BIG CUBES, SMALL CAM, HUGE TORQUE

- The 131ci Stage 4 kit from Screamin' Eagle paired with the CR 483 from Alpha Performance Engine proved to be a very STOUT combo with the V&H Big Radius 2-2 Exhaust system.
Providing instant & broad torque across the entire RPM range where, lets face it, we spend 80% of the time (between 2000 & 4000rpm) this combo has it all.
If a set of Sharp Curve Radius or even the Radical Radius system from FREEDOM Exhausts been used the peak HP number would have jumped up into the mid 140s with the torque staying pretty much where it is now.
This bike looks absolutely brilliant in person, the video doesn't do it justice!
There is a lot going on with this bike & still more to come with lots more accessories, bling & bars!
The comp ratio of the SE 131ci Kit sits at roughly 10.7:1 which is more than enough for these 'shorter' cam applications but slightly too low for some of the bigger 500+ lift cams out there which is why almost always I up the comp ratio to 12.0:1 when guys are wanting those larger lift cams.
I recently completed a 131ci build with 12.0:1 comp pistons & a CR515 cam with FREEDOM 2-2 Sharp Curve Radius pipes that produced just over 150hp & 15-ft/lbs of torque.
I will post updates to the bike on my Instagram page (link below) I post there a little more regularly on there then here to stay up to date there too.
Leave any questions in the comments & I will get back to you as soon as possible.

You are a master at your craft Sir, lovely numbers and the bike ended up show and go which is kinda hard to achieve. Looks and sounds great.
Thanks for watching 👍
Always enjoy what you're building. Love that massive chop sound. Thank you for sharing these builds and your knowledge.
Glad you enjoy it!
Yeah top job Tommy, that Breakout sounds amazing mate.
Can imagine how well this bike performs. My 107 with the CR483 is awsome and the sound with the Freedom radius pipes is great too. Love these videos. 👍

Hi 👋, I am new to your channel, awesome content, great that you show assembly, as best as you could, Great looking and selling pipes,
But I have always been into two into ones , I Pass my bike test in the late 60 in the uk , I am on my 4th HD 1200 sportster , FXR , then I purchased a new DEUCE back in 2000, upgrades to 1550 , sadly I had to sell it in 2019, 48,T + , I had been scammed by my ex female partner,
So I moved to France, I have just bought a 2003 DEUCE, it needs a lot of work on it, it hasn’t been written for as part of a year,
At least it will give me something to do ,
Look forward to seeing some more of your up-and-coming reviews and upgrades , I do wish I was back at work and need some pennies,

Hopefully you'll be back on the bike asap!

Great video, awesome bike and nice work on the build, that cam is awesome as its the same I have had fitted a couple of weeks ago in my Breakout, pulls like a train. The guys at Darling Downs Harley are a great team.
Thanks for watching mate. Glad you're happy with your choice of cam.
Enjoy
You have been quiet Tommy, was getting worried, hope you are well !

gotta love that 483 chop , puts a smile on my face every time i ride
It's a winner!
awesome build I bet that bike is a thrill to ride
That is a work of art. Beautiful iron horse
I am constantly told two into one exhaust is better for torque and horsepower but I to have the big radius V&H on my stage II, I just like the look and sound, form over function I guess, nice build!!!
Finally a video!!! YES!
Thanks for watching & being patient
It's a runner!!! Great job Tommy 👏

@@MasterTechMiller you ever get the cam switched out on your bike?
@@benslocum7412 sure did! It got put in yesterday. I am sitting on the bike as I write this comment about to start dyno tuning it.
@MasterTechMiller awesome. I'm excited to see what it does now

