I don't think anything will ever beat his "Prince Charles and Princess Diana showing up for tea on New Years day" story
What he didn’t say in this version was that Hugh Laurie’s son was also there (a child at the time), and his name is also Charles. The boy was misbehaving and Hugh Laurie said, very sternly, “Charlie!” Which made the prince stand to attention and ask, startled, “yes?” Much to the comedian’s chagrin 😆
@@eleanor.shadow that makes it even better!
@@samfisher6606 yep 😆
@@eleanor.shadow He tells about 6 different versions of that part. On "As yet untitled" The boy turns on the TV and it was Lauries wife who shouted "CHARLIE" and startled 'His Maj' as Stephen would say.
Only works for a British audience, though. In 🇺🇸 we adore Stephen too, but as you can see by Downey and Duvall’s faces, we don’t know what Spitting Image is.
Stephen is a master at storytelling! Although he crashed Elton John's unfinished story but Elton was too polite to tell him off 😂
So, you noticed that, too!
Love Stephen but he does tend to take over which is a shame
Elton looking Stephen as if to say WTF! 😂
To be fair, Sir Elton did say he didn't remember anything about the experience except that it was in the BBC lobby. 😅
Elton polite?
Stephen Fry is brilliant. Such a terrific story-teller!
I don't know if I should actively approve of it, but I will say this thread is fascinating
In your humble opinion.
@@dontbefatuousjeffrey2494 agreed. Still your humble opinion tho.
@@HowDidIGet3700Subs Wishing you all the best
Don't worry if you're not so sure about 6th September as I have no reason to be able to get back from London yet and I'm going to have Emma for a bit later 😊 to work on the phone call tomorrow morning by
The way the audience reacted when he mentioned Princess Diana
✨💖✨Yes.
Yes! 💗
Yup.
Yea a bit pathetic realy isnt it..When you think of all the awfull things that happen on this planet every day and people just dont give a sh*t about.

I could listen to Stephen Fry all day. I love the Harry Potter audiobooks because of this man.
He reads his own book on Audible, Mythos, and I fell asleep listening to the tale of Eros and Psyche three times because of his voice. It's so soothing.
@@DorianPhQ I’ve been reading along with the book and audio book and it is simply brilliant his passions for the myths is infectious
I recommend his autobiographies (Moab is my Washpot, The Fry Chronicles and More Fool Me) as audiobooks. Some of these stories (like the one about the Prince of Wales visiting) are straight from those.e
harry potter fan xD 🤣🤣
And that's all? I am greatly surprised.
I'd go to church if Stephen did the services. I knew a pastor who didn't really talk too much about "the whole Jesus stuff", but more about ethics and how to be a good human and member of a community/society. Very inspirational. He had the congregation in stitches on the regular, too.
Exactly. To me, this person is a true believer in a way.
I would absolutely attend every week a humanist sermon in anglican garb by Stephen Fry.
When I was in high school, one of the priests in my church (American Episcopal) mentioned that he'd had to drop out of Divinity School because he no longer believed. I think the thing was that he'd thought about it so much that shades of doubt crept in. Several years went by, and he came back to the faith, and he said it was probably just what he'd needed at the time.
Same here, I don't really believe in Jesus and an almighty God and such. To me the idea of an all knowing, all powerful God that created this current reality being "all good" was rather depressing.
But there was still one preacher who I'd enjoy regardless, because they'd talk more about humans and ethics than about God and the bible. No "this old book that's been retranslated and twisted time and time again tells you this is immoral and you'll burn in hell" but "wouldn't it be great if people were nicer to one another" and "wouldn't earth be a little more like paradise if people tried to understand one another".
Stephen Fry is, and always will be, a treasure for humankind.
Stephen Fry is a national institution.
When younger he suffered badly with imsonia so he read as many books as possible, which is why he is a clever and very knowledgeable as he is.
It's a shame you didn't include the story he was telling when Nicole kidman was there, and she was in awe of his genius!
