6:04 Sorry, did not mean to say GTAV here, I guess it was just on my mind. Either way... *Spoilers in GTAV give a fixed amount of traction instead of downforce, which is still inaccurate.* Downforce in GTAV is tied to certain vehicles. Strange design choice, but hey whatever.
I use awd a lot, but that's mainly because of the cars I love to race, are the high end hyper/ full on race cars, which at that point you need awd, when cars approach 1:1 hp to kg ratio, it makes a notable difference on turns
WeLl aCtUaLLy... AWD cars have overall better dynamic capabilities than rwd or fwd cars. Usually, the ability to divide the torque of the engine to all the four wheels overpowers the weight penalty. That's not just useful for drag races but also useful for cornering, the the tires can ultimately transmitt more sideforce on the wheels. However, this statement only holds true for cars with internal combustion engines. The weight penalty for awd EVs, like a Tesla, is much higher, therefor the rwd version of a Model 3 may be faster in some situations than the awd version.
They dont drift for speed then either. They drift because its safer. And because their cars aren't setup for max downforce and grip, as there is barely any grip to get on gravel and dirt roads.

I don't remember in which Game(s), but in some NfS games you couldn't even get to the official top speed of the Veyron even when upgraded/tuned, it was limited xD
Blazinhorsepower well gta has make the came true the adder(Bugatti veyron) can't even catch up to a Porsche 918(811),Ferrari f80(x80 Proto) and a fucking Dodge Viper(banshee 900r) and even it can't catch up to a Ferrari 812 superfast(pariah)
The real reason why the Bugatti gets its ass handed is actually pretty simple. *It's heavy as fuck* Go above a certain speed and it's pretty much a fast moving brick. You don't need a super powerful car to beat it. Unless it has a really long straightaway, a car that's really light with good amounts of power that doesn't cause you to lose traction instantly will do a good job keeping up and beating a Veyron on a usual track. I've done so many times with a GT-R in Horizon 3 which isn't a great S2 class car Tbh
D13H4RD2L1V3 Maintence of a Bugatti is expensive in real life. The Bugatti can be pretty unreliable though and then when the parts break after thousands of miles, it needs hundreds of grand to repair them. So, after all the Bugatti can gobble up everyone's wallets in an unlucky matter in real life, from its million-dollar price followed by house-price loads of maintence...I'd better be off to a car that's more reliable and less expensive, such as a used Mercedes-Benz W124 E300 for instance.
I’m the exact opposite, I want to stay somewhat hidden so everybody doesn’t jump on the bandwagon just like they did with the Bugatti lol. It’s just our communities little secret 😉
The thing I like about the racing in GTA compared to other arcade racing games, is that racing lines and smooth steering improve your lap times/pace. Whereas silly drifting in other games is a must. Good video:))
GUMBA We are in a clean racing communtity where spinning people out isn’t tolerated. So yea, racing lines and physics knowledge > Drifting any day. Also, Hi Ymer 👋
I remember when I was a kid back in 2010, I always thought you could drift a car by just simply pressing the brake and the gas at the same time because of NFS Hot Pursuit's brake to drift mechanism :P
Alot of ppl seem to think that NOS instantly makes flames come out the back......... but in reality it’s not a constant flame and it’s most likely from backfire......
Me 2 guys. I'm 12. I play Gran Turismo Sport coz there I can win my non car guy friends. I bought the Veyron just bcuz they chose only Veyron and I can easily win them with my 870 fully tuned R33 GTR into Suzuka Circuit and they rage quit 😂🤣
Still happy that I watched F1 as a kid and had gran turismo 3 as my first racing game. I never got into the "drift to corner better" stereotype. All my arcade racer friends were puzzled when they couldn't drift in forza horizon and told me the physics were bad. When I drifted my trueno and supra in a race with them they were just real surprised hahahaha.
Sliding can be advantageous IRL, depending on the corner, the conditions, and the car. In rallying (tarmac, or gravel), they do a Scandinavian flick, as the car is able to make a straighter exit through the corner, which means you can use more of the cars acceleration. This only applies to tight corners though, despite what NFS may have you believe
Over here, in Sweden, using the handbrake is for FWD cars only. If you wanna have some fun with silver plates, that is. But what we do here is: Step 1: Go to blocket and spot the cheapest 740 with D24 or B230F as possible. Step 2: buy car... Step 3: Put on slick tires to the rear when it's snow and ice. Step 4: Gas, Gas, Gas!!! I'm gonna step on the gas!
I've never actually met someone who thinks that the wing is solely used for appearance only, but if I actually do meet someone who thinks like that, then I will cringe so bad I'll probably rip the wing of their car.