The baseline curve is gorgeous holy crap
Love the content and checking in from time to time for some inspiration….you’ve got this performance thing locked down 🤘 congrats on hitting 10k!!
It’s interesting to see someone else’s process for building a motor being a master tech myself, which leads me to one question…I noticed you used blue loctite instead of red on the cam gear bolt and the pinion gear bolt, is there any specific reason? Keep up the awesome work 🤘
Its more than capable of keeping it tight. In my 15 years I've only ever had 1 issue with a cam bolt. It had broken but I didn't work on that bike. It came in to us with a noise on the cam chest.
Not sure why it broke.
I've obviously done many cam swaps on bikes I've put cams into & every time I undo the bolts they're tight.
Seems like I remember there was a run of those cam retention kits that were breaking the cam bolt, we saw a few at our shop.
Cool, like I said it’s just interesting to see someone else’s process when building a motor. Keep killin it dude 🤘
Fun! Wrenching video. You've got another subscriber
Thank you
Question: going that deep into motor, why keep the chain drive if using an s&s crank assembly? would not think it was because of run out?
No benefit whatsoever from a gear driven cam set.
The argument about 'tighter timing' & the rest of it is just straight up nonsense.
The amount of stack up tolerances & deflection in the valve train renders that argument irrelevant.
As for the fact of wearing out chain tensioner shoes, well that too is just a selling point for gear driven cams to pounce on.
Regular servicing these chain driven sets last for over 100,000km.
There are many different conditions that may accelerate the wearing out of parts but I can you now, after 15 years with Harley's I've only has 1 issue with a cam chain breaking & it was on a stock Twincam.
Sure I've seen tensioner shoes wear out but those too where on the early Twincams with the spring loaded shoes.
Great video as always.
Another great video on a fantastic 131 build. Great cam choice.. great torque.. how would the CR 512 compare numbers wise
If I was to put the CR512 in this combo as it is, the peak HP numbers would be much the same due to the exhaust choice.
Good torque production and curve with a short 2-into-2 exhaust.
Can you explain (in small words for me please) the practical difference between the V&H Big Radius 2-2 Exhaust system and the Freedom Exhausts you mentioned that gives a boost in HP for the latter. On the outside, they look very similar: both 2 into 2, both short and that's about it.
The V&H Exhaust systems are 2 individual pipes.
The Freedom Exhaust systems have a balance pipe between then about 3/4 of the way down.
This balance gives an advantage similar to having a 2-1 system.
2:06 Supervising. Making sure the parts are treated right. 😂
Wow what a machine. I want to bring my Fat Boy from Melbourne VIC to you to get some work done. Thanks for these great videos.

