Because I've been living with chronic pain for over 6 years while the previous 20 I atleast got small breaks from them. " I live in pain. Pain that on good days is merely intolerable and on bad ones will suck the life-force right out of you." The pain meds I'm on barley puts a dent on the good days so u can imagine what a bad day is like. I've been rushed to hospital several times because the pain wasn't manageable several times. @@lisadc4681 it’s a British thing. They are super polite. To the point of inauthentic. They will never tell you what they’re really thinking about you because that is deemed impolite.
Religion and guns would be the biggest difference between the US and Britain. Even the police in Britain do not carry guns. Also the portion sizes of food, no country sells food in the portion sizes they serve in the US.
***** I think America would be a dangerous country to live in without the guns, although marginally less. The real danger is in this American (sub-?) -culture that favours nationalistic, male power-fantasy thinking. Honestly, if these guns'r'all people would stop behaving like they grew up solely on '80's action movies, it would be so much less of a problem. You would never hear a Swiss person talk like that. They are, by and large, peace-loving, sensible and meek
sarcastic bowl of cornflakes Ah, see: I knew that about Switzerland and assumed it would be the same in the US. So the restrictions so many Americans are against are maybe just "restrictions" as in, people will still be able to buy weapons, but the gun licence will require the owner to be sane and trained?
Herfinnur Árnafjall put the stereotypic thinking on the shelf. The majority of gun violence is related to inner city crime, specifically drug-territory crime. Most gun owners are sensible people, not least due to having a weapon teaches responsibility. Oh, and women own guns too. Guess they must have bought into the male power fantasy too.
sarcastic bowl of cornflakes "Owning a gun no more teaches responsibility than owning a car does" There a nugget of truth in that claim and a large bucket full of ignoring human motivation. Dangerous tool + idiotic operator = dead operator or an operator that is very quickly thrown in the stockade for manslaughter. People are stupid, but most tend to learn from the mistake of others if the results of the others stupidity is severe enough. "People are irresponsible with both all the damned time." Some are, yes. How many motor vehicles are owned in the US? 75 million? 100 million? How many are operated daily of these many millions? How many are used in a way that is either grossly negligent or outright criminal, resulting in grievous bodily harm? 1ppm? 10ppm? ".Except at least in the case of cars they serve purposes other than simply being dangerous." This shows that you have a deeply simplistic understandiing of what a firearm is. You are wholly ignoring that a gun, despite being a wespon, is also a *tool* used by people for self-defense. Using the same flawed understanding on cars would have you claim that cars are solely tool used for vehicular manslaughter because you choose to only look ath its negative uses and consequences.
"The person considering attacking will always have the element of surprise. So they can always get their gun out" The far majority or crimes and would-be crimes that a handgun helps protect against are home burglaries and rapes, both of in the absoklute majority of cases are perpetrated without a handgun. "If I'm a criminal, and I want to commit a violent crime, I'll want to defend myself from potential victims, so there is a 100% chance that I'll make sure I'm better armed than any of the people I'm planning on choosing as victims." That argument has been tried *many* times, and it looks nice on paper, but betrays that you simply are not familiar with the crime occurrences and the collected statistics in the field. You can easily look up the stats en masse on the subject of hand gun defense and how crimes are pepetrated. Your entire stance betrays that you have never done so in your life and are solely relying to ideas that others have foisted on you. I could say something about being idiotic in the same league as you did to me, but I'll make you mood less unpleasant and tell you that ignorance is generally not a permanent affliction, and that you have plenty of room to grow and enlighten yourself.

