    So many wonderful updates!
    I was a bit worried when I saw the title because I've been an early adopter, but these are for everyone! I'm especially thankful that the injection molded cases are available standalone for the EP1.
    Just a note, the website still says "Please note, because this is a 3D printed product..." even though it does say they're injection towards the top. Cheers and thank you!

    I've had 5 of the EP One since batch #3 (I think).
    They are - hands down - the best presence sensors I have.
    Other mm sensors and PIR sensors do not even compare in reliability and flexibility.
    I make heavy use of the ability to differentiate between motion and presence to trigger different automations depending on the time of day or what mode a room or the house is in.

    • @JonLinde
      @JonLinde 8 часов назад

      ... I will be ordering some more, replacing some of the other sensors I have around the house.

    Nice video.
    The only part that isn't clear is the purpose of the PIR sensor.
    You say a lot of words that don't really have meaning to be blunt 😅 the only point of substance is that PIR is the best at static presence detection. Is that really true? I thought it was for motion detection?

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  3 часа назад +1

      No, I said it in the video that it gives good flexibility for automations.
      For example, there are lots of scenarios but a common one is in some installs, the mmwave can trigger when walking past a room because it detects through a wall. So in this case, the PIR can be used for turning lights on, while the mmwave can be used to turn them off again in the automation.. Hope that helps

    The Area add on is a game changer in my use of the EPL. Thank you so much. A bit of a heads up, if any of the area entities are disabled, then the areas are not saved - which makes sense - but the add on reports it as saved.

      @EverythingSmartHome Well, can't be helped, but a few weeks is much sooner than I expected! :D
      Yeah I can imagine they're popular! Looking for a CO2 sensor was very frustrating in the past as there are so many sensors that either can communicate or that can actually measure CO2, but I only knew one that could do both and that one was 100€+

  • @CMDRSloma
    @CMDRSloma 6 часов назад

    Current using the Aqara sensor and interested in this one for the extra air sensor. I’m however wondering if it has magnets in the base. I want to put it in the kitchen corner on the bread box which I constantly have to open. The Aqara is stable on that box due to the magnet. Hope you understand the request, keep up the good work!

  • @BenvanBroekhuijsen
    @BenvanBroekhuijsen 7 часов назад

    Wow this is fantastic. I love how I can now see what the sensor is detecting in a way that makes sense.
    I already ordered the pressure molded cases for the lite a couple of months ago, and I am pleased to hear that you found a way to get rid of the stupid import taxes.
    If the value is below 150, and you pay the VAT in the webshop, in Portugal you don't pay import taxes nor handling fee at all, so that is a huge improvement.
    I noticed that you can update the MMWave firmware with an app, but after version 2.04 there have been updates anymore so I guess it is not worth the effort to try to make it updateable through HAS.
    I never understand what the hardware firmware version is supposed to be. One is on 1.03, the other at 1.07. What is the difference?

    Would the EP Lite work in a bathroom that has a pane of glass that separates the “sink area” from the shower area? Specifically, if I set the EP Lite at a 45 degree angle in the corner of the sink area, would it be able to detect me in the shower since I would be behind a pane of glass?

    Great work Lewis and team. Spent some time yesterday playing with the configurator as I was installing a Lite to replace another branded presence sensor. The exclusion zone helped as I was able to remove a ceiling fan (summer in Australia) and do not now have false positives. Might upgrade a few of my old cases as new injection ones are great. Currently have 6 Ep1's and 3 Ep Lites. Also have 1 EP lIte that some how I modified and now does not have firmware for EP Lite on it, just ESP Home. Need to find firmware, dowload and Install. And yeah, now taxes are payed at the checkout, and it's all gooder and prettier etc. I don't mind paying a bit more for what seems to be a good product. Just be honest about it, or don't say you didn't fake the deal.
    I will admit that with discount code it is a couple percent cheaper still. But after Tuesday it is not back to old price + with tax now on top, it is more than before.

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  3 часа назад

      That's not true. The price may seem higher yes, but it's not. We are simply including your countries taxes at checkout, which you would have been charged before anyways, it just wasn't visible before.

      Water-proofing would be a whole other ball game that I'm not sure we are quite at the level of yet (one day maybe!)

      I have Sonoff mmwave sensor. I tried to install it on my terrace this summer. It has a full roof and closed off from 3 sides. Even with that it was constantly firing even though I set the sensitivity to low. The wind blowing on a random leaf or even a bigger bug crawling around made it constantly trigger. It didnt really work out unfortunately.

    • @darknessblades
      @darknessblades 7 часов назад

      @@EverythingSmartHome True. waterproofing might be the hardest thing to do.
      Though it would allow people to use it in humid enviroments, like a bathroom, without risk of humidity short-circuiting the PCB
      as for outdoor detection/mmwave, this could be limited by zones, or aiming it at the bottom. since I expect people to mostly use it near a patio cover, or near their backdoor. to automatically turn on the lights.
      since I have a small yard myself, animals might not be affecting it that much, assuming you limit the range to 5 meters.
      I have no Idea ho water or rain would affect motion sensors. though there might be outdoor motion sensors that would filter out the rain/wind. at least I assume that based on cheapo waterproof, solar led lights with motion sensor.

    • @darknessblades
      @darknessblades 7 часов назад

    Weird, I just found a repo that builds configs with any amount of zones, exclusion zones, angle of placement, etc. buddy did all that work a month or two ago and all of a sudden your sensors have the exact same feature set.

    I think, main change I would add is to have option for,
    1. Battery Power
    2. Power over Ethernet
    The USB-C is really not friendly.
    and also the fact that it has to communicate wirelessly causing traffic between the other signals.
    especially when it is not just 1 single device in a house but multiple all over the house.
    edit: if possible (I do not if it is) make the USB-C receive network as well as power.
    Like how on phones, you can use Ethernet-to-USB dongle and connect the phone to your network.

    The Everything Presence "Lite" - Zone Configurator, doesn't work with the EP1?

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  7 часов назад +2

      The EP1 doesn't support zones (discussed in depth in this video) so there is no reason to use it with the zone configurator

    I've tried to use the zone configurator tool with an EPL and I keep getting "Status: Error Fetching Data" - restarted HA, restarted the EPL, and confirmed the EPL is functional. Any ideas?

    It seems that the software is set for metric, but (somehow) I set my device to inches. So, all of the detections show to be VERY close to the module rather than in their proper location. Not sure if it's just me, if I found a way to break something else, or something simple that I'm missing, but maybe there is a better way to set that?

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  8 часов назад

      Yeah that is a limitation just now, it must be in mm (which is the default) so you would need to change it back to mm - hopefully inches can be a feature added soon!

    Can either be ceiling mounted?

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  8 часов назад

      Technically yes but it's not ideal (especially in the case of the Lite) because zones wouldn't function properly since the Y axis would effectively be non functional

    I have my EP1 in my office, so my cat doesn't often trigger it, but sometimes my cat gets stuck in my office and constantly triggers my EP1. I want mmwave sensors around my house, but I need to know how to keep my cat from triggering the sensor. Does anyone have feedback for this? How do you tune a mmwave sensor so it is triggered only by human sized animals and not 13lb cats?

    its too bad, i could see wanting zones + presence in the bedroom.
    Presence to it knows when im there, and then zones so when i get out of bed at night, i get a very dim under-bed light