Another awesome build with impressive numbers. The breakout is a brawler of a bike and that one has some major attitude
I really like that air cleaner too, which one is it?
The air filter is from RSD & the number is P02062144SMB
I could watch this shit all day. What's the best performing 2 into 1 pipe in your opinion ?
For the majority of builds the D&D Lowcat performs great!
If you have a really BIG hi comp big bore build your best options is a Burns
@@MasterTechMiller legend mate cheers... Look forward to future builds
The only way to build a harley engine. Huge torque in the useable rideable rev range . Forget about hp numbers in the top revs .
Absolutely 💯
I thought the 483 wouldn’t have enough lift for the 131. I’m happy I saw this because I too love the sound of the 483 and want a 131.
The 483 works great in 131 & 128 cube combos when low to mid range grunt is the goal. With a better exhaust system higher peak HP can be achieved
Hey mate are you a believer in external breathers for the air cleaner? Do you run them on your builds?
No. I prefer to just vent the trans cover. You can then decide to put normal bolts in place of where the breather bolts go & let it all breath through the trans cover.
Or, you cam vent the trans cover & leave the breather bolts installed as the vented trans cover relieves the pressure across the engine & greatly reduces the oil misuse recirculation
Thanks for your reply and tips 👍
hello, what about ride ability in the lower gears? Will this produce surging ?
This thing is still smooth as & very controlled at lower speeds & throttle positions.
Ok, you build some of the nicest!
Those wheels are nice, how expensive are they, great build yet again Mick
Not sure what the customer paid for the wheels? The rear is a genuine Turbine wheel out of the Screamin' Eagle catalogue & the front is a 23" Turbine replica.
@@MasterTechMiller thanks for replying so quickly 👍👍
I want one
Dude does quality work!
Cheers
Hey Tommy, what’s your experiences with fuel use after a cam and tune?
I’ve got a 117 CR483 and 6.2 injectors. Even when riding sedately I’m using about 9L/100km so would this be resolved through more tuning or is it just part and parcel with increased power.
That can 100% be fixed with a good dyno tune.
Where are you located?
That amount of fuel use seems very high
@@MasterTechMiller I’m in Sydney and a 20 hour round trip to come see you is a bit hard right now.. yes I expected it to be worse on fuel on if I was on it all the time but the same if not better when riding normally
@jamesp6128 yeah it shouldn't be much worse than stock tbh.
@@MasterTechMiller Hey Tommy, case solved! I installed baffles (VH Eliminator 300) after my initial tune and it was playing havoc with the AFRs hence the poor fuel economy! We got it dyno tuned again today, got ~10-15ft lbs between 2200 - 3500rpm (mainline dyno) and my AFRs are spot on again.
😮 good stuff 🤘 thanks 🔥
Nice 😂👏 rocket 3 torque there
In your opinion would it be a cheaper or more economic option to install the HD 135 crate engine, & selling the stock unused 117 , I've thought of doing this here in the UK 👍
Depending I suppose. I've never say down & worked out the numbers. I know for sure the SE 135ci Crate motor would need a cam swap in case to get close to this.
@@MasterTechMiller 👍👍👍
I don't think they have a 135 crate engine for a Softail yet.
@maveryckstevensonesq9397 lots of performance parts out there to make a beast of a motor
how ya reckon the 131 would go with the CR480 cam? similar to this one?
Yeah most likely very similar outcome but without the great idle sound
Amazing. Thanks.
Mastertech Miller, what cam would you recommend for really good horsepower and torque for a screaming eagle 131 build with some heads done with chrome two into one exhaust
What compression ratio is it?
@@MasterTechMiller not sure yet probably 11:1. Not sure what the builder has in mind
CR515 will tick all your boxes. It'll make over 150hp & 160ft/lbs
Thank you
Loved it. 🙏🇦🇺
With the price of a new Breakouts they should come straight from the factory like that. But like most other Harleys you have to spend even more thousands them to get the best performance out of them. 🤔😏
Just curious, was the stock 131 flywheel not good enough? Why the S&S?
The S&S flywheel is constructed much stronger than the OEM Flywheel.
That's why we went that way. The customer plans to give it a hard time.
The OEM Flywheel is fine to run in 131ci applications but only as long as its a gently ridden.
@@MasterTechMiller that leads me to a follow-on question… if purchasing a 2019 Road Glide with only 2,000 miles on the odometer and a 131 stage 4 upgrade installed, should I be cautious of the factory flywheel or any other recommended weak points before purchase?
@@MasterTechMiller also, thanks for your reply. I am subscribed and enjoy your videos.
@@GarrettAnderson-d8d No worries! Thanks for watching & supporting
@user-os1mm8to6l There is no way of ever knowing how the bike has been treated or ridden it whole life. Whether it's a 131ci or a Stock 107ci, if it's had a hard life you're still taking a gamble no matter what.
I would be mainly concerned if it's a late model 2019 bike or an early model 2019.
The later model 2019 bikes 10th month onwards have the 8 lobe oil pump in them.
What was done to the front forks? Are those covers? Did he lower it?
Yes they are fork covers. The front wheel has been changed to a 23"
The fork legs are standard length.
What are using to tune the bike?
Direct Link from Technoresearch
If I do a build on a 22 lrst and am doing the bottom end , is it worth getting the new lighter balancer's
Let's go 🤙🏽
I didn't see the C-clip go into the piston. That would hold the wrist-pin in place with in the piston.
I never put them in. Saves a little bit of weight & helps with quicker RPMs
She's gorgeous ❤️🔥 Harley-Davidson 👊👆
What cam would you recommend on 23’ breakout with V&H short shots with S&S mini teardrop air cleaner
With those pipes, I'd be going with the CR480
After the big motor and cam.. rockin toque for the riding areas.
Who cares about what it’s doing at 6k
Nobody riding up there usually unless racing and trying to get that little edge out on your buddy
Absolutely 💯
It been while , i just finished 128 with my cam change from 475 S&S to a 515 CR with springs also changed my throttle body from the 55 to 6.4 and 6.2 injectors . And changed my air cleaner to the HD high flow SE , and a Khrome Works 2into one outlaw . Only got 140 torque 132 hp , i had 147 tq with 475 S&S. Not sure what is going on , the tuner he was not sure himself . It is very fast a lot better than the 475 .
Are you QLD local ? Take your bike to him, I reckon he will get the best possible performance from it for you, or tell you what to to do. Maybe call him , Darling Downs Harley Davidson Toowoomba. He's getting alot of interstate clients from Vic, and NSW.
Ok thanks , it seems like the tune can’t think of anything else .

