This video is about DIY Mini Ink Pads and they are so easy to make and very inexpensive, too! The best part?...You can take them with you because they're small, but hold as much ink as you put onto the foam pads!
If you don't need or want them, they make an excellent gift for your crafty friends who may not have certain colors.
Full links to the products I used are on my blog, so be sure to head there for the products I used.

What a clever solution, Kathya! I love the idea of mixing your own colors too. TFS!!!
Love your idea, I would put some fun foam in the lid to make your round foam stand out just a little more. Just get a circle die about the same size as your foam applicator.
That's a great idea! I found these to work pretty well, considering, but if they do start to deflate, so to speak, I will definitely go that route! Thanks for watching! 😍
The circle die may also be of value in trimming the label if anyone has issues with the overhang.
Oh. My. Gosh. I was literally shopping for mini ink pads for my travel pack and couldn't make up my mind. I was looking for an ink refresher recipe and found this video. WOW!!!! Thanks so very much for posting this!!!❤❤❤
You’re so very welcome! Glad it was helpful! 🥰
Love this!! For me this is a great money saver. I can make various custom colors rather than buying every shade of ink pad I want. Thanks for the idea and tutorial! Very creative and useful!
So glad you found it helpful!!! ♥️
Thank you for yet another brilliant idea, Kathya! And for explaining the process so clearly. You are a crafting treasure! 💙
You are so welcome! Glad it was helpful! 💞
This is the best idea I have seen in a long time. THANK YOU. Love the Christmas gift idea too.
Aw, thanks! I'm so glad you liked it! 😍
Love this idea
Thank you! 😊
Absolutely!!! What a great idea to start as reinkers are affordable.
Love the idea of creating your own color. These look great and would make excellent gifts especially for someone who's just starting out. TFS😊❤
Just saw you on RUclips for the first time this evening! Love your tips & tricks and great videos! I also watch Amy Wares and happy to hear you mentioned her🥰
Thanks much, and welcome! ♥️
What a fantastic idea! Thanks for sharing!
Very new to crafting and card making. Definitely a money saver. I've already ordered what I need. Thanks👏🏽👏🏽
You’re very welcome! ♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for working outside the box. Great techniques
What a great video, thank you! I fell in love with a shade of green that is no longer available. I've been searching for it ever since my ink pad dried out. I'm so excited to experiment with my ink bottles to recreate it. Great idea with the screw on lids too to keep things from drying out.
Dont forget to try ink refresher that comes in a spray bottle. You can easily revive your ink pads with the spray and reactivate your ink pads!
Soo cool!! Great idea & wonderful demonstrating just what to do! Thank u!!
Love this idea. Will certainly make some of these. Thanks for sharing.
This is such a cool idea! You can take this anywhere so easily. And the gifting idea is great!
Agreed! Crafting on the go! 😊
Brilliant! I can't wait to make my own. The reason I love "spots" is when using the stamparatus and Misty.
So impressed, I am thinking of doing this instead of buying regular ink pads! I am fairly new to stamping & currently only have a few, so this would be a way to more affordably expand my collection.
Wonderful! I hope this helps! 🥰
I like the idea of making these for friends. I have some friends that I have been considering giving card kits to with my older, discontinued stamps but they don’t have inks. These would be perfect as I have a lot of old reinkers. Thanks!
That's a great idea! Perfect gift for your crafty friends! 💞
You DO realize your friends will come to hate you as well as love you...Right? For YEARS I resisted the temptation of joining in with a dear friend’s addiction until finally at the beginning of 2018 I succumbed! Now I have a hoarder’s stash and NO craft room to “play” in, let alone store my goodies in!! 😩😫😭😢☹️🙁😕. In truth, your idea of “KITS” is SUPER!!! Ideally, whatever you share will most likely not take up much more space than, say, a book. Oooo...I can see a WHOLE NEW USE for unused dvd and/or vcr cases!!!
I have done this with re-inkers I had and empty ink-pads so I didn't have to buy the actual ink pads. After more then a year they are still juicy. 😊
I think to give these as Christmas gifts is a brilliant idea. 🥰
Also love the idea of making the custom colours. 👍🏼
Agreed! And they take up less space, too! 🥰
What a great idea. Too cute!
Thanks! 💕
I love this idea, and especially for using on the misty stamping tool, just as you said! Brilliant! It’s really expensive to build up a nice ink pad with refills inventory and this way I really only need to order reinkers of many new colors in the future! I am going on Amazon right now to order my supplies!
Excellent! You will love them. Thank you for watching! ♥️
Very clever Kathya!
Thanks, Kelly!!! ♥️
What a brilliant idea! Love the little ink pads that you made!
So glad you enjoyed! Happy Easter!🐣
Wonderful idea! I made these exactly the way Kathya demonstrated and I ran into a problem after about a month. The velcro came off the foam because of the moisture in the jars. If anyone has any ideas of how to solve this I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts! I have pealed off the velcro and I am looking for a glue that will stick in water so I can reattach the foam to the lids.
Kathya responded with a suggestion to try hot glue to reattach the foam to the lids! What a clever lady!!! It's working! Thank you so much Kathya! I appreciate you and your clever ideas!!!
I haven’t had any issues like that. You might just try hot gluing them. Have you tried that yet?
Thank you Kathya! It is working!!!
Love this. Just started paper crafting so I think a binge of your video’s and I will learn a lot. You explain everything so well and your ideas and cards are amazing. ❤🎉 x
Yay! I love hearing that my videos are helpful! Hugs and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything! 🥰

