A tip for Metsu Shoryugeki: Get a palico with the move "Summeown Endemic Life". Your cat will regularly bring you a third wirebug, making using the skill a lot easier and less punishing.
yeah, i am getting rid of healing bubble on one of mine and having both do it... i spam it every time im under the monster head whether i counter or not, the KO potential is tooo darn good. though the damage is nice when you do actually time it right.
Thanks for the tips, now Summeown Endemic Life and Wirebug Whisperer are my must-have skills for SnS. It's even better in arena where we're only given 1 wirebug for the whole fight.
Running raw damage slugger is SO satisfying! Between the Hard Bash, Shoryuken, and slide attack into Falling Bash, I don't even main the Sword and Shield. I main the Shield.
Agreed! The only thing that would make this a cooler, more well-rounded weapon is if it gains another counter/dodge move similar to the longsword's iai spirit slash or fade slash.
Things not mentioned in the video: -sliding slash has an immediately after the 1st hit(strict timing) -if your falling shadow doesn't hit, you can still use plunging thrust(great for stopping your momentum)
Great Tutorial! Just one note as an SnS main: You can back hop after any move in a combo, including Spinning Reaper, so something i have found really nice it to loop Perfect Rush by ending it with the spinning reaper and then back hopping and starting Perfect Rush. In addition if the opening isn’t large you can do the shield bash/drill slash combo, end with spinning reaper, and then back hop into advancing slash/sliding slash, and then repeat. Not sure it this is the absolute most damaging combo but it’s been what I’m using (the inputs are Forward + A, A, A, X+A, Back + A but don’t hold back or A, and then repeat). I find this combo works best with Sliding slash and Drill Slash, however it works well will any configuration of skills
It's worth mentioning that from most SnS attacks that launch you up into the air you can use your Falling Shadow. It's not exactly useful for damage, but its pretty useful if you're up in the air and the monster is about to do something that'd swat you outta the sky and you need to get out of the way.
Aww flip really? I love my sliding slash but I've been caught stuck in the air during a big monster wind-up so many times. That is WONDERFUL to know I have an escape option up there.
Yeah, when I saw Rurikhan's video go up thought it was Arrekkz at first, but later on when I went back to find it it wasn't there on Arrekkz channel (because obviously). But I watched Rurikhan's this morning and this got uploaded just as I finished it. Lol
@@caseycoker1051 oh damn. I know what you mean, he was real passionate. I love that though. I got to check this one also. Random question: what’s your main and 2nd? Mine is GS- main/ SnS - 2nd
SnS 1st and longsword 2nd I guess... Honestly I jump around a lot. I like switch axe and Insect glaive a lot as well. I've been trying to get into dual blades this time around but I don't know if I really feel it.
honestly man, yhis is the best series ever. i never feel like I'm overwhelmed by information while watching your workshops and i always feel far more confident in my ability afterwards. thank you so much
Protip: While S&S is a weapon that has no skills unique to it, it does benefit greatly from Wirebug Whisperer 3. The reduced cooldown on it's silkbinds is a welcome improvement, as Metsu Shoryugeki's damage output helps (Metsu is considered more useful than Windmill due to being able to target a monster's individual parts or head more easily, making tripping or KOing more consistent).
A few things I'd like to add: Falling Shadow has some few extra properties that were not mentioned: you can use the move midair to cancel other moves you were currently doing, for example you can use Falling Shadow, do the jumping slashes and use another Falling Shadow instead of committing to the falling bash/slash, which can be useful if you notice the monster's starting to attack you or if it's moving to reposition. You can also cancel the jump you do during the perfect rush with the Falling Shadow.
Thanks a lot for this guide! It has definitely allowed me to learn the rhythm of SnS from a comprehensive perspective and/or approach; when I got back in game to try out the things mentioned in here, it was as if I'd "leveled up"! I now really enjoy and appreciate SnS as a weapon - much to my own surprise, as well: I'd expected it to be boring before I got the hang of it. All in all, thanks for opening my eyes up for this weapon, and thanks for your video!
Dude...watching these takes me back to watching your old weapon guides for MHW. Thanks to you I'm able to take on all the monsters damageless at times thatnks for the great vids and all the hard work you put in them :)
Great tutorials as always. Handy note, you can access the items in the shortcuts menu by holding L while your sword is out as well instead of the standard Zr and Y.
One thing I've noticed is that the sns also has an...okayish ranged damage option, though technically everyone has it. Since we have unlimited kunai it means you can spam them in moments where it's not safe to approach. Throw in the dango skill that increases kunai damage and you're replacing what would be 0 dps downtime into a small trickle of damage. It also means you can bide your time a bit easier when fighting annoying monsters that keep bouncing attacks.
