I love this new tip. I’m 6’2 and can get in my mustang 07 pretty comfortably but I’ll be sure to try this and see how much easier it make it. Ps the hardest part is how low to I ground it is compared to other cars
Half the weight, and 60 years old. Back in those days 50 hp was fairly fast for pretty much everything with that weight (for a European like me at least). Look at any Nissan S car from the 90s and you'll probably be equal to faster in them. It's something called getting with the times, not even a Fiesta ST is slower. @@Corvolet5 well i know that but in from america and the older car people in my family grew up racing mucle cars so they think of austin healy as the small slow sports car just as people compare what he said in vid mustang v 86
Another huge misconception is that if a sports car is "slow," there no way it could possibly be fun. When I was shopping for a Miata i had people genuinely warn me not to get one because they're slow, boring, wouldn't be like how you'd expect, and that I'd end up wanting to get rid of it (even though I had driven a Miata and fell on love with how it felt). I ended up buying a real nice green 1997 M Edition and guess what? I love it! I love how it takes corners, I love how you can feel the road when driving it, I love how light it is, I love how small it is, I love how responsive the throttle is, I love how zippy the engine is, and I love the convertible top. I could give a crap less if a Honda Accord can beat me at a stop light, I'm having fun! Also, if you ever drive a Miata, it feels faster than it actually is. Its almost like driving a big go kart.

Very true! Not only that but I learned manual in a Miata and the clutch was so easy to figure out. I was surprised I managed to not stall it! Super fun car the low horsepower makes it easy to rev and start understanding when to shift.
The part were 200 hp are considered“low power” is super ridiculous for people outside of North America and probably Australia. In Germany the engine power of new cars being sold is around 150 hp on average. The majority of cars is less powerful with many having less than 100 hp.
Yeah, in the states many of our cars have well over of 300hp. Even 350 is considered a mediocre number for a lot. However since the average weight of new cars here is over 4000lbs 350hp is still more than 10lb per hp.
6:45 I've noticed a lot of people think a performance car variants (excluding dodge) are only as good as it's 0-60 times. But I believe that handling is infinitly more important then flat out speed. I own a WRX and sure she's not the quickest off the line but she's a joy in the corners. I'm not gonna hate on you for liking flat out speed, just be aware that speed isn't the only factor to a sports car.
For me it's all about character. New cars feel like soulless machines with so much tech they practically drive themselves (or actually do drive themselves.) I like older cars that had more personality and made you feel connected with the car through the transmission, the engine, the sound, and just the way the cars drove. You were in control of the car, they didn't have a bunch of computers to save you. Because of that I mostly only like cars from the early 2000s and before.
Every car can be fast in a straight line but not every car can be fast in corners "Straight roads are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers"----Colin McRae
@@JordanSVT Yeah! I drive a 5spd Saab 9-3 2003 and i love thrashing the mess out of it around corners and guys with new cars get upset when i stay on their tail.
I mean for most car guys, it's more than just a car, it's something you poor your heart and soul into, it's not a passion it's an addiction. I know what you mean, but it's so much more than that
Thats why there was a massive jump from the C4 to the C5 Corvette… the C5 was the first Corvette that was seriously raced in Sports Car racing. Its so cool seeing the Corvette evolve over the years thanks to the Pratt & Miller team’s commitment to domination in GT1/GT2/GTLM and the upcoming GT3 Pro. Thats why the Corvette is what it is now. That racing program is great and its challenged the programs of Porsche, BMW, Ford, Dodge, and others that raced GT.