Awesome idea! Thank you so much for sharing!
You’re so welcome! ♥️
Brilliant! So many applications! So many possibilities! I also have all the oxides,i cant justify buying C.Pooler inkpads atm,im seriously considering buying the reinkers now.
I Thank You!
Cheers!
I think it's a great idea!! I think I will look into getting these.
This is absolutely fascinating!
Glad you enjoyed! ♥️
Great idea, thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching! 🥰
Wow that is really clever!
Awesome, awesome idea!
Glad you enjoyed! 🥰
Yes! Good idea because I was thinking of getting quite a few smaller pads for small stamps on my misty.
So glad you found it helpful! thanks for watching! ♥️
Such a cool idea xxx

This is a wonderful idea!

Mine, too!

Thank you, sweet friend! 🥰
Nice idea 💡 and it is easy way to travel with them.
Yes they are! So glad you enjoyed!
I love this so much. I will use them a lot thank you
You're welcome 😊
Quite creative Kathya!!! Love it. 😁😁🎨
Thank you, Ingrid! 😘
Awesome! Thanks so much!
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed! 🥰
Clever way of doing small stamp pads. And mixing inks
Wish I had that many inks. Some day I hope.
I’ve been doing some research and learning that inkjet printer is a dye-based ink. It’s far less expensive to buy those bottles and then mix them to make endless colors. I have some at home and might share some experimenting on an upcoming episode. Stay tuned! 😍
This is amazing!!! Thanks for your wonderful card making hacks!
You’re very welcome! I’m currently editing another video, so stay tuned! Thanks for watching! ♥️
@@KathyaKalinine I have subscribed and I’m excited to see what cool idea and card you have coming! 👏🏻

Great video. Awesome idea

Well done well done so nice and so clever I love it.....
Thanks so much! ♥️
That's so awesome I just got a Tim holtz platform and I make such a mess trying to use those stampin up pads fantastic video. Thank you for sharing 😊
So glad it helped! ♥️
This is a great idea I’d love to try this one day as a party favor for a crafty meet up 💕💕💕💕
Several folks have mentioned they might try that! Glad you found it helpful! ♥️
Awesome really good 💓💓💓💓💓💓
Genius! I need to find a crafty friend that doesn’t have the same inks I do! I need those CP inks for sure!
You’ll love it! Super handy and I just used them on a card and the sponges did not dry out! Have fun and thanks for watching!
Love it
Thank you for the inspiration! I will definitely be making my own mini-pads!
So glad it was helpful! ♥️
@@KathyaKalinine just ordered the jars and sponges
Karen, what jars did you order?

