SURPRISE SPECIAL EPISODE! I’m really proud of this one -- the change in format was something I've been wanting to try for a while -- and I hope you like it. I’ll still be featuring comments here in the next vlog, so get nerdy! - KH
Why is this not on Alpha?
This the episode that shadiversity helped with?
Great Job !
What about proffesional bodybuilders? That seems to be within their range.
All hail Bazelguese, the Bagel Goose, Basket ball, Banana Granada and whatever other hundred other names that living bomber plane of death has now been given.
But the real question:
How much lung capacity do you need to play the hunting horn?
Well the hunter is kinda a primitive people and they go hunting and survive in the wild everyday so they obtain monster strengh to be able to handle big sword
Only the people who blow you are able to blow the hunting horn XD
PrinceofIndia it is my personal beliefs that you don’t actually blow into the hunting horn but that u press a button and to play the music instead

Nice, someone actually does science on this game. Perhaps next time you can science out why Capcom decided it was a logical idea to have "Sharpness" on hammers ?
FREEZER hahaha it is confusing but sharpness basically means amount of crits in game
Buffing out dents, removing soft flesh chunks so you hit with the hard part. Maintenance.
My question is why the Giant Axe does blunt damage and the Club and Shield does slash.
And also why the fuck SnS designs are such SHIT.
doesn’t take a huge leap of logic to figure out what hunters are doing for maintenance on their weapons
case in point: gunlances needing sharpening after strictly just shots
@@Marx_D._Soul the chargeblade releases energy, that's what causes the impact damage
howabout the horn?
My theory is that gravity in MH universe is way lower than on Earth. That would explain how you can swing giant weapons, how dragons fly, and why you can fall 100+ meters without any fall damage :D
GalloViking debunked...
but ehy you fall down so fast like on earth? hehe :P
its just a game a guess
Also hunters are supethumans, probably stronger muscles and denser bones... but why is zorah magdaros the weight of a few cars
It is slightly lower but not by much, it's mostly the fact that at this point in time the hunters have adapted to survival. Obviously, they need to be stronger to deal with such massive, overbearing creatures, and to hunt them they would need superhuman abilities. Tougher bone structure, denser muscle etc in order to be able to wield these weapons.
Dragons could fly on earth normally now tho
Tyrannosaurus? Please! Deviljho looks like a pickle.

Assuming your character has a mass similar to the average human wouldn't he, in mid-air, turn himself around the sword instead of swinging it?
Tbf, the animations do kind of represent that. Swinging the greatsword around in MHW tends to show your character being thrown off balance a bit or even swung around by the momentum. Some of the combos even take advantage of this... and is also what can leave you open to some monster attacks if you time your swings poorly :p
... are you suggesting the Aerial Arts Hunting Style might be at odds with the laws of physics? YOU HERETIC!
Yes, and Skallagrim mentions that in his videos about Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy.
"You don't wield a sword that big, it wields you"
Lucky Monster Hunter Worlds animations agree with that
Absolutely. Using Kyle's figures if you had your feet 1m apart with your body's weight directly between them and the sword's point of balance 1m in front of your front foot you would need to weigh over 340kg just to prevent yourself from falling over.
This just makes me wonder how unwieldy a real-life charge blade would be, especially in axe-mode. I would think the weight distribution would make it far harder to swing around than an oversized sword with a more reasonable (relatively speaking) center of gravity.
Just wanna be a Deviljho's Advocate in regards to the intro for MHW. Your character isn't really a "newbie hunter". He/she was one of the few classified as an "A-Lister" from the Old World. One of the best Hunters to join the Fifth Fleet. Like the Excitable A-Lister, who is the Ace Cadet in MH4 and Generations.
I knew they looked a little too similar.
He might be talking about new MH players lol XD
Nerrrrd...
Seriously though. I'm pretty hooked on this game.
if you're going for lore things.
all hunters are bio-engineered super soldiers made specifically to hunt and kill dragons.
Is a list hunter
Only owns crap armor and weapons
You forgot to mention that you also need to weight a LOT to be able to swing it. As you push all that mass in one direction, you have to weight more than that to be able to hold your feet, or else you're going with the sword.
