@@viniciusmartins8718 : Any number of reasons, IMO, starting with the lack of high tech electronics. Yes, they have electronic ignition but there is no ECM to go bad. Plus you have a gravity fed fuel tank that feeds a carb. No FI injector, FI fuel pump or cam phaser to go bad unless you purchased a bike during the Evo days with FI and I think those were 98 and later. Also has a gear to gear driven cam. No chains which can stretch and wear out. Granted, Evo's are built more like tractor engines. Hence, they are not powerhouses nor should they really be built to huge inches. Then again if I really wanted huge horsepower I'd get an engine with 2 or more cylinders and offset crank journals but that being said- the Evo is a rock solid engine. That is not to say they can't develop issues. Some of the early cases were given to leaking due to porous alum material but those bikes are 40+ years old now. Also of note, you shouldn't rev up an Evo super high when cold as they can develop base gasket leaks. Let it warm up some 1st where the clamping forces are much higher on the cylinder jugs. Also after super high miles you may want to consider having lifters replaced but I've read mixed reviews on that. Some went bad at 40K others at 80K and yet others not at all. Evo sounds best with a carb but nobody who actually rides it would go back. Can't tell you how many primary i ruined and trans mounts i tore free. Honestly twin cam was much improved
Ive owned several Evo powered Harleys, a 1985 FXWG, 1989 FXSTS, 1992 FLHS, 1997 FXSTC and the best one of the lot in my opinion, none of them ever gave me problems.
I've rode THEM ALL from the flathead to the M8. In my opinion, NOTHING beats the Twin Cam 103. The EVO is a GREAT MOTOR. But not as smooth, not as bullet proof, doesn't have the performance and lastly doesn't have the longevity and dependability, I've seen in the 103.
My 15 FXDL, 95k miles in 5 years. Great bike. But transmission was bad at 55k and at 95k a needle bearing shit out the rear intake lifter. Thankfully I had ESP.
@FredHaferkamp I liked my Evo (heads polished, ported, and flow benched, EV 5 cam) but my 103TC (cammed, chipped and dyno'd at 115hp) is a faster engine.
You are completely wrong on that one dude. 2006 was the end of the twin cam junk 88 then in 2007 they came out with the twin cam 96 with upgraded tensioners cause the 88 was such a bad design. He clearly stated the 88 was discontinued in 2006.

Amen bro, it cracks me up when i hear people say the evo or twin cam was the best motor ever made. The newest M8s are by far the best motor harley has made to date.
You never mention the Sportster EVO engine-which mechanically most believe to be the toughest most reliable engine Harley ever built and by the way-the Iron Head was never a 1100 cc in 1980-that size came late in around 87 in the evo sportster and the Shovel head was increased to 1340cc not 1300
Ya got that right, the displacement increase for the Ironhead was from 54" to 61" was in '72. Also personally I stick to Blockheads, Big n Little V-twins for my ride after 43 years on 2 wheels, and I've owned them all along the way up till the TC starting with my 1st bike when I was 15, a '42 WLA me and my Pa put together. I've heard a lot of this info before but this vid provided a good comprehensive overview and a lot of additional trivia that makes it pretty interesting. One item that was left out however, was the distinction between the Twin Cam 88 A & B that saw the improvement for the replacement of the plastic parts in the Cam Chain adjuster to a mechanical (chain driven) design. I had to make that upgrade in my 2000 FLSTC after hearing the Cam chain making contact with the housing once the plastic adjuster in the 88A had bottomed out. Cost me a pretty penny but I never had that problem again.

The 99 to 02 twincam 88 with upgraded cam chain tensioners is probably the most reliable Harley engine hands down. I used to ride with a 1% support club and the most reliable highest milage hardest running bikes were all twincam 88s. Ive seen 103s blow up m8s throw rod big twin evos blow head gaskets and lose power twincam 96s have crank walk you name it. Another fact about the 99 to 02 bikes they had the reliable 5 speed trans 02 being the most reliable 5 speed out of all yrs. There's a reason stunt guys use the early model twincam.
Also, the early twinkies had the timken bearings on both sides of the crank. In 03 and later, they dropped the timken from the cam side of the engine for the inferior roller bearing.

