Lyrics:
A-one, two, three, four
Some days are diamonds
Some days are rocks
Some doors are open
Some roads are blocked
Sundowns are golden
Then fade away
And if I never do nothing
I'll get you back some day
'Cause you got a heart so big
It could crush this town
And I can't hold out forever
Even walls fall down
And all around your island
There's a barricade
That keeps out the danger
That holds in the pain
Sometimes you're happy
Sometimes you cry
Half of me is ocean
Half of me is sky
But you got a heart so big
(Heart so big, big)
It could crush this town
(Crush this town, town)
And I can't hold out forever
Even walls fall down
(Yes they do)
Some things are over
Some things go on
Part of me you carry
Part of me is gone
But you got a heart so big
(Heart so big, big)
It could crush this town
(Crush this town, town)
And I can't hold out forever
Even walls fall down
Baby, you got a heart so big
(Heart so big, big)
It could crush this town
(Crush this town, town)
And I can't hold out forever
Even walls fall down

I went through a traumatic attack, which I won't go into detail on here, and I went to some counselling. The therapist said I needed to get out of my comfort zone and stop isolating myself. This didn't make sense to me, as why should I get out my comfort zone if it's where I'm comfortable. Then I listened to this song, and the lyric "All around your island, there's a barricade that keeps out the danger but holds in the pain." And I then realised what this therapist was on about. But it took Tom Petty to make me see sense, So thank you Tom for making me see the light, and Rest in peace Tom, you got your wings now learn to fly.
I hope whatever it was is in the past and you're in a good place. This song helped me in a way words from others couldn't. "I can't hold out forever, even walls fall down." Walking away from something doesn't mean you're a quitter or that you failed it means you've come to realize it's just time to move on waiting too long takes a toll on us we must free ourselves from.
@@Folam Thank you. I agree.
🤠👍 ☮🦋💙
Wow I love what you wrote I been threw stuff too and music helps me too. God bless I hope u feel better.
@@jacquelinegarciaortiz5764 thanks. Music has always been a therapy for me, like you, there's a song somewhere for every kind of human pain. No matter what, somebody has wrote a song about it. Take care 🙂 💕
Rest easy, brother. You did your part in making the world a better place.
I'm going though a health crisis right now. An uncurable chronic illness is taking away my mobility. I've been struggling to accept this for quite awhile. Music has always been one of my biggest comforts and has helped me through some of the toughest moments of my life. Right now this song is helping me to keep going. I miss the heck out of Tom Petty. The first CD I ever got was Full Moon Fever. RIP Tom
Hang in there soldier!!
God bless my friend ,.hopes and prayers to you ❤️🙏🙏
❤
“And some things are over
Some things go on
And part of me you carry
Part of me is gone”
Tom, you will never be gone. We mere mortals will continue carrying on your songs and your messages. You shall always live on even though you left us far too soon.
We never really die. The love we inspired lives in those that are alive in the World afterwards. The inspirations came from heaven. We return to where those inspirations made and ultimately completed our souls.
Definitely the most underrated Tom Petty track, and Lindsey Buckingham on backing vocals is a pretty special combo. I miss Tom Petty and his music so much
@Wasn't Me 😊
I miss Lindsey Buckingham also!!
From an under appreciated album too.
Check out the echo disk ,,stellar .just sayin and rip tom and Howie maybe they got it worked out on the other side??!
I find this song incredibly comforting and soul crushing at the same time when I’m really missing Tom. He was just my fav musician ever.
Amen
Ditto,I always liked his music growing up. Strange that he’s gone. He’s a legend, one of the true icons of American rock.
Comforting and soul crushing is a description of the best part of Life. Holding that dichotomy of emotions is required of all of us and so many fail withhout realizing it; they think the secret to Life is to be "tough". Not true; the secret is holding that dichotomy in your heart.
Wait, hes dead? When did this happen?
Amen. I feel that way too.
How can you not be a Tom Petty fan?
hugely underrated song....never played anywhere anymore...love it.
They're doing it on their current tour.
yes they are...seen them in indy
Saw them do it at Summerfest back in July. Love it!
Totally agree. It has always been one of my all time favorites. So grateful for his music the soundtrack to my life. RIP Tom.
Loyal RaiderFan I spotted this one playing in my school coffee house
...and he left us with a void so big, it could crush this town...missing you 4ever TP.