Wich is actually what happen in the game, it feels more like the hunter is attached to the end of the sword that the other way around
The hunters armour probably weighs nearly as much
I think a 5' 8"to 6 foot tall, 200lbs power lifter with exceptional dancing and martial arts skills should have the sense of momentum, control and footwork skills to swing a 370lbs version of this blade.
It'd still be several consecutive swings before he is exhausted, and there's still a large margin for terrible error. Though it's a full body activity, his ankles will be under a tremendous amount of strain when he pivots on them to generate the initial momentum of starting up the swing and then as his stance widens out to transition the flow into a secondary pivot. On the second pivot, the built up momentum will go to the outer limits of his control(even with genius level sense of kinesthetics). The sword's weight will feel momentarily lessened as it'll feel like it's flowing of it's own accord(which it technically is at that point)...
You are not likely to find a guy like this, but it's possible there are a few in the world...but in the World of Monster Hunter, each Hunter is likewise in the top 1% of physical and martial prowess, so it's possible(just not for Kyle, he seems better at thinking than martial arts).
You have to go with the sword, it's how you do it that makes the difference between successful use, or being broken... and dead, if you are facing something ferocious enough that you need that sword(or you have Kyle Hill level clumsiness, in which case you'd somehow stab yourself in the process).
I almost want to gain the almost 40 lbs via a year of explicit conditioning, just to prove that it can be done...but I haven't the 370 lbs sword, nor the money set aside that I can just do nothing but physical conditioning and eating for a year.

Fun fact, in Capcom vs Marvel, the one with the Monster Hunter, she has similar stat values as Hulk. Sooo, that should give you an idea of how strong the Monster Hunters are.
The God Emperor Hunters can also fall from cliffs and hit the ground running. I think it's safe to assume hunters are medieval super-soldiers.
Also they're basically unkillable, seeing as getting stomped, chomped on, shoulder bashed, poisoned, bled out, blown up, etc. only ever makes them lose consciousness. :P Although that could easily state more about the work ethic and medical prowess of the cats that cart them back to camp than it does for the durability of these super human warriors.

USE GASOLINE IT IS A LESS EFFECTIVE SOLVENT THAN WATER LOL
I was thinking using something like sand instead or even bean bag filling
That was my first thought. I was like water displacement? Oh no. Well this should get tedious....lol great episode Kyle.
you should have sprayed the sword with a waterproof coating (if needed) then submerge in into a large container (a bin?) and measure the amount of displaced water to determine the exact volume of the sword
One thing i noticed with this game more than with any other, is how actually almost any weapon you create, despite using monster materials, has it steely core. In greatswords, for example, the rathalos greatsword will look just the same as the steel one but with a few scales and stuff from the rathalos attached to it. And until the latests improovements, it wont look like it's fully made of the monster. But still, any of the weapons would have a core not made of a monster's material, so i guess they would weight even more xD
The reason the deviljho weapons have chains is because If you do a charge swing on the deviljho greatsword, the red veins will bulk it up to its true form. That’s why the chains are there. To sort of suppress it.
you're basically saying that the sword is a living thing ?
imagen if hunter curious and pulled the chains the sword just suddenly shot deviljho's dragon laser
Would make for an awesome weapon upgrade.

Shockwaves
It's psychic!
By Monster Hunter logic an odachi would fall under the longsword weapon series.
That would be interesting to see the science behind the Wyvern Impact. Rocket propulsion could help with making it more plausible lol
It's explained in the Monster Hunter lore that most hunters are the descendants of superhuman warriors who fought in a titanic war in ages past. They're not ordinary humans.
that's also explain why there's no fall damage on every MH game
Ohhhhhh so that's why they're able to eat more than an average person.
They need like triple the calories 😅
It's more of a fan theory rather than canon lore. Personally, I think the low gravity human colony is a far more plausible theory. It explains no-fall damage, the big size of all kinds of animals and plants, the size and weight of hunters' weaponry, how the winged monsters (rathalos, rathian, etc.) could fly with disproportional small wings, and how some monsters (cephalos) could swim through sand.