A common misconception I've seen (on the Internet) is people calling Mustangs and similar vehicles hypercars. I'm not going to judge them for it, it's perfectly fine if someone doesn't know that a Mustang is not a hypercar and at the end of the day it is just a car and it doesn't matter what you call it, but it is really annoying.
well it may depend on which country they come from, where I live Musangs, Camaros, Corvettes are extremle rare and expensive so for most people they look like hypercars
Fun fact: gran turismo is one of the least controversial games ever made, being accessible for more than 90% of the world, assuming they have electricity, a TV and a PlayStation. edit: fuck
One misconception I seriously loathe is my non-car type family. Whenever I bring up a good deal they always shoot it down by saying the usual “Oh parts will be too expensive! Your insurance would be through the roof! You’ll blow all your savings on it” and yet they don’t do the research themselves lol. It grinds my gears
If you’ve ever watched a Smoking Tire review, he gives great examples of sports cars with excellent damping and rides. He loves the MagRide in the c8 corvette and said the ride in the 720s exceeds almost every luxury car he’s ever driven other than Bentley and rolls royce. Incredible how well rounded these cars are nowadays
@Damian Chiliński yeah, even tho iam not vibes with the new wrx, atleast they don't betray the loyal costumer imo. They keep and try to satisfied their costumer, even tho is hard to satisfied people in the first place. Well again, i can respect Subaru, Mitsubishi? Not so much...i know Mitsubishi have a looming debt behind it, but cmon....atleast put some other name, rather than picking beloved name like Evo and Eclipse. For love of God just use old name like Airtrek or something for SUV name.
@Damian Chiliński but i wish Mitsubishi back to their beloved route tho....like bladed said, "Competition is Mother Of Invention" and that is true. Why Evo is really good is because Subaru exist in the first place (WRC). That why Evo have AYC technology is because Subaru push them to the limit, and it pay off. Really sad that Mitsubishi is an old rival and friends that don't remember you again. Its like having a rival and 5 years later he diagnose with dementia 💀
The C70 chassis was co developed by TWR on the 850 platform. It's quite nimble for it's size and incredibly comfortable as well. The only downside is it's an FF layout.
As a person that recently started to drive an GT86, I have would say that what you are saying is correct. The 86 platform is supposed to be fun to drive, but fast. Having said that, it is faster than I thought It would be. And I’m coming from a 320 HP WRX normally.
Two things I wanted to point out, and perhaps someone could help. 1) About sports cars scraping less nowadays, I assume law also affects it. As time passes, the requirements for roadworthiness are refined, as happened in my country about a decade ago (all cars are requested the lowest point of the vehicle to be a least 10cm above the surface), so perhaps higher ride height has been included. 2) Rally cars (most specifically WRC) all have or had VERY low power for a race car (back in 2010, they were normally capped at 270hp i think) and still could accelerate extremely fast while still bringing insane handling. Sure, the standards for the WRC are completely different from Nascar or Stock cars, but they are all very intense sports nonetheless, and you could DEFINITELY have a lot of fun in a low power car around a track.
Rally cars accelerate fast because they have extremely low top speed, therefore they can have very aggressive gear ratio for rapid acceleration at low speed.
I'm 6'5 and I own an FRS, people are constantly asking me how I can fit in it and it gets really annoying after a while. What's even more annoying is how people try to tell me I don't have a "real sports car" as if it's their place to do so. Sure, it's not exactly the fastest but it SLAYS on the twisties. People really do think that all out speed is more important than how a car handles.
I've valued suspension and throttle response above all else when it comes to tuning, i believe driveability is seriously overlooked in our "big number vroom vroom" culture in North America.
From where I live, the biggest misconception about sports cars is that they're all fast (especially because many non-car people here think they're either Ferrari or Lamborghini).
For me the most importante thing are: handling, weight and acceleration. You don't need much hp when your car is slim. Also tops speed is irrelevant. In my country even on the fastest motorway the speed limit is 140km/h (85mph). So even an old crappy car can go that fast, you don't need 800 hp for that. That's why I value more the handling of the car.
Same here acceleration(whether is on a roll or standing starts) and handling are most important for me simply want a car to go fast in a straight line and have great handling aswell.
The part where Bladed discussed about technology from racing cars trickling down to economy cars is quite true. Look I am a Formula One fan and many innovations like semi-automatic gearboxes, traction control and heck even the door mirrors were first tried and tested in motorsport.
