    Hi Julia, I was watching some of your older videos today. I noticed you put water on your pigment ink pad. Actually, Glycerin is what you need, not water. It is not dye based like the others. Just grab a small bottle of glycerin at your drug store. It works for Versamark pads too.

    • @SeniorSusieStamps

      Thank you so much Yvonne - I actually have a bottle of glycerin and wish I had known this before I tossed that ink pad. Lesson learned. I appreciate your input!!

      Do you spray glycerin? I’m not familiar with it. I’ve heard it but haven’t seen it.

    • @ycwalker52
      @ycwalker52 Год назад +8

      @@lseh no, you don’t spray it. You can get it at drug stores or even cake decorating supply shops. They use it to thin down paste cake colors when they start to dry out. For your stamp pads, you just put it on like you would an ink refill. It’s for pigment inks or embossing ink only. Don’t use it on your dye inks.

    I just purchased a full set of stampin up on Ebay. Description Said New and stilll had the plastic wrap. I was so excited. I didnt know how to open them. I got on you tube and found the exact set I purchased and saw my new set are 11 years old. They work great and arent dried out. I got lucky and thankyou for the lesson on hydrating. I might need it later.

      Absolutely and if the ink finally gives out, if the pad is still in good shape, put a close color over top and change the name! I do that frequently and it just helps grow your colors to work with.

      I have thought after making the video that distilled water might be a better option. But even if the ink becomes to dilute, you can re-ink with a similar color refill and rename the pad. I just like having a lot of color to choose from when I am doing an ink project.

      Hi Jessica! I did eventually throw away that icky green one, but all the rest work great. And I will keep spritzing with a little water periodically until the color thins out. Then you can re-ink with a similar color as long as the pad is in good shape.

    I was an avid paper arts gal in the 90's. Became board and sold everything off but my reinkers, dies and die cut machine. When Covid hit I came back to what I love most PAPER! I had little in supplies so I started buying used on Marketplace. I got some SU pads that I had reinkers for from back in the day and then some that were dry. I rehydrated and soon dried up so I took a reinker that was close to the colour of the pad and made good use of that pad (blank pads are impossible to find) and now I have my own custom colour on that pad. Nothing has gone to waste and I am building up my ink selection again on the cheap and cheerful!

    • @SeniorSusieStamps
      @SeniorSusieStamps  2 года назад

      Hey Jan - You are Brilliant! I love the fact that you saved your faves and are now using them again. I buy reinkers sometimes from ebay. And it certainly does not hurt my feelings to have custom colors that I have mixed on similar ink pads. Just so you know I will be getting rid of most of this collection of stamps and some of these ink pads over on the facebook page. If you are interested you can PM me there.

      I find that rehydrating is an ongoing process. It somewhat depends on how often I pull an ink pad to use...and personally I find adding a very close ink refill color acceptable also. I just change the name with my label maker, especially when the ink pad itself is in good condition.

    I just found this video….so much fun to see these old familiar colors! I still have a brand new Vintage Violet and I use Cranberry Crisp at Christmas a lot. I have lots of old felt pads that don’t seem to take to drinking very well…I will try using just water and see how that goes. So many tried and true colors are retiring now ( spring of ‘23) but I will keep using them. Thanks for this!

    • @SeniorSusieStamps
      @SeniorSusieStamps  Год назад

      You are so welcome Mary! I find a lot of the "New" colors are so close to some of the "Old" colors it is hard for me to really tell them apart. And that makes reinking with a very similar color very inviting. I bet some of those older felt pad will really respond to rehydrating. Sometimes it comes down to nothing lost nothing gained. If an older pad is dried out, what do you have to lose?

  • @AnnoyingNewsletters

      The only ink pads I discarded in that bunch was that nasty one that just wouldn't clean up it was icky. And that green pigment ink one which wouldn't really hydrate well. Otherwise they are all in use. I am getting ready to do a big color swatch extravaganza so will probably be rehydrating again...it's never ending.

If the stamp pad is in great condition, just rehydrate it and keep using it! As long as it is just dried out a bit you can bring them back to life!

      Thank you - yes. I find that when you rehydrate and hold them bottom side up the water can soak down into the pad which spreads the water deeper into the pad rather than just leaving it on the surface. It seems backwards but the SU pads are a bit wierd in the way they flip over. This helps to wick the water in and the ink up to the surface. That's what I find here at any rate. 😃

      Hi! Think it might be safer to use distilled water on dye ink pads and the glycerin on pigment pads. As you pointed out, you might just want to buy reinkers of a similar color and make a whole new ink pad out of them. Beware, reinkers are pretty costly now. Wouldn't it be great to go to a sale and find a bunch of reinkers! Good luck!