Edwin Xu if it low gravity like you say it would`t had that big size monster or animals , on earth we had too many big , gigantic size animals even before human exsist , and we don`t know the biology is the same like earth or not
Zhang Lee nah, you got that mixed up. The lower the gravity, the easier it is for animals to grow big. Just look at the size of animals in the ocean, the buoyancy helps decrease the gravity's effect on them.
And earth has an unusually high oxygen content in the atmosphere in the past, that's why animals are way larger before. It has nothing to do with gravity.
THE SUN
IT BURNS
To be fair tho Hunters don't wield the Greatsword with ease, all of the attacks use momentum.
they still have to lift it
Momentum my ass, u have never used a Greatsword right?, In combo u can see that the hunter can hold the blade mid air to charge for a heavy hit
@@uchophamxuan6515 i mean they still need momentum for certain moves transitions in combos right? also just chill
NOT all. certain moves transtions like swinging to the front and to the back most likely has no momentum. it probably only happens when you spin and swing it from left to right that requires it
Kyle, this is one of, if not the, coolest episodes you've made... Great job with this one.
Greatswords of Europe did not exactly get that heavy, there were Bearing Swords, big massive overweight greatswords used for ceremonies that got that heavy yes, but they were not meant to be used really. The more practical ones went up to about 3kg at most, with lengths of 150cm up to about 200cm, with something like 170cm being not too unusual. Some names for these swords are zweihänder, montante and spadone.
This needs to be upvoted more....
2:12 Vampire Kyle confirmed.

Fume Ultra Greatsword next plz XD
It has iron pretty much
How dense is crocodile leather? I feel like that's be a more accurate density to work with for this weapon.
deviljho's scales are far more durable tho
but Kyle, a sword's center of gravity may not be where you thought it was... A swords center of balance/gravity is displaced by the counterweight present (which is the pommel/hilt)... also, to purely base the sword's volume purely on the organic compound would alter the result drastically... So if I where to hypothesized the weight of the blade, it would be heavier, also if I were to assume where the actual center of gravity for the sword is, it would be less than 3 feet away from the swinging hand (hand nearest to the hand guard)...
P.S. I haven't played monster hunter, but I do know some knowledge on weaponry... And I love this Show...
Paul Michael Genovate There's also teeth as mentioned by him, and inworld, the hunters are supposedly normal "realworld like" humans. The weight should be different. Also center of mass as mentioned by you.
Paul Michael Genovate ikr... Lol the whole point of the weighted pommel is to provide a counter weight and hence make wielding the sword easier
Paul Michael Genovate exactly what I was about to say but just adding counter weight on the pommel would make it way more heavier which is the last thing the deviljho sword needs. Instead removing materials from the top/replacing with lighter but still tough parts would be the better to reduce it's center of gravity & the world of Monster Hunter is full of such materials
Actually, interestingly enough, Hunters aren't humans. They're humanoid, sure, but they're all descended from Wyverian Hunters active during the Great Dragon War. Only people with the special Hunter genetics can actually become Hunters. And yes I'm well aware the Great Dragon War is the silliest thing ever.
if I can recall my biology correctly, Teeth have a different volume from scales... due to the fact that teeth are made up from different minerals like calcium, enamel and maybe some iron... also, I just noticed that the "blade" is connected not only by some adhesive, but also by a chain.. this also affects the center of balance of the sword... if we use real world weaponry to compare it with the aforementioned weapon (berserker sword), it must be one of many shark teeth weapons of the Maori... We just have to replace regular Great white shark teeth with that of a Megalodon (or just make it 10 times it's size), then we just add scales, some metal (probably iron) and we may have some "real world" basis... so my hypothesis is that the berserker sword is heavier (give or take the scales and teeth are brand new) and the center of gravity is closer to the handle or hand guard (because when organic compounds age they become lighter, and because of the counter weight which is the pommel/hilt)... if we were to make it lighter, then the frame inside the blade must either be hollow, or the material should be lighter... also, since we don't have any exact measurements for the beast we can't calculate exactly how heavy this thing is... and since the weapon is made instantly, the smiting process (which helps me understand and analyze) may vary from having pure materials combined into a massive lump, or there were cheats made to make the weapon lighter... I think I need to watch some Blacksmiths forging fantasy swords again...