Agreed
How is it every song he wrote speaks to me on a personal level? Like he's been writing just to me his whole career? No one else feels the way I do, do they? Miss you, Tom.
Yea, try having the same birth mark as the young one. Also epic stories of time before me.
Amen sister
The crowd that's here, reading these comments and carrying on day by day, all feel this way.
Miss Tom Petty every single day.💔
@@lynnkahle2586 I should elaborate enough to say that I'm that person with walls built tall and fortified well, so no one is ever break back in. I love all of Toms work, this song just gets me.
Lindsey Buckingham does a killer job on background vocals.
Was it from a movie?
This song is an absolute masterpiece. Pure and simple.
Who is singing the harmonies and in the background?
Sounds like Lindsey Buckingham
@@brfam1977 His longtime bandmates❣️
Ok!!!! So can we all agree 1996 was the best year of Music? And Jennifer Anniston looked great at 2:30
More like 1996 was the last good year. 1983 was the best, 1993 was second imo.
Yes,absolutely 👍🤟🎼🎼
Gotta say this was one of my favorite music videos on MTV. So yes 96 was a.good year.
'96 was not the Worst but close enough
This man was full of LIGHT!
Tom never wrote bad songs
He didn't know how!
Always ALIVE!
😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
true... mostly.. He wasn't keen on Dancin at the Zombie Zoo and wished it hadn't been on the album
@@richardmazda8474 Most of Tom & the HB's music was on the heavy side... which makes me think songs like Zombie Zoo was their way of having a little fun while filling up their LP's. They're probably the only group on earth that could write a song about zombies that doesn't suck.
Very well said.
Your damn right!
Alive thru us,, his fans, his music ,his memories ,half of me is ocean half of my is sky ,,even walls fall down but music stands test of time ,, something's r over ,, part of me u carry part of me is gone ,,even walls falls down I got a heart ❤so big. ,I cant hold out forever ,, cause even walls fall down ,, ❣❣❣✍💌💄💋👠💅💃
For the fans of Tom Petty, ALWAYS LOVED FOREVER MISSED NEVER FORGOTTEN ❤❤
Right on? Drivin Ventire Blvd. Thank you Mr Petty. Always think of him. My fav Indiana girl from Indiana town! He gets it. Indy Girl
Man, Tom Petty just GOT the concept of music videos as a storytelling medium, or else had the sense to hire someone who did to direct and choreograph. Such an amazing creator.
This man rescued me. I listened to all the Heartbreakers in the 70's and beyond. Stopped in the 1980's because of a violent relationship. Now in 2012 married to a wonderful man, And going back to all that is just Tom Petty. And loving it. And being allowed to love it . RIP our Tom
I still feel that Tom is here to guard us
I don't understand how his music videos don't have billions of views. He's the greatest song writer ever. Top 5 bands of all time. I put Zeppelin at 1 and Them at 2 all though TPH are my favorite everyone knows Zeppelin is the best to do it. No one has more great songs then these 2.
If anyone doesn't know...the entire alum that this song is on, "She's the One" was orginally supposed to be the second disc to Wildflowers. But, that didn't happen. Petty mentioned this in an interview a couple of years ago. He wanted to tour doing nothing but Wildflowers and this album...but that didn't happen either. The closest he came to that was this last tour being heavy on Wildflowers songs.
He is missed.
Thank you, I didn't know this. One of my favorite albums ever
Actually only two songs from the Wildflower recordings were released on she's the one. Rick Rubin talked about this in a recent interview. There is actually about a whole album of Wildflowers songs still unreleased that Rick Rubin hopes to release.
Matthew , I think there were three (“Hope You Never”, “California” and “Hung Up and Overdue”), plus “Climb That Hill” was a re-recording of a song originally cut for Wildflowers.
@@matthewmckenzie6472 jeez I hope it will be released one day! but how did this whole album end up being the soundtrack for a movie. A shitty one at that.
moe17moe it is in October, Wildflowers and all the rest
Who could not love these guys .....every song they did was a work of art!!
"Some days are diamonds, some days are rocks" What an opening lyric, such a truly beautiful song.x
It is an excellent line, but it is also 'borrowed' from John Denver's "Some Days Are Diamonds".
Hs the king of opening stanzas
"Part of me you'll carry, but part of me is gone"...
Tom said himself in a rolling stone interview that Johnny Cash said that line to him.
