    Time, patience and some dynamite will free it up. If done right, it will also take care of the pumpkin.

    This might be strange but fill it up with white vinegar!!! eats rust like nobody's business!!!

  • @grafton261
    @grafton261 8 лет назад +2

    I have used white vinegar to dissolve rust , you need to clean the oil etc out before you try though as it won't work through oil

  • @butre.
    @butre. 8 лет назад +2

    I prefer using acetone because it does evaporate. means it'll penetrate in and then when the acetone evaps it won't go anywhere

    i made a hydro jack tool that attaches to the big rod end.. and applies about 1000lbs of pressure and then just tap the cyl with a rubber mallet a few times until it comes lose..

    It's gunna take some time I recon...I had to unseize a boat engine once to use the block and crank and heads...Lots of soaking and banging on stuff.There's a vid of the outcome somewhere.

    Can you put the end cap on the big end, pit a rope through it, chock the engine so it won't move and pull it with a car/ jack while tapping the cylinder in the water hopper?

  • @shanemacdonnacha4193
    @shanemacdonnacha4193 8 лет назад +2

    How about you tie the engine to the tree and the con rod to a truck or tractor and floor it :)
    Looking forward to the next glass head brig's update. Thanks.

    Hi Road King / Buddy/ A couple of ideas that have worked for me... make a fire in the hopper... or dump hot briquettes in there ... or better yet turn it upside down and make a fire under the hopper... heat really helps free the piston... also atf and acetone are the best penetrant... use a plate and a pressure washer to push out the piston... just some thoughts... maybe you or others already know about it... good luck... keep the vids coming!

    I wonder if you guys could use that concoction and some compressed air. So i had this older BMW motor and i really wanted to make it work, was my great grandpa's motorcycle and it was completely rusted inside the left cylinder. An old timer told me to simply fill the cylinder with kerosene and liquid paraffin and then he made me a fitting that went in the spark plug hole and fit to a compressed air hose. It freed up the piston in 3 4 days from so much rust that i actually had to de-line the cylinder for a sleeve. I might be wrong on the mix that went inside, this was 10 or 12 years ago, barely knew anything back then.

    • @johnlucas2037
      @johnlucas2037 8 лет назад

      compressed air is dangerous as hell... please don't try that... use water and a pressure washer... make sure to get all the air out...

    What if you cap it off and then heat the cylinder. I know this sometimes works with stuck caliper bolt as long as there is some grease in there. As you heated it hit the connection rod with a hammer or try spinning it. This is kind of a uncontrolled pressure but the added heat may help

    You are going to be watching for leakage coming out the bottom, maybe a tub or bucket to catch it. Would it be posible to seal the top end off, turn the whole thing over ad fill the crank end and allow it to soak also?

    One diesel I rebuilt had 12 inch pistons and that was the small one. That was aboard a Coast Guard Buoy Tender from the 40s. The other Cutter had 18 inch pistons.

    Wow, I've never seen a pumpkin in a tree before, never even knew that could happen. Good luck with the coolaid, I did an acid bath once (vinegar) and that removed the rust. Then I hit it with diesel for a week. Ive heard of using transmission fluid, but never had it kicking around.

    Pull that pipe plug out of the head and put a brass rod down it, that wack it with a big hammer. The brass won't damage the piston it it has some type of groove or cups on the face of it. That might get it moving just enough to yank it out the back side with a slide hammer

    • @davidschaadt3460

      It might help but I know someone who popped a hole in the piston but they got the piston welded and got the engine running .

    The moment of truth is coming.. will it move? hope it does! You're right, it's a big piston and they do present bigger problems when corrosion sets in. It depends how far the water migrated too. Good luck with it!

    I dont know if this will work on this engine but seen it done on smaller siezed pistons here in the UK. Could you take the plug out of the end of the bore and make a new one but with a grease nipple or similar on the end? As liquid doesnt compress and you pump more fluid in in theory it should shove the piston out
