When the LED blinks and the battery needs to be removed/reinstalled to use the tool again, it’s an issue in the trigger switch not being fully released, and the electric brake doesn’t engage, and it then throws a fault code. To fix this….. fully squeeze the trigger, and then slide your finger quickly off of the trigger and just let the trigger ‘snap’ back into place. Problem should be resolved the first time, but it might take a time or two to get the trigger to ‘reseat’ and clear the issue.
I started with the same Kobalt kit. After a couple of years, my driver started behaving the same way. I took it back to Lowe's. They said I had to exchange the entire kit. I ended up getting a whole new kit. The 5 year guarantee date starts all over again. At first they tried to give me the same schtick about 90 day return and then the warranty. I told them, "the box says 5 year guarantee. A warranty is for repair. A guarantee is for replacement". They replaced it. I now have about 16 different Kobalt tools and about 13 chargers and batteries. I'm very pleased with my Kobalt decision.
I have the kobalt 24v Max and some XTR for home use.... I also have Milwaukee M12 and M18 for work as a heavy equipment apprentice mechanic... They are both awesome.... I started with kobalt and had absolutely no complaints on the tools themselves they performed just as good as any other cordless tool my boss had.... However the only reason I made the switch to Milwaukee was the wider range of tools they offer... If kobalt started releasing a wider range of cordless tools i would have stayed with them without any doubts or hesitations..... Kobalt is the best bang for the buck hands down... quality, performance, affordability and a great warranty. I have no regrets purchasing my kobalt tools. I would recommend them to everyone for home use and depending on your trade for professional use as well...just check the tool line up and if every tool you're going to need for your career is there, buy it 👍
Well, this might throw you for a loop, I used to be a Milwaukee fan boy, all kinds of Milwaukee tools, power, hand, and toolbox. I sold all of it and switched to Kobalt because of the quality, power, and cost value compared to Big Red. I couldn't be happier with my choice to switch. What most people don't know is Kobalt is made by the same company that makes Ego yard tools and flex tools. Kobalt is the best value diamond hiding in plain sight... Every tool company will have a defective tool from time to time, the biggest difference is how the warranty is handled. Lowe's again beats Home Depot and Milwaukee hands down. I now have all Kobalt tools, hand tools, power tools, toolbox, lawn equipment and yard hand tools. I have not set foot in a Home Depot for over a year. Lowe's has better customer service, pricing and just makes me feel like a valued customer more then Home Depot and Milwaukee ever did. This is coming from a maintenance technician at an apartment complex... Kobalt is awesome!
I’ve had the 1/2” impact for a year; and it’s been solid. Got the 90 degree 3/8 impact and it’s been great for hard to get to bolts/nuts. Friend borrowed both to work on his 1967 c10 based bus RV and has loved them. Just got the baby 3/8 and it’s been great so far. Have the drill , but not needed it much, so still forming opinion.
I use the kolbalt 24 volt max for my job I jave the drill, impact, palm sander, router, small reciprocating saw, skill saw, multi cutter, vacuum, leaf blower, mini saw, and the grinder. The only issue I have had in about three years since making the switch was during mixing concrete with the drill. I guess it got too hot and just needed to cool down. Everything is still trucking like a champ. Its well worth the money I love them. P.S. original battery is still fully operational after 3 years.
I have every single kobalt power tool. No issues and have been using them for 6 years heavily. I'm a professional home renovator and am very pleased with the brand. Plus I like blue and black more than yellow and black. Their batteries are also better than dewalt and much cheaper.
