MISTAKE: I said Versafine Clair is a dye ink and it is NOT. VERSAFINE CLAIR IS A PIGMENT INK!! MY APOLOGIES! PIGMENT INKS ARE OPAQUE and DYE INKS ARE TRANSLUCENT! (I might have mis read the screen during the video but the worksheet is correct). That's 2/2 Laurel. Maybe I should go on and retire, lol.
It's an oil-based pigment ink rather than a water-based pigment ink.
I was going to say the same. Glad you caught it. Love my VersaFine Clair.
@@LeeAnnGetsCrafty glad to hear i bought 2 and am going to be buying more, i tested out one of the pads i bought and loved it. I had heard good things!
@@theniffs I'm on their design team for the second year, I would not be if I didn't stand behind it.
@@LeeAnnGetsCrafty Nocturne is my favorite!
Straight glycerin works best in place of embossing "ink." It's just the same when used in crafting.
I think you should buy the re inker AFTER -YOU USED THE INK LONG ENOUGH TO KNOW YOU LOVE IT ❤️LOVE THE COLOR 💞AND REACH FOR IT OFTEN, 🤷🏻♀️
I think I could toss them all but few of each major color🤦🏻♀️ n my faves I reach most for are my 15-20 distress oxides!❤️❤️❤️
That’s what I do now. I have repurchased same colour inkers while others are still in wrappers
I like how you explain foam vs felt pads. A lot of time, the manufacturer doesn’t tell you what kind of pad they are using, and it make a difference. You’re a good salesperson for Catherine Pooler dye. I think, I will give them a try. 😉
Folks, water-soluble means the ink will run if it is in contact with water. Waterproof means just that, you can use them with water. Hope this helps.
Reinkers are so important. Back a few decades ago, in my broke 20's, I would always say buy one pad and its reinker, rather than two pads. (This was also before the internet having everything online. If you didn't get the reinker at the time, you might never find it again.)
Thank you Laurel for the fun and very interesting video. I will have to check out Catherine Poolers’s inks.
Great video explaining the different inks. I get so confused when ordering ink because I forget which ink does what! I’m saving this video for future reference 💕
I have so much fun watching and listening to you on your videos. I may or may not make the card you feature, and I just have more sunshine simply by tuning in. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much for the video! It's packed with such useful hints!
So much goodie info! Thanks
Hello Laurel! Thanks for your pros and cons videos. Really helpful for the beginner I am!
Laurel, great video. Thanks for showing the differences. Appreciate you.
Excellent tutorial, very well said. Tfs
right now I'm into mini set, gave away most of my big sets.
Awesome information. Thanks for that. I enjoy your quirkiness so much.
Great video with a plethora of ink info...thanks so much...just as important to KNOW your supplies as to use and KNOW what to expect!
Very informative and now I need to purchase re-inkers for my inks. Thank you for the information sheet.
Thanks for the info-and the comparisons
Thank you so much. I have learnt heaps.
THANKS for this info, Laurel! It is overwhelming to purchase inks, with the NUMEROUS types of inks/colors available out there! I have been stamping for 7 years now, and STILL get quite confused when I need to purchase inks. I especially appreciate your advice about getting the ink refills! Thank you....thankyou.....!
Great video! Answered my questions! Thanks!
I don’t even make cards but I love watching you! Thanks for making videos and taking my mind of things, entertaining me and for always bringing a smile to my face 🙏💜
Awe, this is so kind! Thanks so much!
Thank you! I am obsessed with Catherine Pooler everything! I usually don't need all the ink colors but her color wheel has tempted me to get them all!
Her wheel was genius.
Great great video. Thank you. And I adore your personality!
Thank you for the great Video. I have tried several different inks an not really satisfied with any of them. I will take your advice and order the Catherine Pooler products.
Greetings and Respect to you Ms. Laurel, thank you for sharing this video, I learned things, and you taught me it is okay not to own every ink pad set, giggles... And I will check out your favorite brand, I salute all the people whom share... Please do not retire.
Buy ink pads at estate sales. They are usually pretty fresh, and they cost around a dollar each. I've bought 35 ink pads this way in the last year and only 5 of them were clunkers.