His brilliancy was to spend his insomniac nights reading - otherwise said, he's naturally brilliant ;)
@@MetteC5 I think this needs editing also 😉
@@hopebgood congratulations on that fantastic contribution. You must be a kid, so let me help you understand:
I was in a context with very poor internet and had no idea that my 1st comment (now deleted) had gone through. Since I've endured 52+ years of insomnia - that's 19000+ nights without sleeping, kid - it's a painful subject for me, so I didn't express myself as I'd wanted to: I edited the comment that my internet connection allowed me to see had gone through.
Is it clearer now, sweetie, or do you still need me to help you understand?
tbf he just told a fairly common story about greek mythology there and her being in awe was more showing her nonexistent knowledge than him showing his genius.
@@peterpan3022 Knowledge is relative, which you'd know if you were as knowledgeable as you try to appear.
i ABSOLUTELY LOVE Steven Fry his personality his accent. His being shines through everything
It's a privilege to share the planet with Stephen Fry, let alone the same country. A national treasure.
A national treasure. Would love to attend a dinner party with him giving an after dinner speech
even the prince of wales visits him for tea at home
Stephen Fry replied to me on Twitter with a brilliant answer. I told him that I had a dream that he served me breakfast dressed as Zippy from Rainbow, and he replied, "No, that really happened..."
I would marry Stephen Fry in a heartbeat. Not that he’d have me, but still. What an amazing human.
As a straight man, I have the same predicament.
I'll have to continue to settle with stalking him.
Oh girl, same 😄
As his character in Peter’s Friends said, he’s “not in the vagina business.” I would quote that when my friend, who adores SF, said if he was straight, he’d marry me.
I'm with you on that one 😉
your gender isn't the issue, the queue ahead of you is the main problem here 🤣
I love Stephen Fry's audiobooks of Harry Potter! As a Dutchie it really helped me improve my English when I was at Uni. Plus Stephen's voice is a joy to listen to.
Stephen Fry is absolutely brilliant and hilarious. I wish Graham has him on the show again!
Love Stephen's new look!
I could listen to Stephen Fry for hours, he is brilliant.
I love how he got the household together and told them Prince Charles is coming over - and *_no-one_* questioned it because of course he would be!
I think the guests knew that Stephen Fry's parents were friends with Princess Anne, or her first (or second?) husband. So he can invite Prince Charles anytime, and the (then) Prince of Wales can drop in anytime.
The part of Hugh Laurie hoovering the carpet after he said it was my favorite bit 😂
I just love Stephen Fry. It's so good to have such an intelligent person that can make you feel comfortable, and with his witty conversations. 🙃🇦🇺
Stephen Fry a wonderful man a brilliant mind. A National treasure ❤️
He is so funny and kind I love him 😂💜
believe me... All of us do... all of us
Don't forget he is the Narrator of Pocoyo
Stephen Fry is a unique human being. I love the man and was lucky to spend 15 minutes with him all to myself in toronto a few years ago! We talked about classical guitar and I recited a cynical poem I had written about Palmbeach. He was so gracious and told me he loved it
Even the mighty Elton John is quite happy to defer to Stephen Fry, the master of the chat show anecdote.
His Harry Potter audiobook work was just one big "best moment." Masterpiece.
What I like is that apparently Stephen Fry can tell his friends out of the blue that prince of Wales is coming for tea this afternoon, and they just accept it as a fact.
According to his autobiography, they only believed him after the security officers showed up a day or two earlier.
They way Stephen mentions Princess Diana, the crowd reacts beautifully.
Stephen Fry's sensitivity is a huge part of his appeal as a human being. Fate bless him!
I could listen to Stephen and his stories all day long
Man Stephen Fry with glasses looks a lot like Elton John, crazy how one accessory can change a look like that.
Stephen is simply a superior human of his generation!
I'd say he simply is a superior human being, regardless of generation. People like him are very rare.
i often think about who i would like to sit by the fireside with, a cigar in one hand, my favourite drink in the other, and just sit listening to them talking, about anything, and Stephen Fry is always top of the list.
we could have interesting people on the television, but everything has been dumbed down now to mediocre mono-syllabic people.