What an awesome model!
Thank you! Turned out awesome -- KH
First video I ever watched from this creator. I gotta say, I really appreciate the effort that came into the material. Keep it up Man.

I LOVE that Kyle sourced Shadiversity for this episode. You both are amazing.
Sean Peery At this point, there's no reason not to ask Shad or someone else in the HEMA community before making a video. If you don't, and you get something wrong, they'll probably make a response video correcting any mistakes.
Ever used heavy construction equipment?
One would really know this by himself if he ever worked in his life or did some changes to his home
..shadiversity just tries to educate the dumb masses on that matter
In simple terms, Arnold Schwartzenager at at his absolute peak of fitness would be barely able to swing this thing more then once before practically passing out.
Ronny Coleman could absolutely do it in his Prime, and he would have had the Body Weight to pull it off.
@A70k louis cyr would not be able to swing a beserker sword that much. maybe a couple of swing but he will be exhausted.
Size doesnt equal strength, i mean being big still means ur strong, but its really neural and muscle density and atonement
Yeah Arnold isn't a great example. Bodybuilders are strong but they most likely aren't this strong. The strongest could probably lift it without too much trouble but swinging it around with any real force is something completely different.
A proper strong man like Hafthor could probably give this a few good swings. Strongmen are used to moving heavy loads quickly and even throwing them around. He weighs 30kg more than the sword in the video and has the best dynamic strength in the world. With the proper technique he could probably pull off a swing that could cut through a small car.
Olympic weightlifters are the same story with bodybuilders except they absolutely have no problem lifting off the ground, just swinging it is something they aren't used to.
It would be a crit tho
Do keep in mind that a Hunter can pull a 30 ft leviathan out of the water with a fishing pole
I really love the energy and delivery in this video!
There are some gaping holes in this topic which weren't addressed, and those are mass distribution, leverage, and inertia. The physical mechanics of wielding a sword are rooted in the controlled acceleration of mass through intersecting planes, and leveraging the swordsperson's mass and energy into the sword's edge/tip at these intersecting points. A sword with a mass greater than the mass of the wielder is going to make this impossible, no matter how strong they are. With such a mass discrepancy the swordsperson would be relegated to lifting the sword under its center of balance and/or throwing it at a target (unless they had unexplained means of anchoring themselves to the surface they are standing upon, and that surface being robust enough to withstand the forces generated).
Hey Zen, you've commented on enough episodes now to know that I only have so many minutes, and I only get so deep into a topic. I agree with your points though. -- KH
I know you do, but they are still points worth making all the same. I thoroughly enjoy the discussions these topics generate. Keep it up.
That's nice and all but...I don't think about that stuff when doing kenjutsu. You just do what feels right.
drunkredninja
What's your point? The practice of kenjutsu doesn't have anything to do with people attempting to wield swords with more mass than their own bodies (and how basic physics makes that impossible). Your comment certainly comes off as a non sequitur.
no time to do calculations bruh, busy fightin ninjas
Great episode but here is a bit of correction.
First, One of the longest sword would be two-handed great sword which its length can be up to 210 cm. and the weight in general gonna be around 4.5-7.0 pounds.
Second, The bulky one that you mention would be a 17th century bearing-swords or "Paradeschwert" which use in a ceremony .
The bearing-swords can weight around 10 pounds or more.
I corrected it on Facebook as well. People seem to think swords are a lot heavier than they really are.
Well the biggest sword that were ever used are the German zweihander, the Chinese changdao and the Japanese odachi, all of which could mesure up to two meters, but weighing only 4 to 6 kilos
Hmm ya that one big sword in roionel kenshin that punch mc punch punch used is a real sword if i remember seeing and hearing about it.
The longest great sword that I could find is 213cm, a certain zweihander.
