That diesel looks rather *devious* if you ask me. I think it would be best to *dodge* it if it was *ten* inches away from you. I couldn't *bear* to think what would happen if you didn't.
Diesels from Thomas and Friends: “We diesels are Revolutionary, turn on a button and we’re off, no fuss getting us started” But it’s not true at all, well in some ways yes, it doesn’t take 4 hours to get a diesel ready. But it takes it time to start up itself.
@@CurdsFromDaCulvers420 to correct myself here, the oldest locos to use this body type is the class 12, built from 1945-1952, making the oldest one 76 years old this year (depending whether it’s still around)
Those things sound very similar to the ALCo s-2 diesel switchers and rs-1 locomotives we have where I live in America. My local railroad museum, the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum has two ex-US Army s-2s, three 6-axle US Military rs-1s, and one 4-axle civilian rs-1. We had 08895 at Penzance Vacuum only until about 1979, then 08641 dual braked for many years working 24 hrs a day except for Sunday night. It started work again at 0400 hrs Sunday morning and ran for 24 hrs again until the following Sunday. Never let us down.
well done .another 08 saved.great paint job.regular maintenance will keep this loco going for ages. all i have is a bachmann 00 gauge 08 but she is great.
@Goldfish thats fair enough.i hate all these new 800 series emus that run out of paddington and kings x, yuk !they dont even look like train, iron board seats etc what next
Great. Mind if I ask a really stupid question? If this class was what Awdry based "Devious" diesel on, why did Britt Allcroft give him and others a metallic sounding Hum than the DC sound that these had?
I could be mistaken but These arent diesel electric, they are diesel mechanical engines with a fluid coupling ie sorta like a truck with a transmission. Diesel electrics have that hum because the diesel engine powers an alternator and creates electricity to turn the electric drive motors.
the Class 08 and its siblings are an British icon of British Railways. They should have a new BR logo with the Class 08 in the wheel that the Lionel stands over.
How did you start the engine without someone being in the cab holding the start lever in? Also, any suggestions for starting our 08 loco in the cold weather (D3167). All the batteries are good, and I've now got arms like popeye pumping the oil pressure up twice today, but the best we get is just a lazy grown as it turns a couple of pots, and then stops.
Looks like about 6 o'clock in the morning and the baysterds in the houses behind will not be best pleased, even if they here the engineer shouting 'Nice one kel' or nice one 'bud'.

That's what I like to see ...shunters being restored not seeing them roting away in a abandoned siding or in a locomotive grave yard
+Anthony Smith oh yh i forgot the n ....oops
how does something rote?
@@AnnoyingBastsardonSteam rot?
Come to Doncaster there's about 4 working
If you mean rot then it rusts away?
Gotta love these old style diesels. They at least had some charm to them, especially the Deltic.
Wow the paint job and condition is absolutely gorgeous.
It was until the fitters started slamming the panels and putting their grubby boots all over it!
@TheGan
no its not anyway its not a locomotive it's a shunter....
Guess you are not too good at train spotting
@Anonymous then why are you here
Still the best shunter for British conditions..... And a typical EE start, one pot at a time. Love EEs, the Diesel Drama Queens!!!
Dream of mine to visit the UK someday and see locomotives like these in person. Until then, thank you for videos like these :)

Great video. The class 08s are great shunters. You can find them everywhere. On heritage railways and on the mainline.
Thanks for stating the bleeding obvious.
I love the bass from the stereo!!! Good video

O hai, Devious Diesel.
I like the livery.
Thanks, I painted the wasp stripes.
+dieselmupke really?!
Why do the tickover revs go up and down? Thats a "counterweight governor" or something?
Its just hunting because its cold and because they have a massive diesel engine. So their idle is really low and clunky

Have you had your telegram from the Queen yet
I'm sure it's due
If it was just overhauled, why couldn't they just start it normally ?
Because you can’t change the start up process on any vehicle. This is just how the Class 08, 09, 12 and probably others start their engines.
They don't start easily due to the lack of any preheating arrangements.

what engine do we have here? a v8 seems to be hunting
