    Hands down. Neoplans were the best buses SEPTA had

      I can almost guarantee you that if SEPTA didn't get the Neoplans that they would have gotten a fleet of 1984-1991 Flyers/ New Flyers

    Denver RTD had Neoplan AN440's in the mid eighties 5000-5099, 5100-5199, 5200-5303 1986 models with 6V92's HT-747 they were work horses, they had Rockwell heavy duty rear axles because of the cold heavy snow, also glass pack exhaust mufflers you could hear them a block away that roar sound was sweet, they retired the last of them in 2012.

    I was a mechanic there for 14 years and three depots....Germantown......Luzerne....and .....Midvale....and back to the brake shop! Those Neoplans were a good sturdy bus the 8000 series (92 series Detroits).....while the 3000's (D decks)....handled a little better and were faster!!

    #8788 at 7:01 still had a very powerful engine and was still in very great shape based on the paint job, livery, and the taillights. I miss these buses with all my heart. They, along with the Budd M-3 Almond Joys, are why I loved SEPTA as a kid.

      Same here. I miss gettting on those 8400 and 8500 series Neos on the Frankford routes like the R, K, and 26. Fun times. I remember taking different routes to go to school just to get on those bad boys. One day in 97', I took 8815 on route K going to Midvale and Ridge, and then I took 8480 on route 26 to Broad and Olney and I took 8655 on route C to school. Best day ever. Oh btw, Im down the block from route C lol

      @@daniel022209 LOL. Wow. Sounds like something we truly did as kids. I was born in 1990, so I didn't get to enjoy these buses as much as you, but I still remember these days like they were yesterday. I've taken Route 3 throughout most of my childhood and I always lit up whenever I saw those buses especially with the way SEPTA used to look back in those days. These are the sights and sounds of the 90s indeed!

      @@wook1990 yessir. Made me wish I was born in the 70s or something just to enjoy the 80s and 90s a lot more. I was born in 87 so I got a golden chance. What parent allows their kid to take SEPTA at age 9? I did lol and it was fun. I remember another time I was supposed to go straight to a nanny that was supposed to watch me on a Saturday morning in 1997 and I got on the K which I believe was a 3000 series Neo and then I got on the 26 which was 8454 to One-Olney Shopping Center to the last stop lol. I got on it again and it dropped me off at Broad and Olney. Got on the subway to Hunting Park, chilled at the McDonalds eating some nuggets lol, then I took the C on a NABI to the nanny, who was only 5 to 7 minutes away lol.

      @wook1990 5 лет назад +1

      @@daniel022209 Sounds like you had a blast! Although I was allowed to take SEPTA also at age 9, I didn't really go that far until I was about 11-12 especially when I started taking the bus to school. I just wish I was older back in the early parts of these Neos' lives. I remember riding in the car to my cousin's house in Olney. I would always bypass Midvale Depot and I would see retired SEPTA buses just sitting in a lot. At that time, I didn't know what was going on because I was too young but in 2008 when the last remaining Neos were winding down, I learned the cold truth that they were being retired in June of that year. So I looked back at my past and realized why those buses sat at Midvale. They were not only retired, but scrapped. And if only I had a better cell phone or even my own camera back then, I would have taken plenty of pictures, recorded videos and audio files, and relive our wonderful past.

      @@wook1990 i feel your pain bro. By the time high school started for me, I saw these buses less and less. If I had known these were still around in 2002, I would have went to a Northeast area high school lol. The fact is that transit buses are no longer being sported with diesel engines anymore because of the environment. Diesel is what made buses special. You dont get that same feel with a hybrid. My last ride on a 8000 series Neo was back in June of 2001 on route K and it was 8621. Cool ride but it was thee last one unfortunately. You couldn't find them anywhere. Neoplan USA will always be thee best bus series Philadelphia ever had.

    I rode those Neoplans from Bridge & Pratt on the Rt. 14 to get to Swenson Skills Center back in 1987-1990. And I also rode them for daily travel back then too. I remember riding on them when they were first put in to service in the early 80s to replace the older GMC Flexible buses that I rode when I was a young kid.

    • @daniel022209
      @daniel022209 5 лет назад

      Man you had an enjoyable childhood. Living around Bridge and Pratt back then meant you had a 100 percent chance of riding the 8200 to 8800 series Neos out of Comly and Frankford. I was so close to riding on 8289 in 1997 before it was retired. I think that bus had a ZF transmission especially 8299. A lot of the AKs had transmission trouble back then.