I just happen to come across her ink pads. I loved that they have the reinkers too. I like that you can do all that I'm looking to do with inks. Embossing, water spots. Hopefully sale is still on. My big problem is what you stated... I'd want every color. Everytime I'm doing a project I end up not having the color I want.when first started doing Embroidery I was able to pick out 50 spools of thread.. yep, you guessed it, there was a color I needed and didn't have it. I also love the color....lol thanks for sharing this info. I need to print or copy it and have in my note book..ty. just saw below, will be printing it out.. thanks!!
I loved this video. I will be buying Catherine Pooler inks - they look delightful!!!
they are everything!
Well now i need Catherine Pooler inks!
Excellent and very informative video thank you so much 👍 I love CP ink pads too! ⭐️🏆
Hmm. I did not know many of the things you said about Catherine pooled inks. Very informative
Very informative, Laurel, thank you! 🌈💌
Thanks Laurel….this beginner is busy saving your reviews and learning so much about the important things….the basics 😀
Hi, Absolutely great educational video. Im new to card making so learning about ink pads was a must. Ive heard a lot of good comments about Catherine Pooler's ink pads. A lovely card.Thank you for sharing. Luv from the UK x
I agree! Catherine Pooler is the best on the market!
My first visit to your videos.... I like your info presentation! Thank you for sharing!
I am not surprised you worked some Juniper Mist in there! Good comparisons.
Your channel just popped up. I've been stamping for over 20 years and I STILL have my original Stamp'n Up pads but I've been looking for another good dye ink pad, waffling between Hero Arts, Alta New, and SSS saturated inks. I have heard Catherine Pool inks mentioned on a couple of other channels and you have convinced me to try them. I love my Oxide Inks ( have them all) but I do have some Distress and was buying both when new colors were introduced. I will stop doing that. I am definitely one of those crafters who have to have everything. That has to stop, too. Thank you, Laurel.
I do love the Versafine pads... Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I do love watching your videos.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the great ink pad review. 😊
Great informative video ❤ thanks for sharing and happy crafting Hugs xx
I was thinking of purchasing dye inks and was not sure about the Catherine Pooler, but after watching your video I am sold. Can you suggest which colours I should start my collection with? Thank you for the great video!
Great review, thank you.
Looking forward to your destressed ink video
Good education on ink pad and their ink. 👍
Where can I get a copy of your pros and cons of inks that you showed in your video. It looks super handy
Awesome awesome video!!
I love this great info
Great video! Thanks! My favorite black ink is archival ink because it is not water reactive, I do a lot of watercolor and want my sentiment hold up. But you made a great point that you C.P. ink allows for heat embossing which makes it water resilient. And because it's did juicy it may actually sink into mutt cold press watercolor papers easier since they have a rough surface that can bff challenging to stamp. Great ideas and video. I think I will subscribe! 💖🌟
Oh yes.... Juicy foam pads will work better on the textured watercolored papers for sure! Good tip! And thanks so much for subbing too!
Thank you for sharing your videos
Thanks so much for all of the good information. Could you tell me/us what is the difference between Versamark and Versafine inks?
Hi Laurel, Thank You so much I loved your crafty tutorial I found it really helpful & u wear very Informative about everything Please Keep them coming Stay Safe Stay We Lin 👍❤️
🐶🌸❤️
Thank you so much!
I am tagging this because I never can remember.. you are so right, never get an entire set just to have them…. Yesterday I believe it, you buy and I pad get a refill!! You won’t regret it.
Great video with lots of wonderful tips! I use exactly the same inks as you! Sharing on my Facebook for anyone who has questions. Thanks❤️
Thanks for sharing my friend!
Archival Ink, and Memento Ink by Tsukineko are not water soluble--they do not run if inked over.
Memento will smear with water-based markers, but not alcohol markers (once it's dried).
Laurel, I am with you on buying ink refills because we live in the desert of the SW USA. EVERYTHING gets sucked dry in short order. My beef is that many companies do not sell refills and colors get discontinued as trends change. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to find refills for favorite colors, which I am trying to do as I type this. Also, I wish Catherine Pooler offered the ink cubes because I have limited storage space. I can store 4 cubes in the space of one full size ink pad. I make trays out of heavy cardstock that fit in the ink storage units and label the fronts of those trays with color name and swatch. I almost always make A2 size cards so the cube size isn't a big issue for me. Thanks for the tip on the Wow embossing ink too. I am more than ready to try a different brand. Have a great day.