I'm a semi mechanic and I have just about every Kobalt power tool that I can benefit from (witch is a lot) and I have never had any issue with any of them. I've had them all for about 2 years now and the impacts are still powerful and the batteries are still holding strong. I also use harbor freights Hercules 12 volt line and have no issues with them either. I use them mostly for interior work. To be fair I do have a snap on CT9080 1/2 inch battery impact and a snap on CT9100 3/4 inch battery impact for the really nasty tight stuff. The two snap on tools cost me more than all the Kobalt and Hercules tools combined. Love the Kobalt stuff.
i have used and broken almost every tool ive used, incl ones my work owned, very rarely was it due to abuse, mainly hard use day in day out for months. Longevity and Reliability are far more important than ft lbs and lights and so on, its why every const site has some sort of SKIL worm drive like the MAG77, a dewalt comp. sliding db miter saw, milwaukee sawzall, etc. they DONT have a cordless/corded metabo hpt 36v hammer drill.. or the Bosch Surgeon, etc. ...YET....
I bought into kobalt couple years ago and have loved every one of them with no problems and issues in fact I work at a car dealer ended up with two other drills through different deals I took one to work and told the guys to use it in abusing I want to see how good of a product it is in three years later like I said in a car dealer everyone uses it over top of the Milwaukee love Cobalt
Milwaukee is awesome stuff and, it's also twice as much as kobalt, lol and they get all bent out of shape when kobalt performs just about as good as Milwaukee. Kobalt is a lowly store brand Milwaukee fanboys, why you getting all concerned?
@@nmatthew7469 that's what I see on every video where milwaukee gets beat. It's just a test and doesn't mean all that much in reality, but they take it as a personal attack on their identity
As someone who works at Lowes, I can say Kobalt has a Lifetime Hassle Free Guarantee. If the tool breaks at any point due to a malfunction, you can take it to a Lowes and they have to give you a new one, even if it's past the warranty. In your case, it was a malfunction. You could have sat on that tool for like ten years and exchanged it lol. If you had busted it though through malpractice, it might have been a different story.
@@airmobiledivision7759 work at Lowes customer service desk and that is absolutely not true what OP says.. hand tools yes but power tools you better bring back the whole kit AND better have the receipt or the card used to purchase the items. Yes it is 5 years but make sure you jave some form of proof of purchase. Hand tools garden tools yah bring em in and swap em no problem but power tools are a different story and people thing the lifetime tools warranty for hand tools mens EVERY Kobalt product which is not true. The cool thing is even if its 1 tool out of the kit you can bring it all and get a new one. That or sometimes I will have the customer bring the exact kit and for example in this video he coulda grabbed the new drill only and I would throw the old one in the box and damage it out so he doesn't hve to make a 2nd trip to grab the rest of his combo kit if that's what he wanted to do...
I had a cobalt router that went out after one use and they wouldn’t do anything. They looked at me like I was insane. I immediately switched brand after that
I have had Kobalt for around 4 years now.. they original drill and impact wrench work great..although I am in no way a weekly user of these tools.. but they have never let me down unless I was asking to much of the tool (like using the impact wrench to open lug nuts). I also have the impact driver for it. and it opens the lug nuts all day every day.. so I am impressed with the quality.
I own all the Kobalt impacts. I’ve had the 1/2” for 3 years and the others for about a year. Admittedly, I’m only a weekend mechanic, but they have been through some serious abuse axle nuts, rusty fasteners of every type, etc. I’ve literally never had a problem with them. They put out plenty of power. The batteries hold a charge forever if you go a while between projects. I can’t speak to professional or sustained use, but as a home DIY’er, these have been the best cordless tools I’ve had since I bought my first cordless tool 20 years ago.
I too decided to go with Kobalt a few years ago. No issues to date for me and I’ve added a number of tools since. They’re getting used quite a bit now as I’m finishing my house build. Thanks for doing this…
I have the 24V brushless impact driver; had one fail and had a horrible time getting it replaced, but finally after much finger pointing back and forth between the factory and the Lowe's people, a manager walked me back and got me a new box. It was traumatically painful however getting them to honor their stinking warranty. So I have mixed feelings. Thanks for doing this review.
My whole business is blue wall to wall. Cordless, corded, toolboxes, tool belts … everything in my truck and in my shop is Kobalt. And I love them all.
