    It is always very sad to see a completely empty shed like Landore's. It is comforting to know that the adventure continues elsewhere and that enthusiasts will always be able to admire these machines. Thank you Bob for this report. Diolch i Bob am yr adroddiad hwn. Philippe

    When I turned 18 I got injured and biofused into a uk shunter diesel and my face looks exactly like diesel from Thomas and friends

    Very sad to see the end of an era, Bob, but at least it is going to a good home. It looks as if it has been kept in very smart condition and I hope it runs well....Mervyn

    Well done for capturing a historic railway event at both sites Bob. I remember landore as a trainspotter when i was a teenager. Sad to see the last of the depot but good news that the Class 08 has a new home. Regards, Jeff.

      It is sad Jeff, a fortune was spent on a New Depot for the IET's near to High Street Station in Swansea, then it was decided that the electrification would not go West of Cardiff...so it was decided with the withdrawal of HST's, that Landore had to be closed.....Regards...Bob

    Amazing how clean and tidy they left the depot; I noticed that when I was there for the last HSTs

    A real beauty! Locs like this were used after the war in the Netherlands. They started my love for the railways. There is still one active at Amersfoort.

    As a Shunter at Penzance we had an 08 from Swansea in the late 70s / 80s 08895 or 08641 or 08644 can’t remember which one. The first was Vacuum only, the other two were dual braked.

      It was painted in this livery by Landore Depot Alistair, and ironically, it is back with them on loan for a while.

    Nice one Bob. 87E was an evocative shed plate in steam days. Landore Castles were extremely rare where I lived and, as far as I can remember, could be easily spotted coming towards you, as their buffers were usually painted white or silver. Regards, Dave.

      Well remembered Dave, the buffers were in fact painted White and were the trade mark of Area Manager Roy White..a wonderful and well respected man, often seen strolling around his patch in a Bowler Hat.

    In late March 2021 the loco made an unlikely return to Landore Depot, where it would once again become the depot pilot, this time on hire to Chrysalis Rail.

    Landore shed closed? Good Lord! Has Swansea railway station closed also? What about the goods yard that was there?

      Swansea High Street is still there, the Goods shed has long closed and was demolished, and there is now a New depot at Maliphant to service the new IET Fleet of units that have replaced the HST sets.

      @@robmasterman It has been 14 years since I lived in Swansea (and the UK). Things seem to have changed somewhat. I visited in 2016 for my mum's funeral. I noticed St Helen's Rd had gone from looking downbeat to looking like al Quaeda had taken over

      It had a major overhaul in 2014, and hasn't done much work since. It needs a few parts to make it fully operational.

      @@microbusss voltage regulator was missing, the M8 brake valve had seized completely, suspension needs adjusting & the batteries need a decent charge. at this current time only the latter 2 is left to complete

      It's not been shipped away, due to the Closure of Landore Depot in Swansea it now resides at the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Heritage Centre.

    Sad history like most former depots , stop all the clocks moment i feel , no doubt housing , railway station and just memories of class 37 allocation , 03s ,08s 47s all just memories playing around the preservation sites and landore depot now gone

    If it was Scrapped. That would have also been okay. Its a Machine. While yes its great to see since many People worked on it. But think of it this Way, the way of the Organisation.
    This is Part of a Long Forgotten Operation. It costs Money to keep as it Chugs Diesel Fuel Like a Champ! If you scrap it. No Money will be lost, but you rather Gain Money from selling Metal Maybe

      When you are involved with any piece of machinery, you become emotionally attached to it, hence the strong feelings that are felt towards locomotives, seeing them evokes happy memories, which in these depressing times, can only be a good thing.

      Goodness me, compared to the engine shunting it, that class 08 is a beast. It's just about as big as the truck that delivered it without the trailer