On the translucent to opaque continuum, dye-based inks are more transparent and pigment inks tend to the opaque side, one of the reasons you generally don't find white dye inks and people don't layer pigment inks (though they may blend them).
smart girl!
Layering pigment inks works well as long as you dry between layers and keep in mind which colors go down in which order.
I have the party collection but I want the spa collection too🥰
My one complaint is about Tim Holtz/Ranger. THeir ink pads come in a dry condition and they do not have reinkers on a lot of Archival colors. They are not cheap and I feel they are a waste of money. I have bought distress ink pad and Oxide and I have had to the same problem. I thought I had found some colors on Amazon, but they seller never had the color and Amazon cancelled my order.
I love Catherine Pooler inks too but dislike the case. It feels cheap to me and the ink itself deserves to live in a better home!
Where can I get a copy of your pros and cons on ink for easy reference please?
I have full set syndrome for Catherine Pooler inks.
Thanks so much Laurel!! Good video and I suffer from FSS LOL
LOL!!!! FSS.. Worse things to suffer from. :)
Great video and informative. What is the best black stamp pad for alcohol markers to color? Thank you
MementoTuxedo black hands down works the best with alcohol markers!
I’ve invested in the CP minis but I’m noticing I’m having to refill often bc I use them for ink blending and stenciling. So the larger pads do better for that technique? I’ve also noticed when I reink it, like you said, it takes time to set before I can use it for stamping otherwise I get some bleeding. Is it worth it to invest in full size? I have the refills… should I just keep refilling the minis?
Thanks for your video. Which brand black embossing powder did you use with WOW demo? Tx
Wow! But in all honesty, I rarely use BLACK embossing powder. I just stamp with a black pigment ink and sprinkle clear embossing powder over the top. SO much easier that way.
Great tips
I love the Cp inks but I do a lot of layering stamping and find it’s easier when a company puts a set together like Altenew or pinkfresh. I know you can layer some color groups of cp inks but they don’t always go together that well. Also they dry out very fast and I do not feel the color is the same after you use the Reinker, I’ve had this happen on two,of my cp pads...they are much darker now than the original color. I love her colors and how juicy the pads are.
CP released a color wheel which shows layering possibilities. You might find that helpful. That's interesting because I reink my CP pads all the time (they are foam so they will need reinking more often) and I haven't had a color change... So weird.....
Where did you get those great little side labels for the Catherine Pooler Inc. pads?
drive.google.com/file/d/1SlLo2VZnQYsH2bkIBNRLfPBY_MaTnOB6/view?usp=sharing I just printed on sticker paper or you can print and glue to the sides of the pads
Where did you get the side labels for the pooler ink? Did you cut them from the regular label they sell?
Thanks for info.
Always welcome
Great video. Do the Catherine Pooler inks come in smaller sizes, too? I love ink cubes.
Yes she does, but they are bigger than ink cube size.
How many colors are available?
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Thank you ! Question, what black ink does give you the blackest black but also lets you work with pencil crayons, markers, watercolour all in one pad please ? Sick of buying black inks for alcohol marker then black ink for watercolour then yet another black ink to actually be black !!! I must have nearly ever make it black ink & once the run out I just want one at a push two. HELP !
Update! Altenew has a refill now!👍🏻
I have almost a full set of Distress mini inkpads. And also collecting the reinkers which can be used as watercolour when diluted, or make sprays, too so I don't buy all those sprays on the market... a lot of potential there. Similar to oxides and their reinkers. Everything else according to my current needs. Just purchased a couple of alcohol resistant ink pads of different colours, so it isn't always black when colouring with alcohol markers. Distress inks aren't too good for precision stamping.
Thanks for the super informative video 😃 I am having a little difficulty stamping on the decorative side of playing cards ( I use them to display the earrings I sell ) they have a coating as you may know. Any tips? Thanks in advance
Its because its a slick surface. You'll have to use some permanent ink like archival ink from Ranger or somethingl
@@LaurelBeard thank you so much
Since I found distress oxides I buy pretty much nothing else except my arcivle black ink & my Unicorn white & I won't buy versa mark at all never works
I have the next stage
Of " full set syndrome"...i must have it all...with refills and dups evidently
My felt die ink pads with all the different companies don’t need to be inked very often like maybe once a year and I use them all the time
I do have to reink my pigment ink pads more often as they do dry out in about 6 months
Right, the document states that as a pro of the felt pad. And the con of the foam pad.
