the difference in the delivery of "the animal that doesn't winds up someone else's lunch" in 'how bad can i be' and 'biggering' is astronomical. in "how bad can i be," it sounds goofy but in this it sounds downright horrifying, and honestly it sucks we didn't get what the screenwriters actually wanted to make because it's so much more convicting

If I remember correctly, "I don't want to hear your crying" is also in How Bad Can I Be, but it's sung in a much less... intense way. Hell, I think it's just spoken.
High-key the best part of streaming services is that they could throw together a film based on the original plan for the Lorax, and if they actually go ham on the music budget I'm 100% sure if they go with clean story boards poeple wouldn't be mad.
Like they just make it and sell it to all the streaming services for how it took to make the film and they would make back their film multiple times over

This feels like a song which would be in a 90s Disney movie, back when kids movies weren't afraid to go dark to help get points across. A shame that now it's just about how many can watch it.
That feel when Illumination of all companies makes a villain song not only on par with classic Disney, but exceeds most of them, and then just cuts it entirely in favour of something “investor safer”
What's weirder is if you listen to the original songs they make all the Characters sound and look so different then what we got. So we would've gotten a slightly more mature movie judging from the old soundtrack. And O'hare sounded like an actual threat instead of a joke.
@@fitzgeraldsatori-gameplayi5552 woah we definitly need a remake that would make the movie better than someone who sells air and thats it but if he still sold it then he could cut off people's supply whenever he wanted and thats how he gets the murders done and he could write it off as a power mistake.
1:17 Nine years later and this part STILL gives me chills. God I wish they had kept this in. How Bad Can I Be wasn't terrible, per se, but this is on a whole other level.
I can’t handle the *experience* of reading the title and description whilst “Biggering” plays in the background, and all the while, the onceler is smirking at me
People often criticize this movie for giving the Once-ler a face and giving him more of a background, which is completely fair, but this song goes to show that this reinterpretation of the character had the potential to be good if only they had committed to the dark tone shown here. If this were the Once-ler we would have had, I think people would have been much more willing to accept it deviating a little from the source material.
It'd also show that no matter your background you can end up selfish greedy and egotistical. This Onceler definitely could've worked if they stuck with the original draft of the movie
I can't remember where or who said it, but I've seen a few YT comments that suggest a really interesting idea for what they could've done. In the beginning of the movie, the Once-Ler is shown in full, with a face and everything, just as he is in the actual movie. However, over the course of How Bad Can I Be (or in an ideal world, Biggering), we gradually see less and less of his body, until by the end of the song, it's just the gloves, just like it was in the book. I feel like this would achieve the best of both worlds - Giving him a face and a body at first would show that this could indeed happen to any normal person, then by the end, the lack of any identifiable or visible face displays the notion that power corrupts, and that people's values can be eroded down by greed until they aren't "just" a person anymore, they are the corporate monster. They are the problem.
If ever, for some strange, random reason, I become rich, famous and powerful, the first thing I’m doing is buying the rights to the lorax and this song to finally give the world the movie we all deserve.
Realistically it wouldn't exist because in THIS song the Onceler's actions are entirely built on selfish desire, instead of pressure from his family. He's much less sympathetic, but also a lot more believable, with his reason for expanding the company being "I need a bigger office, and I need a bigger chair". The Onceler Fandom came into being because they made him too lovable, the movie largely ignoring a big part of what makes corporate CEOs so detestable. It's not that they're in denial about the morality of their actions like "How Bad Can I Be" suggests, it's often that they just DON'T CARE.
@@ethanrapp6998 No no, but a lot of the Oncelerfandom was made because the Onceler is extremely cute (I guess???) and I can’t say his looks would ever change and plus this would simply be more fuel for like.. cringy “I’m not like other girls, I love the edgy Onceler cuz I’m just as edgy” energy type stuff. Sure it started with him being obliviously likable in the current rendition but I refuse to believe it was because of that and that alone, and not also the fact that everyone thinks he’s cute
@@TheAmorable I mean I guess it's a good point. I can think of several characters in media that people like because they're despicable, but fun to watch asshats. (Reaver, Bill Cypher, every classic Disney villain, ect.) I’m in love with the “Biggering” Onceler not the “How Bad Can I Be?” Onceler. He’s got some strong vibes that I would’ve loved to see more expanded on.
This is so ironic.. the song talking about killing things for money... This song was scrapped Because even though it told the message of the lorax and the greed of the world incredibly well, it was "too real" for children. So they swapped it out. So they would make more money. 🤦🏽
Its probably because it would be hypocritical for illumination of all animations studios to add such a realisting view on corporate greed, which is exactly what they are.
"the company is an animal. that's trying to survive. it's struggling and fighting, just to keep it itself alive." I love this line so much because of how humanizing it is. It makes us see that through the onceler's eyes, his company deserves to live and flourish just like the animals that (used to) reside in the fields.
He’s also victimizing the company, framing it as a poor weak animal that NEEDS to do what it does just to stay alive, when that’s not true, it’s perfectly fine, but he just wants to continue biggering
This movie really shouldn't be happy. In the original, the book ends with a super ambiguous note and doesn't promise anything. Just a single seed, but at the same time who knows if he plants it, or even if he plants it will it grow properly? Will something happen to that seedling? Etc., etc. This song definitely sounds appropriate based on how inevitable it sounds, like some massive, surging tidal wave of industry sweeping over you. It's unstoppable once it's begun, and the only thing you can do is just hold on and pick up the pieces afterwards.
@@hiiloveu1521 This becomes more depressing when you hear the deleted songs and the concept art implying that the writers wanted to be faithful to the book, had good ideas for the plot but Illumination forced them to make the plot we got, wasted potential
I absolutely love the solo at 1:38! It just goes very high and ends abruptly, like an industrial machine stopping because the very last batch of material has finished manufacturing. It's sort of obvious after you know how the story goes, and that's why I love it. Edit: Aside that, I just love the song! It has that raw and industrial feeling that matches well with the story. If this was just the original demo, what would a finished version sound like if it hadn't been scrapped?
honestly that one line being changed shows the major difference between these songs, biggering shows a legitimate threat to nature and society as a whole while how bad can i be downplays it and makes it seem like the onceler isnt that bad
I think they should have used both Have Biggering be a dark reprise/answer to How bad can I be Biggering supports the message better if they make the Onceler more relatable first to show that "people like you can do things this bad" Or since the flashback is a story being told by the Onceler he wants to make himself look good at first, blaming his family and claiming ignorance with HBCIB then later in the movie we see Biggering is what actually happened

