I think that the reason the XTR was stopping was because of the kickback control thats integrated in it. If it detects kickback it kills the motor to prevent user injury or damage to the motor.
Yes I think you're right... if he can showcase that or redo this using the aux handle. I think his comments would have changed from "This is disappointing x3" to "this saved my wrist, wow! x3"
I think your right buddy. I was using my xtr drill with hole saw to punch thru some studs in some tight spots and the anti kickback saved me from smashing my hand. I love my XTR set! 🤙🤙🤙
It says right on the box anti-kickback tech to keep you from getting corkscrewed. It feels front heavy because its made of metal and not plastic like the DeWalt.
It's not worth it bro this guy just buys tool after tool and rambles on about it. Would make all the difference to take a pen and paper write down some notes / features / discussion points but hey who am I to say
iu put these to the hardcore test. the kickback should not be activating this early. The hilti has this feature as well. Ryobi has this and it goes off way to early like this kobalt does. it just makes it a weaker tool
@@ManCaverTools I disagree I work in a commercial production facility building houses and I have been using my xtr with a 3/4in x 2ft auger bit for drilling through studs to run wires. I have had no issues with this model so far and have had it for two weeks doing 8 houses a day. I have had the old model for 2 years and my co-worker uses it for the same purpose I do. It's pretty awesome that our company quit using corded DeWalt drills and switch to battery Kobalt drills due to the performance and reliability being better.
I'd like to see Kobalt offer a kit with the XTR 7.25" circular saw and the XTR reciprocating saw with 2 4AH batteries and a quick charger. I think having a 24V drill and impact driver is overkill.
Having a kick back feature is nice. Most of the standard hammer drills don't have this feature unless you get the SDS Max drills and even with those drills not all of them have it.You can see the light flashing in the video when the feature goes on.
I suspect some of the cut out by the XTR Hammer drill is due to the anti-kickback sensor trying to prevent a sudden jerk of the handle. What the tool needs is an option to disable it, particularly if you need to mix drywall mud, thinset, or grout. Kobalt/Lowes also needs to sell the new style belt clips too.
Yesterday I bought their XTR combo kit with the hammer drill & 1/4" impact and 2 batteries and it came with an extra 4 ah battery for a total of 3 batteries for $289.00 minus my military discount. The tool quality is much higher than the cheap a$$ Milwaukee kit that I took back before I went to Lowes for this one. I'll take that front heft to have a Jacobs chuck just like I did when I ran Makita tools.
Did you set the same clutch setting on both units? Toward the end, when comparing the two units side by side, you are showing completely different clutch settings. That makes this comparison completely useless if you did not match the clutch settings between the two.
Interesting video. It looks like if you put a little bend in the belt clip it will work. I have numerous Kobalt tools and I did not put the belt clip on. Those tools are just too heavy to hang on my belt. I get that they have a use, just not for me. I have what I think you referred to as the older tool. Mine in silver up front whereas the newer one is black up front. BUT.....I bought mine on clearance. For $55 I got the hammer drill, 1/4" impact wrench, 4 ah battery, charger and carry bag. I already had the clutch 24 volt drill but for the price of the clearance package I just could not pass getting it. Barry
Don't force the bits, let them work with the tool and clear out the bits. New tool has a rapid motion shut off in it. Remember that the tool is as good as the user and bits. You are getting better
Honestly the anti kickback or whatever they call that's what also ruins the bosch hammer drill they put to much of a high sensor or a kickback into the drill
Some many reviews I see the people pushing on the tool way to hard....let the tool and the bit your using do the work....your actually slowing it down by doing that....give it a try and toull.see what I'm talking about....i proved it to any people at my job
that's the point. if I use these tools like they are supposed to its not a good review. people want to see stress tests to the max to see what the tool can really handle. if all I did was drive in 3" screw nobody would care
Seen him baby the ryobi line but treat others like subpar junk and do bias reviews. Not fully charged batteries, setting different, forcing tools, hungover angling the tool lol
Can't close the case with the belt clip attached to the drill. Take notes Chervon. Launching all these tool and ope lines (skil 12 , skil20 skil 40, kobalt, kobaly xtr, ego, kobalt ope) , I can see them overlookikg things. Like how you can not use the kobalt angle grinder with the new UO battery, or how the UO batteries doesnt fit on the fan. Which is why it is on sale now for $50. Chervon needs to get their shit together. Especially with this kobalt xtr line. Cant even buy the 5 tool kit set. And they just launched it this year too. Thats not how you do a product launch. Cant even buy the batteries buy themselves yet. Come on Chervon.
I actually really like what im hearing about the xtr series i dont own it nor have i looked at it in person but the specs on most of their tools match up with millwaukee very well
You're running out of brands to buy lol. I would be curious how this compares to the Skil HD Hammer drill though. From what I've seen of a couple other videos, the internals of the XTR line may be identical to the Skil, but we've only seen that on the impact.(although the shells look fairly different, with a larger beavertail on the Skil, more like the first gen Kobalt.) There's also a brand called Erbauer in Europe that released a new lineup that is literally carbon copied Skil in Bosch colors (with exception to the switch on the impact) Those tools rate the hammer drill at 120N.m which is roughly 1060 in/lbs. The Skil is rated at 850in/lbs, and the XTR 1200in/lbs. So if they are all the same components inside, somewhere in that mess is the truth. Of course, the easiest thing to change is the gearing, so that may be different. EDIT I'll have to look into rpm on all of them, but I know the Skil is 550rpm in 1 and so is the XTR, and both are 2000rpm in 2. Both of the hammers operate at 32,000 bpm in speed 2 as well. On the impact, it looks like the Skil literally just has the first 2 modes of the three on the XTR. The skil max is ~2700 rpm with 3400 ipm, whereas those are the same specs for the XTR in speed 2. In speed 3 the XTR goes to ~3400 rpm and 4,000 ipm. I almost wonder if the Skil could be overclocked to those numbers as well. Maybe by putting in the same switch as the XTR if they are indeed identical otherwise.

That is exactly why it was the anti-kickback technology killing the motor. It might help using the handle that is why they give you one with the kit.
