Jeff was my favorite from his generation's LEGENDARY guitarists. Jeff can make the guitar express HIS emotions in a way that no one has since. He was so imaginative and expressive.

Jeff Beck got sounds out of a guitar that made the guitar think "I didn't know I could do that!"
He didn't do anything so crazy that Tal couldn't keep up with it to be sure, but yeah he obviously did some improvising there that caught her attention. One of the things I love about Tal Wilkenfeld is how thrilled she is to be on stage playing. The joy she gets from it is palpable. Aside from her amazing ability and talent, I think her love of it is infectious. Especially to some of these old-timers who have been doing it for decades.

Jeff was totally unique. There's really nothing to compare him with. He took his own path and didn't care about what was popular or trendy. He did his own thing right up until the end. Truly one of a kind.

This concert became a link between my daughter and me. I'd sometimes play this in the car as I took her to school way back when, and she ended up loving it! We've listened to it together dozens of times and have been to see Jeff together twice. Both times we traveled have away across the country to see him play. I still can't accept we'll never get to see him again. RIP Jeff Beck.

He'd have the latest hits ( Funk, R&B, Rock, Latin etc) ...record them on this big reel to reel system to play at his parties ...and then give me the original records to keep. Music 🎵🎵🎵 was always playing in the house and car. I was a live on air radio DJ in New Orleans for 21 years. To this day... first thing I do when I rise, while coffee ☕ is brewing...is to turn on our outstanding community radio station in Tampa ( WMNF) . Gotta start the day with great music 🎵🎵🎵.Can't live without it. 😊

Years ago, I read a review of a Jeff Beck show that I had just attended and the writer referred to Beck’s playing style as “groundbreaking guitar acrobatics”.
I always thought that was a brief, but fairly accurate description of just part of his talents.
I had the pleasure of seeing him live 10
times over the years, and every performance was jaw dropping.
He certainly wasn’t mainstream, but he was the best at what he did and he did it the way that he wanted to - which few people in this life get to do.
RIP.
One of my all time favorite drummers Vinnie Colaiuta.
Beck was uncopiable, always improvising, always generous to his bandmates shining. Total gentleman. He was also a top-notch hotrod builder, wrenched his collection himself. I saw him on the same ticket as SRV. They were mutual admirers and friends. When they toured they shared top billing; one night Jeff would headline, the next SRV. Neither wanted to be top dog. Mad respect for each other. Hope there's an afterlife with Fender Strats for them both.
Jeff Beck’s best album is called Jeff Beck Group. It has Bob Tench on vocals Max Middleton on keyboards Cozy Powell on drums and Clive Chapman on base. You’ve never heard him play like this before. The entire album is fantastic. It has one instrumental at the very end. All other songs have incredible vocals. It’s one of the best examples of how great guitar player plays with a vocalist. 🕊❤️🎼

Jeff Beck is CRIMINALLY underrated on the all time guitar hero lists. Cause he went his own way, which just makes him even cooler.
Wow, really? Depends on who’s being surveyed: if guitarists are being asked, he’s in the top five almost always. If it’s the general public, then in the top 20 from what I’ve seen, depending on the age of the demographic. He was never the lead guitarist of a hyper-popular band ( the bands he was in did well, but not like Zeppelin, Cream, or Guns N’ Roses) his name didn’t resonate in pop culture like Page, Clapton, Van Halen , Slash etc
@@helenespaulding7562 fair play but that’s my point. Since he wasn’t in the spotlight he gets less recognition (from people who aren’t as knowledgeable). From many who know their music, you’re absolutely correct. Also the trips out of “4/4 based blues rock pop” etc.
Forget the lists. Ask the people that matter - the players. True story from the Crossroads festivals. Every time out, the lineups would change, but Jeff would go on right before Eric played last. And Eric had no trouble attracting top-notch players with top-notch egos. Yet, when Jeff went on, they were all crammed in the wings like little fan boys trying to figure out "how the fuck does he DO that"! And poor Eric is slowly steaming thinking "how the fuck am I supposed to get up on stage after THAT"!
After watching the Live At Ronnie Scott’s performance, go checkout the studio version, and the entire “Guitar Shop” LP.
I have the LP.. double set.. priceless!!
The amazing thing about Tal Wilkenfeld, the bassist, is that she never picked up a guitar before 2000, did not pick up a bass before 2003, but she got so good so fast that she was touring with Chick Correa, and then Jeff Beck here in 2007. 4 years!!! She has also recorded with Prince and Herbie Hancock, among others.
Thanks for that narrative about TAL the bass player. My first time watching her perform. BRAVO TAL❗Raw talent can emerge at any time in our lives. You either have it or you don't.

As I get older and have listened to Kenny Wayne, SRV, Jimi, EVH, Kingfish....you have to play some of him guys...seriously, a 24 year old Blues Guitarist MASTER, Jeff Beck is still my favorite....Buddy Guy....love all guitar Players!

Great stuff, and it’s not even the best example from the show. It was taken from ‘Live at Ronnie Scott’s’. If you can still find the disc (preferably Blu-ray), you REALLY SHOULD buy it. I’ve watched it about a hundred times and it’s still magic.

Jeff always said he would never have another singer in his band after Rod Stewart left the Jeff Beck band. Jeff thought Rod was one of the best singers in the world. Check them out doing “ Let Me Love You.” Rod’s incredible voice with Jeff’s incredible guitar playing makes this one of the best songs ever recorded. Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stone’s plays Bass guitar on the track.