Cinema at its finest
This song had no fucking reason to slap as much as it does.
In summary, the film could have been incredible if it had kept the original script and the demo songs with their original ideas.
@@JellyFishGellBasically, power corrupts. No matter who you are.

Imagine the Oncelerfandom if this was the actual song of the film..
@@TheAmorable I mean I guess it's a good point. I can think of several characters in media that people like because they're despicable, but fun to watch asshats. "the company is an animal.

I love this line so much because of how humanizing it is.

It's funny, it's been so long since I've watched the Lorax and listening to this song I assumed this was actually in the movie. That being said I guess it doesn't seem like a different tone to the rest of the movie so I guess I could see why it didn't make it in.
That being said with western animated films starting to embrace a slightly darker tone (spiderverse and puss in boots) I wonder if a darker lorax could work as a movie. I mean it's not like global warming and environmental issues have lessened significantly to not still be an important message.
Fr, didn't knew you liked this song too. W
The lorax was originally meant to be a much darker film one that actually respected its source material but illumination wanted a movie that would appeal to more people and thereby bring in more profits so it ended up being changed to what we have now
@@faresalsayed9005 Listening to the demos of the songs (not only Biggering was removed) gives you an idea of what the movie was originally going to be like.
Bruh I miss the well written villain songs like hellfire 😭
@@mer6264 We could have had another villain song at the level of Hellfire but Illumination snatched from us what could have been
they rlly dropped the best villain song in cinematic history and didn't even use it in the movie
The audacity to take this eargasmic experience away from us
This climax together with the steampunk background and the dark landscape would have given the kids nightmares. Exactly what you want for this kind of movie.
I adore the line "who cares if some things are dying". It's like the whole song has been building up for that line.
Me, alone in my house: I DON"T WANA HEAR YOUR CRYYINNN- *my vocal chords snap from trying to get the vocal fry thing*
I can sing along to Disney/musical songs fine but I joke you not, this song is a lot more difficult to sing than one might think.
@@absolite6 THEN HOW THE FUCK CAN I SING THIS WITH EASE
@@limespots Meth?
@@absolite6 I wish, I can sing this song easily if I drink water
I can't be the only one who's let quarantine get to myself so badly that I've started to relive the crush I had on the Onceler.
its because of this song... right?
i really like the lines "And the customers are buying, and the money multiplying, and the PR people lying, and the lawyers are denying! Who cares if some things are dying! I don't wanna hear your crying!" it just sounds like the part of the song that just has the most emotion put into those words, and really feels like the climax of the song
I think it's funny that the song about knowingly being a terrible, harmful company was removed by Illumination. It's like a self fulfilling prophecy.
I wish Lorax was actually a rock opera, rather than a generic pop-y mess.
i hate how GOOD this song is like i literally listen to it unironically 😭
ikr WHY DID THEY CUT IT sure it talks abt companies just wanting money and that is bad so they probably cut it for that but WHY!
Bro same and I don't even LIKE this movie 😭
How
there are very few songs in this world that really pull me in deep with its meanings and instrumentals and this has got to be on the top of the list. seriously.
every change in the backing vocals and instruments and the final bridge just all comes together and you can feel every single movement in the song. i don't know if i'm even making sense at this point but holy shit does this go hard.
the last notes at the end being light and soft contrast with the rest of the song and it works so well because you're kinda being pulled back to reality.
and the guitar solos god don't get me started on the guitar solos i am frothing at the mouth
@@poptartcatz4032 On your last point, someone did make a storyboard of this song and as it comes to an end Once-ler finally looks at the destroyed valley with a look of horror and realization of what he's done.
and it’s JUST A DEMO. imagine if it was allowed to be a full fleshed version
we can all agree that how bad can i be is good but DAMN this song SLAPS.
Imagine how much more tumblr would’ve gone after this man if this was the song in the movie
The simple part of this version “who cares if some things are dying” compared to “who cares if a few *trees* are dying” speaks volumes in the sense that the Oncler, consumed by his own greed and pride, does not know the full effect of his actions and is still trying to justify his actions by undermining them.