HOUSE MEETING! Gets me everytime. Aw, I miss Rik Mayall
Rik Mayall?
@@joanie3452 "Rick" on the Young Ones is the role that most Americans will know him by.
Living Legend. I dearly hope the British people know that and appreciate him, he's a wonder.
we do believe me
he is one of the most famous people in the UK, i mean for god sake prince charles rung him up for tea
Love him. National treasure. Great at accents too
Stephen Fry is one of those people who you can put into literally any group of people and he will just thrive. Royalty? Plumbers? Hollywood A-listers? Bible bashers?Sports stars? Homeless people? The most attractive people ever assembled? You name the company and Stephen Fry would fit right in
One of the coolest, kindest and funniest people I've ever seen. Long may you live, you absolute f@#$ legend.
“My children go to bed with you” and “Do you have a Prince Albert?”
I died laughing!!!🤣🤣🤣
I second that 😂😂😂
I absolutely love Stephen Fry..he is truly a treasure….living in America I just found his series Kingdom…I don’t know how old it is, having not looked it up, his character was so wonderful….and those in the show with him, so quirky….
I found Kingdom about a year ago and fell in love with it. I’m still mourning its cancellation. If ever a series deserved to go on for years and years, it’s that one.
Love listening to him talk. What lucky people, his friends.
Such a delight listening to Stephen Fry!
✨💖✨Love Stephen Fry. I’ve read his books. He’s a brilliant man.
His character in ‘The Sandman’ is almost identical to who he actually is in real life. Very nice man!
How many people can you think of, that Royalty would make a determined effort to join for afternoon tea? I love how the audience went "ooh" when he said Princess Diana.
He's such an intelligent story teller.
Stephen Fry is a genius at storytelling and acting
🥰 I just love Stephen , my new voicemail is "f*ck off Rory",much better than "I am not available and will never be" 🤪.
Adore the Charles and Diana story
Stephen fry is a wonderful intelligent man, love his stories .
Hello, how are you doing
Stephen is a gift to us all ❤
STEPHEN FRY IS MY FAVORITE PERSON! HE’S LIKE A KINDLY GRET UNCLE FIGURE! I FEEL LIKE WE’RE BEST FRIENDS EVEN THOUGH HE DOESN’T KNOW ME!
Stephen's Sir John Gielgud impression is bang on.
"The BEST Stephen Fry Moments." Elton John as the Thumbnail. 🤣🤣🤣
My comment is no longer Lore 🤣🤣🤣
Stephen Fry is absolutely amazing I love everything about the super human being.
Oh to have been a fly on the wall of his house on New Year’s Day 🥰
Love Nicole's undivided attention of his genius.
he is brilliant; no two ways about it. met him many years ago before he became famous and he was already terrific fun!
I should know all too well how good of a human being he is. I honestly have had many moments in my life which were good but this was absolutely amazing. He invited me to Soho hotel for tea. Long story short he met my mother when she was creating a charity about children needing technology to breathe at a radio station. It was one of the most memorable moments of my life. The tea was truly incredible but I didn't have much because I had a huge lunch on the train and didn't have much. I was so embarrassed but he was so geniune. A moment that I can assure you wasn't made up and I absolutely cherish every moment about that ❤ Oh and also he beat me at Top Trumps. 😂
Well, I learned something from this. Never bring an umbrella to the theater.
I too suffer from anxious talking. Glad Elton knew this about Stephen's nerves and didn't mind.
What a guy , he has everything
Stephen is such a treasure. Top lad.
Agree!♥️Stephen has this brilliant words and thoughts, who is so wonderful 🙏🥰
Love the New Year's Day afternoon tea story. Thank you for posting it.
Love how Nicole Kidman and Joe Lycett are so turned into Stephen
Yep. I was raised Irish Catholic. Love the incense. Love the statutes. Love the organs playing and the choirs. Love the kneeling. All of that ( not so much kneeling now, the knees are dodgy). But ultimately, there's more stuff that's a bit odd. Religion has some very fun elements. And then, it has some things that aren't very much fun.