The vehicles I like to own are high performance compact vehicles. They are good on gas, great handling, versatility, practical, drivability, can be modified, low cost of ownership, affordable etc. 90% of success is failure.... - Soichiro Honda
The hachi-roku has its own dedicated race in Australia and I'm 90% sure that the racing teams trust the handling so much they don't tweak it. They only add engine mods.
nailed the frs argument, they're so much fun on mountain roads and I always shock random cars behind me when I disappear into the night after a single curve
Shit I do that to kids who think they are racers while driving cars like the Honda Fit. Never driven an FR-S but I have enough experience to know that on a twisty roads they are basically able to carry more speed than anything out there
I have an S5. It's so true, what you said about rowing gears while doing legal speeds. My car isn't the fastest, with "only" 350hp, but it's doing illegal things in barely any time at all.
Even if they aren't perfect, I love my Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8. I can agree that being able to "use" all of my power and not instantly break the law is actually really nice. I haven't even gotten the honor to drive a higher power vehicle yet. I can already tell you that starting with something that doesn't have 700 WHP right off the bat... is a smart choice.
@@patrickmartin3322 I bought my car used and somehow the dealership got the monitor to read around 35mpg. My peak is 22 and that’s with tons of highway
True with the “sports cars being a waste of space” argument. If the new technology cannot perform well at its best (sports cars), then why bother putting it on a car that can’t handle its maximum at all. It’s like all those motorsports, they are all testing grounds for new technology to see if they can work on the road-going cars you see today.
I've always entered butt first to tap the dirt off my feet, and to reduce wear on the side bolster. It also feels more natural, so idk why people step in first.
By the logic, If you’re having a threesome, it’s like taking the friend for a ride in your car then, and showing what your car is capable of. Sounds good to me.
What you were saying about low power cars not being “real sports cars” is super interesting. In Australia ( at least with non car people) anything with a spoiler is considered a sports car regardless of power handling ect.
F for the RX8 Also to the point of MPG: There is a point to be made about every car having it's "optimum" drive train as I call it, where the performance is good/acceptable without having too much consumption compared to the other engine options. My friend who's big with 3 series said if I'll get an E46, i shouldn't get a 320i but at least a 325, since the real world MPG would potentially even be lower than for the 320 when not driving like a grandma. Seen this myself with my old 1.6 Hyundai Getz vs. the 1.3/1.4 version. Both even have the same( or the 1.3 slightly less, not sure anymore) mpg on paper, just that one has 105hp on 1050KG and the other 82 HP on the same car. The 1.1 with 54 HP even has worse MPG on paper lmao
The first one is also useful If your car isn't that short, but you're... chunky. I'm 6'3", 330 lbs, and it makes it a lot easier to get in and out of my Saab 9-3. It's actually easier for me to get in that way than for my friends to do so the "normal" way.
Sports cars are awesome, and if you get the right one its sweet. So i have a BMW e92 with a 220 hp N/A 6 cylinder and bmws xDrive system. Gonna get tuned and build over the comming years, but goal is 300 hp. However it has awesome handling, where i have run with mustangs and bigger cars, who have 2-4 times my power and they struggle to keep up on a twisty backroad. On the other hand it will fit 4 full grown adults over 6 feet without issues. And doing all this while having a 440 liter boot, which is more than the estate version of the previous generation. Untill i get a kid, its the optimal car as i can load it up easly and with more than most hatchbacks. Except for the fact that the cats and sensors in them just took a massive crap so looking at a nice bill to replace them due to BMW building them into the headers, so need brand new headers.
I will always remember this one time I raced an Impala SS along this waterfront road near where I live. I had an FC RX-7 with 146 horsepower. He had his 5.7. He would get 3-4 car lengths ahead of me about 3 seconds after the road straightened out, but at even the slightest bend, I was right up his exhaust once again, and this happened at least a dozen times before we ran out of road and had to call it
1: I'm 5'7" and my 86 Camaro was long. I have to reach out to floor it. Not necessary but when you need to get up to speed or you just want to hear the engine roar this matters. 2: This is what bugs me about people who lower their cars. They don't get an air suspension to raise their car to clear speed bumps. They spent all this money on a body kit and performance parts and then money on lowering their car but did it cheaply where their car is track low and terrible for the road. It feels like the person wasn't thinking. 3: My 86 Camaro had a 16 gallon tank and the last owner rebuilt the engine. IT IS THIRSTY for fuel. 4: There are sports sedans and sports trucks. 5: There are reasons for these cars and aren't a waste. I drive a 2015 Mazda3 and I have no need for extra seats. I just need a front seat and a place to pack tools. An ideal car for me would be a Geo Metro or something similar.
