7:13 😢 YOUR MOM IS RIGHT!!!
I looked at my mom in her casket I was 7 and she was 32.
I kept wondering why did they make her so pretty now?
She was in a ball gown and makeup...but dead. The only time Id ever seen her that dressed up was when she pinched pennies to take me and my cousin to see the Nutcracker Ballet. The second was when she laid lifeless.
That left an imprint on me forever.
I dress up now. I spend now. I live now.
You don't know how much time you get...

Your story broke my heart.😔 I’m sorry. Unlike your mom, my mother loved to dress up, especially for church. She lived to be 85 years old and had a good life after her mid 20’s. She told me that living is not a dress rehearsal. This is the only life you get. So, enjoy each day the best that you can, doing the things that YOU want to do or don’t mind doing. Be careful not to be guilted, manipulated, or bullied into doing things for others that you really don’t want to do. I wish for you the best life that you can have.

On a gap year break now. My mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health was more shattered than a bag of chips at the bottom of a grocery bag. I was constantly pouring from an empty bucket at a very high level for years and years and did it for so long I thought it was normal 😢 Now Therapy, sleeping, taking walks, therapy, prayer, prayer, and more prayer. All the R’s - recovering, reconnecting, refreshing, reevaluating , retail therapy, restoring, restarting, reimagining my life, rebuilding me, restaurant- ing, relaxing, reducing stress, reshaping , relearning and releasing all that does not serve me or contribute to my rebirth . Long road to go but being on Sabbatical is the only way I could start healing

I am with you sister. From childhood, I always wanted to travel and write. Never could do it early in my life because as a divorced woman I raised my daughter alone with no extra help. (You know how that goes). I am now 82 years old and went with my then spouse in 2022 to Tanzania. Truthfully, I did not enjoy myself on that trip, so after a breakup, 10 months later, I treated myself to Tanzania and Zanzibar and went alone. Sister, I had a wonderful time. I met locals during my first trip and met with them again in 2023 . I had used a travel agent who made my trip very easy. Every day, I think of my wonderful trip. You are correct that our sisters MUST live their lives

I buried my mom a few years ago at 80, and it was like a light bulb for me. I kept hearing "this is not living." So, I took a chance and left the only home I knew. Unfortunately, I left during a universal upheaval which resulted in me and my daughter living in our car (homelessness).
While its been a trying journey of survival I still strive to live. I just recorded yesterday and said "I want to write my lifes tale not its ending".
Thank you for sharing this reminder to keep going ❤

She planned her will, etc. & and told me Don't waste any money, insurance money or whatever on her funeral. Save your money. Cremation was her request. We had memorial celebration. Interesting topic. I've also been traveling a lot (international & domestic) since I retired 6 years ago.
My Dad use to say: when it's my time, "Don't put all that money in the ground". So, we buried him in a modest casket and free burial in the military cemetery (as part of his benefits as a veteran). I've updated his wishes for me: 1) modest casket/service 2) buried in the military cemetery (I'm a vet too) and 3) most important: give as much of my children's inheritance to them NOW before I die. Thanks Stephanie for this topic!

So true! When my dad passed away, it made me think about my dash. When we look at an obituary we see a birthdate and an end date, but what about the dash? We need to make sure that our dash (our life) is meaningful.
I literally just got back from the Hawaii (the Big Island) with my mom (it was her Mother's Day gift). This was one of the best trips we've ever taken. It reminded me how important it is to invest in yourself and practice self-care.

My friend who invited me on both trips, died of Cancer in 2022, gone way too soon. I did not know he was ill. He always encouraged me to live and enjoy life. This video is right on time, Stephanie. I arrived at work this morning and signed into my computer. Before I could get settled in…i was given the news that one of my coworkers passed away last night. She (and her husband) had been with the company since the 80’s. She was well loved and one of the sweetest people you could know.
I remember when we were having a team meeting…she stated that she was looking forward to retirement. She had grandchildren that she adored. So I know she was looking forward to spending more time with them.
We do not know when our time to leave this earth is going to come. Don’t wait until retirement if you don’t absolutely have to. There is a way to take that sabbatical, move abroad, or become a digital nomad. Stephanie is not just blowing hot air…she did it and we can do it too. You will learn so much about your self. We have the opportunity to create a whole new life if we want to.
Don’t wait to have that something nice when you can’t even experience it. ♥️

Why wait for retirement ? That’s such a conditional and programmed time frame, especially in North America,USA. Dreams, aspirations, something maybe not in the norm of the culture or norms of your people closest to you or the mentality of custom of a life lived in repetitiveness. Do trips or goals of a lifetime now,in increments, small, large or in between, otherwise you’re perpetuating norms with constraints

She did the best she could but always lived a small life check to check and in the merciful hand of God. I tried to make her understand that I knew she felt bad never making enough money to provide everything she wanted for me but with a life insurance policy she could provide those big things once she was gone. Please have these conversations with your parents & siblings now, before it’s too late.

This is such confirmation for me. I wanted 2024 to be a year of sabbatical as a result of receiving an award to teach English 20 hours a week for five months in Spain. And I wanted to work "softly" the remainder of the year. Things don't seem to be moving in that direction, but I have spent the entire 2024, so far, traveling all across Europe. I told my kids that if I could spend most of my life broke in order to take care of them, I can go broke to do nice things for myself during my empty nester years. And yet God always seems to make sure that I can do and buy most, if not all, of what I want to do and buy on my trips. Although I don't like big ticket items like cars and homes, I love jewelry, scents, bags, and collectables to create scrapbooks with; and I never fail to return from a trip with most or all of my loves.
As I shift to probable fulltime work back in the U.S., my focus is on what opportunities will allow me to live the soft and slow life I desire. Thanks for this. I'm so glad I came across your channel.

I believe God teaches us a lesson over again until we learn. I got really sick at 30 years old and was battling illness for multiple years. Only to jump back into a really toxic work environment at 33 and said "oh hell no!" I didn't go through all of that struggle knowing how precious life is to literally have a job kill me. SO I'm now in my finding out how to "live the life I want to live" stage. It's a process but I know it will be worth it. Bravo to the women who have realized before its too late to live life to the fullest!

Thank you! You’re really making me think.. Earlier this year I had knee replacement surgery and I was off from work for 10 weeks and everyone was worried about me but I enjoyed being off. Why? Because it felt like a sabbatical. It may sound pitiful, but I enjoyed being off. I am “the” caretaker in my family. Took care of my Dad till he passed in 2019. Right after that my husband was diagnosed with brain cancer and I took care of him until August 2022. Then several months later my Mom fell and fractured her pelvis and I moved and took care of her. I didn’t move back into my house until I had my surgery. I finally exhaled. Blessings

This is what i needed to hear. As someone who cares for people who are dying (home health), this really hits home and puts things in perspective. Thank you for sharing your story, and your mother's wisdom. I will take this advice 💖

Thank you for your inspirational message. There are many of us who are ‘ old souls and have given a lifetime of service to others. It is difficult to focus on ourselves. I totally agree that we ‘ including me, should be brave enough to step out and shower ourselves with beautiful and nice things, adventures and such. Again, thank you for always advocating for us as women to always seek out the very best for ourselves 🥰
