Hugh Laurie has a strange (though wonderful) career. Us Brits know him for his comedy, mostly in Blackadder and A bit of Fry and Laurie, but since he went to America he's gone on to these serious dramas. It's a huge difference from what he used to do, but I'm glad he has received so much acclaim.
Agreed. It has been quite wonderful to see him transition from playing the silliest men you can imagine to the scariest and most intense. And since he would rather die than say it himself, the rest of us have to: He is just awesome.
What Americans think of when people mention Hugh Laurie, House. What we Brits think of, "Row, Row, Row your boat, gently down the stream. Belts off, trousers down, isn't life a scream, Oiiiii"
Agustín Prieto Well it's not like he can use a British accent while playing an American doctor, haha😂 So it's not too surprising that he sounds so different....
I was sincerely hoping that dear Mr. Laurie would be cast in a part where he would be able to speak in his natural beautifully British accent!! A part just like the one in "Chance", but as a British Dr.! A show with depth & character such as "House" was, while preserving the authenticity of his charming English accent!! Are we American so lame that in all of our shows, we have to have American accents? A vast amount of doctors in America are from all over the world with various accents-- some are quite difficult to understand, so I don't see why he is mostly cast as an American and a Dr.!!
This is one of the best interviews I've ever seen and Hugh Laurie was effortlessly funny, just relating ideas and experiences without "trying" to be funny.
I've heard him say before that he tends to become very nervous in front of big crowds, which is ironic for an actor. But I agree very few people have the same kind of natural wit and humor possessed by Hugh Laurie.
As a Middle Eastern, I have a couple of Middle Eastern friends who are actors and most, if not all of their acting roles are either terrorists, shopkeepers, taxi drivers, or other stereotypically Middle Eastern jobs. In real life, most of my Middle Eastern friends are medical professionals (mainly pharmacists and doctors) lol. I never noticed this discrepancy until watching this video.
+monkiram Acting roles are pretty bad across the board for non-white ethnicities. I mean they have roles for them, but they just end up going to white people most of the time. But yeah "bad guys" in hollywood are always pretty in-step with US foreign policy at the time.

I remember Hattie McDanial (google Gone with the Wind if you don't know who that is) was asked why she, as a black woman consented to play a servant what the whole rest of black America was trying to change the stereotype. Her answer was, "I can get 500 a week to play it or $5 a week to do it." That cabbie that Hugh was talking about is the new Hattie McDanial.
A meeting of two beautiful minds. I could have listened to these two all night. The story Hugh Laurie told about the ‘middle-eastren’ cab driver tells us something else: it tells us why Hugh Laurie is a comic genius.
Seriously? Colbert isn’t funny at all and he’s every great writer in NYC writing jokes for him 😂 he’s now just making a living off Trump headlines kind of sad really.

You won't get an argument out of me on that one! :)
Wouldn't it have been great if Stephen Fry had showed up on House as either a patient or a doctor from overseas studying House's methods?

+NYCzora: "not if your foot gets amputated years before you actually die."
It's a bit radical but it does get rid of the bone spurs ;)
Hugh seems incredibly humble. I really admire his effortlessness in being funny.
At 2:04, Hugh Laurie channeled Bertie Wooster once again. I am using Jeeves and Wooster to help with my depressed state over this election.
Or possibly he channelled himself when he played Bertie Wooster?
two intellectuals at the studio, what a delight to listen to the conversatio of two mature men
I can never watch H7gh Laurie's work without seeing Bertie Wooster.
Knowing nothing about Hugh, I was surprised when I heard him speak in a British accent. He holds an American accent so well in House.
“Do these pants make me look like a terrorist?” 💎 Colbert, you are funny.
U r very beautiful
''it's like a woman asking you how old i am'' ,that was funny as hell
He's a really good musician. I watched a PBS special where he played the piano and sang at a blues club. I had no idea I liked the blues so much!
What a pleasure to have some wit and intelligence from a guest
People who recognise the band are always the most gracious of people.
Helena Wang plus Hugh is a very talented musician check out some of his stuff on you tube
He's a musician and that's a GREAT band! :-)
...HOLY SHIT HE IS BRITISH
DR HOUSE IS BRITISH!!
All of those years, holy shit. And his voice is so different, well fuck me sideways.
Watch Blackadder (seasons 3 & 4 are better) to see a totally different version of Hugh Laurie than the one from House.
MusicSprint1080p You didn't know? Lol that must have been so weird to find out. But year, he's as English as they come. His earlier work is mostly comedy and definitely worth a watch.
MusicSprint1080p Watch him in The Night Manager - SO GOOD
You watched House and only noticed that now? Weird.
MusicSprint1080p I remember the first time I realized Hugh Laurie was British.
Did you know the guy who played Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl is British? I just saw him on a late night show and had the same reaction I did when I found out Hugh was British.
Finally someone who makes sense to me.
Breastfeeding? Excellent subtle British sarcasm.
😆😄😃🤣😂😊😁😀
In France we love Dr House. Great actor and british humour. Welcome in France if one day you would like to visit or leaving or working in a film or série. Sorry for my bad english