Yes, as Dale Kay says, Johnny Cash apparently used to say that a lot right when Tom and band were recording Cash's album, which has a great version of "Southern Accents" btw.
Thank you Tom Petty for nothing but class, quality and rocking, stunning music. Thank you.
I love the part On 3:56 when he sings “and part of me you carry, and part of me is gone” it feels like he really, really means it, every time.
Wildflowers
That really is the most impactful line, to me. Hits hard. Great call.
I noticed the same, and today is the first time I hear the song
When was this video made ?
@@jpcodnia9133 96 I believe
@@jpcodnia9133 1996. Almost 25 years exactly.
I love seeing Tom around this period. He looks so healthy and happy and always a twinkle in his eye.
Thank GOD for Tom Petty!
What's a Real shame is that people who care Soo much about songs , but they don't apply it to real life. Remember Petty songs when your waiting in line or in traffic or even when a coworker pisses you off. Just Forgive!! Give peace a chance ....................
Half of me is ocean, half of me is sky.
Beautiful!!!
I've always loved Tom Petty and am devastated to hear of his passing. RIP to the biggest heart breaker of all.
This is my favorite version of this song. Completely underrated and just a gem.
"Half of me is Ocean. Half of me is sky." Miss you Tom.
I love this line. This song is one of my top favorites
whoa... "all around your island there's a barricade - keeps out the danger, but holds in the pain" mr. petty... you are undoubtedly a gifted lyricist... a wordsmith of the highest order.... can't thank you enough for being true to your purpose and sharing your time, talent, and soul with a guy like me. Your music is the soundtrack to more fantastic memories than I have a right to. Thanx \m/
What a beautiful thing to say , you touched my soul thank you
So very eloquently said.
One of Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker's most underrated songs. It doesn't get mentioned as one of their best, but it should be. Absolutely amazing. We were blessed to have gotten all of the amazing music we did, but damn, I still wish Petty were still here to write more masterpieces like this one.
None of them are underrated. They are all excellent.
I agree, but I was referring to the general public's perception. My daughter knows "Free Fallin'" in part because she has slightly older parents than her friends, but her friends know it too (even if they don't necessarily know Tom Petty by name). But she only knows this song through me -- she loves it, but her friends don't know the song.
Too right. This is so clever. His performance of this song is spot on. Thank God for Tom.💔
Years can go by and when I hear this song - I remember my initial feeling when I first heard it. I love this song! Such an unappreciated song and musician! Love you Tom Petty!
Hello
Oh how many of us has a wall built up around us? Wish my wall would open and set my heart free.😊
The man was a musical prophet.
GOAT of Rock music.
You ever miss someone you never met but also feels like you've always known and is a part of you? Thank you tom, I carry some of you with me every day!miss you
This is my favorite TP song. 45 year old Tom was aging like a fine wine!
You mean this video was made in 1995-1996 ?
I thought it d be years more recent
Tom,got better looking as he aged .
All the "Celebs" featured in his clips ,are either my favs or I know ...so cool . Tom was One Of A Kind !!!
Some things are over
Some things go on
Part of me you carry
Part of me is gone, but
You got a heart so big
It could crush this town
And I can't hold out forever
Even walls fall down......
Miss you already Tom
I just cried my heart out. Tom is out of the music I should be into, I was born in 88 and when this song was released Im practically a child. But years later I heard this song and right there and then I knew this is my song. From that day till now from Walls to Wildflowers and to other songs tbat speaks into you-Iam a fan. Thank you Tom. Thank you.
It was 1996 to be exact, and I just enjoyed a good cry myself.
Been Loving Tom Petty since year 1978, I met him and the band in 1990 I still cry losing Tom, he was the nicest man I ever met.
if you listen close you can hear tom guiding us all through his music .it sounds dumb but there,s so much of life's ups and downs in his music that you cant help but understand life as little better afterwards
Weirdo.
I miss him too! We still have his music, and thats what would be important to him! I'll be a fan, till I join him! R. I. P.
Half of me is ocean.
Half of me is sky.
Tom Petty was born on October 20, 1950. In Tarot, the Prince of Cups covers the dates Oct 13-Nov 12. The attributes are the Airy part of Water. "Half of me is ocean." (Water), "Half of me is sky." (Air). He's telling you he's the Prince of Cups. You're welcome. This video is full of symbols most of you will never get with out cracking some books and studying.