That drifting part is definitely true, if you can get through a corner without drifting it is almost always gonna be faster, in Speedway we always took the corners wide to avoid it as much as possible.
I mean in some ways they do. They are more likely to have off-road tires so they’ll probably have better acceleration. And their suspension allows them to keep their wheels planted on rough surfaces which means even better acceleration. They are also generally more stable around corners due to off-road tires so they can actually turn instead of going over a cliff sideways.
Max level Channel Coolness Technically they will, the ability and configuration to handle the terrain better usually allows them to cover more ground does it not?
Off-road cars CAN go faster on dirt than other cars (not guaranteed they do, because that depends on what cars and what "dirt" are we talking about). But off-road cars will not go faster on dirt than on the road, there´s a reason why we have roads...
One thing I don't like about some race games is the fact that tire and wheel size doesn't affect the driving experience and I have friends who frequently ask me "Why don't you just put like 19s or 20s on your car? It won't do anything" (genesis coupe) and I'm like "Do I really have to explain to you why that's a bad idea?" I'm sure that's a misconception people have from games like NFS.
Oof. I know that feel too. A lot of my friends keep telling my brother and me to get bigger rims, but let's be real, if we go beyond 20", we'll be entering some serious donk territory and lose so much performance and gas mileage.
I remember playing NFS Carbon when I was like 8 and just looking at every available car then choosing the Lamborghini Gallardo for the race because highest speed stats. I went against my friend and got slaughtered because you couldn't control the damned thing (don't remember what he picked). I went back later that day to launch my own racing career on the game. I started with the RX8 and was amazed at how well it cornered.

my favorite one is revving to the redline = faster. That is true with engines tuned to peak power at peak rpm but with turbo power, hybrids or diesels the best shift point can be far lower to stay in the power band.
There's a car in FH5 that has absolutely ridiculous powerband, 5k rpm peakpower but 8k rpm redline bruh It'd be funny if I forced someone to drive same car as mine, I could probably beat em easily just by shifting correctly
To be fair, a steering wheel is not always the best choice for racing games. For simulators, it is almost mandatory, yes. But damn I hated playing Forza Horizon 3 with a wheel. A Controller is a much better choice for this game. Arcade Games in general are more fun with controllers.
I play FH3 with a T300 with no assists at all, I find it to be enjoyable and quite easy to use than a standard controller, granted I play mostly with a wheel UNLESS the game requires a controller, MW2012 is one game I could think of... Too bad you can't use your TH8A shifter on PC, Turn10 mess.
Nazareno Fernandez Wierd, I used to own a G29 and play FH3 for a few good hours, Didn't had a problem with it till it started to defect and thus had to throw it away. Steering sensitive too high? From the game or Software?
TheRealBigM mainly cuz the physics/handling is aimed at controller. take a look at nfs payback for example, drifting with controller feels normal, just the kind of handling you would expect from a arcade. BUT when you use a wheel and you start to drift in nfs payback it feels ass and complete shit. there is no countersteering like you have to do when drifting, you just turn to the direction the car is going

I always love using the term "powersliding" to mean maintaining speed while in a controlled skid instead of saying drifting because although they use some of the same principles they function to serve different purposes. Also a key difference that I see and have used for my brain to understand it easily is drifting is not only very showy but useful for controlling a tight turn when you've hit it at to high of a speed for your angle, with drifting in that way you manage to preserve much of your speed, while powersliding is useful for either passing or correcting a miss aligned turn allowing you to either maintain speed or even increase it. (Also powersliding is way more useful on a dirt track and with a race of older cars)
DC Productions that's awesome. I've got a black on black 68 cutlass supreme. I think the 69 super bee is the best looking B body of that year. I've got the original olds 350 4bbl & 2speed trans. What's behind your 383, a 727 or a 4 speed?
Well actually, drifting isn't just for art and isn't just for fun or visual. It depend on a LOT of parameters, but sometime drifting is actually faster than going 100% grip, which is the reason why most rally cars take corners drifting. There is SO MUCH to talk about when it come to drifting, the difference between drifting and powersliding is the first to talk about. Then there is how the drift is initiated from handbrake or powers through corner to more subtle techniques like throttle lift or harder like Scandinavian flick. Then how it is performed, high angle to make it visual or controlled and precise lower angle for actual speed. A lot of peoples might jump out and say "If It WaS FaStEr ThEn WhY DoN't RaCe CaRs UsE It AlL ThE TiMe ?" And well, lets simply say that controlling a car through a corner is way easier in grip than in drift, grip allow for way more precise trajectories, even pro drifter often spin or miss their shot, would you want to make your piloting harder and increasing the risk of losing control ? Would you want to have less effective trajectories where even a meter away from the ideal racing line in that (serie of) corner can make you lose a lot of time ? But also there is tire and fuel control, drifting naturally burn quicker through your tires and since you put even more power to spin the wheels you burn more fuel, meaning more frequent stop and more time where tires are less grippy because brakes and tires overheat, also the mechanical wear on those cars who have so much extreme tuning that they could simply not even finish the race with a single engine if they were drifting, also a really huge reason is simply because cars on track often are extremely aerodynamically fine tuned and dependent, the advantages of drifting is seriously inferior than the advantage of downforce, and putting the car sideway mean losing this aerodynamic advantage. Also the rubber buildup would make the track a real hell, and many more details like that... But now take two road car modified for speed and drift respectively, no extreme aerodynamic for the one setup for speed, and depending on the track itself, they may simply have equal track time, and the less grippy the surface is, the more drifting will get an advantage (Rallying does it often for this reason, and yes they also do handbrake turn or asphalt but almost only on hairpins because this is faster to rotate the car around an axis than going through the whole trajectory of following the curve, real drifting would not really have an advantage here, this is more a controlled spin than drifting). So yeah, this is actually complex because there are a LOT of variables, but this is wrong to say that x is superior to y, its all depend on the conditions, and drift have its strengths, even of a grippy asphalt surface, as much as it have weakness and limitations.