One thing i like about the Falling Shadow silkbind move is that even if you dont hit with the launching attack, you can cancel out of it with a plunging strike. its useful if you are sailing over the monsters head.
Glad this one was up next; I'm maining HH and SNS. And now that I've made virtually every horn I wanted, I just started moving on to the SNS last night.
Damn I came in here expecting you to have a basic understanding of the weapon. I can see why your channel is so successful. No bullshit while still very detailed and thorough. Awesome, and thanks!
As a veteran sword and shield user myself, I got to say I did not know about some of the small things, like no tripping on advancing slash. Thank you for a comprehensive video.
So far following this series, picked up HH absolutely loving it. Probably gonna pick this up and try it out. Feels good to get a rudimentary + some deep dive advice and insight on these weapons to overcome that comfort zone of just maining 1 weapon. Thanks a lot Arekkz and the Arekkz Gaming Team!
Full time Hammerbro checking in. I’ve been wanting to try SnS, perfect timing! This was a well made, well thought out - complete picture tutorial. Perfect! Thanks Arekkz! See you on the next weapon!
I've found the windmill slash while not the most damage attack, since you're swinging the sword around its great for building severing damage on the tail and making the cut
The guard slash is actually really useful cause you can initiate it right in the middle of a combo which leads to putting up your shield really fast while keeping up the onslaught
One thing that's great to mention about the falling shadow silkbind move is that it has some invincibility on the aerial slash portion and when you land the hit. This can be useful if you want to time falling shadow into the end of a monster's charge where it will still have a lingering hitbox.
Even though I CAnT WAiT for the insect glaive video this series is so entertaining! This series made me pick up the long sword and now it’s my second main ^^
Every time I decided to switch new weapons I always come here to really learn a good foundation. Plus I get to watch in amazement as you then preform a beautiful hunt. Thanks you for the amazing videos.
You’re the best man! Best weapons workshop on RUclips. Been a fan since MHW and I’ve been on a hiatus for a long minute. Got Rise/Sunbreak just recently and the first thing I did was look for a tutorial of yours to get back in touch!
Man the meme weapon became actually fucking crazy good. The fact that your shield attack combo is not just for inflicting stun but also deals good damage is just great
I literally just got Monster Hunter Rise because of how well recommended it is and I am torn between Sword and Shield and Hunting Horn. I love musical buff weapons but I struggle to use slow weapons. Was a Sword and Shield main in previous games and it does flow very well in this one. Glad to see you've covered both my choices already! That should help me make a decision.
As a SNS user since MH1 on PS2, I'm IN LOVE with the Down Thrust from Wirebug and the Thrust and Twist. Both combined make for non-stop offensive onslaughts that are just incredibly fun and make heavier weapons seem super duper clunky now.
Awesome video, mate. The effort and detail required to provide such an incredibly in depth tutorial is hugely appreciated!! I've not play MH since Tri on the Wii and am soooooooo excited to get stuck in to this game. SnS main back then, so delighted to see this video 👍
I am super new to Monster Hunter in general (dabbled a little in World). I picked up Rise last week and I'm loving it, but at the moment work is definitely getting in the way of playing more. I've been switching between Long Sword, Dual Blades, and Sword and Shield for the first few hunts to get a feeling for what I like the most out of "beginner" weapons. I really like the Sword and Shield playstyle, and this helps a lot. Thanks.
SnS feels absolutely fantastic in Rise. Solid mobility, the shield bashes are faster AND deal more damage, flexible combo game, vertical movement, a shoryuken, and more One of my favorites in this game, hands down
This is excellent! My girlfriend started playing and she gravitated towards the sword and shield which has been my main weapon in Rise too! I learned alot and I'm sure she will too!
I use a mixed set, I got a Barroth piece, a Jyura piece, and Nargacuga pieces. It’s a mix of evasion and guard skills, with a Constitution skill piece to top it off.
I'm kind of a new player to MH, started with World and mained longsword, it was a bit overwhelming to try to learn other weapons while also learning everything else in the game. Now with Rise these guides are definitely hyping me up to try new stuff, already want to try HH and SnS. That's 2/2!
And here I was, thinking the SnS was the "newcomer" weapon. This thing has like eighty seven different moves! I gotta try it sometimes. Thanks for the video!
I'd like to add one more thing. You can input a new direction for a perfect rush combo off of a dodge/roll. Example: tilt your stick to the left after a forward roll and press A to backhop to your left, you'll then start the PR combo to your right :)
Hey Arekkz! Just want to say that all of your MHR Weapon Tutorials are superb! Thank you for doing this. I appreciate it alot! Can't wait for the BOW Tutorial hehehe :)
Shield bash also drains Monster stamina using blunt damage. So if you open up with the shield combo you can slow down the monster for bigger attacks like the Rush combo.