Hey bladed I was rewatching some of your old videos and you were saying the same story of how you owned a Mustang Gt and used it as a stepping stone before buying your Corvette and I was wondering if you would do a video on best stepping stone or intermediate sport cars to buy before getting your dream car? It would really help and I would highly appreciate it and thank you for your videos they're helpful and entertaining
Bladed Angel. Suffering from decent income. The joke is that he could afford the Corvette, and can only get through second gear before breaking the speed limit And also car guys usually don’t have a ton of money since they spend money on there cars You see it’s a play on “Suffering from success”
Hey, I was wondering, have you played Horizon 5? What do you think of it? Also side question if you don’t mind, did you take that logo from Ace Combat? And do you still play?
bro Bladed I love your content it inspires me as a car guy to enjoy and look at cars in different way your content is gold no ads no long intros or anything every time I get a notification on your videos I click right away and bring my favorite snack and watch away keep it up man!
I totally agree with the point about some cars not being a "real sports car". Especially as someone who owns an Acura RSX. I had a coworker look bummed when I told him it was a 4 cylinder but it's the most fun vehicle I've ever owned because I can give it absolute hell (revving to 6k almost every shift) and by the end of it I'm doing 75-80 mph. It's a blast! Driving a slow car fast is a joy all car enthusiasts should experience imo.
I’m 6’3”. The problem is not getting in a small car. It’s the awkward position that my right leg is forced into with a gas pedal that’s too close and a center console that is usually too wide.
The suspension point is 100% true. My GLI's suspension will eventually be extremely painful (on the wallet and otherwise) to repair assuming I just don't maintain it properly. Informative vid!
Thanks for the explanation on Racing. I've always found them pointless and boring except when they crash. Now I'm more aware of it being important for improvements.
I bought a VW up!... a tiny 60 hp city car that you can't even buy outside of Europe... and even this small 1.0L three-cylinder is fast enough to hit most speed limits in a couple of seconds and I'm talking about Germany. Even on the famous AUTOBAHN, most routes are limited and the penalties for speeding are violent.
Really depends. I think the CR-Z was positioned more as a Sporty Coupe. Like several of the Honda Fit models from the same generation perform sportier but the CR-Z does have a pretty special interior
Facts about getting in and out of sports/ luxury cars. I have been trying to get my 86-year-old grandfather to purchase a Cadillac CT5. He loves the car but its hard for him to get in and out. I will be telling him your tactic.
Nice LS460!My dream car, getting one soon hopefully. I can’t believe you actually have one since it’s almost like opposite from sports cars, that you usually talk about
Something to add up about "Not real slow sports cars" you can actually enjoy a lower HP car on a daily basis. As stated on the video, you are already speeding on 2nd gear. When I bought my N52 powered BMW in a mint condition and with only 80k miles on the clock, everyone was bashing me about not buying a 335i they had for sale for the same price with misfires (most likely injector issues as it didn't have the upgraded index 12 injectors) and almost 200k miles on the clock. I highly enjoy being able to feel the limits of my 215HP motor on a daily basis. It's overall more enjoyable. Also, when my buddy on a 2014 modified Mustang (600ish HP) challenged me to race, I beat his ass up on a racetrack on my little 3 series N52 powered BMW as I could take the turns almost flat out while he needed to beat on the brakes or go off the track. Note this is because he modified his Mustang for 1/4 mile. In my opinion, I'd rather focus on track, and put down 10 to 15 minutes of driving on a track with a smile on my face, than focus on 1/4 mile and enjoy the car for 10 seconds.