If I make a game the veyron will be labeled: *not even that fucking fast.*
That would be so troll LMFAO.
I can already imagine how funny it'd be to see a bone stock Mini Cooper have better stats than the Veyron.
Make the vayron the slowest car in the game
I did play the Undercover (on PC) and the Veyron could only reach 400km/h when FULLY TUNED.
The real reason why the Bugatti gets its ass handed is actually pretty simple.
*It's heavy as fuck*
Go above a certain speed and it's pretty much a fast moving brick.
The thing is the Veyron is made almost entirely out of carbon fiber but weighs more than a hellcat. Those are some heavy quad-snails.
BubbaDERP21 aka_Rayson Don’t forget the luxury stuff inside the car.
It’s not even close to being stripped-out
D13H4RD2L1V3 Maintence of a Bugatti is expensive in real life.

The thing I like about the racing in GTA compared to other arcade racing games, is that racing lines and smooth steering improve your lap times/pace. Whereas silly drifting in other games is a must.
Good video:))
R-Amores Nah in gta 5 you need to have a better car and just try to spin everybody out so they crash
That could apply to almost any arcade racer, especially the old nfs games, that rewards clean lines with faster times and higher average speeds

But what we do here is:
Step 1: Go to blocket and spot the cheapest 740 with D24 or B230F as possible.
Step 2: buy car...
Step 3: Put on slick tires to the rear when it's snow and ice.

Car guy: *Face palm's *
I mean in some ways they do. They are more likely to have off-road tires so they’ll probably have better acceleration. And their suspension allows them to keep their wheels planted on rough surfaces which means even better acceleration. They are also generally more stable around corners due to off-road tires so they can actually turn instead of going over a cliff sideways.

One thing I don't like about some race games is the fact that tire and wheel size doesn't affect the driving experience and I have friends who frequently ask me "Why don't you just put like 19s or 20s on your car? Oof. I know that feel too. A lot of my friends keep telling my brother and me to get bigger rims, but let's be real, if we go beyond 20", we'll be entering some serious donk territory and lose so much performance and gas mileage.

To be fair, a steering wheel is not always the best choice for racing games. For simulators, it is almost mandatory, yes. But damn I hated playing Forza Horizon 3 with a wheel. A Controller is a much better choice for this game. Arcade Games in general are more fun with controllers.
TheRealBigM true , steering wheel stress me out more than using a Keyboard
I play FH3 with a T300 with no assists at all, I find it to be enjoyable and quite easy to use than a standard controller, granted I play mostly with a wheel UNLESS the game requires a controller, MW2012 is one game I could think of...

Asphalt games were my first racing games, and now here I am with my full wheel setup...

Damn that flew right over my head
A lot of peoples might jump out and say "If It WaS FaStEr ThEn WhY DoN't RaCe CaRs UsE It AlL ThE TiMe ?"
And well, lets simply say that controlling a car through a corner is way easier in grip than in drift, grip allow for way more precise trajectories, even pro drifter often spin or miss their shot, would you want to make your piloting harder and increasing the risk of losing control ?
Thanks for the knowledge man! Finally I learnt something from yt comments.