So glad I'm able to go back and watch one of my favorite weapon workshops now that I'm back into MH Rise on console and hear from our old boy Arekkz :) best wishes team can't wait to see more from you guys!💪🤙🤘
Just started practicing with SnS ever since I got that Ninja Sword with that 100% crit rate. This video helps SO MUCH. And man, this weapon feels _so good!_
Went Sword and Shield for the first time on PC MHR and I have to say I love it. Couple minor notes to this.. Ending Perfect Rush with Spinning reaper is better than expected because the thrust has to be spot on and sometimes I'm not lined up perfectly for the final attack. The thing I love the most about this weapon the wide variety of armor skills that provide a benefit with this weapon.... pretty much everything that isn't related to phials or ranged specific can be useful. On Hammer I love gunning for the head non-stop although it gets less effective as the fight goes on. On Greatsword I loved me some tail chopping. On Dual Blades I love the speed and fast attacks. I feel like I have access to all three of these playstyles built into this one weapon. It's a little harder to KO or to chop a tail, but it's totally doable... and I would say that because resistance builds up against the same type of attack over time against a monster this weapon is extra rewarding (IE... easier to get 1 stun and 1 paralyze than it is to get 2 stuns). I typically prioritize the tail first and once it's chopped I focus on the head, and along the way I usually get a few additional parts broken as well. Last little comment - I only have access to windmill so far, and I think my favorite thing about it is how easy it makes it to mount/ride monsters. I always start a hunt by going to the non-target monster for a quick mount and some starter damage and usually I just pop windmill right on top of the monster and it's ready to be mounted (aerial attacks and wirebug attacks trigger mount/riding in MHR). Oh yeah.. and even though this uses both wirebugs, once you mount the monster wirebugs/dodges are immediately reset, so there's no downside. That being said I'm sure I'll be swapping to Metsu Shoryugeki once I have it unlocked... both the guard point and the sharpness preservation seem top tier.
Usually I use the insect glaive on all of the monster hunter games but this time I decided to switch things up and use a different weapon. SnS did not disappoint!
A common mistake newcomers make with SnS is using Potions and stuff with their weapon out. While the weapon does let you do this, it's just faster to sheath your weapon and drink the potion since you can run while doing so. The true power of using items with SnS are things like Flash bombs (for Rathalos) and Sonic bombs (for Diablos).
In rise you can actually run whilst using the item with the weapon drawn out. Just start chugging the potion and press the sprint button you will sprint the same way you can when its sheathed. It's new to rise during world/ice you would be stuck at a walking pace.
@@rockySP4S It's a huge change. Sheathing speed though has been reduced alot in Rise which has reduced it being such a strong perk of sword and shield in previous games.
The video is not even started that i'm super exited. Been waiting for this one. I hated SNS in world and for some reason it clicked in Rise. Thanks for this guide
Weapon to beginers they said, it will be fun they said. Video 33minutes lenght shows multiple combined combos, counter and skils = suprised pikachu face

@@xx_another_argent_xx It has that same thrusting animation at the end too, so I agree
What's G-rank?
@@joselocombi6127 master rank but differant name. There is literally no difference between g and master rank.
So glad I'm able to go back and watch one of my favorite weapon workshops now that I'm back into MH Rise on console and hear from our old boy Arekkz :) best wishes team can't wait to see more from you guys!💪🤙🤘
Haven’t watched the whole video yet but can tell this took a lot of work and is well worth a like and subscribe. Thank you.
Just started practicing with SnS ever since I got that Ninja Sword with that 100% crit rate. This video helps SO MUCH. And man, this weapon feels _so good!_
That's a badass guide, love seeing all the different combo options and playstyles the SnS has!
That being said I'm sure I'll be swapping to Metsu Shoryugeki once I have it unlocked... both the guard point and the sharpness preservation seem top tier.
always wanted to get into SnS but looked so daunting at first glance
thanks for the vid
I wasn’t going to play more tonight, but I think I may give a couple hints a go after I do some work. Cheers to your good work, Arrekz Gaming team
Was just about to set the HH down and pick up SnS today. Perfect timing on the vid, thanks!
Great video, thanks! I m already doing pretty well with SnS but this still made me learn a ton of things and i now know how to improve from here :)
Weapon to beginers they said, it will be fun they said. Video 33minutes lenght shows multiple combined combos, counter and skils = suprised pikachu face
Thank you for making this video. I got mh rise on pc and was wondering how to properly use my favorite weapon in this game. It felt so new so watching the video helped me so much
I'm waiting on Dual Blades baby!!! But love me some Sword and Shield!!
Yessssir them dual blades hit different!! 🔥🙌🏾💯
You really stepped your tutorial game up. I'll be referring back here next year when this drops on PC.
