    First in a series of video clips from some of my earliest material, this footage of SEPTA bus and trackless trolley action was filmed in September and October of 1996.

    This footage is golden, i was a teenager around this time. But I still remember my last ride on a Septa GMC RTS bus. 8091 on Route 52 in 1997.

      It’s so weird to see these buses with Septa livery I grew up in neoplan an440, an460, Nabi new flyer era of septa in the early to mid 2000s, septa has come a long way

    I always wanted to ride 8435-8561 on the 5 from Bridge and Pratt to 3rd and Oregon in South Philadelphia but that will never happen. I miss the old 5 so much and 8435-8561 made the run fun.

    Man I liked the look and sound of these buses, it is sad they aren't around today. Back then as I kid I enjoyed the bus rides and the sounds. Nowadays if I am one of the current busses I will likely have my earpods on.

      Same here especially those older NEOPLANS the ones with the chrome NEOPLAN emblem written in the back.

    Joe my favorite part is the 8000 series with the Detroit Diesel Series 92

      only in your opinion. the new layout is much better. plus it's not falling apart.

      @@MrRonfelder new layout may be cleaner but it's less organized. Nothing is centered around the MFL anymore.

    Me Nana and my family went to Frankford Terminal in the 90s that was fun back then I went there in 2017 and back to Center City

    I just heard the sound of the old fashioned warning indicators and the air starter from a Neoplan at 9:00. 😁..music to my ears.

    I remember that 8445 bus 🚌. I'm glad I got to ride it before SEPTA retired it.

    A fresh coat of the blue paint they have now along the line, they could have kept this entire layout from here to 69th tbh

      That was Channel 3. Our CBS station here.

    0:23 Wow! I didn't know SEPTA used to have New Flyer trolleybuses back in the day! I assumed they started off with Neoplan ones and their first New Flyers were low floors, since I don't see too many videos of these on SEPTA! They look exactly like Boston's too! Nice video. You got a new sub from me!

      The trolley coaches are actually AM General units, built at the same time as the AM Generals that used to run in Seattle. The only two examples of AM General units built... and now none of them survive, either here or in Seattle.

      AM General built the design under license from New Flyer (at the time known as Flyer Industries) as its own Model 10240TC Metropolitan.
      Easiest way to tell them apart is the lack of a hump over the rear window which the Flyer E800 had.

    Those trolley buses look a lot like the Muni buses in San Francisco. Same models?

      Not quite. The old Muni ones were Flyer E800 models; SEPTA's were AM General models. Built under license from Flyer, I think.

      @@trainman1971 Muni's were built around 1975 or 1976. They had diesel buses in the same model too. So did Santa Monica.

      @@janettemcclelland2959 SEPTA's were built in 1979, but entry into service delayed into 1982 by various electrical issues, including reports of people getting shocked as they stepped on and off coaches.
