Hey man I’m only 17 but I still know about it, may have not grew up at the time of its release but I played so much Mario sunshine and watched so many vids on it lol
@@GameXplain granted, "its a reference to an ancient meme" isn't much more complex, especially since I'm sure many other people are at least AWARE of the Shine Get being specifically in Japan that game was so broken and yet everyone else got the slightly patched up version..
As a member of Planet Gamecube back then and today(NWR) and seeing the coverage of Super Mario Sunshine back then I was surprised seeing it in the original and the remake. Shine Get!
Thanks for the explanation on this! Back when I played it on the gamecube I did not get that reference at all, probably because I wasn't that excited about Mario Sunshine when it was announced.
Thats cool to see still be a thing Also in that tribute game bug fable it's basically filled with memes like "parry this you filthy casual" and such but I'll play that again after ttyd
I grew up with both of these games but I didn't know jack about this being a meme. Mainly because I didn't really use the internet until 2009 when dial-up was finally obsolete.
👽 Ancient Gaming Scholars and Arcade Theorists suggest that SHINE GET foretold the coming meme lore of our time period and culture in the new age, where referential language references itself, again and again through space time. 🗿
The Henry Stickmin game Infiltrating the Airship references this when obtaining a key, where it says “Key Get!” on the screen, and the remastered version in The Henry Stickmin Collection has an additional instance when going through the secret path to get the sword, where it says “BIGGOL SWORD GET!” on the screen when you obtain the sword!
Man, I did not know at first when I was little back in early 2000s at the time when The GameCube and GBA were around at the time. And now, it’s here. I can’t believe it I missed out on that. I hope next time I better not miss a new meme.
I haven't played Sunshine in probably 20 years and I guess my memory was playing tricks on me because I legitimately thought it said Shine Get! in the English release until you explained.
I most've just gaslit myself, because I because I thought Shine Get was in the US version of Sunshine. To be clear, I never knew about the meme. I didn't start using the internet until the Wii era
Game came out yesterday. Kids haven't played it. RUclipsrs tell kids to play it. Kids want to absorb every single possible piece of information so they'll sound smarter than the other kids on Discord. Clicks mean money.
Can we not re-write history? People knew what memes were back then. 20 years ago isn't 70 years ago, this is the internet you can't just lie on it and get away with it, people on the internet right now were there 20 years ago. A very popular MEME from the time was the orly owl, that started in 2003, a year before this game came out. Memes were around back then.
this is the first time i ever even heard of that. i never had talked to the bird like that so i didn't know it said shine get. also i didn't know Japanese mario sunshine said that.
This is probably a product of the remake taking from the Japanese script. I don’t know if it was in the original English version or not but if it wasn’t that’s probably why
It's hard to believe there are people who don't know the history (or really anything) of the phrase "Shine Get!" these days. I'm old...
Sad.
I am born after Mario Sunshine's release, but I still know it from NATHANIEL BANDY!
Hey man I’m only 17 but I still know about it, may have not grew up at the time of its release but I played so much Mario sunshine and watched so many vids on it lol
man i never used the internet up until 2018 and even then it took me 4 years to learn english and dive into that side of internet
I’m just 18 and I get it 🤷♂️
And in Paper Mario Color Splash they also referenced the Luigi Death Stare.
People didn’t realise this? This is the first time I’m hearing about this and I IMMEDIATELY made the connection

Shine Get
I know what it was referencing, I just didn’t know how talked about it was at the time
"Shine Get" is the opposite of "Throw Shade"

NO WAY YOU'RE TELLING ME SHINE GET IS A SUNSHINE REFERENCE??
Next you're gonna tell me Yoshi Circuit is in the shape of Yoshi
It's not **just** a Mario Sunshine reference though, which is the point of the video

It's why Ash says a similar type phrase when he catches a new pokemon in Japan.
Captain America: I understood that reference.
Thanks for the explanation on this! Back when I played it on the gamecube I did not get that reference at all, probably because I wasn't that excited about Mario Sunshine when it was announced.
i like how the crows dilouge has not aged a bit

Back in the game cube days they loved so much shines from sunshine that they included them in TTYD. They even made it in Mario Kart.
Did you know the Internets oldest meme "Bert Is evil" had It's own website that no longer exists
I did not! Fascinating....

I didn't say memes didn't exist; I was saying they weren't known as "memes" then
Before meme culture? We've had Internet meme culture since Web 1.0, and memes like Kilroy existed far before personal computers.

That’s crazy. I thought they said Shine Get in the English version because I’ve seen it before. Maybe it was in speedruns using Japanese Text.
