My God, this is absolutely gorgeous, and there's something so special about all the characters being high fidelity sprites instead of 3d models. And I'm not even a big Dragon Quest fan!
Um. I think you mean high definition. Fidelity means either:
• faithfulness to a person, cause, or belief, demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support.
OR
• sexual faithfulness to a spouse or partner.
It could also mean “the degree of exactness with which something is copied or reproduced.” But that honestly doesn’t make any sense when you’re referring to sprites in a video game…. I highly suggest picking up some actual books. And perhaps a dictionary.

Given the surprise and uneeded hackjobs SE has made to recent remakes (Chrono Cross, Live a Live, etc.) I'd hold off on that.
They unfortiently replaced Toriyama with a New artist I think its the person who did Octopath.

Day one! 1+2 also in 2025! Any fan of JRPG should buy it. DQ3 was first chronologically and also very important game in the series, as it implemented many iconic mechanics in the series.

@@MagicalWendy I typically reccomend playing Dragon Quest 1 and 2 first, but you totally can just jump into 3, (Or any Dragon Quest game for that matter), at worst you'll miss some cool callbacks.

This HD-2D style has so much potential. Golden Sun, Breath of Fire, Final Fantasy Tactics could all explode as remakes modernised in this style

Just realize that while Dragon Quest I seems extremely short and primitive in comparison (no matter how nice they make it look) it's one of the most charming and pleasant times ever in more recent versions and I have no doubt this remake will make that even more true. Dragon Quest II, though, is legendary for its absolutely insane difficulty that has been toned down a bit on every remake (the currently available version on Switch is much less painful than the NES and GBC versions were) and I'm sure will be toned down a bit more here but DQ II is no joke.

Anyone else in the "I recognize every single one of these moments" club? The new takes on the environments seem all rock solid. Romaly and the Elf village look great!
I've never played these older one's except when I played a bit of DQ1 on my phone, though I don't really count that. But I main Arusu in Smash so I already love his character. I also watched the Your Story movie that lots of people apparently hated but I loved it! It just makes me excited for a DQ5 HD-2D remake!

Im certainly in the club, but I have been playing dq3 since the OG release on NES and recently finished a playthough of the SFC version a couple days ago. Such a great game! The orochi battle looks awesome in this video!
I just played this game for the first time this year on the Switch, and having finished it last week I can say that I recognized almost every scene. It very quickly became my favorite NES game that I have ever played, and I know this remake will make it even better.
They just need this for every single Pokémon game from Gen 1 - Gen 7
Good idea. There was a fan game of the original Pokemon Red and Blue where the art style resembled that of Ken Sugimori's watercolor art. It's just gorgeous honestly, but imagine the battle system is gonna be like in that style.

Only if the gen 3 games have all of the content that the gba versions have without the need for Nintendo events and a remake of Colosseum and XD that is able to connect to the gen 3 games. Otherwise its a waste of time.

@@panligero If you care that much then you can wait until 1 and 2 release, then play 3. But you're practically ruining your experience by doing this, because they're releasing 3 first on purpose. They know it's the best way to play the trilogy, so don't let a "chronological release order" or "the numbers in the title" ruin your experience.
DQ 1&2 getting the same treatment definitely got my attention and that convinced me to get 3 when it comes out to experience the whole story.

Toriyama would be so proud and smiling down from heaven to see DQ 1,2 and 3 in its HD-2D remakes for all of us to experience. This was the moment, including myself went nuts.. I couldn't hold back my tears. It's a day one purchase for me. Just bought the original last month. Guess, I'm gonna get it again
If it makes you feel any better, they were pretty far along in development before his passing, so there's a good chance he was at least passingly familiar with them.
I'm sure he knew of it, and was proud that his work will live on for many generations.
DQ3 is my favorite game of all time. Truly changed my life. I'm so happy to see an update for the remake after all that has happened...
I think 4 and 5 are better than 3 but that's no shot at 3. It's an incredible game.
The first time I played the DS version of 4 (first time I played any version of it) I was literally just breathless that that sort of plot could've existed on the NES (even cleaned up the way the DS did you could see its NES DNA). 3 is a pretty incredible milestone, though. I've always liked it.
@@pattersong6637I think it's more like 3 has more sentimental value for me personally. It was the first DQ game I played. In terms of objectively, 4 and 5 are probably better. You're right, how they crammed the scenario of 4 into NES blows my mind. I absolutely loved it when I first played it on the DS. 5 is also one of my favorite ones (in the top 5 DQ games imo). The storyline there is heartwrenching, and I loved collecting monsters.
@@lanc2776I can agree there. Even though the later DQ games might be better in terms of mechanics & other features it adds, I still love 3 the most and I replayed it more than other DQ games. Maybe it's because it has an perfect length, I prefer the world settings, environments & more engaging adventure in 3 more, the sentimental value and the gameplay that still holds up remarkably well. I love every Dragon Quest games. But I will always come back to 3 more if I wonna feel cozy & enjoy the sentiments there.

