556/223 had problems with steel cased ammo back when the casings were still varnished. Being a straight walled cartridge, it wasn’t difficult to get enough buildup in the chamber for the round to become almost impossible to remove. 7.62x39 is tapered so it only has to overcome a very tiny amount of resistance to begin its travel rearward. But in any case, modern steel cased ammo isn’t varnished so it’s not much of a problem.

Another advantage to having a rifle chambered in 5.56mm is that you can shoot .223 out of it. The rounds are virtually identical (outside of 5.56 having slightly higher chamber pressures than a .223, which is why you don't want to shoot 5.56mm out of a .223 gun) so it gives a bit of a wider variety of ammo you can shoot. Also, with the weight thing...that's why I love my Mini-14.
I know the Galil Ace exists, but I'd love to see a more traditional AK on the channel chambered in 308 for us AK bois sad about the ammo ban that think 556 isn't good enough.
Got my hands on a 74u krink chambered in 223/556. Finally fired it off last weekend and all I got to say, it was a blast. No double feeding, no cycling issues... Made my AR buddy yell in frustration. For something without a stock, it's pretty accurate between shots. Definitely not something I'm regretting buying
My friend in NJ shipped his standard mags to me in NC, from his parents house in PA, until such a time that he moves, or is freed from the tyrannical oppression there.
I just wish gun owners would make their states secede from Leftist-owned Weimarica already. The left's always coming for your rights, they can't be your neighbours or your friends. Protecting yourself and your nations from communist subversion is necessary, and secession is the only way to do it legally.
@@bobthebuilder9339 Is he too radical for you? Well, I don't think we should secede; I think the very notion of granting American soil to communists is abhorrent, and that they, being people who are against the US Constitution, should, instead of having American soil be granted to them in a secession, they should be removed from their positions of power, by force if necessary.
Great example of that one piece of milled steel turned into a platform of one of the most reliable guns available!!! Love the Reynolds reference!!! Yeah more 5.56 or even 308. Huge fan of AK74u.

My units interpreter had an Ak that his dad gave him, and his cleaning regimen consisted of an oily rag and a set of shoelaces with knots tied along their length that were oiled and pulled through the barrel. While we were neck deep in our M4's we were all hate staring at Aby after his 30 second cleaning routine on a weapon that was older than all of us by at least two decades. I love my AR's but please believe that when the unspecified virus of unknown origin hit i went and picked up an AK variant, because I can't replace a busted gas tube or broken rings but ill probably always have access to shoelaces 👍
The Joergsprave line killed me. Did not expect it at all. Hadn't heard about the ban since I don't have a rifle yet(just pistols so far) and have yet to buy an AK. Sad news to hear. Love your videos as always though. I'm always a fan of educational videos and you explained the milled vs stamped difference very well.
I do see 1 problem with a 556 AK: 556 AK mags are uncommon, and (IIRC) there's is no single, standard 556 AK magazine. There are several competing proprietary 556 AK magazine patterns.
Adding an adjustable gas system could help with the recoil a lot. Based on the bolt velocity when it hits the rear, you could get away with a lot less gas.
I was looking into those trumpet brakes a while back. They have a variant that is slim enough to allow bayonet use, which is a cool feature if you have a lug on your rifle. They're not a bad price either. #akgnotificationsquad

I ran a .223 Saiga for near 15 years, easily my favorite gun, ran flawlessly. Never understood the 5.56 AK hate.
It seems stupid
I do see 1 problem with a 556 AK:
556 AK mags are uncommon, and (IIRC) there's is no single, standard 556 AK magazine. There are several competing proprietary 556 AK magazine patterns.
I'm a little tempted by the Zastava M85 that uses AR magazines, for maximum heresy.
That action on that milled AK even sounds buttery smooth
Adding an adjustable gas system could help with the recoil a lot. Based on the bolt velocity when it hits the rear, you could get away with a lot less gas.
As the AK fired the inferior 5.56, a thunderclap erupted over Mikhail Kalashnikov's grave...
I was looking into those trumpet brakes a while back. They have a variant that is slim enough to allow bayonet use, which is a cool feature if you have a lug on your rifle. They're not a bad price either.
#akgnotificationsquad
If you made a 556 AK that takes STANAG magazines, instant buy for me. Zastava imported some for a hot second, but I cant find them anywhere.
