Lyrics:
I shoulda known it, I shoulda seen
Leave it to you to treat me mean
Every promise was just a runaround
I shoulda known it, yeah, you're gonna let me down
Well, it's over now, you see
That's the last time you're gonna hurt me
I shoulda known it, hard to believe
It was all right there in front of me
Sold down the river, left for dead
Yeah, you're putting ideas in another man's head
Well, it's over now, you see
That's the last time you're gonna hurt me
Thanks for nothing, yeah, thanks a lot
Go ahead, baby, take all I got
And it's over now, ya see
That's the last time you're gonna hurt me
Yeah
That's the last time you're gonna hurt me

I miss Tom Petty so much
❤❤❤
We all miss him
This song is way underrated, it should get more air time on the radio...
Radio plays what they want us to hear. The listeners’ preference is a non-issue.
The last DJ died decades ago (-;
too cool for the undiscriminating ...
I totally agree! Great song. Will be meeting you soon Tom. Do you still do concerts? Love and miss you! Your music has been with me for my entire life. Can't wait to meet you! Save me a spot please...if you can? Thanks.
@@sharleeglenn211 Tom will be doing concerts forever. And screw radio and DJs, I make my own station all the time. This song, and most of Tom's albums, get play on every single road trip.
Bob Dylan was quoted as to why he likes jamming with The Heartbreakers " They're such a tight band it's like playing with one guy ".
GtrPkr 24 yes and so true, one band, one sound....✌️
Yeah, I saw also Dylan's comments on the Petty documentary. I recall also Tom said what a blessing it was for him, to have happened to grow up near of the two best musicians IN THE WORD (Mike & Ben, of course). :)
This one's for you James corella
Oh yes
One of their best songs and so late in their career. They sound just as intense as they did when they made that first album. One of the few bands who still rock without compromise 40 years down the line.
Mike Campbell is just...brilliant! 🎸 I can't think of any other words to describe his playing style. Next to the late, great Tom Petty, he's the most amazing musician I've ever had the pleasure of watching play live.
Mike is the shit
@@AP-ui7oi one of the most underrated guitar players OF ALL TIME....PERIOD. (saw them live 3 or 4 times....blessed)
and his intonation on slide is perfect... that is tough to do... very tough.
Shout out for Mike Campbell!! They truly were musical brothers
I love Tom Petty. He's been my favorite since I was a little kid. (I'm 30 now)
Tom died just a few months before my dad. When we were gathering some personal things to showcase at his funeral, I found Tom Petty tickets from a show on my dad's birthday IN THE 90s!!! I set them up on a table at the funeral. Miss you pops. You and Tom behave up there. ❤
My Dad's up there also, and he loved music. They have all the best!!
surry dou i love this shtttt hell yea just the way i wanna be rembered
❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂
The first time I heard this on the radio I had no idea who it was. I thought it was something really old that I just never heard before.
NOBODY makes music like this anymore.
This kicks ass.
Finally...Mr. Campbell show some of what he can really do...!!!
I know, the same thing happened to me. I heard this song a couple of months ago and had no idea either who it was, I really loved the song. I tried calling the radio station to see and I couldn't get anyone to answer. Leave it to youtube for me to find it after typing some of the lyrics into the header. Don't know how this got by my radar almost ten years ago, unreal.
I know! Right? Like where in the hell have I been?
@@bignhoj47 You Get Me High has him hittin' some liicks, also... lol
we lost a fucking legend today, rip tom, you will be missed by tens of millions
A testament to Tom Petty's timeless songwriting ability is how great his later works were. He never fizzled out as the years went by. He kept pumping out hits until the very end.
What a killer guitar riff man. He continued churning out awesome songs from his beginning to the very end......R.I.P. TOM!🙏
This illustrates how versatile Tom and the boys were. They could rock with the best of them, and then switch to folk and then to psychedelia. Just the best.
a
Mojo is such a great album in an incredible body of work. This man knew what he was meant to do in life and did it. So thankful he did and had such amazing musicians around him; what a singer/songwriter & what a band! Won't ever get better than TPHB! Heaven's rockin'!