@@shanemiller1182I would like a new port of 7 and 8 that isn't stuck on the 3ds. I can see 9 getting a remake with new online features but probably not until later. 10 is the MMO but it hasn't even made it overseas yet.
4, 5, 6, and 7 need this the most since those games can't be bought anymore unless you're on mobile (and 7 is only mobile in Japan so it can't be bought anywhere outside of it). 8 could get a modern port with HD visuals. 9 also needs a remake but idk if i want it to be HD-2D.
4, 5, and 6 need this treatment. 7 and 8 should just have their 3DS versions cleaned up and HD-ified. The 3DS versions of 7 and 8 are perfectly good, they just need a facelift for modern consoles.
It amazes me how each HD2D game looks that much better than the previous one.
I genuinely wish all the best classic 2D games got this treatment, DQ, FF, Pokemon, etc.

I hope DQ1+2 are improved upon in quality of life stuff… if they’re going to take the trouble to remake them in HD2D, they’re gonna need some light mechanical overhaul and some improved dialogue, etc
I feel like 2 has aged the worst imo. 1 is very much a product of its time, but the scope and scale of it are so much smaller than anything else in the series that it works for what it is, including the need to map out dungeons and the such. But 2 finds itself in an awkward spot between this 1 and 3 mechanically.

When I heard the original Dragon Quest theme at the end, I actually cried. These 3 games are a few of my all-time favorites. I'm hoping Monster Medal collection will be back. Easily my favorite feature in DQ/DW 3 GBC version.

OMG, I never imagined that any video game would ever be remade in 2D, but this looks totally sweet! I really like the Dragon Quest series, but I’ve only ever played Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, which I love very much! I really want to start playing other Dragon Quest games, and I’m thinking of getting the 3DS remakes of Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King! I’d also really love to get this game and the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest I and II! I also really want Dragon Quest IX to get a remake and Dragon Quest X to be released here in America someday! I do wish that more of the Dragon Quest games let us choose the hero’s gender, though! I do know that you can have the hero from Dragon Quest III be female, and I really hope that that’ll stay in the HD-2D remake! I just can’t wait for it to be released! Dragon Warrior was the very first RPG I ever played, as a six year old back in 1990. I am beyond stoked for this, but also, curious if they're going to add anything to the original game, since it is incredibly basic by today's standards.
The original is always there to be played, so I certainly would be interested to see what developers could add to it to give it a level of gameplay depth that is at least on par with the 2nd game, if not the 3rd.
I hope there is a new wish to resurrect Toriyama Akira after beating the post-game boss of DQ3 :(

It brings a tear to my eye to see how far Dragon Quest in the west has come. It has grown. Mainly thanks to Dragon Quest 11 and hero being in smash. Back then, only a few would know it by name, and fewer would have experienced it. But now its growing, and it will continue to grow.
My first was dq (can't remember the number) Chapters of the Chosen on the ds and I was hooked ever since. Favorite was Hand of the Heavenly Bride.
Chapters of the Chosen was DQIV, and yeah, great game

Lol you young ones might not be aware, but people have known about DQ for a long time n teh west. Nintendo Power was giving free copies of DQ1 with a subscription, so almost everyone one I knew growing up who had an NES had DQ1 (well Dragon WARRIOR 1) The problem was, for some reason, DQ never caught on here, there was almost no advertising for it here, compared to Final Fantasy, Ultima, Crystalis which was advertised everywhere and constantly talked about in magazine articles.
I didnt even know that DQ2 3 and 4 were being released until they showed up on the shelves of the local video rental store.

I love EVERYTHING about it BUT those first-person battles :(. It is quite disappointed to see those beautiful 2d battle models when choosing attacks to then move to a first-person screen with no model nor animation at all, just vfx effects.

