I Had Bad Feelings Doing What I Was Told To Do So I Tried To Bury The Feelings And Lie To Myself

- This is a story about how I bought into the narrative of success but found emptiness and sadness instead. Not understanding the bad feelings, I tried to hide them. But they kept coming back. Here, I share how I am learning to be friends with the bad feelings in addition to the good ones so that I don't have to lie to myself anymore.
The Hawaiian prayer Ho'oponopono is powerful for acknowledging that a wrongdoing has happened, asking for forgiveness, thanking, and loving. It can be directed towards other people, your emotions and feelings, to the universe, and to yourself. It is about restoring balance.
I'm sorry
Please forgive me
Thank you

I've been a lawyer for nearly 40 years. But law was not my first passion. I'm a creative person, and law stifles creativity. I still practice law a little, but I've become dedicated to personal projects that encourage my creativity. I've written a novel about my dogs and me, and I'm now authoring a colouring book for children (which features a dog). I was 70 years old when I made the switch. I wish I had made it when I was 38 years old. Well done, sir.
Thank you for sharing. ❤

@claudefilion7055 well done to you too 😊
That’s amazing. I’m 26 and everyone tells me to make money, I feel like I’m not respected if I don’t have money but I’ve found respect from the right people after I ended up homeless without a single dollar to my name. I wanted to be a rapper and get a record deal to be able to provide for my family but since I’ve been living off the land spending more time in nature I see other ways of making sure my family is taken care of like farming bees but I’m also working on childrens books, I wrote the first one from a real life experience I had with a bee but I need to get it illustrated somehow. I want to keep working on children’s books because I feel like the world today is missing good children’s books when I grew up with so many deep thought provoking meaningful children’s books that I still remember to this day and I want to give the next generation the same feeling and love for books that I had growing up. Id be super grateful if you could share any knowledge or tips on writing/how to publish a book

I was a professional living in the city in an expensive home and I sold it. Moved to a country area, got a low paying low stress job, and live in a small broken down house that my brother told me was not worth fixing. As a Cardiologist here in NY...I want to tell you that through your life you will always have doubts about much in life. I started my Med career being a RN in the US Army. I eventually went into a Spec Forces Unit ...then the Iraq war broke out. I was exposed to really crazy situation's and horrific things. But then my Uncle ..whom was a surgeon said, I should try to go to Med School. Long story, I hired a tutor for a year and help from my Uncle I went to Medical school in Milan Italy. Today I'm a cardiologist. Now it sounds really cool...but in my personal life, I'm divorced 2x. My family has all passed away and most of my friends I have lost contact with ..so when I'm not working, I am alone. Some of it by choice.......I am getting close to retiring now and I am excited about moving to a new place and starting life over once again if the good Lord gives me the time and the health to. So looking back to my life for you...Life hopefully for you will be long and dont be surprised if you wake up one day and some crazy idea pops in your head and you go off to follow that dream....and what if you fail? Its all OK.... its life and everyday is a blessing.

Unless you take medication for schizophrenia or something similar, then definitely take your meds and then go for a run.
there's so many young ones on drugs for anxiety and depression. I know depression meds are needed but I feel like this is used way overboard lately. what happened to toughen up and work it out? instead here's a pill - sad
idk, I'm gonna push back a little here.
I struggled a lot while finishing up my PhD, and I am still grappling with many of the issues touched on in this video. I've found meds don't so much dampen my emotions as much as they allow me process them more effectively. Of course, meds are just part of a larger strategy. Exercising, eating well, mindfulness, avoiding big tech's algorithms, getting outside, and surrounding myself with friends and loved ones are essential elements.
That being said, I do agree with the sentiment. Obviously the big pharma C-suite is not acting in our best interests, and unfortunately many aspects of the medical establishment, especially in the US, seem to be more broken then ever. SSRIs in particular, although pretty safe, are poorly understood. Evidence for their effectiveness is surprisingly weak, and their efficacy seems to depend strongly on genetics (and presumably a billion other factors). I was fortunate, as I was able to take a break after school. Trying the meds was low risk, and I always understood that I could come off them if I didn't like the side-effects. They helped me to dig myself out a rut, and their influence was very subtle. I'm happy I tried them out, but also look forward to getting off them soon :)
And if you're reading this, Dr. Goobie: These videos have really resonated with me. I recently finished up at MIT, and I wonder how many of our fellow alums go through similar crises sometime in their lives. We give so much of ourselves to fit into some definition of success that it's easy to lose sight of both what /we/ want and what's actually important to us. Stay strong, and stay curious!

The contemporary philosopher Martha Nussbaum wrote a substantial book called Upheavals of Thought that proposed that emotions are actually a form of intelligence--our subconscious brain communicating with us. If we learn to listen to our emotions, good and bad, and learn how to act on them in ways that are healthy rather than counterproductive or harmful, we tap into more potential and fulfillment as human beings. Men are sometimes deprived of this well of self-knowledge because societally they aren't generally encouraged or taught to be "in touch" with their emotions. But man or woman, understanding and living with our own emotions can be a struggle, albeit a worthwhile one. Happy journeying, Goobie! We're all on this path together.
As a 45-year-old woman, I quit my job as an engineer four months ago because I felt like I was dying inside. The pay was decent, but I just didn’t like it. There were many reasons why I didn’t like it, and now I’m uncertain about my next steps. I completely understand what you’ve been feeling. I wish you all the best.