Honestly I fell in love with the 2020 Toyota 86 hakone edition and it’s a car I do long for potentially as my first sporty enthusiast car and ever since I had my 96 E100 Corolla I always enjoyed driving my show car fast like bladed said I get more enjoyment from banking out all my gears getting up to the limit than I probably would limited the power and speed I use
I find it easiest to step my right foot in first, then my butt on the seat, then rotate and put my left leg/foot in. 60 and drive a Lotus Evora and a Porsche Boxster. The problem isn't my head clearing the roof, it's my leg clearing the steering wheel and my foot going through the gap between the door, the sill (which is very high and wide in the Lotus) and the front of the door frame (is that still considered part of the A-pillar?). If I go butt first, it's very difficult to get my right leg/foot in because the knee had to bend up to where the steering wheel is. If I can't open the door pretty much all the way, that's even worse, because not only does the knee/steering wheel thing happen, but the gap to get the foot through gets too small to fit.
To add to #4. We have a Cayman GTS that shows up to our autocross events and that guy is always in contention or taking home the fastest time of day trophy. Our club is no slouch for drivers or cars either.
To add to that wasteful argument, racing in general functions 2 ways, 1) stress testing for manufacturers 2) marketing, theres a reason why the most reputable, respected, and largest car brands in the world dabbled in one or multiple racing series. Mercedes’s F1 car (and F1 in general) isn’t just a platform to innovate and compete, its literally one of the world’s fastest moving billboards
sorry for bein a year late but i never understood how the gt/gr86 "isnt a real sports car because its slow" but the miata is one of the most widely loved cars of all time??
Agree... when environmentalists said that sports car or Motorsport is bad for the environment... here is some facts : hybrid technology was tested in Motorsport first... then mass produced. So is the digital instrument on cars and many other tech that comes in an entry level product was tested in sports car or Motorsport first. For example the LFA digital instrument gauge.
RIP Lancer EVO and Eclipse. So happy I got my 2015 Lancer SE when I did, it’s no EVO but it’s still a really zippy and fun sedan that lets me have fun on the highway while still being able to get up to the ski hill.
Another point for why it makes more sense to do limited runs of sports cars, rather than sticking new tech in normal cars: If you stick all that fancy tech into a normal car, you have just made a quasi-sports car.
I definitely agree! I have a stock v6 mustang and even tho it’s the slowest car in my family, I have so much fun with it and I can floor it whenever I want without risking safety or breaking the law
I never realized it until you pointed it out, but I guess I’ve always entered vehicles butt first lol. It also gives you the opportunity to tap your feet off before getting inside.
I only just started learning how to drive (hence RUclips recommending me all the cars content exclusively -_-), and getting into the car was legit one of the more awkward parts... Regular car... And it's not as if I never sat in the passenger seat. Anyway, I think this video legit helped me 😅. Thanks!
4:05 my dad has said if he wanted a more powerful truck he would get air springs BEFORE anything else. Air springs are adjustable to be nice AND strong. Air spring mods make 3500 useless because 2500 is the engine upgrade+suspension, 3500 uses a 2500 engine. Then he would get dualie, diesel, etc. Edit: change from 3:00
The thing with straight lines speed is really an american thing. I mean, of course we talk about the 0-100km/h in europe but we are a lot to put interest in cornering abilities too.
I'm 6'3 and I actually find most sportier card I've been in to be a hell of a lot more comfortable than normal cars also I find most small/compact cars have a ton of headroom
My 1986 honda accord was epic. 0 to 100 km 0 to 62 miles per hour in ten seconds. It was running the gears and cornering that made it fun. Serious fun at the auto cross meets.
My sensible ford family wagon (MK4 mondeo) scrapes the floor way more often than my friends highly impractical Elise. It's not been lowered or anything like that, it's just got a long overhang on the nose and has a long wheelbase so every time you go over a small speed bump it straddles it causing the belly to rub and if it's a long speed hump the front bumper scrapes when the rear goes upwards.
