- The father of FINAL FANTASY, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and renowned composer Nobuo Uematsu return to deliver an original RPG story!

That's a really interesting way to capture the feel of the FF7-9 style backgrounds with higher fidelity.

I love this visual style, it perfectly captures those old school pre rendered backgrounds
FF9 has one of the best art styles. It depresses me that Square threw away all the assets, so we could never get them at their original resolution. There are some comparisons online, and they look so good.
@@mrbisshie shooot. To be fair tho. The dev footage n deets for ff9 is a thing and Sakaguchi San and his teams are still alive and kicking. If one wanted to be crazy enough to rebuild FF9 from the ground up with modern code….not impossible

The "sending the enemies to another dimension so I can clean them up quicker cause I want to get to the next part of the story sooner" is a cool concept for an RPG.
Banking all of your random encounters and wiping them all up in one go
The only problem is, it basically just turns the game into a walking simulator. There's 0 reason to not just let the encounters add up, so the pacing becomes "walk around a dungeon with nothing going on then do one big battle".

@@Eichro Why even play an RPG if you don't like the combat? Plus there's better mechanics for it like Estoma in SMT, which stops random battles that are lower leveled than you. It feels like a mechanic specifically made for people who don't like RPGs, for some reason.
At long last, a Mistwalker game leaves its native console. I don’t think the trailer highlighted that this games environments are real life dioramas

I liked that Square Enix chose to do this announcement on Nintendo Direct over all of the other Summer shows. It's really good to see them working with Sakaguchi again even if it's just for publishing. Hopefully it leads to a full on collaboration project down the line.
To be honest, Sakaguchi isn't good at making games anymore. He's really washed up as a developer and nowadays he mostly just plays FFXIV and approves other people's work (his words, not mine).

@@porkncheese1789 I don't get the absolute reverence for Sakaguchi. People constantly ignore Kawazu and Nasir's contributions to FFI, which were arguably much greater and more important to the game's success than Sakaguchi's were. Let's also not forget that Sakaguchi made stuff like The Spirits Within and Blue Dragon, and also did very little during the developments of FFVI, VII, and IX. I appreciate his work on FF III - V, but let's not pretend that he's a perfect god of a developer that can pumps out masterpieces. In reality he just sits on FFXIV all day and does very little, he's literally just brand recognition at this point to trick people like you into buying Mistwalker games that he barely had anything to do with.

@@MikAlexander I mean, can you really name any standout songs he's done since the classic FF games? I feel like the man is just coasting on his legacy at this point, he ran out of inspiration ages ago and just keeps doing it for a paycheck.
@@AnaverdGaiden I can't name songs, and I remember The Last Story's OSt vaguely. I get your point. But you know, when you are a composer for hire, the director does ask you to write in more specific style, and for last 20+ years it was to be more and more serious/cinematic etc. At the same time people change. I mean Nirvana only had one Smells like teen spirit song. They had other hits, but no where near the level of that one. You know what I mean. And simultaneously, people also develop their craft towards certain direction, and leave certain ideas behind. Uematsu is much much better at orchestral music arrangement and orchestration then he was in FFX days. With age people become more technical and practical. But I'm also pretty sure, because I know there was a point around 00's when suits investment started rolling in in to games and movies, that composers where specifically requested to give up on certain styles - here it was about phasing out prog rock aspects of music, without understanding that prog rock is the backbone of FF ost. So what I'm explaining here is that there are other factors that can influence how composers write. But you also might be 100% right.
People downvoting this truly dont understand how bad people want this game. They just see "looks like mobile" without knowing the story behind this title.

@@gleam6370 The game came out over 3 years ago and was exclusive to Apple Arcade, only playable on iPhones, despite being a legit console quality RPG made by the original creator of Final Fantasy, Sakaguchi Hironobu. People have been BEGGING for it to be on another platform since and it seemed like it just was never going to show up elsewhere, but finally it's getting a port/remaster to modern consoles.
The story is so good I started it on my iPad but the performance was annoying so i never finished NOW IM GOING TO OBLITERATE THIS GAME! Please buy it!