You're decompressing from a lifetime of very hard work. Don't try to figure it all out at once. Deal with it bit by bit. You will find your way. I can't stress enough that you should appreciate your considerable contributions to helping many patients. You should be proud of that.
@myobee9875 Thank you for your comment. It really spoke to me and has helped me make a decision about my life I’ve been putting off.
That’s very true
People tell us that quitting is running away from our problems. I see it as running towards our next life.
People marvel at white collar jobs but don’t realize how draining and unfulfilling it can be. I do believe in sacrifice and hard work but to what end? At the end of the day only your loved ones will remember that you worked overtime. Took 2 years at my last job as software engineer to realize that. We cannot take none of this with us when we are gone. And our peace should never be compromised
I resonate with your journey
My late Dad was in corporate for most his working life. Earned good money, had the ability to go on some brilliant holidays and actually provided me and my Mum with lots of financial security. Some significant benefits.
However... it was a very tough time for him climbing the corporate ladder. He even considering quitting his job as a project manager a few times.
It actually took him until 2011 to actually feel like he 'made it' in his work. He was wired in a way to succeed no matter what which was good in some ways.
Last year in hospital he said that looking back on his career, "how many people will actually remember what he'd achieved at work when he's no longer here?". It's good to earn a living and have a career, but it's not just about chasing the reward. Money will always be out there if your canny enough . Your time will not.

Hello 👋 Toronto love ❤️ that town!
Emerson described best what success is.
“ What is success?
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch Or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded”!

As a doctor of 30 years, I feel that the motivation to practice medicine should strictly be as a social service. Otherwise it is easy to tire out early. Unfortunately, these capitalist governments, owned by, or run by, corporates have commercialised medicine, and even learning medicine and healthcare, are expensive in these countries. Those planning to take up careers as doctors, should ideally be from the most under privileged, for whom medicine is an opportunity to live a comfortable, life earning average national income, and not dream of minting money, like most disheartened doctors who quit medicine, do

Nah your trippin bro I rather have a dismissive surgeon that fixes my problem a million times rather than a happy puppy that leaves me as before or worse
@@TM-et7wi That's probably not the reality of many surgeries. My grandmother's life was shortened because they wanted the insurance money & so she had an unnecessary operation that killed her but she put doctors on a pedestal. She was 89 & they took veins from her arms & stuck them in her legs & of course that didnt take so they replaced them with plastic veins! Of course that didn't work either resulting in insufferable pain & an agonising death. So sometimes it's a 'hellish' outcome & I've heard of other immoral surgical cases as well.
The only drum you need to worry about is the one your marching too. It's that simple.
Well said!
Dr. Goobie, with all due respect, I listened to 40 minutes of your video. I am not sure why you are trying to play God. You are not going to solve their stressful life, their sleep problems, their relationship problems, their food habits. If someone can not fix the leak roof, they still as a best possible second option, would like to replace their dry walls, carpets and remove mold. Seems to be you are only being selfish. There are not many people who can do the things you can do. You are blessed with it. Some people will kill to have the talent you have. Your professor was right when he said you are there to help people. Not only through surgery but through your encouragement and by merely listening to their words. That position as a surgeon enables you to do this. When you are in the mountains, you won't be able to help anyone. Dr. Goobie I hope you think about what I said.

Thanks for sharing the Sedona method 🙏 I had not heard of it. I’m just beginning to learn about these things
I can't explain it in words but your videos bring me so much peace. I started this realization when I was 26. I quit my consultant job after 2 years of working, decided to retreat to a village and help my parents operate their restaurant business while I figured out my own life, tried starting my business online with almost nothing left in the bank. From 26-30, it was a rough ride of figuring out what I wanted and had to constantly deal with depression, fear, anxiety and negativity. No one had much encouragement to say. I threw away a great career for uncertainty. Long story short, I'm turning 32 this year. While business may still be uncertain and I'm definitely not 'there' yet, I've worked so much on inner healing and my mental health, and I have so much peace now. Like, I've finally truly understand what it means to be alive, what it means to be present, to enjoy nature, food on the table, the clean hot running water. These days I catch myself smiling as I'm driving home to see my parents. Everything that used to matter so much to the point of anxiety and depression are no longer that important. Its being alive, enjoying being alive, being grateful, being with people you love, having a healthy mind, eating right, building muscles in the gym (I had chronic pain my whole life + 2 slipped discs). If I did this, anybody can. Thank you God.
Was in retail for 34 years, and promised great rewards and secure retirement until everything went to hell. Now realize all the years of stress and anxiety were wasted. Live and learn!
I cried watching your video. I was on top of my class and voted to be the most successful but the path that is likely to get me through the expected result isn't something that i truly enjoyed. I nevertheless went through that route and i have been the worst for it. I spent some time looking at some of your videos and wished i could magically propelled myself into some of them. Good luck to you cham! You are now so many people's hero. May the light of God protect you wherever you may be in your amazing journey. We love you.

You are so likeable and obviously very compassionate, Doctor. I think that is a big part of why people are interested and care about you.
I was a mortgage underwriter for 30 years. I knew it, and the 12 hour work days were killing me. I was very unhappy. One day in 2022 while sitting at my desk, I decided I'd had enough of my current life. I was miserable. I'dbeendivorcedfor years, I'd raised 2 sons on my own, I only saw my friends every couple of months, I bought my current house in 2011 but only talked to 2 neighboros every once in a while. So, I decided to sell my house and everything in it and leave my 30 year career. I bought an RV. I decided this the end of June and by November me & my 2 little mini poodles were on the road. I'm supporting myself by work camping (huge career change 😂) I have had very similar feelings and emotions as you describe. My family thought I'd lost my mind. However, I can honestly say that even with all the ups & downs, I have no regrets. I've had so many adventures and have met so many new people. If I don't like my neighbors, no problem, my home is on wheels. I don't know how long I'll continue this lifestyle, but I know I'm emotionally healing daily. I sincerely understand you.
So cool! Blessings always ❤