Hey mate im just about to do a 131 kit se kit in my 2023 break
I have a set of freedom radius on their
Im after best sound and performance i can get
I have the cam that comes with the kit but i also have a cr 483 cam already
And if i was to go the cr 483 cam would i be able to put it
Straight in with no problems tuning wise i have the screaming eagle smart module auto tune
I just have the base map stage 4 installed
The CR483 cam will work fine with the kit but the Screamin' Eagle Tuner may not provide enough adjustment to get it running correctly.
You are better off with either a Direct Link USB Key from Technoresearch, A Power Vision or TTS Tuning device.
@MasterTechMiller stage 4 kit is in with cam n smart module tune just wanted to make sure i wouldnt do any damage to the engine putting the 485 in with just the base tune from the module
Im going to get it tuned with a new tuner once i have done everything
Is their one you would recommend ?
And what numbers should i be aiming for with the 131 and cr 485 cam when i get it back from tuning
love the videos please keep them coming !!
From your videos ive installed a stage 4 kit and upgrades at home and couldnt be happier so far with the results
How do you expect to get HUGE torque out of those pipes I'ld like to know.
These pipes are always known to provide a strong torque curve early in the rpm range. They lack peak HP figures in the upper rpm range
@@MasterTechMiller And you don't know the problem with that, but you see it on your dyno maybe?! 🤓
Hi Mate, is that air suspension or lowering Kit?
Air Suspension mate.
Platinum Air Suspension
will this cam work with a 117 stage four , have u ever used the Andrews 485 cam and will it work for me on this 117 stage 4?
This CR483 will go great in that combo! It will be very strong!
How much, about is a build like this?
Typically, the 131ci Screamin Eagle kit fitted & tuned with an aftermarket cam like this one is around $8700AUD
How many miles will he get out of this? The piston is so short it will start to rock and use oil.
I'll pass that information on the Engineers at MAHLE & Screamin' Eagle.
@@MasterTechMiller I am not being a smart ass, I am simply asking how many miles would be expected? It is not like the engineers are caring about longevity they care about the #'s it produces to make the customer happy.
@8mywal8 these pistons are manufactured by MAHLE. A leading & very reputable manufacturer.
The pistons are absolutely fine & they will last in excess of 100,000km. I will convert that to American.
To calculate this, we first need to know the length of a cheeseburger. Let's assume a typical cheeseburger is about 15 centimeters long (half a cheese burger) Then, we can calculate:
100,000 km = 100,000,000 meters
Now, we'll convert the length of a cheeseburger to meters:
15 centimeters = 0.15 meters
Now, we can find out how many cheeseburgers would cover 100,000 km:
100,000,000 meters / 0.15 meters per cheeseburger = 666,666,667 cheeseburgers
So, it would take approximately 666,666,667 cheeseburgers laid end to end to cover a distance of 100,000 km.
@@MasterTechMiller😂😂😂 classic
Hey mate, how much do you charge for a stage 4 sns 475
@liamgoodhew2441 I would not use the S&S 475 in a stage 4 combo.
That cam is best suited for mostly stage 2 kits & SOME stage 3 kits.
Stage 4 builds generally have a larger duration & lift cam in them to complement the high flow ported heads on stage 4 combos
@ yeah I just realised I have that written down I thought you may have been able to do it on a stage 4, is that a good stage 2 ? Do you have any videos of that one you’ve done on a bike?
@@MasterTechMiller ?
@liamgoodhew2441 The S&S 475 is a great choice for a stage 2 Cam Kit, that is for sure. Unfortunately I don't have any videos on my channel about it
116 Thunder stroke "in sport mode" will leave you standing still. 😂😂😂😂😂
🤣😂🤣😂
how much is that set up?
The 131ci Kit is $6700 AUD, the cam is $579
Then install & tuning costs on top. Each dealership varies on labour rate & tuning fees.
131 Cubic inch engine and how many horsepower does it produce? 137 horsepower that’s almost pathetic for a monster engine
Omg the music mate…plz

This review is not complete! WE THE "COMMENTERS" NEED TO RIDE IT FOR A AFTERNOON!
Only then will "we" know the truth, LOL!
By the way, I would buy it just for THE LOOKS AND THE WHEELS.
Personally I worry about "engine OIL HEAT" on all such engines over 110C.I. I am concerned about huge air cooled engine and engine temperatures.
That said PLEASE MAKE ONE OF THESE FOR ME.
I'd love to build you a combo!
The M8 engine platform has oil cooled heads as I'm sure you are aware of? The cooling is concentrated around the exhaust valves of the heads to help extract the heat as best it can.
Also the oil volume of the M8 platform is much higher than the Twincam models.
Approximately 4.6ltrs compared to the 3.5ltrs found in Twincam touring models.
The VVT M8 platform has water cooled heads that has priority flow to the rear head. A revised & better design than the non VVT M8