The sword you're referencing is called a Zanbatou, and while it existed in real life, it was not anything like the one in the show nor manga. It was essentially a Chinese sword that was used for taking out horses, not for fighting, and was effectively just a the Chinese progenitor of the odachi. So the same measurements apply.
15 Lbs is actually quite heavy for a greatsword. Those would be more for decoration than actual combat.
You'd want somewhere around 7 or 8 Lbs.
I also do recall there being found a claymore that was incredibly long. 2.24 meters to be exact. It is said that this weapon has been wielded by a Scottish giant. Also, swordsman usually don't swing from the wrist. Some master cuts might be an exception to that.
But I think you can carry GS... if you are a bodybuilder i guess.
And thats why the Wyvern Ignition "Impact" is better. It's got rockets to move it, so you don't need as much strenght.
So you're saying the people in Monster Hunter World evolved from Bugattis
Thats what I am hearing.
OFFICIAL CANON
close enough, as far as the canon goes.
Clearly. -- KH
you don't only need to be super strong, you also need to be super heavy because the force created by the sword swinging would pull on you, so that if you don't have the equivalent counterweight you get dragged away.
anyway nice video.
I would hope by the time you're strong enough to even wield it efficiently you'd have gotten enough muscle mass to be the counterweight yourself.
E. P. You could compensate for that with technique.
But then why is there no fall damage?
Wilkwolf coz they are super humans lol
Exactly. according to Skallagrim's calculation, But put in the weight of the sword. after a long process, I came up with around eleven thousand five hundred eighty seven pounds (11,587 lbs).
"Y-you're still gonna pay me right?" XD
2:13 after being in the void for so long, Kyle’s eyes had to readjust to the natural sunlight of earth.
This man clearly doesn't take into consideration the fact that Monster Hunters' diets consist of MONSTERS, which gives all the strength you need to kill more monsters.
Any real hunter knows this.
Takun Hiwatari hunters eat monster, so who's the real monster now... (Okay this one sucks)
Takun Hiwatari I thought it was because the Hunters were descendants from Super humans?
They sort of (but not really) retconned the super human lore bit. It was stated in an early but official art book, and never ever mentioned again. There was also a lot of stuff in there that they were planning to do, but never actually did, so it's kind of a "this is probably the lore, but we're damn sure never going to come out and say it's cannon!" kind of situation.
That said, have you seen the sheer AMOUNT of food the hunters eat, right before going out to do the seriously physically demanding work of hunting? The ability to eat all that and then be ready to fight right after means they must be able to consume and break down a horrific amount of calories, so I'm assuming they have the muscle mass of the gods or something.
I suspect that the replica is made almost entirely from foam, while in game it looks like the whole handle is metal. Being much denser than keratin, the metal handle would shift the center of mass of the "realistic" weapon closer to the grip, making it a bit easier to manipulate.
Also, the pommel may be made from something extra heavy, and thus shifting the center of mass even further down at the cost of increased mass (which is presumably not that relevant, since the force of the torque is so giant anyways...).
Great vid!
yes the centre of mass should be at the hilt but on this sword there is a giant chain at the end which looks like it would offset the hilt hence the centre of mass is closer to the middle
oh yeah, the chain... it doesn't look as massive as the whole handle though... although I guess it's massive enough to disregard my first point :)
however, the point with the pommel still holds
It is heavier near the hilt, but just look at how much volume (and mass) is right at the bulbous tip of the sword! That's the problem -- KH
Yea, I think just assuming it's all keratin which would be the lightest material is a good way of showing that no matter what it would be rather impossible to wield.
Assuming the sword was balanced at the hilt you would still have to lift something (now taking into consideration the increased weight for it to be balanced as the keratin still weighs what it does in the blade of the sword) +200 kg.
Assuming the average human arm is 630 mm long, it would mean that if holding it in one hand straight arms the torque at your shoulders would still be ~1200Nm or half with both hands assuming equal load distribution.