Nope. DQ3 is releasing this November. DQ1 and DQ2 are a separate package releasing sometime next year.
@@Jenema2 they probably were working on both for a year back to back after the first footage for 3 and probably decided to do the other 2 later on after some positive reception. there are some locations that do return in each game so they are all linked not just narratively but software, tech etc

Boss Troll:
Hero survives Boss Troll crit
110+ HP Mage
200+ HP Priest
Whoever was collecting footage for this trailer was CRIMINALLY overleveled for those parts of the game. Those stats on the Boss Troll part are high enough to beat Baramos or even Zoma.
Also, the Abilities tab did not exist in prior versions.
actually those stats are way too LOW even on the Switch collection without access to at least 1 user of the FULL party Defense up boost spell I could easily have it kill anybody in 1 hit with the 3 non hero's at lv 40+ with all but the FINAL white/mage spells usable on the 3 Non hero's its a total joke to kill WITH OVER 300 + HP and just as much MP.
On the Switch port in order to have a 100% RUN away rate on the way to Zoma final dungeon you needed at least a MINIMUM lv of lv 85 despite Zoma being beatable EASILY BY LV 60.
@@veghesther3204 On non-NES versions, Baramos is doable as low as Lv30 with some luck, can be done reliably at Lv35. Zoma is doable at Lv40 with good strategy, no need to grind that much.
Also crits ignore your defense, so having good armor or spamming Upper/Increase will not help you.

I've been looking forward to this gloriously revamped remake of Dragon Quest III after playing DQ11 on Switch from beginning to end! I'm also excited for the upcoming DQ1&2 HD-2D remake as well! =D If only Toriyama and Sugiyama were here to witness this... =')
I see complaints about the male & female "change", but I'm more offended by them changing the troll's design. That is Toriyama's original design. Changing it after he died is super disrespectful.

Totally stoked for this and the 1&2 remakes. Please let there be a PHYSICAL RELEASE for this. I had to import a physical copy of Infinity Strash from Japan. I doubt if I imported this, it would include English language options.

This looks a lot like Octopath Traveller 2, you can tell they were inspired by it and games like it.
This game refuses to acknowledge basic human anatomy. It does not recognise 'men' or 'woman'. Only BODY TYPE A and BODY TYPE B lmao
I used to rent DQ3 and 4 from a local Movie Gallery. When NES renting dried up, they sold their stock unexpectedly and without notice. At the time ENIX had headquarters in the US. My parents wrote them to see about purchasing DQ2-4 from them as a Christmas present. One of the representatives not only found copies, used but in perfect condition, they also photo-copied the instruction manual for 4, which if you know how long that item was you know how much time they put into it (it served as a guide). They also wrote my a personal letter to thank me for enjoying the series. I'm 42 now, these games have stuck with me for a long time, and seeing them come to a new generation of players makes me hope that others can experience the same kinds of memories they helped me build all those years ago.

Just a heads up: if you guys are fed up with the gender ideology thing or just the principle of Sweet Baby being behind this but still want to play the games, you can get “Dragon Quest 1+2+3 Collection” online for no more than $50. Yeah, not the best way to play them in terms of age, but that saves you a crap ton of money too instead of paying like $200 for all 3 games

@TheLarkaanimation No Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Pikmin 4 and Dragon Quest 11 and Yoshi’s Crafted World and Princess Peach Showtime ran well on the Switch while when they were created by using Unreal Engine 4.
It’s because Square Enix didn’t even use separate 64 gigabyte game cards for each of the Kingdom Hearts games,
So they started slacking off and used Ubitis.
But then you have to play the crappy mobile versions. May as well be telling people to off themselves at that point.
You can tell this person has zero knowledge on the DQ series. I bet he can't even name the differences between the NES and mobile versions without looking it up lol
@@gamerrrdude4405 Literally just play the NES version if you are desperate to not play this version. It's been re-released before.
But at some point you have to question, why do you even own a Switch if this bothers you? Nintendo has eliminated acknowledging gender from many games that used to this generation (Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, etc) and it doesn't look like it's slowing down. At some point, it may be time to give up and just sell your Switch if one can't handle this very minor change.
But then theres many franchises not on Nintendo that are doing it, like Soulsborne with Elden Ring...