Quran (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help." Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them" This is what your holy book teaches. How is this not violent or intolerant? Have you even READ your shitty holy-book? Maybe you should read something, because you obviously haven't read the book which you blindly put all your faith in.
JOSH FORD There are extremists in every religion. There are extremists WITHOUT religion. Across international lines, guess what? There are extremists. Still sad AF about Larry saying to Anthony Hopkins, 2 weeks before Larry died of Covid, that Larry said he was just too curious to succumb. Oh F me. Oh Larry. Sweet guy. F.
I didn't know UK was much more private about their beliefs than US. Then again, everybody here runs their mouth about everything, so maybe it's not that surprising.
We've reached a stage in Britain where a politician's religion or lack there of is of no interest to voters. It would be political suicide for politicians to say they make their decisions about legislation based on their religious beliefs. There's great religious freedom in Britain, but we demand that laws are passed based on secular & humanitarian morality. BTW I've been referring to Britain not the UK. Britain consists of England, Scotland & Wales. The UK consists of Britain & Northern Ireland. In Northern Ireland a politician's religion is important, but the sectarian conflict is not a religious war, it's a tribal one. I'm a keen observer of US politics, it astounds me that creationists get elected to high office.
St. Rawman That's true, & it reflects the fact that Britain is not as religious as the US. But many US politicians are not as religious as they claim to be. Statistically there must be many closet agnostics, & maybe even a few atheists. :-) Though what the difference is just a matter of semantics. My point is that here in Britain politicians can declare themselves to be devout Christians or gnostic atheists, & we think, interesting? Now what the hell do you propose to do about the solving our problems?
I just hope it doesn't take the US as long as it took the UK to reach that point. Otherwise the world is in for a long wait for us to catch up. What is sad is the US started out as one of the most secular countries in the world at the time of our birth, and in fact only in the last 100 - 120 years or so has that secularism all but disappeared.

About Hugh's family.. His comedic background.. His collaboration with Fry.. Were just that - silly.. At least read his Wikipedia page.. Trust me you will be impressed.. Hugh went to the best schools/universities, was a leading athlete, President of the Cambridge Footlights, a great double act with Stephen Fry, a Novelist.. All this before he did even one episode of House...
+Derek Johnson Idk what your nationality is (I'm American btw) but technically I think all accents in Great Britain could be considered "British" accents. Including English, Scottish, etc... But specifically, yes, he has an English accent.
In a way I sort of wished they didn't filter out the accent on shows ([H]ouse) in particular because you go to watch the interview with the actor and they sound almost different than that on the show. I know it's mandatory with a American/ North American audience because the actors with accents tend to say words which we can't make out. So they filter out the accent and make Hugh sound more American.
The Product Reviewer Well it isn't really "filtering out" in this particular case. Fact is that Hugh did an audition tape for this show, and he put on an american accent for it, he played a character. It was that exact character and way of speaking that the producers of the show fell in love with and wanted to have as their "Hosue" - without even knowing that he was actually British.^^ So Hugh kind of created this situation himself and also the character of House is simply that of an American Doctor, working in America, having grown up and studied in America with American parents and all that - but they also wanted Hugh Laurie so he was putting an American Accent on for this show. It's just acting in this case. I'm not saying the "filtering out" stuff doesn't happen (because it definitely does, you're absolutely right!), I'm just saying that House isn't a good example for that. It's just a character/acting choice for House to be American instead of British. A better example would be the Show "Merlin" where the main character had to sort of smooth out his natural Irish Accent; or Doctor Who where David Tennant wasn't allowed to speak with his natural scottish Accent (but Peter Capaldi is^^).
@@singenstattatmen5096 he said "filter out" because Americans think they don't have any accent, as if their way of speaking was pure English and everyone else somehow has a layer of strange accent on top of that
It scares me that he thinks of America as "devout." Fanatic seems more accurate to me. My experience is that Americans are more enthusiastic than sincere--at least the British are more honest about their apathy.
I used to watch House religiously and in all that time I watched it on TV, plus having seen Hugh Laurie in Stewart Little I would have argued until I was blue in the face that Laurie was American.
I find it funny, all the comments about no mention of "Struggles with the American Accent" like the Video Title said. This is RUclips - the home of "Click-Bait" Titles. Why would anyone be surprised that there was no mention of Accent?
I must be terribly British and correct your mathematics. 10k percent would be 100 times greater than 100% which means that Laurie is saying that Britain is 100 times less religious than the US, not 1000 times.
Kateřina Šafaříková Sorry, but no street preachers? I was living in your country (judging by your name, sorry, might be wrong) and there are always religious weirdos in the streets, mormons, new sects trying to talk bullshit into your head, and more in the big cities. I agree with dr. House, it's much different than in the US, but I wouldn't say NO bullshit. There is always a lot of bullshit everywhere you go. Bohužiaľ. Peace!
Very intelligent observation about Europe vs the US - culturally we're so incredibly similar, except for our religious leanings. In American religion is seen as a virtue. in Europe it's seen as a weakness or even a vice; something to keep to yourself.
I was at the same Christmas party as Hugh Laurie in the late 80's I didn't say anything to him, Rowan Atkinson was there too with other people from the Blackadder show which was something I'd seen a couple of times I wouldn't know what to say my common was EVE PHILLIPS who I really want to find as I've not been in touch with for as she was losing her hearing, as well acting in theatre in London and Edinburgh she was my number 1 staff member of my children's home Southdown's in Alresford near Winchester it's possible he my have known, we were close although the year's are passing.
wow religion eh? Surprised yet not so much. the American Dream stems from a religious background which is something that a majority of Americans hold dear.
jinofthethunder read up on Weber's The Protestant Work Ethic and The Spirit of Capitalism. Plus America was built on the notions of Protestantism so it isn't odd that their values are appropriated into our ideologies today despite how unlikely it appears due to the seemingly lack of religious spiritualism of America today.
An W what do you mean that america was built up on the notions of Protestantism? you mean the pilgrims? because the founding fathers were very secular. a lot weren't even christian. let alone Protestant.
jinofthethunder Just because our founding fathers were secular it doesn't mean that the values of protestantism didn't evolve in a way that even the founding fathers didn't adopt them. The reason capitalism exists is because it has its roots in the protestant work ethic. By the 18th century, the religious aspect of the protestant work ethic was lost and in turn profits and wealth replaced it.
An W so at what point in history are you talking about when Protestantism was central to the american way of life but not any of the older european countries that founded Protestantism.

