have those two blocks for the other block FX optons, but hey, cant have everything. sounds great laid out nicely otherwise.

Cheers from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹
I really like the effects in this unit but haven't had any luck getting a drive tone I like.
Edit: I now figured out that not using the amp modeling section and going straight into a clean, dry amp works really great for me!! Using various overdrive models sounds excellent, especially the Centaur. Great full rich responsive inspiring tone!
Very nice demonstration.
Are you running cap sim?
tune down ?? How many semi tones does it down tune to ?
Should be a great feature to go a few semi tones down
Great review.
Great comprehensive video! You mentioned playing along to tracks from a computer, is that to say I can cue up a caking track that will play through the amp and can jam along with it? Can the volume of the backing track be adjusted separately while still using effects on the guitar?
Great, informative video. 🤘🤘thanks.
to me, the only problem with this is that for 350 usd, you can buy much more intuitive and easy to use units, like Valeton, Headrush or Mooer, with much better results in terms of tone and without that fizzy high-mid end thing that many boss products have when you play anything with an overdrive or distorition
Is this designed to go into the front end of a tube amp? Or the effects return?
Both or Ether.
Most likely will soumd terrible into the fromt end though.. Uou also wont be able to change tones if youre looping and layering if its plugged into the front end
hello, what did you amplify them on? live PA system? or in an amp?
So how do you use the Looper??? I cannot work it out - great video by the way
Hi, Les. The looper is part of the Delay section of the pedal. If you set that section to Phrase Looper, the Delay footswitch essentially becomes a simple 1-button looper, similar to the Boss RC1 pedal.

@@sweetwater thanks that's great 👍
i use a boss GT3, it sounds amazing. the only way id get one of these is if i didnt have to pay for it lol.
I would buy it today if it had a drum section like the rc-5. Guess I will hold out for them to release a ME-90R.
I think it is actually better to have a separate drum section, you see, people who use thus plug to amp and you'll get a distorted drum sound that way.
It is better to find a looper or drum machine pedal to a pa or speaker if practice is what you aim to do.
@@wckoek not better for me.
Some pretty good guitar playing! Boss products are amazing. 😎🤓
I love the me90 I can't wait to order it when I save enough money 🥰😍🤟🤘🎵🎶🎼🎸😁
Nice playing.
Hello my pedal fx isn’t lighting up and has only turned to a volume pedal do you know how to fix this?
does it have stereo delay or panning?
Hi, Josh. The time based effects (modulation, delay, and reverb) are in stereo, but there isn’t a panning delay where the repeats bounce from side to side.

Our band uses multiple tunings for songs. Can you program drop tuned patches on this unit for easily switching back and forth?
Hi, thanks for your interest! Yes, you could program multiple patches using the “Tune Down” effect, which can drop the pitch of your instrument up to 12 semitones. Then, you can use the ME-90’s Memory Mode to easily toggle between your patches.
I hope this helps - feel free to contact me directly with any further questions, and thanks again!

How do you turn on the expression pedal?
I’m not getting 100% stereo panning of chorus , reverb, delay .
Can I get the reason?
how are you getting the tone at 2:22?
Great review
Hard to gauge on you tube but I just don’t find these sounds compare to my waza pedals
ME50 Is no comparison - and is extremely limited but I found that very limiting and frustrating
May be an easy gig solution but not for purist sounds
Can this be used for Bass? Is so, any pros or cons?
Hello!
I wouldn’t use the ME-90 with bass - the effects, especially preamps and overdrives are not going to sound right with bass. I’d get one of these instead:

hey sweatwater team,
cool review this device reminds me a lot of playing in several different styles with pedals and good amps like prince did. i think i read that he also used boss pedals and some mesa amps or so.
I need something where i can turn knobs when inspiration kicks in.
cheers
I love my me-80
Terra echo is not sounding stereo … why ?
If it had encoders that recalled the knob position like many synths that would be amazing. Unfortunately it doesn't.
When installing the Boss Bt Dual on my ME 90, only the midi drive was recognized. My phone is an IPhone 14 and the application worked perfectly but I can't stream audio through the device. Any tips on how to solve this problem?
hi, i have my boss me70 The pedal fx isnt working, the light isnt turning on as well, any help will be appreciated.
Very good 😎🎸
Can you record loops with delay? And can you have multiple delays stacked?
Hi, stitchgrimly6167. The looper will record and loop whatever effects you have active so if you have the delay turned on, that will be part of the loop. You can only have one delay active so there isn’t a way to stack them.

