Anyone can appreciate the musicality in this piece but only guitarists will truly recognise the technique and decades of working on the guitar behind it. Nobody else could have come up with this. All the other greats of the guitar world stood in awe of Jeff Beck.

Exactly! Gilmour tried to learn this and came to the conclusion that it was impossible. Beck was the ultimate guitarist's guitarist. Incredible amount of nuance in Jeff's playing which makes him instantly recognizable and impossible to copy.

No lyrics we created for this masterpiece, only feeling.
Freddie Mercury and Elton John used to sit and listen to this together, in awe of his skill. I suggest you check out the live version of this song played at Ronnie Scott's.
    He had everyone spellbound.
Brian May, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Bonjovi we in the audience gobsmacked! This concert was made into a DVD and Jeff won a Grammy for best Instrumental for his cover of the Beatles song A Day In The Life recorded at the concert.
    I wish I was there.

I think there were skeptics when this came out. I think there were some who thought, yeah, the sound is otherworldly and beautiful and searing with emotion...but can he really still play that LIVE? And the great Live at Ronnie Scott's concert and DVD shutdown the skeptics. Jeff just really was THAT good. Thanks for this reaction, and we hope you do more. Jeff Beck meant a lot to his fans, more so than most musicians ever could. He was in his own category.

Thank you for playing this haunting, melancholy, but beautiful song. I think it was a fitting last tribute to Jeff. I had never heard this song before, but Brian May (Queen) recommended everyone listen to it for Jeff. So different than anything I have been familiar with. After hearing this, I listened to the complete album this song came from "Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop". The whole album is wonderful, but none of the other songs comes close to this beauty. I couldn't find anything listed with lyrics. RIP Jeff you will be missed.

@@Roddy1965 I was typing the same message when i saw yours ;-) The Final Peace is the very first Jeff Beck song i ever heared : the album was just released (in France it was in 1981) and a friend of mine put it directly (although it was the last song). We listened to it 7 or 8 times in a row then i ran to the music store and bought the album, BBB and Wired. Only Jeff Beck could make a guitar kiss you on the cheek, then punch you in the face - all in about 30 seconds sometimes. I've never heard another guitarist come so close to emulating a human voice. You should check out his (album) version of "Elegy For Dunkirk" featuring Olivia Safe. There are moments you can't tell where her voice ends and his guitar starts. Just stunning and gutwrenching!

I've watched videos of his performances that focus on his technique but I'm still awed by the fact that songs such as this are the product of that technique alone. Jeff Beck grew up in the original rock 'n' roll era so when I hear songs like this I think that he must have been influenced by Santo and Johnny's "Sleepwalk". It also makes me think of Peter Green's album, "End of the Game", another iconic guitarist who passed away in 2020.

Believe it or not, around 67-68 I was about 15yrs old, The Yardbirds, were playing Detroit. They came into the 'Metro' area where I lived, just out of downtown. At a Ski-Lodge, (Mt. Holly), in Holly, Michigan, mid-summer, they played for about 200 kids. I was front stage, three feet from stage, (they were on a 2' high stage). Right in front of me is Jeff Beck AND Jimmy Page, playing in "The YardBirds". Picture it!!! Magic Moment in Music History! Shit

As far as emotion on the guitar goes Jeff and Gary Moore are the greatest. As far as all-round skill Rory Gallagher is probably the most underrated but also the most acknowledged by his peers (if you know you know kind of thing). Those in the know understand just how great and influential the Yardbirds were but most people won't even know who they were so reactors like you discovering this music and pushing it out there is how we move forward and tell the story.
