- In this video we compare 4 different ways to achieve a custom metallic rustoleum paint job. It will help you figure out the best way to make your own custom metallic color using rustoleum. We will still continue top coating because it seems to give the best results for the look we prefer. we definitely do NOT recommend putting pearls and flake directly into rustoleum unless you like wasting money, getting a rougher finish, and not seeing much if any metallic qualities. If you insist on mixing metallics directly into rustoleum it is better to mix some krylon clear tintable base into the rustoleum to make it semi-transparent, but it still buries a lot of the particles.