Brilliant!
Thank you! ♥️
I am absolutely going to do this! Thank you for the brilliant idea and solution. I found you while I was searching for this idea, I am now a subscriber xoxoxo
Thanks Amber! I work full time so I don’t get the chance to post every week. A new video is coming soon! 🥰
@@KathyaKalinine I work full-time as well and WOW I give you TONS of credit for all that you do!!! That is a great deal to juggle. I did order, thanks for including the links, that is a big help. I am horrible with measurements especially when it is not inches.
Great idea, Kathya! I don’t typically buy trinkets since I haven’t needed to reink my large felt pads yet, but if I had them I’d likely make some custom colors.
Awesome, Amber! These are the perfect size. The custom color option for me was ideal. Hugs, you Zentangle Queen!!! 🥰
When I had the opportunity I sprung for Distress Re-Inkers instead of pads, as, after watching so many y.t. vids on D.I. techniques, THAT seemed the way to go.
Such a cute idea tfs 🤗🤗🤗
You are so welcome 💞
You are very creative.
Thank you! Cheers! 🥰
That is super cool!
Thanks, my friend! 😍💞
Ardyth, your reply to Kathya on your Get MORE from your INKS video led me here, thanks to both of you!
This is such a great idea, I can't wait to try it. I'm also excited about storing custom colors and not creating a pad until I need to use a specific color. I see this works great for a flat full-color stamp, I'm wondering how it works inking up a stamp with outlines since the sponge is a dome shape and not flat like a regular ink pad. Will the color get into the crevices it's not supposed to? Thanks so much for sharing.
Hi Abigail! The domes are not super soft, so that helps. I haven’t used them on very large stamps-just smaller areas without big dips in the stamp, so to speak. I haven’t used these mini custom ink pads in about 3 months but I just opened some a couple weeks ago and they’re still juicy. I suppose it just depends on how much you saturate the little domes. I’m glad you’re inspired! Keep me posted if you make some! ♥️
Great idea very smart thank you
You’re so welcome!
@Ingridblackburn I truly love this idea! I was AMAZED when you mixed black/grey with the yellow to make olive green. Do you at all have a list of these magical paint combinations please? I would buy a list from you. Many thanks Sarah x
I don’t have a list, unfortunately, but I’ve studied art all my life and love color. I’ll see if I can find something fir you. ♥️
Fun! & saves money.
It sure does!!! I recorded this video a while ago and decided to pull these out. Surprisingly, they didn’t dry out! 🙂
What a great way to create a collection of inkpads that are easy to store! I live in the southwest USA which is hot and DRY. I now only buy inkpads that offer reinkers. I am also limited in space to store them. You can buy a few reinkers from various brands and make these mini pads to decide what, or if, you want to commit further. I have put the jars in my Amazon list because this solution is better than the DIY I tried before. Thanks for a great idea!
You’re very welcome! I have learned over time, too, that when your ink pad dies up, the ink remains but the ‘fluid’-the carrier of the ink-evaporates. So, I started buying ink refresher. Instead of re-inkers. I haven’t tried the re-inker refresher on my CP inks yet, but I plan to try it because the properties are similar to distress inks. Thanks for watching! ♥️
@@KathyaKalinine for my first 10 years of card making all of my ink pads were secondhand fines at garage sales etc, and I kept them going with the DIY ink pad refresher! The frugal Crafter impressed me early on with her money saving ideas and she had the refresher recipe of distilled water, glycerin, and a little alcohol. It worked great but I really use those ink pads up and as my arthritis got worse they were difficult to use because they were rangers felt pads. I ended up buying the entire set of Concord and 9th cubes and a set of reinkers for them. I built my own ink pad storage with phone core board and made little drawers for that set of inks and I can put four cubes in the space of one full size ink pad. It was a must do because I only have so much space in my craft room. It's already tight in there. Where there's a will there's a way.
Love it! I craft in a small space, too. At my age, I’m starting to notice wrist issues, too. I like your foam core storage system. I love to DIY! I’m in the process (hopefully this weekend) of recording a diy ink pad storage that’s actual video instead of pictures. I had great success with the one I made that I have requests to show how I build it. Stay tuned!♥️
Very clever
Thank you! ♥️
I have been searching for blank ink pads for months now with no luck. I have oodles of reinkers and needed a pad solution. Your idea is brilliant and solves my problem. I am off to look on Amazon in Canada to see if I can find the little jars. Thank you so much for sharing. I really am thrilled!
I hope you’re able to find them!!! Let me know if I can help. If Amazon doesn’t have them, try Etsy?…
@@KathyaKalinine thank you so much. Amazon Canada has the exact jars but the domed foam pieces are back ordered everywhere that I've checked. I'll keep searching. I'm halfway there.
Thanks again.
What a great idea. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I know what you mean about all the beautiful ink shelves that you see in videos. I watched my first video of your idea on coloring die cuts. I signed up so I don't miss any of your videos.
Awesome! I’m currently planning another video that I will post this weekend. Thanks for subscribing! ♥️