How could anybody thumbs down this? Tom had a song for each emotion you are going through. RIP miss you so much Tom💔
Absolutely THE best band. Best songwriting. Best backing vocals. Best musicianship.
Can I get an AMEN!! Noone better.
SourBearProductions AMEN
Music is subjective... But not when it comes to Mr. Petty... Hands down the greatest.
@purplemcrain 😂 no.
*2nd best
R.I.P. Tom Petty. You're missed by millions.
Got that right.
He is one of the greats!!! So much talent lost. To a man who died unexpectedly. He should have been around for much longer. 😩
Oh hell yeah he is!
@@eddygee816 why are you even here if you hate his music? Seems pretty odd to come here to hate and insult w/o knowing anything. It says way more about you than him.TP was a gentile and consummate gentleman, great musician and was gracious to every one and probably would be to you despite your rudeness. You called him one of the ugliest men in US, well how about you? You've no photo,so we can't compare.BTW,He died of complications related to his broken hip, maybe you should try doing your job with one and see how it feels, that being said he also saved a woman from burning fire, running into the flames, have you?I do not like ever being impolite but your remarks against a man who cannot defend himself are loathsome. Peace
@@eddygee816 The sunglasses all the time were due to years of his eyes being exposed to bright stagelights, he would get headaches from being in any brightly lit room so the glasses were necessary for him to wear. But you wouldn't know that because you shot your big mouth off instead of doing your research. I suppose you think that hip hop garbage is music right?
Good lord - out Zeppelining Led Zeppelin! Plus a little old-school Aerosmith style guitar solo in there as well. The old men just melted every kids face off. Go back to school, kids. This is how it's done
THAT's EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GOIN TO SAY "THIS ... IS HOW IT'S DONE. O MY GOD !
Damn right!
Fuckin a. Thats the best coment I read in a while
Well said friend...
Randy Wilcox don’t go that crazy
R.I.P. Tom Petty. You were the most badass rock legend 🙏
Old school, real talent , they don't make them like this anymore. Saw a true legend in concert April 2017 in Atlanta. Will never forget it...
yeah they do
@@mikeallmon6437 NAME 'EM, "Junior!" LMAO
I was there, at Philips Arena! My first and only time to see Petty and his band.
@@mikeallmon6437 where? 😂 No they dont.
Hell no they dont
This should have been a Grammy winner. What a badass jam 😎
I do believe this is my absolutely favorite Petty video. It's only just perfect!
\\
Oh!! This is Just F*****g AWESOME!!. R.I.P. Tom
One of the coolest songs Tom and the Heartbreakers have ever done. Can't get enough of this one. Miss him so much!
The driving tone and the droning riff is so sick, I love The Heart Breakers
Thats rock & roll baby Love ya RIP brother the tears are still rolling
Tom looks so badass in this video, can’t get over it
Literally the best dressed and coolest drummer ever. Period
Impeccable timing. All live. It doesn't get any better.
Tom Petty will live 4 Ever . Crank IT Up !!
It is about time somebody got back to basick riff rock! simple, elegant and Epic!
I agree
true enough.
rock n roll heroes.
Fuck You 2017 I already Hate You Just Like When I hated 2016.
AC/DC still does basic riff rock. They are the kings of that. Alice Cooper says "AC/DC are the kings of simplicity". Tom Petty does the same in this song as well. Mike Campbell is a very under rated guitarist in my book. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves. I'm sure going to miss this band. R.I.P. Tom!!

Big Tom Petty fan and big Chris Stapleton fan. As someone who heard Chris's version first, I must say I like Chris's cover better, BUT... that guitar at the end of the original is KILLER.
Chris ain't Tom brah
Look at the way they're all kind of awestruck by Mike's solo. He is so good!
Does not get the credit he deserves. He is absolutely awesome!🎸💃💃
On You Get Me High, he just "shreds" his axe! Factthat...
and that my friends is rock n roll.
AMEN!! As straight forward BADASS as it gets!!