    I am not familiar with Stampin Up stamp pads, but I get the impression when they are closed that the pad inside is upside down and therefore stored upside down. Please excuse my ignorance, but why? Wouldn't the ink whether water based or pigment be more likely to drain from the bottom of the pad and potentially leak out and make a mess all over the lid?!
    The stamp pads I mainly have in my craft room are Momento, Archival, Versa Mark and Versa Colour, Distress Inks and Distress Oxides. I have all the distress oxides, and all their re-inkers, but as they are still juicy I have not had to re-ink them. Too be honest I have not had to re-ink any of my stamp pads even though I have been using them for years.
    Isn't it wonderful how you can revitalise water based ink pads with a little water... a great money saver!
    Thank you for sharing this helpful tip..., so until next time "happy crafting."

      Hi Gloria - The Stampin Up case is very different. The ink pad is actually on the lid, which flips open on a pin hinge and scoots up into the base. The pins slide in a groove and the case locks open. So when the case is closed with the top label up then the ink pad is actually upside down. The main ink pad I reink is of course Memento Black and Versafine Onyx Black. But I buy used frequently to increase my color range, and have had good success with this technique. Talk to you soon!!

      You're welcome Betty! I think I have only ever discarded 2 ink pads that just wouldn't come around. The rest of them are still stamping well.

    Most of mine are pigments. I bought ink when I bought the ink pads. I suggest to do so.

      Thanks Sherry - Whenever I purchase a new ink pad I always get the refill. But I have acquired a lot used, and ink colors retired.

    I have thought about trying this on some older stamp pads but I teuely think they are out of ink because The image started fading while I was using the same ink to stamp multiple times on a project.

      Hi Edith - what I usually do at that point is to get an ink refill that is close in color and reink the pad, if it is in good condition still. Refills are a lot less expensive than new ink pads. And, you can change companies as long as you stay with the ink type (water-based or pigment). Just a thought?!

    Hi! I bought a brand new ink pad. It's Delicata Golden Glitz. When I tried it, it's too watery and no pigment. How do I solve this problem?

    • @SeniorSusieStamps
      @SeniorSusieStamps  Год назад

      I am sorry you are having this problem. And with a brand new ink pad that's really frustrating. Pigment ink pads usually do better stored upside down. I would return this one and ask for a replacement. The only other thing I can think of to do is take an old credit card and squeegie the surface back and forth to work the goo back into the pigment, store it upside down and try again in a few days. Best of luck!

    Hi I just found you today and I’m so happy I can’t figure out. What is the name brand of the things that you use? I love the notebook that you have and I really really want to get one or I really need ideas for stamps I I did stamping for over 20 years and then I got had two strokes and I forgot a lot, so I wanted to leave you with a tip if you had glycerin which you can get at the pharmacy usually under two dollars like a teaspoon of glycerin to a spray bottle about 4 ounces distilled water and you’ll have a solution that’s pretty much the professional one to rehydrate your ink pad. God bless you, Grace, in
    ❤Vermont.

      Hi K - That is Stampin Up Stampin Scrub. My favorite stamp cleaner. I've tried all sorts of things and keep going back to it.

      Also, when your ink pad runs out of ink, I put a very similar refill on in and just relabel it. Someone suggested using distilled water, and that does make sense too.

      Hi Lynn - Those OWH cards sketches are wonderful - I have mine printed in a notebook in sheet protectors. It makes it really easy to flip through with scraps. Here is a link to the sketches - sandyallnock.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/OWH-Sketches-1-259-bonus.pdf

    Hi, are all stampin' up ink pads water based.

    • @SeniorSusieStamps
      @SeniorSusieStamps  8 месяцев назад

      Actually some of them in the past have been pigment. Now I believe they are all water based.

      The white ink is still a pigment ink but I believe the others are all water based as she said.

    I should have tried rehydrating instead of pitching what didn't work

    • @SeniorSusieStamps
      @SeniorSusieStamps  Год назад

      Hi Stormy - I find it works about 80% of the time. AND you can always put a similar ink refil on top if you want to. I like to rehydrate them a bit first just to swell the pad up before I add ink to an old pad.