Now I can't help to think about the grip needed to hold on to the sword. If we assume the the speed of a swing is 30 km/h or 8.333 m/s (which from some quick googling isn't quick) and it take 0.5 s to reach the speed we get a force of 3332 N, lets say 2/3 of that is pulling the sword out of your hands. So ~2220 N. That is a lot of force to grip against.
KH - Yeah, but it is almost as bulbous at the hilt, so I'd say it kinda cancels out. The chain though kinda cancels out the hilt, so yeah... All in all it was a good demonstration of just how impossible it is for a normal human to wield that monstrosity :)
The description of Deviljho was impressive, but I’d say it’s a walking, roaring, breathing, and eating pickle
So that was impressive. But have you considered the base weapon that this one is built atop of? Because each upgrade changes the appearance of the sword and 'wraps' the weapon in its own specific material. How much of a change would that make?
I really loved this video, but one small nitpick that might have made it even heavier. In all Monster Hunter games, when a great sword was sheathed, the size was scaled down so the weapon would not clip through the charachter and appear unweildable. When the weapon is out, its size is always larger than its sheath size. Some Weapons in past games have larger and longer sizes than the hunters themselves when unsheathed, such as the hunting horn.
There are also some Greatswords that are extendable like the Larisaber which almost doubles in length when drawn.
So... Who else wants to see what Kyle's car windows look like after he's stuck in traffic? I wonder if he just draws the finger when people cut him off in traffic?
Find the volume by weighing the prop and then using the density of the material to find it’s true volume.
I believe a monster hunter's strength comes from the nutrition they get from the food in their universe. Many herbs and fruits and meats have healing properties and thus probably give hunters the strength to not only wield massive weapons, but also (sometimes) survive a deviljho bashing them against the ground.
a deviljho slam is a small concern for my hunter compared to some of the shit i do
My god, i love this special episode. Esp the big sword. And 170kg?? Really, lifting it up is one thing, but swinging it is unimaginable. In real life, one swing of this sword maybe enough to kill an elephant.
By the way, the way you hold the sword is so cool!!
One swing of it will probably rip our arms right out with the sword. It kinda works as a massive throwing knife though.
Or if you have enough strength to swing it, you might fly away along with the sword if you keep holding it. Imagine when you try to swing heavy object away, if you cannot let it go fast enough, it will try to pull you away with it. Kinda funny thing to watch though.
Ricky Leung just build a Giant robotic Hunter who can Swing it and then test it on some elephants >:D
A trebuchet should do the job just fine. But, blasting a poor elephant with a trebuchet...really?
Yes, a trebuchet. Thank. I never thought of that. And a giant robot to swing the sword? That is a great idea.👍👍👍
Would a human with muscles capable of producing the calculated amount of energy required to swing such a massive sword repeatedly even be possible? And what would that look like, something like five Arnold Schwarzeneggers in one?
J335H normally you'd see a 70 kg guy swing a sword under 5 kg. So if you got a sword weighing 170 kg, you would need someone close to 2000 kg to properly wear it. Thats 3 of the worlds biggest bears.
I wonder if a Spartan from Halo could wield a sword like that.
Brian Shaw may be able to swing it. Or Hafthor.
Please tell me that is the actual cannon
xtemma I think I now need to go look up monster hunter lore.
Devil Jho greatsword as your pic?
You want a challenge? Let's talk about wyvern ignition impact.
The car window bit had me rolling.
Also, as was mentioned by Shadiversity, the mass of the sword would probably be similar to that of a human. This means that the wielder would also be moved, unless they had super weight.
Theren Stormwind they wear armour so that makes them heavier
It's simple. The hunters are that strong simply from their way of life over dozens if not hundreds of generations. They would probably have bones, muscles, and ligaments that are far denser and tougher than normal humans. In fact, we humans are surprisingly weak for our size compared to other animals. Not having to survive in the wilds off the land has sapped our physical strength (we did get bigger brains as the trade-off). If we had the same kind of strength relative to body size that chimpanzees or gorillas have, we'd probably be breaking brick walls and bending metal without much effort.
human was never made to be strong. Humans has never evolved to develop physical strength, ours ancestors were stronger than us from living in the wild but the difference was not that huge. (they would not able to crush brick wall with bare hand.)