The pain meds I'm on barley puts a dent on the good days so u can imagine what a bad day is like. I've been rushed to hospital several times because the pain wasn't manageable several times. And my options are limited because I have problems finding doctors who are interested in giving me the mid-high ranged meds because I'm so young. Weed could help, but getting anything other then THC in my area is almost impossible, and while it would help I'm not interested in doing heroin just yet.
Pierzing.glint1sh7 So like so many other chronic pain patients we often get treated like junkies because we are desperate, longing for even a few moments of pain relief.
christian bunke Is there nothing doctors can do to stop the pain?. Maybe numb the area completely by destroying nerve endings or amputation
nope, I guess they could technically destroy the pain center of my brain, but no doctor would ever do that. Hell CIPA is being classified as a disease when it really should be looked at as a cure. I can't see how breaking ur arm, just as an example, and not feel it would be a bad thing. But hey I'm biased so.
*SPOILER*
Probably my favourite House quote is right at the very end 'I'm dead Wilson...How do you wanna spend your last 5 months'
It didn't occur to me until now but this actually makes me sad because what happens to House after 5 months. He'll be lonely =( How does Sherlock survive without his Watson?
An W He'd find another wilson bla bla bla, house could have continued for another 8 seasons if they really wanted. Even if House technically died, writers could have easily got around that in half dozen ways.
AnWu
Agree. They should make a movie wherein Wilson's dead and House's alone, desperate and in pain. And then he gets to reunite with Thirteen to fulfill his promise to off her.
@J Wil Right? The movie could have a similar tone to what the movie 'Logan' has. It'd fit real well
@@jkasdhn99 I like that idea
Aside from house thirteen was my favorite character would be awesome to awesome to see her story concluded
Look at that. Im a guest here and i would never call my host bizzarre. Alot of ppl could learn a thing or 2 off that
I know, I thought the exact same thing! What a nice guy, unlike lots of actors/actresses who think the world begins and ends with them and that they have every right to criticize the US while making millions in Hollywood. Love House even more (which is saying alot)!! 😎
@@lisadc4681 it’s a British thing. They are super polite. To the point of inauthentic. They will never tell you what they’re really thinking about you because that is deemed impolite.

***** Same here. I grew up in the UK so I grew up with him as a comedian as part of a double act with Stephen Fry or in Blackadder.

where was he struggling with american accent
I wish they would bring the House character back somehow .. Hugh Laurie did such an awesome job !!