I love them. I had them since 2016. No problems I got 7 PC saws, drill, impact driver, impact wrench. 2 & 4 amp batteries mainly. I just bought a 8 amp Friday Oct 7, 2022. Now my girlfriend had a 6pc combo 2017. The flashlight went out. 1st Lowes closest to told I had to have the box from 11-26-2017 & bring the combo back. Went to a 2nd Lowe's the lady tried to help but the flashlight is discontinued, she said call Kobalt & see if they send me 1. Got home called Kobalt 2 minutes later with a reference # went to another 1 near my house. Just the flashlight. She refund my 30 bucks & I in turned bought the 2pk- 4 amp batteries.
I worked at Lowes 15 years, used battery powered tools there everyday, we used DeWalt there and I have DeWalt at the house now. Not saying the kobalt isn't good. I had a kobalt air compressor that broke at like 4 months of not even being used much. My own experiences and seeing the revolving door of returns kinda turned me off on kobalt powered stuff.
I work construction and my DeWalt and Milwaukee tools always seemed to walk of the job sites, so I made the switch to kobalt because the batteries are cheaper I've had kobalt for 5 yrs now with no complaints. And they are just as good. And my tools seem to stay on the job site now. I still have the original combo I started with and they are still going strong.
I also have kit. Had a similar issue. Had to replace whole kit.not too bad got a brand new kit. Fresh start i love kit i use it all the time. No issues. With it.
I bought rigid tools from home Depot 7 years ago and have had zero issues. The original battery still work good. DeWalt batteries are dead by now. Ridgid also warranties those batteries for life. I have bought several Mill walkie since then but I'm still a huge fan of rigid.
I own Dewalt almost exclusively. I needed a battery powered sprayer and bought the Kobalt 24 v. 2 gallon Tank sprayer. It crapped out almost immediately. I took it back for an exchange and Lowe’s gladly exchanged for a new one. So far, the second one is okay.
I am a homeowner that is heavily invested in the Milwaukee platform (M12 & M18,) but now have the following Kobalt tools: 80v blower, 40v sprayer, "automotive" ratchet, oscillating multi-tool and heat gun. I haven't had a failure with either brand.
ONE YEAR REAL REVIEW> Used Kobalt for a year in sheetmetal field. The saw is really good, but the impact and the drill both had problems. First they are little bigger and heavier than Dewalt and Milwaukee. Might not notice it if you are just doing it for home use. But if you are like me and use your drills every day you will feel the differance in power and weight. Even though Kobalt is a 24 volt I feel like I get more power out of the Dewalt and Milwaukee 20 volt drills. But the biggest disapointment was just like alot of other people my drills got the over heating electrical problem. Had to keep taking battery out and put it back in to clear tool to use after every trigger pull. So I called up Kobalt since under warranty and told them the problem. Guessing they hear it all the time since they quickly just gave me a return swap number to just go swap my defective drills for new ones. In the end I swapped the defects and just upgraded to Dewalt. Kobalt is good starter tools that can last awhile, but when your job is using them everyday you need the good stuff. And the fact that the Dewalt drill was actually on sale for $99 with 2x batteries and charger compared to $120 for the Kobalt equivalent. It was a no brainer.
Good to hear, just got into the Kobalt ecosystem, I had porter cable before but they don't offer many tools. Once my PC 1/2 Impact took a dump I decided it was a good time to swap over.
When I worked for my Uncles construction company we used a ton of Dewalt, Makita and Milwaukee tools and always had really good luck with them but none of them were cordless tools though due to this being in the 90’s and early 2000’s. In 2003 we moved to a small, rural town and it got its first Home Depot maybe 10 years ago. But Lowe’s is still over and hour to an hour and a half away. If we had a closer Lowe’s, I would love to try out some of their Kobalt tools because I have heard pretty good things about them.