The fact that they added voice acting is probably one of the biggest things needed. I won’t lie on the phone it being completely silent really took some of the energy out
Really. I don't mind no voice acting, but the game has such a high production value on everything else that it felt weird not having it.
Yea I feel the same it felt like everything was there but that. I’m glad it’s added. Kinda reminds me of the original chaos rings on iPhone launched without voice acting and to me it didn’t matter at all then they added it out of nowhere. I wonder if they will update the phone version or maybe a re release or something
This didn't have voice acting at first? Guess it's that Square Enix money.
Personally, I preferred the lack of voices. It allowed me to imagine what I think the characters sound like, and how the lines should be intoned. Still, I can see, or perhaps, hear why voice acting would be good.

@@FireWizzrobe If you didn't like Octopath Traveler then you definitely wouldn't like this game, then. OT is one of the highest quality RPGs of the last decade, while this game is suuuuper generic and doesn't excel in any area. It's your classic average RPG.
The mechanics for this actually sound really interesting... this one is definitely on my radar.
I played half of the game when it came out and personally, I'd say skip it. There's WAY better RPGs announced in the direct that are more worth your time (Mario & Luigi, Phantom Brave, Dragon Quest, Romancing SaGa 2, and Hundred Line).
Finally, the long awaited Sakaguchi game is released from Apple Arcade. Day one buy, already finished it on Apple Arcade and will finish again on the Switch.
I'll always be there for Sakaguchi and Uematsu/Mistwalker. Still hoping for remasters of their previous titles!
This seems kinda fun so far.
This game is from the studio that gave us Blue Dragon (which had character art by Toriyama bless his soul), Lost Odyssey (one of the best RPGs of the 7th generation), and The Last Story (one of 3 games campaigned for in Operation Rainfall alongside Xenoblade).
The landscape diorama art style is the sole reason I want this game

The Final Fantasy OG's are at it again? Let's GOOOO! This news and the upcoming Dragon Quest HD-2D remakes have my heart smiling on this day.
Keep in mind, Kawazu was most of what made FF what it was. Sakaguchi mostly just gets the credit. He and Uematsu are also very washed up these days. I'd recommend buying the Romancing SaGa 2 remake instead, it's made by Kawazu and has way more passion and charm than Fantasian has (saying this as someone who's played both).

Got a AppleTV to play this when it released and got an Iphone so I could play it on the go, So happy you'll all get to play this masterpiece on Switch, PS5 and PC Time to Quadruple dip! This game is old school HARD like REAL HARD.

They released this on Apple Arcade. This game gave me nostalgic memories of skipping middle school to play Final Fantasy VII. I haven’t beat it yet but I do love it and recommend it.

For those who don’t know, this game is exclusive in Apple Arcade and many people like me always wanted a console port, this game is a lot more then what you think, what they showed in the trailer is barely everything included with the game, I promise you it’s a lot more difficult then any final fantasy game you’ll play, can’t wait for a rerun of this on the bigger screen.
How good is the story?
@@Zerorenren4761I’ve played it. It has its moments, and I consider it good, but from what I’ve been told, and from what I’ve seen, if you’re tired of what could be considered a “standard” JRPG story, don’t come expecting to see anything too new.
What’s funny is that I was praying The Last Story (a Wii-only RPG by Mistwalker) would be rereleased in some way.
And guess what, it may not be it, but I’ll take it

I played this when it came out on AA. Loved it so much. Excited to see it finally on Nintendo Switch. There's a video as well showing how they made it, with all the handmade dioramas and 3D photography.
I still think Leo's design is terrible. The combat is a refreshing spin on turn based combat though.

@@hoppie4263 It is cool how the environments are hand made, but as someone who played most of the game and ended up quitting out of boredom I just wouldn't recommend it. It's just a mediocre mobile game that doesn't really excel in any area. I recommend buying the Romancing SaGa 2 remake instead, it's developed by the other creator of Final Fantasy and it's WAY higher quality.

@@hoppie4263 I mean, I don't think voice acting is automatically going to fix the problems with the game. It's sadly just not really an engaging or memorable RPG, I'd equate it to those super average Tokyo RPG Factory. It's like an RPG without much soul.

Wasn't familiar with this game before hand, but it I really like some of the mechanics I see, especially how curving certain abilities works. Glad others pointed out the diorama usage for the sets too, I didn't know why I appreciated the style so much, but I think that's why.