This sceal might bring back memories, there's part one and two..
ruclips.net/video/zpHgSVUSrfY/видео.html
The thing to remember about the Catholic Church is that (at Mr Fry has pointed out) it is just the last remaining bit of the Roman Empire... of course its odd, but its old enough to be interesting.
@@alfnoakes392 You might want to watch Stephen's contribution (with Christoper Hitchens) on: The Catholic Church is a Force for Good in the World. It's on RUclips. Very powerful stuff.
Me too. Im an atheist, which even in 2022 is pretty jarring in Ireland for a lot of people, but i like Christmas carols, the architecture and not just Christian architecture, but Greek and Roman as well, all those temples wouldnt exist without their particular beliefs
One of the best of the best, love him
My dog is afraid of thunderstorms and one thing that calms her is Stephen Fry's voice.
Wonderful Stephen Fry he's so wonderful!!!
Legend, national treasure.
The last one about driving and Princess Diana were brilliant
Shh. My hero. When everyone holds him in awe, you know he's awesome.
Stephen Frye is an international treasure.
What amazing stories!!
I love this man.
Graham's reaction to Posh reading! LMAO Stephen is always quite the raconteur.
No OnE hAd AsKeD yOu AbOuT tHe JeSuS ThInG!!! OMG I'M DED!!! hahahahaha
stephen fry really is the superior story-teller! must-love
Hello, how are you
I take it they didn’t ask him to convert from Judaism to CofE
Everybody loves Stephen. He as the biggest heart.
Tea with Fry sounds wonderful.
I love Stephen Frye. His love of Wagners music was so sweet in a special he made.
🤣🤣🤣 he is so amazing!
Stephen is one of the best people ever born.
Stephen Frye is brilliant. Hands down. ❤
That little jab at America at 3:50 😂
Yes, we don't want to frighten the Americans with "philosophy."😂
He's right, though. Among the reasons for the name change were fears that a) most Americans wouldn't know what a 'philosopher's stone' is and b) kid's wouldn't read something with philosopher in the title, so they put sorcerer to make it sound more interesting.
The United States has had its fair share of philosophers, like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Thomas Paine. The concept of "philosopher's stone" is a part of Old European mythology. In the United States, rather than using an obscure stone to turn lead into gold, in the 19th Century, they just panned for it from a river or mined for it.
@@cqtaylor Thomas Paine was English. You cannot have him. He is ours.
Stephen has a charm unto himself.
"Never look at their chests, because that's when the camera goes off!"
So he points to their chests instead.
Brilliant!
I love the Princess Diana story
Oh, Stephen Fry! You're absolutely wonderful (as are your books)!
I LOVE the swimming pool metaphor!
He is a blessing
👌
No one I enjoy listening to more than STEPHEN FRY 💖
An absolute treasure
I'm not a Brit, but as one who is part of The Commonwealth, would it be permissible for me to call Stephen Fry a National Treasure?! Love that guy! ;-]
Im Indian and love him! When they say, "british" , hes the man that comes to mind 😊
Just love this awesome man
Love it how Pink reacted on what he said
Indeed! I do love this man’s mind!!!
LOVE AND LIGHT TO MR FRY!!!❤😊
He is my favourite person of all time
“I was making eggs Benedict” of course he was that is the most Stephen fry breakfast possible
Pink laughing at Stephen taking a pot shot at Americans 😂😂😂
Stephen Fry's royal accents are very good!
I actually became emotional when he mentioned Princess Diana.
Stephen, being sensitive is not pathetic at all.
I was brought up, if I had nothing nice to say, then don't say anything.
Even now, I'm 67 and would rather praise than criticise.
If I have to complain about poor service or rudeness, i will do that in the best possible way.
Exactly. My nan had always taught me that manners get you everywhere and cost nothing. There is very little I don't like, but rude people is one of them. Especially people being rude to workers at the shops; And if I were in Stephen's shoes, I would do the same thing and ignore hate.