My girl has this tattooed ocean waves on one arm and constellation on the other. Also has 2 lost souls living in a fishbowl
As a Gemini Sun, Pisces Moon, this is perfect
Love this song my sister and I used to listen to this song and sing it together all the time. I miss those days. Love you Jen. Can’t believe it’s been 2 years ago today that you passed away. All I can say is, “Part of me you carry, Part of me is gone. But baby you got a heart so big it could crush this town and I can’t hold out forever even walls fall down.” Love you little sister until we meet again in the other side of the veil.
abstractmilk2 i am so sorry. it sounds like she would really love to listen to this song more with you. i wish you happiness and peace.
We played this song at my dad funeral.. 😍
Beautiful comment.
I grew up with 5 bio brothers. Only girl. Song means a lot.
Tom Petty is one of the most talented musical artists of my time. What a sweet sentiment and connection you speak of regarding your sister. Im so sorry for your loss. God bless!
I wish I did for mine.
So tom petty. Reflect of the times. All talent and heart. Winning combo
Hi
This is October 21st; it is Tom Petty's birthday and the stations have been playing his music all day. Makes me miss him even more. I watch this video and think to myself "only he could wear a suit and t-shirt with converse sneakers and make it look good." I will enjoy listening to his legacy of music he has left us with.
His birthday is October 20th
He certainly was one of the most loved and respected American songwriters.... I'm just happy I seen them Heartbreaks live many times throughout my life.
Thanks Tom. RIP
Love all of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers music! Thank you for sharing , rest in peace Tom, and God bless everyone
This song should have well over a million views, very underrated in my opinion.
I'm here from the future to tell you that it's well over two million views now, you got your wish :)
RIP forever... and thank you Tom, thanks for your music. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🎸🎼🎶🗣🎤
Boy I sure miss Tom petty! He's put a lot of heart and soul to his music. I very much understand his songs and him
I ❤❤❤ Tom Petty. He had a spiritual yet an earthly rock thing to him. Angel soul that sang loves wisdom and beauty. I always loved hearing him on the radio. Plus radio seemed more destined when it was out of the blue. When destiny and chance controlled the radio and not us. He made the 80s a time I'll always be nostalgic for. On heavens radio he plays forever.
So somehow this Tom Petty song and video evaded me until today (Dec. 11, 2020), so you can imagine how freaked out I am because how prophetic it comes off...Tom Petty is such a unique artist...yet like a whole bunch of artists all at the same time...he's like a Beatle, like Bob Dylan, could have easily fit right in the Byrds, and yet at the same time, his music is like no one elses, so for me, that's what is so unique about him...he's like a lot of folks, yet there is no one like him...
This is something someone posted in the comments and it made perfect sense to me
"I put this one in his Top 5. ...Along with at least 30 of his other songs.
That might not make sense normally, but it does in this case, because he is Tom Petty. And he always will be."

We miss you and your music Tom!
May be my favorite TP song right now. I'm crushed and in emotional pain today after hearing that Tom Petty died yesterday....something I could never have imagined to have heard during my lifetime. What a shock. I will miss you, Tom Petty. You were for sure one of my rock & roll heroes. TO THE HEARTBREAKERS: PLEASE, take care of each other, keep the band together if you can, do NOT quit...We, THIS WORLD, needs you.....good musicians, great music is a VERY important piece of what it takes for us to survive in this world these days. Enjoy your mansion, Tom....I can't wait to see it and to see your new stage and recording studio!
every day still can't believe your gone you were brilliant and so kind and you had a heart so big Tom! we've heard the story of our lifes incorrectly an over an over again but you made it better;) luv u Tom Petty!
You bet, anyone not listening in 2019 is missing out. Still finding gems of Tom and his buddies! The music is incredible. He lives on...💔
It is a great song, thanks to Nature’s Classroom I know all the lyrics
Thank you for everything. Because of your words, I've known since I was a little girl that I am not alone.
A Thousand years from now, Humans will still be listening to Tom's music. Thank you Tom. Rest in peace my Friend.

my favorite Petty song...and the most underrated. Amazing.
This is one of my two-year-old’s favorite Tom Petty songs. I love it when my boy sings, “Coz you’ve got a heart...SOOO BIG!”
Awww... cute lil dude!
