I do quite like the livery idea. At the end of the day it is now a ‘private owner’ wagon, with that owner being you, so the idea of putting your advertisements on the side of the van whilst using its original number does make very good sense. Plus, the CVR is now your base so adding that ‘return to’ bit all ties it together. I did like the idea of going for RNAD livery but this is far better!

Thanks for the comments regarding the livery, I’m really pleased that everyone seems to like it so far, it will look great once painted I hope!

Besides the irony of having the Royal Naval Mine & Bomb Disposal squad roll up in their Land Rover due to reports of an RN explosives van would be mildly unnerving. Although once explained they may view it as a cushy excursion to their day.

Liking the idea of sign writing the van. Has the private owner look of old but with a modern name.
Looling forward to seeing the progress on both projects Ollie.

I notice it's an LNER box van. If you contact the NRM at Shildon (spiritual home of LNER Wagon Works) no doubt they can supply nomenclature for the parts you are maintaining.

The 'tails' are possibly really called wicks! (like in a paraffn lamp) - I did like that con-rod-less 060 (Austerity?) disguised as a corrugated iron shed!

Great going Ollie. Are the heads of the bolts on the axle boxes about an inch and a quarter or inch and a half? Handy to have the spanner in the ruler pocket of the boiler-suit. Glad to see and hear the bearings and journals are looking and sounding in good nick. It's one memory of being around the (nearest)local yard we picked the coal up from, the smell of the oil. Nothing flapped about when you were moving it and it looked to be sound. Here's all power to your collective elbows at the Colne Valley. Cheers!
(P.S. There is maybe a 'railway vernacular' word for the Wicks in the Axle-Boxes, but I don't know it! Wicks.)
(You'll know about 'Wheel-Tapping' and why it was done, yes? A tap with a hammer to hear it ring like a bell, to check for cracks in the wheels; that was done regularly on the fast express services but I can just see the Yard Apprentice being sent out on a soggy day, to go check the wheels of the wagons if the wagon-shop wasn't busy, on a big depot or yard!)

Always a good idea to chalk the dates on when the axles were oiled just incase it needs to be moved again. Plus it might help you in identifying if one of the axle boxes is leaking oil.
The livery looks incredible as well can you put if empty return to Wardle Road on the chassis I wonder?

love your series for both the brake van and box van how do they both ride are they look like they rool smooth being moved about the yard and for your livery maybe have your logo with the train on the top left or right to promote your channel would be awesome to do with your livery set up that way when in use on photo charters and such your brakevan and box van will be noticed right away by fans of your channel. Keep at it so far very well and thought out.

Hi Chris, thanks for the kind words, both the brake van and the box van run nice an smooth, although as you'll find out in a future episode, there's a couple of issues to be sorted with the brake vans brakes!

With hotter weather approaching, may I kindly suggest you take a break for a few weeks? Summertime is holiday time. I can see you need to get away from it all for a week or two. The Summer Holidays are on the horizon, and, believe me, you won't want to work in Summertime Heat. It can make you feel sleepy and agitated. We all need a holiday. Get a change of scenery, watch the trains go by at Dawlish or something. Enjoy the naughty but nice treat of chip shop style fish and chips, with icy cold water to keep yourself hydrated. That's more important now. You can go back to working on the brake van when Autumn comes.