BLINKING LIGHT IS A SAFETY FEATURE GONE ROGUE. I've had the blinking light with the drill but it was during use with a 8" ice fishing auger and the extra hand grip installed up front. There's a "torque" sensor in the drill to keep people from breaking their wrists. Your sensor may have been too sensitive. as I understand it, if the handle of the drill whips around it will cut out. The stall torque on the Kobalt drill approaches my old 750 RPM corded Milwaukee. High power motor with high torque using only an on/off switch. We couldn't let any of the crew use it after incidents resulting in one broken thumb, a sprained wrist and several cords wrapped up around wrists.
I have a craftsman 19.2 v 1/2 impact gun that’s pretty old that does something similar, if I’m using it under heavy use it will just shut off, unplugging the battery and plugging it back in resets it and it works like new again.
I've got 16 24v MAX tools and 8 batteries. I've had them for about 5 years...had one battery die that a lost receipt prevented me from replacing via warranty, but that's the only problem I've had out of any of it. Residential use, but heavy residential use. I work on a ship...all of our stuff there is DeWalt, and we replace tools every few months, but to be fair, that's a hostile environment for power tools, and they're very heavily used. Stay Safe!
I work in the oil field and decided to go with kobalt tools for my tool selections and started out wonderful plenty of power but the tools felt pretty quickly Lowe's wouldn't honor the warranty because I worked in the oil field and they said they were for personal use only. Which in my opinion it was personal use out of my truck doing my own work. So believe it or not I switch to home Depot and Ryobi and have lost plenty of tools to fill your but they always hand me a brand new one no questions asked.. and that my friend priceless
Same thing happened to me with my 24v Max drill will very light use. I exchanged it for a brand new one w/o the receipt. Hopefully this one works for a long time. Great video
Ive had my line of Kobalt 24v Max and some XTRs for home, I have several other items all Kobalt and tools not had any troubles out of any of it, so guess im lucky, had them now on 9 years
Got the XTR skillsaw 2 days ago and the same drill and impact combo. First job the saw did was cut 2 layers of stucco around 8 windows. My only issue so far was not enough battery's. But man I'm glad I bought the extra 4.0ah when I had the spare cash.
I bought the same combo 2 yrs ago with a free multi -tool as a bonus. The 1/4 inch impact is my favorite of the three but love them all... At last count I own 12 tools in this line. One battery had to be replaced but no problems with any tools so far.
I bought this kit, drill/impact, 24v charger and one 24v battery. I got 3½ charges out of the charger and something electronic blew inside the chager. Doesn't matter if either tool is screwed now
That is the amperage overload stop sensor. Its so if youre drilling through steel and the bit bites, it doesnt break your wrist, instead it stalls the drill as an amperage overload. If it is doing this while not under load, the sensor is malfunctioning or you are getting a short somewhere. Many powertool brands use these. But glad they swapped it for you!
I've been using kobalt since 2015 and I have no issues with them. I still be buying kobalt, however I have a mix with milwaukee which is a everyday use
I almost started the kobalt this time around but did DeWalt again. After getting there new mid torque impact wrench im glad I did. Things great especially for being the same size as the last one.
I work as a professional mechanic. I've had to warranty out my 24v brushless 1/2 impact wrench earlier this year. Calling the Kobalt manufacturer ahead and getting a authorization # for the warranty makes that transition a lot smoother. Besides that the tool has worked well for me.
Got mine a little more than a year ago and it now has this same problem. Charging the battery does not fix it. I have never had this problem with my other drills.
I absolutely love Kobalt with a side note of Dewalt here and there. I've had the same dual Kobalt drills for about 4 or 5 years and they've never failed me. Built everything from pens to a couple garages with zero issues. Sorry to see people having issues with them. Maybe quality changes??