Hugh opened up to Larry more than any other talk show. Good interview.
Larry took a second to get Hugh's joke there. Love it
I remember back when Hugh was in Black Adder, he was completely different omg.
Guess they must have bought into the male power fantasy too.
sarcastic bowl of cornflakes "Owning a gun no more teaches responsibility than owning a car does"
There a nugget of truth in that claim and a large bucket full of ignoring human motivation.
Dangerous tool + idiotic operator = dead operator or an operator that is very quickly thrown in the stockade for manslaughter. People are stupid, but most tend to learn from the mistake of others if the results of the others stupidity is severe enough.
"People are irresponsible with both all the damned time."
Some are, yes. How many motor vehicles are owned in the US? 75 million? 100 million? How many are operated daily of these many millions? How many are used in a way that is either grossly negligent or outright criminal, resulting in grievous bodily harm? 1ppm? 10ppm?
".Except at least in the case of cars they serve purposes other than simply being dangerous."
This shows that you have a deeply simplistic understandiing of what a firearm is.
So they can always get their gun out"
The far majority or crimes and would-be crimes that a handgun helps protect against are home burglaries and rapes, both of in the absoklute majority of cases are perpetrated without a handgun.
"If I'm a criminal, and I want to commit a violent crime, I'll want to defend myself from potential victims, so there is a 100% chance that I'll make sure I'm better armed than any of the people I'm planning on choosing as victims."
That argument has been tried *many* times, and it looks nice on paper, but betrays that you simply are not familiar with the crime occurrences and the collected statistics in the field.
I remember the first time I heard him speak in his native accent: Wwaaaa?!
Still watch House great actor love his character on House
you can tell Larry likes Hugh very much as a guest
Best show I can think of: chemistry of funny smart and riveting. I own and watch all 8 seasons ( or 9 I forget) repeatedly and take a break every so often. Characters are all likeable even with their flaws which makes them more interesting. Bill Cheers
@Cozumel Girl
You were correct the first time.
House was on for 8 seasons.
can't do it. Just finished watching House. He is English? The whole thing was a lie? He isn't really a doctor? :(
Everybody Lies.
Nicholas Weber I think he ends up lying countless times during the series though.
Have you never watched Blackadder or Fry and Laurie? Never mind the millions of other things he has been in using a British accent.
And it wasn't even lupus. :D

He is incredible!
I've been watching him in House for so long that it now seems strange when I hear him speak with an english accent
That's House being Hugh Laurie!!!
He would play the best Rick Sanchez in a rick and morty live action movie.
I would love to see that 😅
I'd take a fucking bullet for this man. He's my hero.
Gee, after hearing about how Blair had to HIDE the fact that he WAS religious, I'm quite envious of Europe. Of course, over here, you have to be religious in order to be elected.
JOSH FORD really? still there people like you ? on freakin 2014 ?
Muhammed Yousif How am I being racist when you CHOOSE to be religious? Racism is hating on something which someone can't help, like skin color or ethnicity. Two passages for you below....
Quran (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help."
Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"
This is what your holy book teaches. How is this not violent or intolerant? Have you even READ your shitty holy-book? Maybe you should read something, because you obviously haven't read the book which you blindly put all your faith in.
Muhammed Yousif Owned
JOSH FORD There are extremists in every religion. There are extremists WITHOUT religion. Across international lines, guess what? There are extremists. Essentially, everywhere you look there will be extremists. To classify the entire Muslim population as "extremist" is an incorrect generalization. It's weird, I would think a man who spells his name in all caps would be better informed. Sam Garret, you are equally as stupid as the person you're agreeing with. How you found a way to pepper religion into a video about Hugh Laurie is beyond me.
Because Hugh Laurie started talking about Religion , You didn't watch the video?
i love his voice sm 🥲
Hugh Laurie is the best actor he does a better American accent than most Americans can 😂
Best House Quote: House says sarcastically while Cuddy is in the Room to where she would have to testify if something went wrong

It’s amazing to me how the Brits can remember their lines AND perfect the American “accent”
My guess is that they have to do more takes than average trying to deal with these two things.
Why is "accent" in quotes?
I’m an American, and his American accent is better than mine
When you call people religious, that's usually taken as an insult, like you're less intelligent, he was just polite about it lmao
This just feels like I’m watching Dr House put on a British accent
Love Larry King mispronouncing the person's name at 1:19. The name is anniwanczuk, first he says "Anne Wanziko", then "Annikovich".