Absolutely right
Backspacer oh yes man
This is a great song and we will always miss you Tom Petty I am 10 years old and Tom Petty is my favorite musician
Upcurch Fan I saw him and his band 3 times and once with Bob Dylan in my days of rocking my young friend, I can tell you this Tom Petty’s music is the soundtrack of my youth.. Rock On !
Good for you man Tom petty is killer truly a legend
Upchurch Fan...if I were a bettin’ woman I’d wager that Petty will always be your favorite musician.
Di* deep young bro’. There’s a lot to find in this man’s words and his and the bands music.. listen and watch how sympathetic they are to each others’ playing.
You must have intelligent parents with phenomenal tastes in music, my parents did also, we are blessed to know this brillance in a world with so many that know nothing about who the greatest musicians of all time even are, I feel sorry for them
AMAZING! Who the hell comes here and DISLIKES this? unreal... Rest In Peace You Legend!!
Justin Krause Photography & Media Sad and lonely people with nothing better to do. What a bunch of losers that have no idea how good TPATH.
TOM PETTY WAS A ROCK N ROLL GENIUS!
Justin,Top thread gives that answer I think...Tom Petty was an amazing and humble musician who treated everyone with respect. Something we see less and less of these days, esp with younger people, what a shame and boy, what they've missed being brainwashed by the garbage music put out today.
477 complete idio+s
Tom and Mike have such an awesome understanding and depth of the blues. For any band to rock this hard this later in their career is mind boggling. Most musicians/ bands this far in their careers are either dead/ have quit the industry/ radically changed their initial sound. And here you have Tom n' the boys doing what they still love to do--amps on ten and still channeling the energy of what got 'em into music in the first place.
Tench too!
and Ferrone is certainly his own drummer.
Very strong line up who else but the Stones can claim longevity like the Heartbreakers?
xkguy Deep Purple
ZZ Top, Rush, not too many though.
Absolutely !!!!! They are (were....as I'm crying now) one in a million, for sure....
you hit the nail on the head with that one...
Man, Campbell nails it so fuckin' hard
Just another totally awesome tune from one of the GOAT!!!!!
MIKE CAMPBELL IS THE MOST UNDERATED GUITARIST ! His lick library and abbillity to complement a record is outstanding , This shows how GREAT he really is!!!
absolutely....he wrote the music for "Boys of Summer" and Tom turned it down lmao! Don Henley said thanks
How a band who've been around this long made this song, is amazing. RIP Mr. Petty. Still listening to your Sirius show like you never left us.
I love this song for so many reasons ! It is like Tom saw my soul!
One of the greatest Rock n Roll bands for sure...Petty’s music & songwriting is superb. This song is great.
Ok. It kicks ass. It’s a “tough song” this song is strong. The vocals, impeccable, the music impeccable! Rock-n-roll baby!🦆
This song is so fucking bad ass. They’re in a sick sick groove man. They were recording the entire album there in their practice space somewhere in the Valley. 1-2 takes per song and that’s it. On the album. Done. Kinda exactly like they recorded earlier in their careers. They tried to get everyone playing in a perfect groove and catch it all in the studio session, and god damn if they didn’t do just that. Until Jeff Lynne, that is. He likes to use the studio as an instrument 🎻, so starting on Full Moon Fever and through Great Wide Open and Let Me Up, I’ve Had Enough, I believe. Then back to the whole band recording most of the songs with layers of guitars and other things like additional drum tracks and piano layers plus always more guitars, Tom loved to layer multiple guitars on his stuff. That started again with Wildflowers and Rick Rubin who produced and preferred recording everyone together. Petty and Mike Campbell loved to experiment with the studio equipment for effects and it’s in the music, they could master any style of recording. 40 fucking years and not one bad song imho. The last album was right up there with the best of the rest. Room at the Top was one of his best I think and that was Echo which he hated for years because it was such a bummer time for him and most of the other dudes in the band, he was getting divorced and they were all going through some kind of personal shit but Tom’s new wife, Dana got him to listen to Echo again and thank god because he started playing Room At The Top and a couple others from the album in rotation for live sets, like the 20 night stand at the Fillmore and another long engagement a few years later plus something like that in New York at Madison Square Garden possibly??? Actually I think the NY stuff was somewhere else but whatever, amazing stuff. You can see lots of the Fillmore stuff here on RUclips, look for Walls and Room At The Top where Tom is wearing a white long sleeve button down and that’s the Fillmore. If you dig around you can find a ton of “bootleg” entire shows, I’ve downloaded a dozen or more concerts, pretty cool especially considering.... He will be missed man but he is the best kind of immortal. Unlike the kind of immortal dRumpf is gonna be.