If my cheap amp only has two inputs (ftsw and standard input) can i run this? New to pedals as a whole.
Yes, it will run perfectly fine in mono mode. You would use the output labeled Left/Mono. :) (and at $350US you can’t go wrong! I just placed my order.)
No cabsim?
can I send modulation to my effects loop on my amp while send dist ect to the front of my amp?
Hi, tyson1ize! Thanks for contacting us with your question. Yes, the routing you asked about is available using the “four cable” method. Uses the in/out/send/return of the ME-90 in combination with the input/send/return of your amplifier. This method provides a lot of flexibility!

Do you know if you can connect an aux input to it?
Hi, Rodrigo. The ME90 doesn’t have an aux input but if you add the Boss Bluetooth Adapter, you’d be able to stream music into it for practice purposes.

More is better thinking. I agree with you.
Please see the walkthrough videos on our site to get an overview of the product:

Can this work with a Fender Champion 50xl?
Hi, shayh.3556. Yes, it could definitely work with that. The amp modeling portion isn’t going to sound great when run into a guitar amp so you’ll probably leave that section bypassed, but the rest of the effects will work great.

So, if I'm looking for a pure clean tone, 95% of this unit would go unused ?
The only amp I have is the Roland street cube ex . Would the ME90 work well with it and how best would i connect it ? Thanks in advance

Does it have an onboard Noise Suppressor or is it App only ?
Hello and thanks for your message, hope you’re well and safe. There’s absolutely a Noise Suppressor in the signal chain. Please see this link for a Sweetwater walkthrough of the ME-90; it includes a diagram and effects list:

Great demo from SW as usual
What is that almost sitar-like effect at 2:22?
Is it good for bass?

What amp do you suggest
Ones that go to 11. :)
Happy with my Katana MkII
Bitchin RAD Shoes man! Best Regards and Best Wishes!
Very user friendly. ❤
@11:19 "The foot treddal"? What is a treddal? 😂
Nobody show,s what they are connected to???
If it had midi implementation I would get one.
Sounds good. I have a Nux 30. Now. It sounds good but takes a lot of time to set it. Love it though id definitely buy one. So much quicker and easier to use. Its on my bucket list.
The Helix is also more than 1000 dollars more expensive than this unit...
i like your style
Why'd you skip metal and core?
Feels like we're never going to progress past the single input and single FX loop with this type of unit.
It become s a moot point, how good it sounds. Guess it's a price point thing.
Hey great video Don. Hope all is well. Was nice meeting you in Chicago at the Blake hotel this summer. Cheers
I have done the calculations, this pedal has ♾️+1 settings. If you started the vid again and try to set every configuration available you would end up dying before trying them all…. LOL
Came for the review, stayed for that frikkin awesome PRS. :)

EDIT: Holy cripes, Just checked out the price. What an exceptional deal for such a powerhouse! I AM SOLD! BOSS wins again! :)
Too bad you cannot separate the foot switches from the control knobs, so you could put the latter on a stand, and not have to bend down constantly to tweak parameters.
I'm so tempted to get the Bass version of this. Even though I don't need it.
are those in door school shoes? It reminds me of what I once had in that situation.
I really want to buy this unit, but sadly, there's no balanced D.I. out, which is extremely important to me.
That’s what DI boxes are for.
@@Iam_Dunn My amp has a stereo DI with cabinet simulation built in.
Cool shoes
I bought this from Sweetwater, was working great and now it makes absolutely no sound at all but cuts on and works like everything is normal... Any ideas on how to get it making sound again? I have reset it and of course all the volume knobs work and am running it through a Katana as a speaker. Doesnt even make sound when I use headphones too!
I have the 80. It's is basically the same thing. But smaller I want one
My Yamaha FX 500 has been used (with the same battery) for 34 years and still going yet the BOSS ME-90 pedal I got at Christmas to replace it took a total dump on me last week. Arrrggg !
That guitar looks like a faded pair of blue jeans. So nice!
Nice price $349.99
No doubt, If I didn't already have a pedalboard I'd be all over it. 👍
wish it was designed to where I could have a global compression & reverb NOT assigned to a block (always on) & have those two blocks for the other block FX optons, but hey, cant have everything. sounds great laid out nicely otherwise.
The real deal I still believe is to use a few single original Boss pedals. I’m old-school and do fine with it.❤
Great! Plasticky spongyness even with a 10k guitar. 6k? Dunno. Might be Better then mymoldme… loved that.