14:47 that FXE is really rare, it’s surely is a big time collectors item 😅😅😅 This is probably one of the worst videos I’ve ever seen on the subject, I’m embarrassed.
the m8 117 isnt just in CVO models, if youre talking 2023 then yes it was a CVO exclusive, the 2024 bikes have the 117 as the standard and the CVO has the 121, the torque spec was also wrong its 130 ftlb of torque not 125, I ride a 2024 street glide and had the bike put on a dyno it came up with 109 hp and 135 ftlb of torque when i had it stock. theres a lot wrong in this video
What a joke after the evo nothing was good. NOTE: The 117 motors are with the S&S gear cam. Harley went downhill after the evo. depending on after-market companies to fix their screw-ups. Harleys are turning to junk. thanks to the new C.E.O. in charge of the company. they need to dump that loser.
Whoa, what? With mispronounced words by this AI Droid doing the talking, and images that don't match fact, I'm not sure if this video is worth finishing. 3:58 1999 Touring model? Well ok I can admit that it is kind o a touring bike but I ´m pretty sure it´s not run by a Twin Cam engine 🤣🤣🤣
14:47 that FXE is really rare, it’s surely is a big time collectors item 😅😅😅
This is probably one of the worst videos I’ve ever seen on the subject, I’m embarrassed.
Twin cam 103 high output
the m8 117 isnt just in CVO models, if youre talking 2023 then yes it was a CVO exclusive, the 2024 bikes have the 117 as the standard and the CVO has the 121, the torque spec was also wrong its 130 ftlb of torque not 125, I ride a 2024 street glide and had the bike put on a dyno it came up with 109 hp and 135 ftlb of torque when i had it stock. theres a lot wrong in this video
wow the pictured fxe doesnt look anything like the one i had
i had a 1971 xlch . that was the last year for the right side shifter. some government guy made it mandatory for all bikes. hum i wonder why
Sadly, very few of the pictures match what he’s talking about at the time
Too many errors in this video to watch it. You should learn about something called "FACT CHECKING"
The Evo had an external oil pump. The Twin Cam hand an internal oil pump.
All Harley propaganda, I’ve owned and own some of these, if you do too, then you know the truth.
Notmine , your obviously smoking something , you would only see my tail light
What a joke after the evo nothing was good. NOTE: The 117 motors are with the S&S gear cam. Harley went downhill after the evo. depending on after-market companies to fix their screw-ups. Harleys are turning to junk. thanks to the new C.E.O. in charge of the company. they need to dump that loser.
wow never metioned twin cam and m8 crank shaft problems
Where Sportster EVO 883,1200 !?)
2015 street glide special 6 speed awesom ride !
You got the oil systems, mixed up from the evolution and the twin cam buddy twin cams have internal oil systems evolutions have external
The video is a waste of time to watch. It's garbage.
I wonder why they never would talk about the v rod motor that was probably their best
I love my twin cam 88
Evo also in Sportsters
Whoa, what? With mispronounced words by this AI Droid doing the talking, and images that don't match fact, I'm not sure if this video is worth finishing. Especially when you consider that Marlon Brando's character did not ride a Harley at all! He rode a Triumph Thunderbird 6T.
Do your homework, droid!
Still like my shovel.
Yuh left out the XR 750 in the flat trackers. Evel Knievels stunt motors.
There is a lot of misinformation on this video. Too many incorrect motorcycle and engine models. I’d recommend that more research be done and the video be remade
What about the 103 cu.in 2013 WTF beats the 96 all to he'll man. And what about S&S got nothing to say about S&S?
I got to 4 minutes and can't watch any more too many mistakes, the last one being you said the Twin Cam went to an external oil pump
The 2024 Breakout also has the 117 which I own.
I dont get it? My Yamaha MT10 AND my YZFR1 have motors that are just SOOO awesome! So economical to buy so satisfying WHY in the WORLD would I want a lumpy HEAVY as all hell Vtwin? The ONLY H-D motor I find the least bit appealing is the Revolution mill...If Harley would have put in a decent chassis at a reasonale price? Well I have always desired to own a US brand bike....just never at the espense of shooting myself in the foot. I wish I was not so old because I really THINK Hrleys base is dying off and EVENTUALLY the brand will get sold to someone who loves motorcycles not just keep milking the same crowd on account of a long running fad,,,,sure made sense to cash in on it but NOT at the expense of ALL the other ways to enjoy motorcycles that are NOT the potato potato potato supposed bad boy look FAD centered around ignorance
The Revolution Max engine may be fine, but the software running the engine sucks! I had this engine in my Nightster . After one year, Harley Davidson and my Dealer bought it back and gave me a good deal on a new bike. I bought at 2024 Street Bob.
