There’s so much stuff the game doesn’t tell you about the weapons. Thanks for the guide, I’ve been trying to learn longsword but I wasn’t going anywhere. This helped 👍
Longsword is more fearsome then ever in MP. Not only does it trips your teammates, it also has those insane slashing effects now that blocks the sight of your teammate. Especially in this generation where guard points, quick evades, parrying skills are most useful then ever where having a precise view of the monsters' movement is crucial.
Thank you for these guides! Literally, I religiously learn weapons off this channel. Taught me all I know about them on world and now, Rise! These are really nice and informative. Very to the point too and full of info.

thanks so much for this. i've played through the game with switchaxe and hammer, and now i need to get in the habit of countering instead of rolling. the best combos section of the video is especially helpful
Bow next? I think its underrated and in so many review videos, its always the last to get covered! Would love to gain a deeper understanding of it being new to the series. Keep up the great work!
Some more facts for people: - Helmbreaker and Serene Pose's damage scales harder with Spirit Gauge than Longsword's other moves. You lose a lot of damage when you use them outside of Red Gauge level, Red vs Yellow Helmbreaker is a 62.5% damage loss. Serene pose suffers a 70% damage loss when used with Yellow instead of Red spirit gauge. - Sakura Slash doesn't give a darn about Spirit Gauge level, it grows a small amount per gauge level but hits quite hard assuming you land both hits on the monster. It also does more damage than a Helmbreaker at any gauge level except Red. At Red though, the Helmbreaker does 40% more damage. Both skills are entirely good choices. Sakura lets you spend your meter on more Serene Poses. - Speaking of Serene Pose, it does about 25% less damage than a Helmbreaker at all gauge levels. This isn't quite true it varies between 23-30% from gauge level to gauge level but its a good approximation. At Red Spirit Gauge a Serene pose hits harder than a Sakura Slash, so if you're playing a counter heavy style then this can be one of your major DPS tools. Especially because you are damaging a monster when it otherwise couldn't be safely attacked. - Spirit Reckoning hits 8% harder than Roundslash at all gauge levels except Red where its 12%. To help you decide if you think the mobility + damage is better than the Hitbox/AoE of Roundslash.
Video recommendation if you guys are looking for it: recommended crafting trees per weapon. Damage long sword, status effect ones, elemental ones, hype looking ones (most important category). I think you could even fit that in these videos and just say potential spoilers regarding monsters in the game. Love the video. This is my premier place for monster hunter content.
remember everyone who wants to play long sword, it is very good but if u play online try as hardest as possible to not trip people so if everyone is going for head = go for tail, if everyone is going for tail = go for feet so u can trip the monster. this is just so everyone doesn't have to put flinch free on their build.
'This is so everyone doesn't have to dedicate a level 1 slot to a skill in a game where there are like 3 good level 1 gems, one of which is flich free itself.' There's no excuse unless you're a Dual Blades player who needs those level 1 slots for the ele gems. Long Sword isnt the only weapon that trips you constantly.
@@Y00bi what do u mean? Every weapon has their own builds and the gem slots r necessary for those builds. so 1) i'm guessing your a longsword user and 2) yes longsword isn't he only weapon that trips but it is the one thats most likely because it has wide sweeping attacks that r meant for filling up their gauge and 3) all the other weapons that flinch you can be fixed with a simple role or side step.
@@stbernardy7 I actually play Switch Axe, the /real/ trip monster of Rise. Also, no. Literally no meta sets right now need level one jewels for anything other than personal preference and even if they do usually have one free. The only exception is dual blades, which have to gem in the element jewels which eat their level 1 slots. And maybe bows but bow shouldn't be getting tripped anyway. Point is, you can definitely afford the one point flinch free necessary to eliminate all minor trips from other players, and you should take it anyway all the time in multiplayer just because of quality of life. If you're getting tripped while Flinch Free exists, it's your own fault. It allows multiple people to hit the head, which is optimal for damage in most cases anyway.

Can you please do insect glaive next? It's so underrated in this game and I feel like people don't talk enough about the new stuff since everyone got disappointed from the demo that clearly didn't do it justice
True, once you get the second of bugs and assist it really opens up. Silkbind moves are really bad till wyvern dive, which is near the end of the game but you can do a lot of damage and KO like mad with a blunt bug. I get faster kills with IG than most weapons it just lags behind badly till you get useful bugs.
@@DestroyedArkana That too yeah, although changing which assist bug you use is great too. Sometimes its easy to get red but not brown, or white so changing to a dual color that can always nab the harder color makes fights a breeze.
@@FoxTenson I Fully disagree with the statement that the silk bind moves are bad. The forward leap makes you KING in the air, great to chase a monster and lets you stay on the ground or hop in the air wth x or a. Recall kinsect is by far the BEST evasion skill. You get a small heal(or large depending on ur kinsect). You get really far out of the way if you need to or you can click A to immediatley spin back into the action to do a few aerial attacks. Not to say wyvern dive isn’t amazing. Just recall kinsect is ABSURLDY good and totally slept on.