Great idea, especially if one already has the reinkers and desires custom colors, but I would have liked to see you use these on an actual stamping project, and also give an approximate total cost per pad in comparison to some of the mini ink pads already on the market.
I hear you. I didn’t even think of the cost comparison. I was coming from a standpoint of being able to take all these mini ink pads on the go instead of large bulky ink pads. I know they’re less expensive due to the mini jars being very cost savings and reinkers being less expensive than an ink pad. I suppose it might be easy to calculate the cost, depending on what ink pad brands are your favorite. I will use them in an upcoming video. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!
OK who wants to make me a set of inks??? 😂 This is brilliant!!
Lol! 😂🥰 Glad it made you giggle! 😉
What a great idea! I have no art background so black and yellow making olive was very cool to see! Lol!
I’m so glad this helped! I have studied art all my life. I have a passion for art in all forms and color is so beautiful. Thank you so much for watching! ♥️
So awesome! I would do cartwheels if I didn't have chronic back pain. I am a hobby demonstrator with Stampin Up and wanted mini cubes to use with my stsmp positioner. . . Thank you so much!
You’re so welcome!!!
Genius!
Thanks, Linda! ♥️
Great video!!!!
Thanks!!! So glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
I work overnights and I am able to craft at work sometimes. Taking my ink pad to work is no convenient but these would be perfect.
Awesome! I love how portable they are! 🥰
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, you are a genius
Awwww! ♥️♥️♥️ I just love to share! Glad you enjoyed it! 😘
What a handy idea. I would think that your mini-ink rounds could be used for other liquids, like shimmer sprays or even glue or embossing medium. Thank you ☺
Agreed! That’s a wonderful idea! Thanks for watching and the lovely comment! ♥️
What's great idea ! I only just found your channel today , a new subscriber:)
Wonderful! Welcome, Yve! Thank you for subscribing and watching! ♥️
Great!
Thanks, Anja! 🥰
This is a great idea. Does the applicator sponge come out far enough to ink a large stamp, larger than the cap?
It sure does! 🥰
What an AHHHMAZING idea. I can't afford ink pads, so I buy reinkers. I would buy blank cubes or the 2x3 pads with sponge pads. This is better though as the foam is more sturdy. I will be ordering some of these today for my new inks.
Fantastic. I just realized I did not include the link to the jars, so I responded to your other comment with a link. Enjoy! ♥️
Love this idea...the ink should stay juicy longer since the storage container is a screw top. It's much cheaper to buy just the ink refill bottle than both the stamp pad AND the refill bottle. Thanks!
Agreed! Glad you found it helpful! 🤗
I would do it in a minute I think that they are so handy you can take such a wide range of colors with you go to crop go to a show you’re in the car and you don’t have a lot of room you’re in a sports game well maybe not right now waiting for your kids it just opens up a whole world of things that you can do and I’ve never seen them done on the sponge of you always use the linen so I’m pretty excited about this I’d like to give this a try as well as my linen cubes so thanks for the heads up and the display showing us how to do it awesome and where you got the stuff really well done thank you
Yes, exactly! I love how portable they are. If I knew a crafter/stamper close to me, I would certainly trade some inks. I may just buy re-inkers and have the colors I want and just go this route. We will see. I'm glad this was helpful! 💞
Brilliant! Can you use them for ink blending?
Thanks, Autumn! Not sure. I haven’t tried yet but might be a good idea to test on scrap paper instead of a project. I hate when I ruin my work by not texting on scrap paper first.
Love this idea for my Stampin Up inks as I feel some of my ink pads dry out. Can I ask since this video was two years ago.....how are they holding up? Do you still like them? Do they stay wet or did they dry out? Are they easy to hold or do you find you get ink on your fingers? Thanks so much!
Hi! I haven’t used them in a good while, but like any ink pads I have, I’m sure they’re dry by now. But all that means is the water evaporated from the container. It happens to all my ink pads over time. I always keep ink pad refreshers on hand, because the ink (pigment/color) is still there, but it just needs to be rehydrated. I have found that mixing a few drops of glycerine with water and applied to the ink pad does the trick. You just want to move that ink around to get it thoroughly saturated. I hope that helps! ♥️ I would say they are relatively easy to hold. I initially made them so I could take all my inks in smaller scale form when we go on family vacations. Great way to bring favorites when traveling. 😊
Thank you for this video and excellent idea. I have made some of these but the ink on the foam is too “juicy” and the inked image feathers out and balloons so the script isn’t legible. Any ideas or thoughts about what I may have done wrong?
You may have just used too much ink on the little pads. You could make some colored card stock by removing some of the excess ink and die cut shapes from them. Also, I’m not sure these little ink pads are best suited for small sentiments, but what you could try is stamp on a scrap piece of paper and then stamp on your project. I hope this helps! ♥️
new subbie here, and i really am enjoying your creativity. more power
Thank you and welcome! ♥️