Great sound and great song. Already missing you Tom.
Oh man... this song gets me every time. The main riff has got to be one of my favorite Heartbreaker's riffs ever and that last solo by Mike Campbell is so cool.
One of the great things about Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers is that they enjoying playing and singing as much as we enjoy listening to it! Which for me, is a heck of a lot! :) x
Sue Reaney you hit that nail right on its head
Soon much
@@kimberlybellefontaine1215 I meant sooo much
You can stand him up at the gates of hell but he won't back down...taken too soon. Rock in peace, Tom, thanks for the good times
T.P Sounds like something that used to be referred to as unadulterated, pure, footappin' , ferocious ROCK AND ROLL!
DAYUM!! That's some simple STRAIGHT FORWARD ROCK N ROLL!!!
RIP TOM PETTY. I bought TP&HB first LP back in 1977 when they were hit less & turned all of my friends on to the record. It has been a great ride.
Love Love Love Tom Petty! Bloody Awesome song......Go Tom You Rock!!!
Hello
Damn! This is just a rock n roll band having fun and it is awesome!
Absolutely love this...they still have it!
Jason Rogers They always will. Rockers till the end!
They still had it.....all the way to the very literal end... :(. RIP Tom.....you gave us everything you had, everything you enjoyed doing.....and I'll always love you❤️
His music is timeless...
Tell em Tom! "Last time your gonna hurt me!"
Mike Campbell makes it looks so easy. With swagger and style to spare. Absolute badass player.
That drummer is a beast. DAMN he can play them damn drums. And the guitar? Krrrazzzzy! I refused to be boxed in by one kind of music. I love different genres - Soul, R & B, Reggae, Jazz, Afro beats, to name just a few. But how can anyone not love this type of rock music? Tom Petty will always be the real deal. A true musician indeed. They just don't make them like that any more.
Ive seen lots a great bands live. Tom petty had to be the best one. Ive seen the stones 3 times to.
I still can't believe he's gone.
Lisa Dobecki I know.....I can't either :(
Has Tom petty ever written a song that couldn’t be a hit?
No, no he has not
The Heartbreakers..still rockin fine...
that's a pretty good song...a lot more than most could come up with after 40 years of writing. I guess the well is still not dry.
Chrisann Martin I loved him from the very beginning , too. I remember that shaggy blond haired kid with the skinny legs, singing "Breakdown" and "Listen to Her Heart"....and "American Girl"❤️. And then, whew, he grew hotter and sexier as the years went by. And man, he rocked right up to the VERY end of his life on this Earth. I guess we can't be sad for HIM. Heck, he did what he absolutely loved to do right up until the last days of his life. I'm sad for us though.....for who and what we lost when we lost Tom Petty... :(
love this studio with all the rugs.....
RIP TOM PETTY you provided us with awesome music and fond memories. You will forever be with us in these memories. My thoughts & prayers go out to all your loved ones. Sure glad I had the pleasure of seeing this talented man a few times !

My favorite late-era Tom Petty song. I've been a fan since I was a 7 year old in the early '80s. Talk about musical consistency and putting out album after album of solid rock. RIP, Señor Petty.

I miss Tom. Despite his success, he was the most humble individuual. I saw about 30 of his concerts (California, New York - Beacon, MSG, Jones Beach). I saw him aged but always give him the best he was able to. RIP.
The first time I heard this was at a gym back in 2010. I remember that three other people finished their sets and came over to the tv to watch and listen! At the end we looked at each other and we all said we were blown away! What a rocking song!!! A masterpiece! :) 🔥
this drummer is good! and the best part is he fuckin wears a suit! I'm playing this with my band!