Just started Rise last night because of the sale. I'm not a fan of the Helm splitter change. Wish it was still R2 triangle, and they just added a gauge jump for the price of a wire bug charge
I accidentally discovered the Serene Pose just midfight and i was confused... I didn't understand the circumstances and how to peform that move but now i finally understand it :D thanks a lot!
Very wise to always be ready to learn more👍🏽it's possible to miss details even though we may think we know it all. This will make you into a true master
LongSword. Yes. Here’s some stuff to add: •You can counter after every move (except special IAI Slash & Special Sheath), so spacing your combos to better match the Monster’s tempo can assure you’ll always be ready to counter. •A great combo I’ve been using for getting your spirit gauge up a level from 0 charge is: opening with drawn double slash, into a special sheath, regular iai slash, then finish the spirit gauge combo. This works as long as you hit weak spots and is the best method if you have Quick Sheath 3. •You can hold the sheath button R at the end of your special IAI Slash to recover from the ending animation if you miss. This recovery method with quick sheath 3 is just as fast as using a WireBug move to recover. I highly recommend this, especially with drawn double slash, as you can continue attacking smoothly after sheathing. Most importantly, take your time. The LongSword puts the pressure on, but is best when they master the Monster’s patterns and play to their counter to punish openings. This is the way!
Ive been playing since 3(more 4 ult but I did play 3 first) and started looking for weapons other thsn my insect glaive for rise and i gotta say ive learned SO MUCH from all of these workshop videos and im really greatful
I never forget doing this. As soon as i see someone doing a combo or charging a attack i make sure to hit him and do my best to be the first one to cart... And the second... And third.
Long Sword isn't even the trip master weapon. Ever since the made Switch Axe more than the verticle combo, it's the premier 'this is why Flinch Free is mandatory' weapon.
@@Y00bi And not just ff1, a few of it's moves won't stop flinching until you get ff3. Add this with big explosions and you have one hell of a team carter.
Your discussion of Sakura Slash in the "Which Switch Skills Are Right For You?" section is wrong. You absolutely have something to spend your meter on: Serene Pose. Without Helm Breaker, Serene Pose normally becomes your highest DPS. Spamming Sakura Slash is considerably lower DPS thanks to its extremely slow wirebug regeneration (Serene Pose takes two, but both come back much, much faster), plus the ability to go straight into Spirit Slash 3. Just like Helm Breaker is your bar-spender normally, Serene Pose is your bar-spender with Sakura Slash - Sakura Slash is a good way to apply a lot of status and to get your red bar back up when you're struggling to land a spirit combo or counter. It's great if you're newer to the game because it gives you an easy fallback when you're having trouble getting your bar up, and it's also a great introduction to countering since Serene Pose is so much easier to counter with than Foresight Slash or Iai Spirit Slash. It's also fantastic in multiplayer even if you're good at LS, since the other counters are a lot less reliable and it's a lot easier to miss a Helm Breaker when the monster might decide to turn and attack someone else. It's easy to land Sakura Slash in multiplayer, and Serene Pose is by far the easiest counter to pull off in multiplayer. I think a lot of people have missed this - they tried Serene Pose, noticed it took two wirebugs (but usually not how fast they recharge), maybe didn't notice it takes a level of bar on a successful counter, and figured spamming Sakura Slash was the way to use wirebugs when you have it equipped. Or in the case here, seemingly noticed all those things about Serene Pose, but didn't put two and two together, and think that Sakura Slash is this weird ability that gives you a level of bar without giving you any way to use it.
MHR came to gamepass, so found this video as I’ve been learning and trying different weapons, this was immensely helpful, I don’t feel like a bot anymore trying to use the LS
Nobody explains this to you in game. I just found out about the spirit gauge. I swear Monster Hunter World actually had a proper tutorial. Thanks for making this video.
A few points I'd like to add about Sakura Slash is that, in situations where you have three wirebugs out in the field, you can use it as a way to regain the meter that is spent from Serene Pose. I find myself not using Serene Pose nearly as often when I have Soaring Kick equipped, because I try to prioritize the damage I'm getting from helm splitter expending meter instead. If you don't have a third wirebug up it won't be as effective, since you'll be waiting on both skills to recover from cool down. It's also obviously not the only way to gain back that lost meter, so it's moreso suited for the beginning of a fight when you are first trying to build meter or for situations where you're finding it difficult to execute a full spirit combo, foresight slash, or iai spirit slash. It's wider, horizontal range means it can still land on a monster moving out of the way of your Helm Splitter's attack, as well as when you whiff on soaring kick and instead find yourself flying above the monster wasting a wirebug in the process. Basically the way I see it, it's the "If you tend to whiff on helm splitter, here's an alternative" option.
Really enjoyed the video, and if I could give a small tip on structure, you may want to put the switch moves later in the video as these aren't even an option for newer players, it should at least be after the weapons moves section set as I found it a little confusing to follow at first.
@@Gwilherm I mean sure I understand that I have ways to mitigate that, and of course I do use flinch free - but I never understood why it's everyone else's responsibility to fix the problems an LS user with poor positioning creates. Changing Flinch Free to something that reduces the amount of stagger you cause seems like a better solution.
@@andrewgalipeau1837You're right. I mean, I think it's 50/50 for the responsability part. Almost all of the LS moves can flinch so I think : All LS user have to be aware of this fact and try to position themselve away from the other players. And the other player must have the flinch free deco and be aware that sometimes, attacking the tail is sometime useless (depending of the monster).
@@Gwilherm We shouldn't have to purposefully gimp our build just because 1 teammate doesn't know how or care to space, not to mention, if you're a longsword user going for the head when you have hammer or hunting horn on your team, they're going to be doing significantly more damage through stuns, and combos then any longsword combo can in that time. Flinch free isn't a solution, it's an excuse.