Its not that they are private, its that they aren't as religious.
St. Rawman
That's true, & it reflects the fact that Britain is not as religious as the US. But many US politicians are not as religious as they claim to be. Statistically there must be many closet agnostics, & maybe even a few atheists. :-)
Though what the difference is just a matter of semantics.
My point is that here in Britain politicians can declare themselves to be devout Christians or gnostic atheists, & we think, interesting? Now what the hell do you propose to do about the solving our problems?
David Keenan Amendment to that,
Upon disclosing their personal beliefs we think, "and how do you plan on lying about fixing this situation?"
2:12 Tony Blair for example had to conceal that he turns into a gremlin when you drip fossil oil on his head after midnight, in order to get elected.
Love the interview. Love his music but I would love to see him act again.
Larry.. Honestly, you need to do some research before you interview your guests. It is one thing to ask leading questions for the benefit of the viewers... But your silly questions/remarks..
Yeah, right?
Perhaps he asking those "silly questions" for people who didn't already know?
Just guessing.

America’s devotion to the magic man in the sky is where the vast majority of our problems stem from.
indeed
I didn't even know he's British until recently i google him, I watched his show n reruns over and over, always thought he's American
How are you nowadays, Mr. Derek Nippl-E? :)
Tom Wilson haha I got that ;P
Hopefully one day there will be another host as great as Larry King RIP.
That last question was actually really interesting. I didn't expect that.
Is it just me or every time I hear Larry King I think of his Wax head on Gravity Falls
lol
There are some actors who do American accents and it doesn’t phase me when I hear them speak with their actual accent, but this sounds wrong to me lol
@@singenstattatmen5096 he said "filter out" because Americans think they don't have any accent, as if their way of speaking was pure English and everyone else somehow has a layer of strange accent on top of that
best actor ever
1:00 love the face
He’s such a great actor.. I don’t even feel like I’m watching the person who plays House.

Holy crap this came out on my birthday, first time I can say that on a RUclips video
I find it funny, all the comments about no mention of "Struggles with the American Accent" like the Video Title said. This is RUclips - the home of "Click-Bait" Titles. Why would anyone be surprised that there was no mention of Accent?
Had to look this up after seeing the episode where he uses a "fake" British accent to make a call lol needed to see if that was his real one then xD
He makes me long for Europe. 1/1000th the religious bullshit sounds nice.
I must be terribly British and correct your mathematics. 10k percent would be 100 times greater than 100% which means that Laurie is saying that Britain is 100 times less religious than the US, not 1000 times.
Pierzing.glint1sh7, very good. You're of course entirely right.
Kateřina Šafaříková It's an American thing, not a Christian thing. Plenty of Christians here in Europe, infact they are the majority.

Kateřina Šafaříková Sorry, but no street preachers? I was living in your country (judging by your name, sorry, might be wrong) and there are always religious weirdos in the streets, mormons, new sects trying to talk bullshit into your head, and more in the big cities.

Very intelligent observation about Europe vs the US - culturally we're so incredibly similar, except for our religious leanings.
In American religion is seen as a virtue. in Europe it's seen as a weakness or even a vice; something to keep to yourself.
True, in Europe people usually keep their religious beliefs to themselves.
Where is the commentary about the struggles with accent?
I was at the same Christmas party as Hugh Laurie in the late 80's

Same attitude different accent😂😂😂
"You change your life when you make a mistake! You just got stabbed"
wow religion eh? Surprised yet not so much. the American Dream stems from a religious background which is something that a majority of Americans hold dear.
how does life living in the peruse of happiness stem from religion?
jinofthethunder read up on Weber's The Protestant Work Ethic and The Spirit of Capitalism.
Thank god he's English 😊
