  • The KS-23 is well known to video game players but may be more of a mystery to the general firearm community. It's a insane concept born from a blem anti aircraft barrel. In today's video we review one of the few examples in the United States using hand loaded 4 GUAGE shells.

    Hello! I apologize for bad English, I write through Google translator. My colleague, he is responsible for security, served in the special forces for a long time, he laughed like a two-meter seagull when he watched this video, he says that they used such only with gas and rubber bullets (or rather, they trained, in practice he did not use this weapon). But from a bullet weighing 1000 grains, he really yelled, especially at the way one of the authors of the channel cursed after the shot)) He sends you a big hello and says that he is now your fan.

    Interesting with the gelatin block. The Brenneke Black Magic 12ga is actually a lot nastier than the 4ga, splits the block four ways! (via testing by ShootingTheBull410) So slug design apparently goes a long way! Of course the composition of the gelatin will make a difference as well.

    • @alephkasai9384
      @alephkasai9384 Год назад +6

      Ah yeah, a problem with high power rounds like this is that they penetrate much more cleanly through a human and not much force is actually transferred onto the flesh.
      Even a normal rifle round would do more damage to rhe gelatin.
      Of course, if there were bones in the way the effect would be way more devastating but going through just flesh, the slug would only leave a clean hole and not mangled flesh like some rifle rounds are known to do.
      This is why many rounds intended for use against humans are made to fragment or tumble upon hitting a man.

    • @crisnmaryfam7344
      @crisnmaryfam7344 9 месяцев назад +4

      And what makes ytou think a 12 guage one would be stronger than a 4 guage version. Any shell design can be replicated for any guage shotgun. So saying "this round" is better than "that round" is pretty ignorant when you can just make the identical round in a bigger nastier package.
      12ga American is a 1/4 inch. 4 guage Uk/Russian is a whole inch, 4 times bigger. Im guessing a 4 guage slug of that design would "vaporize" the gel block.

    The KS-23 was designed in the 1970s for suppressing prison riots. It was created by TsNIITochMash, a key Soviet weapons developer, for the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD). The barrel for the KS-23 were made from 23 mm aircraft gun barrels that were rejected due to manufacturing flaws. These rejected barrels were deemed to be acceptable for the lower stress of firing slugs and less-lethal rounds, and thus were cut down in length for use as shotgun barrels. The KS-23 began to see use during the mid-1980s by several MVD forces. During the 1990s, research was made into improving the original design to make it usable in confined indoor areas. Two prototypes were proposed, the KS-23M and KS-23K, although only the M version saw use.

      When you read wikipedia, pay attention to numbers in brackets like this [3]. Well, that claim doesn't have that bracketed number as it is unsourced. The claim itself travels from blog to blog and nobody bothers to reveal their sources.
      There are also a different version of that claim floating around. The other claim is, they are using same tools as for aircraft guns. The aircraft gun barrel has much thicker wall, and those walls are thinner to the end. Turning down and hand fitting every barrel to the specs would take a lot of time and effort.
      It's like, what if instead of going through hassle of repurposing failed Mosin barrels for TT-33, we used same tools to produce pistol barrels from the start? I know, mind blown!
      Then of course there are smooth bore versions that would be utterly non-sensical to produce from aircraft gun barrels.

Reading through gun forums I found out that the owners of TOZ-123, for the most part, have to resort to refitting and reloading GSh-23 brass for that matter, and I think, if I remember it correctly, flare pistol casings of appropriate diameter.
    Also, KS-23 slug ammo is supposed to be used against vehicles, to be shot at engine area
