So wait, you're telling me that the psu in computers used to be able to feed power to two monitors, a graphics card, the motherboard/processor, AND a speaker off of solely 150 watts? That's insane man, kind of makes me wonder how much of the increased power consumption in our PC's is because of the increased demand from the components themselves and how much of it is from a lack of optimization in the consumption from manufacturers. Sort of how code used to be more condensed and optimized when data was a concern vs how it is now where games like warzone take up 300 gigs of data despite only being a shooter.
Yeah, it is totally crazy. Completely different times but still impressive what was possible with this limited amount of power and resources. I can completely understand you point of "inefficient" coding. As someone working in IT this annoys me a lot. So much disk space, internet bandwidth and therefore energy overall is waisted because of poor coding and implementation. Modern hardware is super efficient and crazy fast but the different layers on top make the difference.