Mine has a similar issue with it, if I double click it. Example of double click;. I'm drilling a hole out and I'm drilling for 7 second and for whatever reason I let off the trigger for a split second and immediately pull on the trigger it won't go and will do the blinking light thing until until I let go trigger completely for a full second or so. Then it's good to go. Everytime I double tap it it immediately does that. Other then that I absolutely love the drill. Quick story on how I got it and at an amazing deal. Been eye balling the drill for a year plus. 1vWeek before Christmas I seen they had a special on the drill. It consisted of a 2.0 battery, a 4.0 battery, charger and a bag. They had it priced at $139.99, I seen that price and I decided I was going to come back and get one at that price while they were still had it sometime that week. I didn't make it there that week I made it there on the 27th of December and I was looking for it everywhere and couldn't find it low and behold they ended up having five left they're on a display in the middle of the aisle that I had overlooked well when I went over I had exactly enough money just to buy the price of 13999 plus tax, you're lucky me when I got assistance finding it the price for that item was a Christmas special price and it had changed cause Christmas was over. Lucky me as it was though, the ball was definitely in my court because the price of not gone back up $199.99 like they were over on the shelf at regular price, the price on this 5 is actually $71.98 a piece. Well since I planned on buying just the one at $140+tax, I went ahead and bought two of them, cuz why not now I have 2 bags, 2 chargers, 2 drills and 4 batteries (2-2.0 & 2-4.0). And seeing how the 4.0 batteries alone by themself we're somewhere in the range of $139.99 a piece, I could have left the good old thinking brain at home with no need to consult with it and figured that one out. So what a great late Christmas gift to myself. Side note; both drills actually function the same way. Also the charger that came with the drill is fine, at least I thought it was until I came across a quick charger at a different Lowe's at a reduced price of $29.99 down from $139.99 (don't ask me why everything is seemingly priced at $139.99), then it register again a no-brainer it was only $19.99! 4.0 dead battery charge time; Charger unit came with drill [120+ mins] New quick charge [23-25 mins]
Great vid. Got to replace a cheap corded drill that grew legs and walked off. Got the Kobalt blower, and some batteries and did not know about the return option. You sold me!
For me the blinking white light is related to the trigger. If I get the blinking white light I "snap" the trigger a couple tiimes and it goes back to normal. just pull the trigger in and let it snap back out. Other folks have observed the same thing.
I've been using the 24V MAX lawn stuff and so far it has worked really well. The 24V battery also lets my little guy zip around on his electric 4wheeler pretty quickly. I would like to see something about continued use of the 3/8" compact impact guns.
bought new set, sales person told me keep receipt 5 year warranty on product bring whole thing to exchange it, although seems very powerful drill i ever got and battery still long(bought 4amp battery too)
I own the kobalt right angle impact wrench, xtr hammer drill, and the polisher. Every last one of them sound like they didn't put enough grease in the gear box, they are loud which means that they are wearing at abnormal rates.
I had the same experience with a warranty at Lowes. I think they train the floor employees to try and get out of an exchange. I had to wait like 45 minutes until a manager arrived to finally go through the warranty exchange process. Took over an hour. Very annoying.
I have a wide variety of the Kobalt 24v tools and love them. I have brought back two of those drills, one of them for the flashing light problem and the other physically broke. (Might have been my fault). My Lowes exchanged them without an issue.
During the “flashback” to the previous video, That is a safety feature. That way when you’re gripping it, it doesn’t snap your wrist. Hold the drill wide open, the turn the drill 90 degrees and it’ll shut off. Every time.
My first cordless tool was a 3/4 drive Milwaukee Rattle gun I needed for work. So I just stayed with Milwaukee. In the end they all good but once you start you need to stay with that brand. Choose well . Good to see good warranty.i very rarely use any air tools or corded tools any more
Had this same problem today. Tool was 1 year old and wouldn’t stop blinking. Took it to Lowe’s today and after1 hour they finally decided to trade me for the next gen since they don’t make that model anymore.
I had same problem with the drill. Lowe's made me return the kit, which was a 6 piece combo, no longer available. The only option they gave me was to return the entire kit for store credit. I used the credit to get a Metabo kit.