I may never get a car, because I much prefer motorcycles. But if I was to choose a car, it would be an original Tesla Roadster, Lotus Elise/Exige, Porsche Cayman, MX-5, Honda S2000, or a similar kit car....Thank you for teaching me the Butt-First technique. The problem is, I am a 5'11", hefty, THICC man. I was always worried about not being able to move the seat back enough, and being scrunched up around the steering wheel. How did your tall friend sit in his Miata? Where was his knees? I have a similar issue with small motorcycles. I love the Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 250 & 300, and really like the Buell Blast & Honda Grom, all for their agility & economy. I just maybe too big to comfortably ride any of them aggressively, let alone all day delivering stuff. Raw power is great. But one thing I learned is, be it Engine or EV. More power means more weight. And I really love lightweight vehicles. Prioritizing Handling, Acceleration, then Top-Speed, in that order. Screw legality. What's the point of having so much power, and the weight that comes with it, when I can't PHYSICALLY use that power whenever I want, because of obstacles like traffic, or not enough straight roads? Lighter is so much more fun & efficient.
It's super funny for me as a European to see How Americans discredit the GT86/BRZ/FR-S as a sports car because of "measly" 200hp Here in Europe our family car is a 2013 C-Class with the highest non-AMG engine spec available here (C220) and that's only 170hp and still considered beefy here. 200hp would already be considered too much for most people, because here the common census is a 90hp Golf. Another big reason many people avoid more powerful vehicles is because of insurance. In my country horsepower is the biggest cost factor and fully insuring a 200HP car is half the average rent per month

You were in control of the car, they didn't have a bunch of computers to save you. Because of that I mostly only like cars from the early 2000s and before.

The C70 chassis was co developed by TWR on the 850 platform. It's quite nimble for it's size and incredibly comfortable as well. The only downside is it's an FF layout.

Sanity’s Fricabis That’s the 1st gen. The 2nd gen was built on the P1 platform shared with the S40, C30, V50, Mazda MAZDA3 and Ford Focus
As a person that recently started to drive an GT86, I have would say that what you are saying is correct. The 86 platform is supposed to be fun to drive, but fast. Having said that, it is faster than I thought It would be. And I’m coming from a 320 HP WRX normally.
Awesome video. Easy to follow. Easy to understand. Very relatable. The BRZ are awesome cars to own and drive.
Case in point that Honda Fit was probably having the time of his life keeping up with a 700hp corvette
Because americans have straight roads and that is seen on old school muscle car steering
thats why i bought the old w220 S-class not because its the fastest or has the biggest numbers but because its the smoothest ride ever
Thanks Bladed for the trick, I'm 6'2" and just bought a fairlady and it was pretty weird going in feet first
From where I live, the biggest misconception about sports cars is that they're all fast (especially because many non-car people here think they're either Ferrari or Lamborghini).
Very, very relatable.

Same here, I’ve only got a 200hp Celica GTS but because it redlines at 8000rpm and it’s super light I 2nd gear takes me to the speed limit.

What you were saying about low power cars not being “real sports cars” is super interesting. In Australia ( at least with non car people) anything with a spoiler is considered a sports car regardless of power handling ect.
F for the RX8
Also to the point of MPG:
There is a point to be made about every car having it's "optimum" drive train as I call it, where the performance is good/acceptable without having too much consumption compared to the other engine options.

If you get a kid, just get the sedan version (E90) then.

Okay but can we talk about how much of a chad that Honda Fit was
The hacki-roku cars fallow the same logic I use to buy motorcycles. I want the most fun vehicle from zero to 100.
It's super funny for me as a European to see How Americans discredit the GT86/BRZ/FR-S as a sports car because of "measly" 200hp
Here in Europe our family car is a 2013 C-Class with the highest non-AMG engine spec available here (C220) and that's only 170hp and still considered beefy here. 200hp would already be considered too much for most people, because here the common census is a 90hp Golf.
Another big reason many people avoid more powerful vehicles is because of insurance. In my country horsepower is the biggest cost factor and fully insuring a 200HP car is half the average rent per month
That Honda fit do be slaying 😂😂
Honda Fit is generally underrated. It's pretty much the modern civic with a d series equivalent engine
