- 'Train Commuting Troops Arrive in London for Coronation'
More than 5,000 armed forces personnel travelled by train to London Waterloo before marching off to take part in the coronation. Network Rail said it was the biggest movement of military personnel on Britain's railways since Sir Winston Churchill's funeral in 1965. Members of the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and Commonwealth forces travelled to the UK's busiest railway station on Saturday morning on board nine trains. Report by Iain Jones.

The Station clock showed 0700hrs. They have already been up for hours and have a long and important day ahead. They all look immaculately turned out.Much respect and gratitude to all the military personnel who really made the coronation so spectacular.
Capital letter in Coronation. Ardent royalists should know this.
Most of these troops had breakfast at 02:15am - needles to say a very long day!!!!!!
There's something about these distinguished and excellently presented soldiers taking public transport that makes me very proud indeed. There were a few marshals, but the public were always going to be in awe. And were always going to show the greatest respect.
What a wonderful sight of our troops arriving at Waterloo station. So proud of them, and proud to be British.
Why?
@@eightiesmusic1984 Because we're amazing
Proud to be British? Have you seen the news recently?
Absolutely 100% agree. I too am proud to be British. No better Armed Forces anywhere in the world.

Lee Rigby would no doubt have been one of these fine, handome, young men yesterday. Walking tall and proud for King, Crown and country. Lest we forget. RIP Lee.

It is a shameful spectacle.

This is absolutely British!!! Take the train down to London and get to work. I love it!!! They all looked immaculate. BRAVO!!
Impeccable behaviour by all of the passengers, undoubtedly
For The Crown.
Where else could you see such a magnificent sight? 💗💗🇭🇲
They all look so amazing in their uniforms. I LOVE a military parade. My Dad was in the Australian Navy band, and he attended the coronation of Queen Elizabeth, with a contingent of Australian military personnel. I was 8 months old at the time.
Well that was cool. I would have loved to be a commuter and seen them!!
Well done to all our military so proud 👏 great heroes
These gents earn every penny of their salary. Kudos to them daily. You serve our country well❤
Plenty of ladies in there too.
@@cibojules oh yes there are. Good morning!
That has to be the largest mass of troops decended on one station since ww2
It’s the biggest movement of troops by railway since Winston Churchill’s funeral in 1965
i think that this is one of the funniest sights of the whole weekend because it is is such a british thing to do.
get the train to a major event, carrying weapons and instruments like we do it every day

Proud of been made, in the Royal Navy !
Such a wonderful and exciting site 🎉
Wowzers
They must’ve had to close all the stations and suspend the entry fees for all the soldiers
Yes, Farnborough, Alton stations were closed
Probably Aldershot was too

No other Group of Nations & the UK could do this !! Great time to be British in these rediculous times.
Congratulations King Charles lll may you have a wonderful coronation
Love how easy it is for them to catch public transport!
What an awesome site.
Safest train in Europe
Pity those carrying musical equipment weren't playing a bit of a tune as they came out, just for those who were there to see them arrive, thou I did note a couple saluted some people as they walked by
Seek and ye shall find. Westminster bridge is the only clue you'll need.
I would guess they'd sold off all the London barracks to property developers!

I am amazed the Railway unions did not strike today
They probably did, which is why the station was so empty

Ashamed to be British when I see the military and think of how indefensible monarchy is.
@@eightiesmusic1984 each to their own. We’d be stuffed without them.
@@MsPinkwolf Not remotely. People would be citizens, not subjects, and it would improve democracy. There is no argument for monarchy and it is bogus to pretend otherwise.
@@eightiesmusic1984 correct. Monarchy are filth.
@@eightiesmusic1984 There's a conundrum for ya.
"There's no argument for" is totally anti-democratic if you think about it.
No argument = no debate or discussion possible. Wrong I'm afraid. Permissible then? Aha. Fascist thought suppression, non?
I am pretty sure he slept in, this being the 1st Sat after his coronation.
good job the TRAINS were not on strike !
ULEZ is tough for everyone
Can’t believe nobody bought a ticket 🤣
Bit like the royals they make the rest of us pay for them.
there would have been a transport order (block ticket) dealt with by the officers in command
Das wollte der nahre!
Poor lads, not even a bus to bring them ...now that is austerity ! ...LoL
How would buses cope? It was deliberately done this way to follow a tradition of Elizabeth's coronation and Churchill's.
Are you saying that travelling on modern electric trains is austerity? Trains are designed for the mass transportation of people ( or soldiers) Quicker and easier by train and just a short walk over Westminster Bridge.
@@bazza3643 Are you saying the UK is not in austerity and people are happy with high inflation and a stagnant economy the worst in the G7 and perhaps all of the G20 ? Like sending the performers with their weapons in toll on public transportation is such a good idea to put on a show to make ignorant blokes think that the UK is still a global power when it is in fact not !

The most efficient way to move troops
Not if you actually wanted to catch that train. All these human robots in the way. Clogging up Waterloo to worship a family of lizards.
@@jonathanbowen3640 It is a chartered train, out of bounds to civilian passengers.
@@xfirefox_x it's taking up space on the track that could be used to transport actual humans. The public are suffering to support one family of freaks. I have used Waterloo quite a bit. They are in the way. I don't want my life disrupted by lizard Charlie.

Only in the United Kingdom will you find men in 1800s military uniforms marching through a railway station.
But they are not 1800’s military uniforms, they are 2023 ceremonial uniforms.
@@bazza3643 Would have looked even better with some steam trains though, wouldn't it?
God Save The King from Indonesia
Hey batter
Many of them were carrying guns, I hope those guns were not loaded, because they were being carried horizonally and therefore pointing at other people.
Harrumph
WAS THE TICKETS ..CHEAP RETURN...SORRY ????😮😢
You can get a UK Armed Forces discount card.
0:58 is that fabziy? 😁
I'm shocked that they aren't arriving in formation and playing those instruments! I thought they simply cannot be out of formation and NOT playing!
They fell in just round the corner from the station entrances in York Road where it's wide enough.
There's footage of them marching to the bands crossing Westminster bridge.
I find it totally bizarre they travelled on trains and not on coaches. I'm presuming that the trains must have been hired specifically for the soldiers and the military decided it was the fastest way to get them to London, but it must have cost a lot.
Our society seem to have forgotten that one of the things that railways are good at is carrying lots of people quickly and cheaply.
That many troops is a traffic jams worth of coaches, but you can pop them all on a couple of trains, more eco friendly and by the time you need a ton of coaches trains could be cheaper
@@nargilblue you don't "pop" so many people onto a train. A coach would have been far less inconvenient to the public. At least half of who don't even want a.monarchy or anything like this nonsense. If these idiots where on a train I was on I would be absolutely furious.
@@nargilblue trains rule!
Think before you speak.
There's a great big Army-sized set of long platforms at Andover - the HQ - and lots of platforms here at Waterloo station.