I'm pretty sure Jimmy Page was too, and I think I heard Brian May was there. And a lot more of England's elite musicians, because it was JEFF, and they were all amazed by how he kept getting better as he got older (and also there in support of Ronnie Scott, whose legendary club was struggling). RIP Jeff...the world's a little darker place without you. You're also right that "Cause We Ended" would be another GREAT choice for a reaction.

Every guitar guy from the 60's and 70's idolized Jeff Beck. Even guitar heroes like Clapton, Page, Iommi, knew this guy was the real boss of his instrument.
Tal, on Bass, is Becks equal, but on bass guitar. I first heard beck back in 1964, the year I started playing drums. In the mid 70's our band opened for him in Cleveland, Oh. RIP Jeff.

You are right "You didn't do that in rehearsal" It is never the same and she just loves seeing what the master comes up with. Sometimes he is joking around and she laughs. That's what i love about the 1st year 2007.
Beck was very much a musical father figure for Tal. I can't even imagine how devastated she was when he died.
From the first few bars, Jeff's guitar sounded like a whole Army. His style is completely his own. Nobody compares him to any other musician's sound. I’m guessing every night playing with Jeff Beck is like a new show to them. They got one job look surprised because they can’t hide it regardless. Nice reaction again guys.
I thought the bass player Tal was just enjoying what Jeff was doing. Frank Zappa said that drummer Vinnie Colaiuta was one of the best he had worked with. Hope you noticed that Beck doesn't use a pick. Whether you react to it or not, watch his performance of the song "Where Were You" from this same concert, where you can see his technique of playing a melody by manipulating harmonics with his whammy bar.
Beck is one of the most unique and creative electric lead guitarists of all time. NOBODY has ever come close to emulating him. Ritchie Blackmore said of Jeff Beck something along the lines of "His guitar has notes that mine doesn't."

Tal Wilkenfeld, badass on bass and having so much fun! She was just 21 in this video. They are having a conversation. The song has a chord progression and a structure and both know where they are in the harmony and rhythm. So Beck plays a phrase, often improvised in the moment but derived from the chord progression, saying (with his guitar) "Catch this" and Tal says with her bass, "Yeah, back at you and what about this?!" And so on. Jason Rebello (keys) and Vinnie Colaiuta (drums) are participating in this and completely locked in, but the dramatic spotlight in this number is on the interplay between Tal and Jeff.

I found this Ronnie Scott's performance on a blu-ray at Costco about 11 years ago -- it's freakin' amazing!! One of the best concert discs ever! And a bonus set of Jeff with the Big Town Playboys doing rock-a-billy, which is one of the guitar styles that got Jeff started as kid (according to an interview on that same disc).
Ask any guitarist worth his salt, who the best all around player is.,,,,,It's Jeff Beck None better,,,,, ever!🎸

I've been waiting for someone to react to something from the Ronnie Scott's shows. This is the best concert I've ever seen by Jeff, and the whole band was excellent. NOBODY else played guitar in his unique style. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were in the audience, and Eric Clapton joins the band later for a couple of his favorite blues tunes. Magic.

I LOVE the video of this performance in London. Can’t remember the venue but I do know that both Jimmy Page as well as Robert Plant were in the audience. And I’m sure a bunch of other luminaries I didn’t recognize.

@@helenespaulding7562 Yes, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club is still open. This is a legendary small music venue in London. It opened its doors in 1959 and has been continuously in operation up till now. Most jazz musicians of the last few generations have played there as well as people such as James Brown and Little Richard. It seats slightly over 200 audience members.

Besides being an absolute magician and virtuoso on guitar, what impressed me most about Jeff Beck playing live was that he always looked like he was having such a great time just playing on stage. Tal Wilkenfeld was the perfect bass player for him in that respect in his later career, because she gives off that same energy with every performance.
As you continue your deep dive, you really should check out something from his 'supergroup" collaboration with Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge. They released one studio album "Beck Bogert & Appice" that was a mix of covers including Black Cat Moan and Sweet Sweet Surrender by Don Nix and Superstition by Stevie Wonder and original songs such as Lady. They do a very soulful cover of "I'm So Proud" by Curtis Mayfield as well. Any one of those would be a great selection, or any other song from the album.
Tal is a phenomenal bass player in her own right. She ranks up there with the alltime greats imho. Story has it she showed up at Beck’s house unannounced bass in hand said I play bass. He invited her in to play and that started a fantastic musical friendship and connection. By the way Vinnie on drums is no slouch either. Played with Frank Zappa. Great band here.

I seriously thought the girl playing bass was about 12 years old. Apparently, Tal Wilkenfeld was about twenty when Beck and her first started playing together.

Beck was amazing a giant among artists, giant among guitarists, giant to take any genre on a kill it...watch this entire show no one and i mean no 😔 ne can play tremelo and pitch like Beck. Even Page and Clapton know who the true no commercial guitar god is...🎸🎸🎸🎸BECK his innovation and contributions might only be some ghly and d by Hendrix. Nobody and i mean nobody steals or borrows from Beck its too difficult not once in 50 yrs plus did he do two things remotely even similar. This is live at the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club London. He had to tone the sound down because it’s a relatively small venue. In the audience was Eric Clapton amongst others. Clapton came on stage and played!