Human evolved more to gain stamina and mobility like horses. Human compared to other animal is the one who can run the greatest distance. We are not that fast in comparaison but we travel a lot of distance without any need to completely stop moving to regain stamina and because of ours balanced skeleton we can keep running despite being injured.
in big word we are more stamina oriented species
hunters were altered during the Elder Dragon war(Theory)
@@migzlionheart8952 i read that they are genetically improved or probably just because of their ancestors? I mean since mhfu (old world) to mhw (new world)
hunters’ true strength come from being Japanese fictional characters in animation and rejecting anime entirely
Humans are incredibly strong. It's called adrenaline. You get stronger with adrenaline because your body thinks it might be a life or death situation. You could seriously hurt yourself if you actually did what we are capable of, that's why adrenaline makes your stronger and faster, because your body is choosing a possible injury over a possible death
maybe the sword has a hollow frame and only wrapped and trimmed with monster parts. then the long metal handle and framing at the base would put the center of mass close to the sword guard at a less overall mass.
But what about the density of the steel and other materials used to make the handle and chains around the top?
Couldn’t you have used water displacement to measure volume?
I guess you would need a water tank though
TomatoSauzeGaming 626 That's what I would have done too, an inflatable pool would have done the trick.
I came here looking for that exact comment, to make sure I didn't duplicate it if someone beat me to it. Additionally, to find the center of mass is actually pretty simple. Place the sword on a fulcrum, and adjust its position until it balances. These are both cases of missing the forest for the tree that you just ran into.
And ruin a multi-hundred-dollar prop for the sake of it?
Xar Alkaid if it is that expensive, they should make it water proof, am i right? XD
I want that sword....
Me too, the full 370lbs version.
We all do, friend. We all do.
I've played monster Hunter since I was a kid and one question I've always asked myself is how jacked do you have to be to carry weapons like the switch acts and the long sword even the great sword
Can we all take a minute to appreciate the mirror writing he has to do on the spot with window markers
Shadeversity
fast way to measure volume of the sword (if it weren't water soluable) water displacement, then measure the volume of the difference.. (ie dunk it in water, measure the water that spills out)
Is there someplace we can watch this build? Maybe where they explain what it's made out of, all material used? That kind of thing.
But u forgot to acount for the lower gravity of the monster hunter universe, like as an example, you can literally fly with the glider mantle with monster skin taped to your arms
Nah its on earth, just rly far in the future
It's because they eat good food, drink good brew and take homecrafted drugs.
Awoken Genius mega demon drug
and a big thick cut of rathalos tail steak?
Love this style, do it more!
What about Cloud Strife's Buster Sword? Will the same difficulty application be still on there?
Another factor could be that the material is lighter than it looks.
In fantasy games like this we could get a monster bone large enough to be mistaken for a tree branch but when held it barely has any weight to it but is still strong enough to crack skulls.
C'mon Kyle, 1.5m is ~5 ft not 6 ft.
Still swinging around a 5 ft sword or a 15 lbs sword wouldn't be fun, let alone one that weighs almost 400 lbs.
Isn't the Chiron the new king since it replaced the Veyron?
I rounded for both numbers, but yeah the Veyron has been surpassed. But I used it because it's still one of the most powerful, like I said, and most people have now heard of it -- KH
well i uess estimating from meters to foots aint that easy? I never done it, but seeing how inconsistent the imperial system is to metric, there is bound to be round-abouts and estimates
Didn't Shadiversity do a video very similar to this in response to your Super Strength video?
What I want to know is how what is the real life stat requirements to wield a greatsword of artorias, fume ultra greatsword or smoughs hammer
you also forgot how it must held cause if you wield it a certain way it seems lighter but you are still generating that amount of force
Though expensive, do they have 3d scanning technology that could create an electronic model from a physical one? Then perfectly calculate the CG (assuming you could assign various densities?)
I was also thinking that modelling the sword via CAD, catia or any other technical graphic program would be way easier and better for those calculations (though less spectacular)^^.