@@rafaelpagtalunan285 It was amazing when I finally remembered to add those bombs on to my item set.
I wonder where it is compared to other weapons' wakeup attacks, at the very least it's hell of a lot faster and easier than someone attempting to use True Charge Slash.
@@ArcticWolfGod Regardless, it's cool that long sword is a viable wake-up weapon now
Makes long sword feel even more like a swiss army knife, not that it wasn't already
There’s so much stuff the game doesn’t tell you about the weapons. Thanks for the guide, I’ve been trying to learn longsword but I wasn’t going anywhere. This helped 👍
Oh man i was just wondering when long sword workshop was gonna come out, great content!
Edit: i also really appreciate the rurouni kenshin reference
Best long sword M.H guide hands down 👍 everything was well put together
Longsword is more fearsome then ever in MP. Not only does it trips your teammates, it also has those insane slashing effects now that blocks the sight of your teammate. Especially in this generation where guard points, quick evades, parrying skills are most useful then ever where having a precise view of the monsters' movement is crucial.
I'm pretty sure you can turn down some of the effects in the options menu.
Thank you for these guides! Literally, I religiously learn weapons off this channel. Taught me all I know about them on world and now, Rise!
These are really nice and informative. Very to the point too and full of info.
I hope SnS is next! Been switching between that and my main from World the Charge Blade! I appreciate the hard work you put into these!
Fantastic guide really appreciated the slowed down sections to help with inputs and timing
Whoa, I totally missed the foresight slash was a thing and been struggling with the iai counter, good to know my options
Love your clear and honest guides , seen a lot lately as I picked the game when it landed on Xbox, and you seem to clearly know where the game stands before and after sunbreak, I’m sure updating the vid for the current consoles and pc mechanics would be much more popular as you will take the trip through sunbeak and beyond with us again :-) and I’m sure we will really benefit from your advice on what to invest in and what to leave aside for a while until the new updates as NO ONE is really doing that at all, let me know if you will so I make sure spread the word , gl to you.
One good thing for using serene pose as your gauge spender is that you don't get clapped out of the air like you can with helmsplitter
I really appreciate this guy mentioning the changes from World to Rise (helm splitter) it helps knowing this ahead of time so my muscle memory isn't confused, really like these video's
The multi-hit SFX is chef's kiss 💋😘
Even though I am a lamce main, watching these helps me learn what my team can do and just knowing that can help on a hunt by a lot
Finally, can't wait for charge blade since its hard to understand how the new switch moves work
thanks so much for this. i've played through the game with switchaxe and hammer, and now i need to get in the habit of countering instead of rolling. the best combos section of the video is especially helpful
Please do the hammer next it needs some love
absolutely beautiful match-cut at 20:35 well done!
I can sleep bomb the monster AND use serene pose at the same time??!! Move over greatsword and hammer, it’s my time to keep shining.
Bow next? I think its underrated and in so many review videos, its always the last to get covered! Would love to gain a deeper understanding of it being new to the series. Keep up the great work!
Some more facts for people:
- Helmbreaker and Serene Pose's damage scales harder with Spirit Gauge than Longsword's other moves.
This needs to be pinned.
@@jacatomgaming7207 thanks just trying to help the community
'This is so everyone doesn't have to dedicate a level 1 slot to a skill in a game where there are like 3 good level 1 gems, one of which is flich free itself.'
There's no excuse unless you're a Dual Blades player who needs those level 1 slots for the ele gems.
It allows multiple people to hit the head, which is optimal for damage in most cases anyway.
i aint hardcore follower of monster hunter franchise but subbed to channel. due to level of detail has put in guide. gj. LS and switchaxe are my favorites. i learnt them on my own but still checked guides time to time, see if i miss somethings and indeed i have. so thnx for help since there re 2days to rise pc release.
I get faster kills with IG than most weapons it just lags behind badly till you get useful bugs.
seconding this
People need to know about the dual type (attack) as well, which gives you red buff no matter where you hit the monster with a kinsect.
Far in the future I am happy Arekkz and his crew make these videos. I put down MHR for a good while after launch due to many reasons and have playing it a lot again lately. I am a Dual Blade and LS main, but its good to get a bit of a refresher for anything I may have overlooked.
Thanks guys for the effort and awesome videos!
Just started Rise last night because of the sale. I'm not a fan of the Helm splitter change. Wish it was still R2 triangle, and they just added a gauge jump for the price of a wire bug charge
Your videos for MHW+Iceborne are the best, and you got even better. Thanks for the insight.
"Like Himura Kenshin." You said it! Great video!
I looked for your video on this a few days ago because it was the weapon I never learned in MHW. Glad I'm not alone

