blue spots on toad in smb2 is due to pallette limitations. theres a LOT of weirdly-colored nes sprites because the nes can only show so many colors on screen at once.
At least according to the European version of Yoshi's Island, the different Yoshis had unique names: Yoshi (green), Jonny (light blue), Sunny (yellow), Claudi (pink), Eddi (orange), Netty (red), Tommi (deep blue), Marci (purple).
All the Yoshies are named Yoshi excluding Boshi and the Mini Yoshi you get to name. The Main Yoshi is a Green Yoshi who is Mario's buddy Yoshi who hatched at the end of Yoshi's Island DS.
Correct if I'm wrong but wasn't Captain Toad not being the same as OUR Toad confirmed as far back as Super Mario Galaxy where Captain Toad wears a red vest? Edit: Also, fun fact (or not): Toadsworth was actually supposed to be in the movie but was cut. Nuff said.
there's three toads: toad - THE toad toad - the blue toad that goes on adventures toad - any other toad that may or may not go on adventures (yellow toad)
What I think is that there are seven main toads (the original Mushroom Retainers), which can be told apart by the blue outfit despite being red toads (there are eight of them in Mario 64 and multiple in Paper Mario series but whatever), and in every game where we play as a toad with these features, he is one of the seven. Which one exactly? Who knows, maybe there is a different one each time. Using this logic, in 3D World, we wouldn't be playing as a Mushroom Retainer, but as a blue toad. Again, there could be a different blue/yellow toad each time
Honestly, i love the name "Little Toadie" and wish they kept it. If anything, i wish they gave each playable toad a unique name like Toadette and Toadsworth.
Okay so Toad is not just the species name but also the name of a other Toads as well. The Main Toad we all know and love is wears exclusively a blue vest and brown shoes and always has a red cap. The one in SMB2USA is supposed to be a Red cap as seen in the official art and in All Stars. As for the vest, him always wearing a blue vest a detail they used to make him distinct in SMRPG when they gave the other Toads red vests. The Nintendo Character Manual From 1993 Is Not Canon as it is was solely intended for marketing purposes here in the west. It also got a lot wrong about the lore of the characters. For example, it mentions the Mushroom King, Bowser's description says that Koopas hate and fear him, and Mario is also described to deal with bathrooms even though he is intended to be a construction plumber in games. So, the notes about Toad's whereabouts in Super Mario Bros. is incorrect. So the Toad Retainers show up in games like Super Mario RPG and Mario The Juggler. So everyone just assumes that is the Toad in Super Mario 3D World, but it is just Blue Toad. They only call Blue Toad by that name if the Main Toad or Yellow Toad are around, if not they just call him Toad. But let's say it is the Toad, well Toads can change their cap color. Yes Captain Toad is indeed not the Main Toad who was in Wario's Woods and Super Mario bros. 2 USA. He could have but he also could have went to live with Lady Lima in retirement. He could also just be somewhere offscreen. In addition, Toadsworth's cap isn't not rotting, it's looked like that when he was younger as seen in Mario & Luigi: Partner's In Time.
I feel like Nintendo just needs to follow what the new movie and RPG remake did: just have Toad be the only one to have the red cap and blue vest. I felt like they solved this and was content with the decision, but then in Brothership they had several toads sporting that look, and EVERY toad was labeled with the name Toad… 🤨 Two steps forward one step back I guess…
I made an interpratation of Toad the character where he became bitter and pretty much depressed because his parents didn't exactly like him (I'm not sure if you can mutually love your child and literally not give them a name besides just naming them after your species) and was somewhat bullied. I would have changed his name and/or design but it would have felt like making a completely new character, which I don't mind, but that wasn't the point of trying to make interpretation of Toad the character.
So apparently the Yellow and Blue Toads actually have names with the yellow one's name being Ala-Gold and the blue one's name being Bucken-Berry. (However those names were never confirmed by Nintendo, and are most likely fan names so take that with a grain of salt)
I wish the main Toad in the Mario Movie was named Captain Toad, there's more name & design variety from the freakin' Minions, Minions have more variety in terms of height & number of eyes; 1 or 2. & they have many unique disguise's. Meanwhile the Mario Movie just has copy & paste Toad's all over only having like 5 different colors from each other.
@@MrAwsomeness360 The movie doesn't retcon anything, it changes their relationship as a way to differeiate the 2 different continuities and give Mario and DK something to relate to each other over.
Nintendo just hates Toadsworth and most the other „unique Toads“ for some reason. They see a Toad that’s a small kid or a woman or something and go „absolutely not“. The Mario movie was supposed to feature Toadsworth and other unique designs, but then Nintendo came in and was like „no, they’re supposed to all look the same“ and that just makes me sad. If weird forgotten characters like Foreman Spike can be there, why not Toadsworth?
Mario series commonly calling a character of a species by their species name. That would be like having a kid and naming them "Human".
There is literally a Mario Golf side character that is a human called "Kid" lol
Yeah it's a common trope in media
so you... didn't name your firstborn son human? you're kind of weird but ok
i love this video. reminds me of the kind of stuff id watch as a kid in the early 2010s.

Yeah we see in All Stars they get him his red cap
The same thing could be said about Yoshi. Is it the main Yoshi or a different Yoshi?

Remakes of Super Mario Bros. 2 always portray Toad with red spots, so it's pretty safe to say he's supposed to be the main Toad.

“There’s nothing to say about Toadette” I mean… she hates unions and she might be secretly evil but ig we can sweep that under the rug

@Goomba1309 most likely
Wasn't Toadsworth cut from the movie because the director wanted a Leader Toad that has a Deep voice and you can take seriously?
I think it's the same Toad wearing a Red vest in Sunshine.

Well the name comes from the Nintendo Character Manual From 1993 which made up a bunch of stuff about the characters.
the toad is a mushroom

Happy Toad Tuesday, everybody
im pretty sure the yellow and blue toads are named bucken-Berry(for the blue one) and alan-gold(for the yellow one) when nsmbw came out
Those were just fan-made names.
the only problem i have is the ugly filter on the NES emulator, video is formatted pretty nice tho

I agree but it has been pointed out you can tell which Toad it is by the way they speak to you, for example like when he showed up in SM64.
@ Huh, that’s interesting… is there a certain video or article you can point me to that lists which Toad is THE Toad based on their in game dialogue?

If the movie version can retcon DK and Cranky as father and son, then there is a high chance Peach promotes Toad to a captain rank.

Well, maybe some the facts they’re spitting aren’t true, maybe they just like going by different names but they don’t like showing us.