They do. Several different varieties in fact. Contact scanning (a physical probe touching the model in 1000's of places and measuring the location of each point), laser scanning (similar to the contact method but it uses frickin laser beams!) and photogrammetry (which compares photos of an object at many different angles to approximate it's shape) and they range from $100k's to apps for your phone.
And yes you could, though for the purposes of this video Kyle's assumptions are more than adequate.
The fact that it was sponsored by Capcom made me think they were going to get access to the official 3D models to use for calculations.
You could just get a fulcrum, eyeball it, the edge in to it until it balances.

What would the pseudocath’s moth dust be made of for it to explode like it dies
Wouldnt it have been easier to dump the replica into a container full of water an measure the volume through the amoumt of water that got pushed out of the container?
But now for the real question: How much did that beast cost?
A lot -- KH
at least 2
2:32 Kyle is actually writing in mirror writing here rather than mirroring the footage. He had to think about it for a second but good job.
Jim Giant - Yes, he actually wrote backwards this time. I wonder how many tries it took. Lol
Hopefully not too many times, there's only 5 characters.
I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW THAT I NAILED IT -- KH
Because Science - I was just teasing you Kyle. :-) It was a long take from going outside, all the dialog, getting inside the car, writing on the window. One take is impressive.
At least if you wanted to use great sword but there are probably more realistic classes like a long sword, bows (probably without the arrows as they can be and are used as swords) , maybe even a sword and shield
was really hoping you'd factor in the fan theories that attempt to balance this game closer to reality, such as the monster hunter planet having lower gravity and differences in bone density for monsters and humans depending on size and strength
Hey Kyle could you do and episode on the potion/poison that Juliet took to become dead temporarily for 48 hours in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet
You'd not be producing the torque at your wrists. You'd be producing the torque at your shoulders.
Also... not certain why people are overly interested in the physics of a game where you need to sharpen Hammers because if the Hammer gets too dull, it will not do as much blunt force damage. Though... the notion of sharpening your Bag Pipes that you proceed to use as a weapon does make an oddly large amount of sense.
Keep in mind, the horizon in the monster hunter games does not curve the same as the horizon of Earth--and people have mentioned the stars in the night sky, do not match the stars on Earth's night sky. This means we are dealing with a different Atmosphere composition and a different position in a planetary gravity well. Which does all kinds of wonderful strange things to how the laws of physics operate locally.
Oh--and because gravity strength is not a universal thing on Earth--varying at different points of the planet based largely on the density of various substances at different locations on the Earth... there is highly likely even more variation on different levels of gravity occurring on whatever planet Monster Hunter takes place upon. As various monsters have shown their own abilities to affect density of materials--or are just migratory high density locations themselves.
But yeah--you've be producing the torque at your shoulders and hips... not your wrist. Who the fuck fights using wrist movements? I mean, besides people using whips and flails.
Katrina Payne you have to use your wrists as well as your shoulders else you wouldn't be able to properly wield a sword or strike something convincing.
Not the perfect anolog but imagine trying to swing a baseball bat or cricket bat without moving your wrists at all - you wouldn't be able to accurately hit the ball and if you did, you wouldn't impart the full force of your swing.
Force flows. If torque is not produced at your wrists, your wrists will bend. It's just physics!
I do love your alternate gravity theory. However, though gravitational acceleration does vary on Earth, it doesn't vary enough to make swinging 400lb on a stick any easier. -- KH
If the gravity is weaker and the sword is lighter, then so would be the human body, so you still couldn't swing it without IT swinging you away.
Katrina Payne also you sharpen your Hammer at the handle xDD
The force you need to move the weapon does not depend on the local gravity. Because Newtons second law to accelerate the object you need to apply a force linked to the mass. The mass stays the same no matter if you are on earth, the moon or a place without gravity. However, you would indeed have less trouble keeping the weapon up in 0gravity, but as soon as you try to move it you will face some major difficulties.
Is it weird I want live models of all those monster hunter weapons now.
normally Kyle is seen writing inversely with his left hand, in his car we see that he can also write inversely with his right hand.
he's the chosen one
