@@Doodmeister0 Sure thing! The Productivity PLC line has built-in MQTT support, so I just took my desired data, put it into strings, and published it to my Home Assistant that's running the Mosquitto broker.
I love these tours. It's awesome to see what other people are doing, how they did it, and why. It's like the perfect blend of HGTV home tours with smart home stuff thrown in!
The offhand 'realfeel temperature' mention got me to finally figure out the calculations to take humidity into account when powering on my A/C unit. Thanks!
Wow this was a great example of your house working for you, making your life simpler! Loved every one of the shown automations and aligns very well with stuff I'm currently doing with esphome and being able to locally control my own hardware. Very special background which certainly helps a lot!
I’ve been eyeballing my kettle for a while now wanting to go the ESP32 route. I’m going for it after seeing this. I hope we get to see more from Chris and Janna. Great stuff!
Me too. I have also had isea about using esp32 to make my heated mattress pad come on to warm up bed. Really would like to find how he wired esp to kettle also.
@@markross5389 There are some projects out there that I used as an inspiration. Home-Barista has an article about doing that with the Bonavita kettle that you can google (RUclips isn't letting me post links). I took the one from that site and added up/down/hold button control (my wife drinks tea, and I drink coffee, so we need to change the kettle temperature all the time) as well as relay feedback so I can be notified when the kettle has heated.
I would also like to know how he wire the kettle. I was thinking of doing the same thing to just turn it on and off but it would be awesome to know how to control the temp.
loved this video, from a technical perspective with the pretty unusual integration of industiral equipment, but also the shots of their green garden, yard and the horses.

YoLink devices are part of my system and work so well from distance. Their fobs are multi button smarts that all play pretty well with alexa routines or on their own. Their sensors only one that worked for my outdoor driveway sensor and temp sensor only one I found reliable for my freezer alert from garage. is a nice setup. My setup not so detailed. They did a nice job on their place with solutions.
Wow this is next level home automation. One day I hope to be at this level but still amazing to see how users will come up with next level stuff to make life easier and cool at the same time
While I'm here, sat with my HA Yellow that stopped working last night after the 2024 update! Ugh! I'm green with envy! What a dream house for automations!
LoRa is no joke for stable, long range connections for these type of devices. I was testing some of YoLink's water sensor and I went way down our street and it was still connected.
I have an old SLC505 I've debating using as Home Auto.. buuuut work wants me to ship it in... buzzkills! However the Automation Direct stuff is dirt cheap, effective, and easy to program. WITH FREE software. Long as you stick with the Productivity line.
This is absolutely insane... Now the ingenuity is one thing but dialing them into home assistant is actually the most impressive thing ever. I'm currently trying to get my zooz light switch to work as a button with 11 chinese smart potlights and some contact and mmwave motion sensors and dialing in home assistant against smart tuya potlights has been tough. Just when i thought i had it 3 are offline im not sure if its the light itself they wont re sync onto wifi. I just had to put it on pause and use them in their on off relay function mode for now That wall of devices pulled into home assistant integrations looks awesome. Kudos
My daughter likes her KAUF rgb light switch that changes color and is also set if the button is held it will cycle through colors so she can pick whatever she wants. Super easy to integrate cause it comes preloaded with Esphome and compatible with tasmota of course
Do they not have a channel? I really want to see his kettle build. I have so many things that could use an esp32, but I have no idea how to implement it.
Awesome! I am looking into waterflow sensors because I want to get more insight into where all the water goes. I suspect a leak somewhere. So this is great info! Thanks!
I’m a project engineer for a room management company for hotels. We deal with all the automations in the rooms. There’s so many new automations I want after starting this job
Very nice. I also use all but never at this level yet, don't know that much about PLC's and always a bit frightened I break things or worse. Also nice to have so much room to think off, test an use all these automations.
I took a 4-gang switchplate and bought two decora blanks, then cut out the part of both the plate and the blanks where it needed to fit, and tapped screw holes for mounting. I'd probably print a custom plate next time, though.
@@jannakregoski4361 The home automation is awesome, but can you start a channel on the horses? I never knew I needed to know everything about having horses at home, but I desperately want to. Plenty of channels about having a horse farm with 40+ horses, but none about an at-home small-scale stable with a couple/few horses. That's the kind of super unique thing that I would become addicted to watching
Wow amazing. I’m having an issue trying to automate my HVAC diffuser. It can be programmed to for time and days but not with the HVAC system. Meaning it’ll run rather the heat/AC is on or not, so I’m wasting the scent because it’s not being pushed throughout the house. Anyone know how to automate this to turn off the diffuser or turn on the HVAC fan?
Some really great ideas. It would be nice for the industrial sensor equivalents to be available for your average home automation users. I not sure too many folk would be prepared to spend £1000 on a water flow sensor, certainly not to save on water losses. For me £1000 is four years total water usage.
Yep. Have a couple of those at work and knew the cost was ridiculous for home use. Not a feasible solution, just turns out he likely gets these free from work.
what is that device you call the home assistant at 7:40? I can see it has an Automation Direct label, but I can't read the model number. It is obviously a piece of industrial automation, but I am not familiar with this product and couldn't guess the right keyword to find it in the catalog. I'm not sure if I'd be considered a big customer of automation direct, but I've spend over $10k in the last 2 months, I'm always interested in new products.
I’ve been thinking long about getting into ESP and this kettle project seems just the right intro for me. Would you be willing to ask him to post instructions somewhere? I would be so grateful for assistance with that!
Hey love your videos. I’ve had a Hubitat for several years and have upgraded to the C8. I’m struggling to find clear information on how to integrate my nest cameras with HomeKit through the Hubitat. I don’t know if you do this kind of thing professionally, in addition to making videos or if it would be possible to pay you to help with this?
Nah, this stuff isn't terribly complicated. Lots of moving parts, but no real coding is involved (minus the PLC, but even that is pretty straightforward).
It's a Sonoff NSPanel Pro, rooted with the HomeAssistant app installed. There's also a lot of switchplate cutting and sanding involved in that one, since it doesn't fit in a standard US multigang box.
Haha, it's a Litter Robot 3 - we also have an automation to turn an air filter on right after it runs 😂 It's had its ups and downs, but overall we love it and it works much more reliably now that I've got the specific litter dialed in.
