You can hot swap batteries on old lenovo thinkpads too. Both ultrabay battery and main battery are hot swappable. For me, laptops from period from 2007 to 2012 were the best for upgradability, expandability and repairability. Laptops before 2007 were nice but these are now pretty much obsolete and limited to 32 bit cpu which is going to be supported less and less going foraward.

I own this laptop. I couldn’t find official drivers from Acer, although Acer provides drivers for many of their computers past and present. Do you know where you found drivers?

Thanks for your take on present day laptops. I agree on many of your points. All those ultrabooks is sad to see. The lack of ports hinder creativity and productivity. I would like to see a return to more ports. Thank you!

Still have this one working (except for the battery, so it has to be constantly plugged in for it to work) running 386 MB of RAM and Windows 2000 (I found it to run 2000 better than XP, also 2000 can support most XP apps with kernel extensions/compatibility layers)

Lack of ports and difficult to impossible to change the batteries in morern devices are main issues

Hello and greetings Michael, I have one similar to yours! I have an Acer TravelMate 230 laptop. It is very similar to yours - the floppy drive is on the side. I increased the RAM to the maximum and changed the hard drive to a 60 GB. Regarding the problem you have with your display why don't you try hooking up an external monitor using the BLUE VGA port on the back of your laptop and see if that works. Mine has been sitting around for so long unused that the CMOS motherboard battery went dead and I had to change it. I made a video of that and posted on my RUclips channel for the benefit of others. I'd like to ask you a favor if you would be so kind to help me I need to troubleshoot my laptop and need to know what pins/contacts are the Positive and Negative on the battery pack. My battery pack is beyond dead and I need that information. Can you help with that please? Thank you very much and have a great day.