This is everyone's life. Rich or poor, famous or unknown. You still need to deal with the same things. But if you navigate right, it is still fun and worth it.
WishIcould showmyname . Romans 8:28.
WishIcould showmyname I love this
This is underrated.
No you can't speak for everyones life some lives are total shit full of abuse molestation murder that's fun?
God is the answer!
His insight into our hearts and our minds, well, it just blows my mind! Loove you Tom Petty!!!
Very George Harrison and nice alternative country sounds. And of corse, Tom's always outstanding music video. It doesn't get much better than this folks. There aren't very many musical entertainers left that are as talented as Tom, a living legend, so enjoy, don't take this music for granted, and let's all pray that the world receives many more albums from this fella. - Kitchen Dick Jones

The acoustic intro to this song is simply amazing. Soul-wrenching...
Anyone listening right during corona?
An unbelievable song, a huge underrated song by Tom's. Saw him perform this on his 40th anniversary tour in Toronto. It was my first and sadly my last time seeing Tom. Went to the concert with my mom and it's something I'll never forget. Such a beautiful song, RIP King!
I miss him so much!
🌻Same here 🌻
I was privileged to see Tom perform twice and boy did he put on one helluva show, just an amazing performer and musician. He will be missed.
The lyrics to this are particularly resonant today. If some days are rocks, today is definitely one of those days. RIP Tom.
They're always resonant because he based them around natural law. Learn the Tarot and you'll understand why the lyrics are immortal.

BEST... SONG.... EVER. I can't get it out off my head, I love music and I can't get most songs out of my head, but this I can't get out of my head.
Tom on the ground and then leaving with his guitar case to catch his taxi always gives me a lump in my throat, it's like a premonition of him checking out of this circus of a life.....
Still can’t get over that he is gone. True genius
I love this song, and no part of you is gone, Tom.
Even walls fall down. So true. Love you Tom.
Some things are over and some things go on. Part of me you carry, and part of me is gone 😞😞😞🥺
I love this. Who couldn’t? He was a treasure.
Once, again, , A, GEM....
One of my absolute favorites. Thank you, Tom Petty.
Hello
Tom Petty invokes some of the best memories I have from childhood. I'm so grateful to have been given access to his music growing up and for the family and friends to share memories with.
Happy Birthday, Tom!
This looks like it was made for George :), namaste and thank you for the beautiful music, always.
Wow… I always thought this was a love song. Now that I’ve lost my Mom I hear it completely differently.
Most definitely a gem of a song that was underrated. Thanks Tom, you put life into words.
Sorry for your lost...Me and my sisters played this at my dad funeral
My mom and I were actually on our way to see the Stones we literally sang every song .... sadly I never got to see him live but she did 1000. God bless him n family
It’s difficult to fully express how much I love this! A group of friends digging each other. Some of the greatest names in rock/ music history and a drummer who is a legend out of the limelight. Great lyrics. George and Tom I do hope you have teamed up again. Xxxx
You will be sadly missed Tom. This tune touches some good vibrations as I always felt a little Beach Boys vibe in it.
Tom Petty just makes everything feel so much better. I even managed to find the chords so I can jam to it myself. Rock on Tommy!
I miss my grandma this song reminds me of you I wish you were here with me atleast I knew that my grandma was the one that showed love and cared about me she didn’t treat me any other way despite how my immidiate family treats me today. One day soon i will be joining you ❤
Once of my most favorite songs. This version is so Beetle'esque. Rest in Peace, Tom Petty.
RIP Tom. Truly one of the greats.
I guess the lesson here is everybody will die no matter how tragic the genius or misery they spread. Just don’t ever take it for granted. As the song says something’s are over, something’s go on , that part of me you carry that part is gone. So simple, so brilliant, and something to always know. As much as we yearn for it we don’t have forever, we have now, so take everything from it. .
This is his best song just love it and can’t stop playing it
When I met my husband this song was just released. I hadn't heard it yet, he told me to listen to it because it made him think of me. It was the first time someone actually got me. I had just got over the hardest two years of my life, I'd give up on hope. But, mostly I had given up on love. Once again Tom & the Heartbreakers said what I couldn't and as always the lyrics were very relatable in my life. I'll always feel lucky I grew up listening to such an amazing artist.
Great song. Love the backing vocals by Lindsey Buckingham. You will be missed Tom. RIP.