Keep them coming, chief!
Just started playing last night and this comes up. Perfect timing😃
Depending on the monster I struggle to get even white charge, so I'm really happy to see Sakura Slash is back.
Love using this, my team all fall over in awe of my sick combos
Don't mind me just waiting for the charge blade tutorial (:

That tutorial will probably be as long as the LotR trilogy tbh.
I accidentally discovered the Serene Pose just midfight and i was confused... I didn't understand the circumstances and how to peform that move but now i finally understand it :D thanks a lot!
like many, I'm already confident in my LS prowess, but I'm sure I still have a thing or two to learn in this one ;)
Very wise to always be ready to learn more👍🏽it's possible to miss details even though we may think we know it all. This will make you into a true master

I love these weapon workshops. Thank you so much for the video!
Here I am, HR7...
*finally learning how to use the long sword*
I got to HR7 using nothing but the horn
LongSword. Yes. Here’s some stuff to add:
•You can counter after every move (except special IAI Slash & Special Sheath), so spacing your combos to better match the Monster’s tempo can assure you’ll always be ready to counter.
This is the way!
i coulda sworn you was gonna say "an elegant weapon, for a more civilised age" lmao
Ive been playing since 3(more 4 ult but I did play 3 first) and started looking for weapons other thsn my insect glaive for rise and i gotta say ive learned SO MUCH from all of these workshop videos and im really greatful
You forgot the most important tip, make sure to trip all your teammates as long as you get maximum dps output it's all good lol
I never forget doing this. As soon as i see someone doing a combo or charging a attack i make sure to hit him and do my best to be the first one to cart... And the second... And third.
@@brotbrotsen1100 exactly!
Long Sword isn't even the trip master weapon. Ever since the made Switch Axe more than the verticle combo, it's the premier 'this is why Flinch Free is mandatory' weapon.
@@Y00bi yah I noticed that, thank god now I can spam spirit combos in peace
@@Y00bi And not just ff1, a few of it's moves won't stop flinching until you get ff3. Add this with big explosions and you have one hell of a team carter.
I have never played longsword, and now I might try it. I love your videos, bro!
I've been waiting for this! Love the way you explain things. Thank you so much for the hardwork on this.
For those who have mastered the longsword or still learning you are now one with the longsword and anime and none will hurt u unless its magnamalo😂
MHR came to gamepass, so found this video as I’ve been learning and trying different weapons, this was immensely helpful, I don’t feel like a bot anymore trying to use the LS
The game pass
Has boomed the active players
i've been maining HH so far, but i feel like i should learn this and Dual Blades to become the ultimate weeb
Nobody explains this to you in game. I just found out about the spirit gauge. I swear Monster Hunter World actually had a proper tutorial. Thanks for making this video.
Say it with me:
I'm a longsword main and I'm proud.
I’m a longsword main and I’m proud!
Is that what you call it?
I use a Long Sword and I'm proud.
I'm a longsword main and I'm proud!
WOOO!
FINALLY!!! Thank you so much for all the content!
This should have been posted a day earlier and been a wordless 28-minute video of clips of LS users moving to and attacking the tail
you mean the head bc no LS user can tell the difference between head and tail
Lol flinch free my dude.