What does Dye ink pad mean.
It's called pure palette ink pad not sure if it helps but there you go.
How do the CP dye inks react with alcohol markers (copics)
They will smear, they aren't waterproof. Try Heat embossing then coloring or using an waterproof ink, such as Memento Tuxedo black.
Where did you get the bin for your refills? Thanks.
Either Ikea or Target. Super inexpensive....
I’m under the impression that the VersaFine nocturne is not as black a black as the VersaMark onyx black. I much prefer the form factor of the nocturne but I find the onyx black stamps a better sentiment so I deal with the irritating case. My opinion only!
I have been using Adirondack dye inks since I got started in paper crafting over 15 years ago. I have the whole range and refills. I've never considered getting rid of them. Some refills are running low, so I know those colors will need to be replaced by a different brand. Is there anything wrong with having older ink pads?
Absolutely nothing wrong! Those Adirondack pads last forever!
Thank you for the very informative video! I have some ink pads from several different companies. I have been buying blender brushes for each different line. Can I use the same brushes across brands, as long as they are the same type of ink?
Yes I use the same brushes cross ink pads all the time!
Thank you! Can you use inks from different lines together (other than the distress line), as long as they are the same type of ink?
Catherine Pouler BLACK ink is miserable!! It stains....it’s hard to work with. It was the one ink I bought the reinker for, and regret ever buying either!! 🤦🏼♀️
My black pad says "paint pad ™ pigment ink" with a squiggle on it. My mom gave it to me when i was like 13 (I'm 40 now) and I've never even refilled it. Use it all the time. Always have. Love it. I have hated every ink pad ever since then. Quit buying ink pads years ago until this last week. Happened on a good sample pack for 2 brands i hear talked about all the time. We'll see. I use markers usually. They work. Last forever for the most part. That's it. Period. I don't buy ink pads. Versamark is the exception for me. They last forever. I've bought a few of those. I like it with the clear powders. Use those with my markers for stamps and such
Great video! I also am a huge fan of CP inks, but don’t have all of them.... yet! 😃
I’m wondering, How do you label your CP inks?

What do you prefer: full sized or mini pads and why?
Full size? With mini, while they are great for storage and cheaper, I use lots of background stamps and floral stamps or just images with a bigger surface. Full size pads are easy to ink up those type stamps versus the mini....
Great video. I am finally convinced (and able to afford) purchasing the Catherine Pooler inks! Also thank you for the info on Wow embossing ink! I love that it stays wet longer. (Oh us craft nerds! It’s the little things that make us happy! ). Thanks for a very helpful and informative video.
You are so welcome! Glad it was helpful to you!
A disadvantage of foam ink pads is that they do deteriorate over time. I have 20-year-old felt pads that are still fine, but my older foam pads crumble. Pigment inks are usually on foam pads.
I haven't had that experience with any of my foam pads, BUT I haven't had any ink pad of any kind for 20 years.
These foam pads are quite a bit different from the foam pads of old. The CP pads are smooth. The old ones were porous and made from a different combination of materials. I do have some 10 year old Momento Luxe porous pads but they are still going strong also. I keep them inked.
Do you still love Catherine Pooler ink? Thank you.
Thanks! I am still new at stamping and haven't quite figured it out other than trial and error... I have a mix and still scratching my head...lol. Great info and going to check out CP inks...they look great! Looking forward to video on distress inks!👍😊
May I ask if the labels you use for your Catherine pooled inks are a template I can find somewhere?
view.flodesk.com/pages/5ff9a09d3faa817213dea155 (I printed onto sticker paper but you can print on regular paper and just glue them onto your ink pads)
I could not find the labels, just page layouts. Thanks for those, where can I find the labels? Please😉

@@LaurelBeard you are awesome! Thanks!
What is the best black ink to be able to stamp , is permanent and then watercolor paint over it and the ink won't run or smear?
The Nocturne ink mentioned in the video is waterproof and will not smear once dry. It's linked in the description for you as well! HTH! Love this ink
Archival Ink (jet black) is also good for stamping and inking over.
I haven’t had the most success with the Catherine pooler black ink. For water colour I love versafine and for copics memento or gina k amalgam.
