It looks like those wobbly bevel gears soon could be stripped. It makes me wonder how many years passed before they used more bevel gears to balance the thrust loads.
Superb old motor. I remember grandpa warning with any hand cranked motor... crank with an open hand. So WHEN it kicks back it won't BREAK the hand. Ever have issues with that with this little engine?
The motor is connected to a battery for spark? I am taking a wild guess that the generator is no longer there or does not function possibly? It is fascinating to see such an old motor!
Early motors didn’t have magnetos. The spark was provided by the battery and buzz coil residing in the boat. The first outboard magneto came out in 1914, but battery ignition would remain an option on some motors until about 1940.

@@helloworld6160 yeah especially if you got into some sand and i just wore the gears away, I know that gear housings of today use oil, you would be surprised how well water works...
That is how many things were built back then; people didn't run to a store and buy things, they built what they needed or wanted from what they had or could find. They were the original "makers".
I imagine Mustie will have one of these "will it run" videos very soon.
We will have to watch out for that one.
wow! the oil dripper on the intake manifold?
also many part were "fixed" but can you imagine having such a engine in 1909! what a luxury!
It's a luxury to have one now!
That’s fantastic. I didn’t know there was one of those in the chapter. Big thumbs up! Please post a longer video of it running.
Thank you! Will do once Chris finishes rebuilding the powerhead.
Love how the bevel gears are just in the water.
Wow never seen one like this bravo .
I love old outboards thank you very much for that video
Thank you for watching and enjoying.
Amazing great grandpa engine! Thank you for showing
Thank you for watching.
Very nice
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Can you imagine, being on a Canadian lake….way north….fall, spitting snow…wind, .freezing cold, miles to go…..depending on this to get you back home.
It would be worth the effort. Anything beats rowing.

The exposed gears are wild !
and the row boat goes putt putt putt........ cool lil outboard!
Certainly one of my favourite antique outboard motors.
Nice engine. Did they produce many?
Thanks. They did not produce too many.
Awesome and wonderful to watch!
Thanks
Look at those exposed gears, pretty cool .
don't think I would venture very far offshore with that rig!!!
That was GREAT!!! Love it!!
Are you Tony the tiger?
Glad you enjoyed it!
Super cool never seen 1 like it before. I just don't understand what the power is for. Is it to make the coil give spark?
The motor has no magneto. It has only a timer (points) that controls when the battery and buzz coil in the boat will spark the plug.
Superb old motor. I remember grandpa warning with any hand cranked motor... crank with an open hand. So WHEN it kicks back it won't BREAK the hand. Ever have issues with that with this little engine?
He was a wise man. This motor doesn’t really suffer from that issue.
Old motors are the Best 💪
Agreed!
im an outboard enthusiast nd this is super cool does the piston on that move vertical or horizontal
Thanks for watching. The piston moves vertically.
Extremely rare motor, especially one that runs...
Love these old engines. Feed something round into that exhaust pipe and you'd have a machine gun.
I like old shit, but damn, that's old.

I hope that motor is going before that boat goes over the rapidly approaching 100 foot spillway... lmao 🤣
lol
Very cool!!
I like that that's old school I cam remember a motor the called it a Waterloo with I could find one
I'm not familiar with that one. Must be very rare.
What’s not to love !
Agreed!
Hello!! Can I use it video on my channel?
Yes. We would be very honoured. Feel free to share any of our videos.

I’m half expectin Mark Twain to pop out and ask what the hell ya doin in his bathtub
I hope that happens.
Nice engine 😉👍👍🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
Is that the one that travels at the speed of smell?
It depends. How fast can you smell?
I would have given up trying to start that vintage motor years ago .
It has since been rebuilt. Starts much easier now.
That one will never set any speed records!
Nope, but you’ll get there in style.
i bet it did in 1909..lol
Hi boats in Thailand use a different type of motors not outboards

«Дружба» - интересная бензопила. Спасибо, что поделился. Мы мало знаем о машинах, которые производились и использовались в СССР.

wow !!!
Back in the day i guess an engine like that was better than paddling. But not much better!
Outboards like this opened up a world of possibilities both commercially and recreationally.
Love it
Thanks!
Probably still better than rowing
Way better.
Beats rowing!
Sure does!
I see why not many were produced.
They sold a decent amount of them. This was the first commercially successful outboard motor.
feel like ive seen this in old mickey mouse cartoons growing up
That gives me the giggles

The drive gear exposed must have been this motors downfall
provides cooling and lube...
@@kdknitro I was thinking debris. I would think water cooling only goes so far, conventional outboards use oil for that reason.

It was redesigned later.
Get some shrink connectors bud
This engine looks like it was made in someone's garage with spare parts they had lying around.
That is basically what the inventor did.
That is how many things were built back then; people didn't run to a store and buy things, they built what they needed or wanted from what they had or could find. They were the original "makers".
1 Pebble gonna make this extinct lol
Not the best gear case design.
It sounds like a machine gun
Feels like one, too.
esta bueno para poner en un bici jajaja
El motor original de 1906 usaba un motor de motocicleta.
На глиссер вылетает