I bought a hart drill / impact driver combo from walmart, and I gotta say, they're holding up great! I previously got a couple ratchet/socket kits from them and was very impressed with how they held up, the quality of the ratchets and sockets are pretty good. Meanwhile I had to fork out ~$250 for a milwaukee cordless shop vacuum (the one that looks like a tall rectangle) and a bigger battery (sold separately), It doesn't last very long on the higher setting, and not having a cord to supplement that really brings it down. Wouldn't say that's a milwaukee thing, just sucks to have to charge the battery basically every time i use it.
same thing been happening to me since day one. since i lost the receipt, i never bothered to take it back. 5 years in, still no fix.I'm gonna try to take it back.
Been using the kobalt line for about 4 yrs then switched to milwaukee m12 line for work. Huge difference in feel and weight performace. Planning to sell my kobalt and upgrade to m18 line
@@nmatthew7469 the only thing kobalt has is its more powerfull then the m12 but not by much and kobalts are big and bulky. M12 has better power to weight ratio, more compact, better ergonomics, way bigger product line in just milwaukees m12 line compared to kobalt. Kobalt did all the tasks i asked for but it was just too bulky and heavy for me.
I'm stuck in the 18v Dewalt camp at the moment so I can't say much till I change battery platforms, but what I've heard is that while Kobalt is China made as a whole, Lowes is paying to have the stuff made with a higher quality than most of your other store brands out there. My neighbor bought a Kobalt 3 drawer toolbox for his grandson a few years back and he found it to have the quality as the Craftsman toolbox next shelf over. No clue how much the kid uses it, but I hear it's holding up fine. Also, I don't remember where I heard this, but what usually happens in the combo kits is one or more of the tools is the low end version of what is on the shelf individually. Some manufacturers list the model numbers on the box so you can compare to the other stuff on the shelf. Don't know if that's still a thing, but it was a few years back.
Very interesting.. I had not heard that about the combo packs. So far I am happy overall with the Kobalt experience. If this next drill lasts I will consider this episode a fluke
@@DEInTheGarage I heard that thing about the combo packs about ten years ago, so you can take it with a grain of salt. As for your experience with your warranty return at Lowes, yes it may be a fluke, but sharing that experience is invaluable to anyone else who has a similar problem. I kinda wonder if you would have gotten the same treatment if you said, It's on my Lowes card instead of producing the receipt. And I wonder if the model number on the drills match what's available in store as a tool only.
I bought into the Kobalt line a few months ago with Dewalt as my secondary platform. I'm just a weekend warrior, but have no complaints. Also, who cares what the people who don't have Kobalt are saying? If the folks that have bought Kobalt are the ones saying to buy-in that carries a lot more weight with me. 👍
It probably got some moisture in the board , mine did that I let it dry in my car two days while I was at work and it started working again. I’ve had mine for 4 years now :D
I've had the Kobalt drill for a few years now and use it daily and only problem o have with it is it'll randomly stop then go again but its also took a few good size drops
Got lucky, the lowes customer service I’ve dealt with has been pathetic. I’ve found it best to call Kobalt who’s customer service is phenomenal, have them create an “exchange” and get a reference number from them, take it with you to Lowes and the interaction at lowes goes much smoother. They cannot dispute it if you’ve got that reference # from Kobalt themselves. Great power tools though, hopefully the line expands.
I had issues with kobalt miter saw warranty replacement. They demanded that I go through the manufacture (Kobalt) but kobalt to told me to swap it out at the store. After a long run around I got my new replacement at the store but I was not happy at all since this took several days of going back and forth. Lowes was not very helpful.
Dewalt owner here. Switching to Kobalt specifically because when I had this exact issue (hammer drill died after 6 mos) I found out I had to PAY to get it replaced under warranty. As a professional, I need to be able to rely on my tools, so if I can get same day service? That’s driving my decisions going forward.
I have switched to Kobalt and love them , the batteries are much cheaper and of the same quality of dewalt and Milwaukee. I have also had to warranty out both Dewalt and Milwaukee tools as well, as new or with little use on them as well, they are electrical, that’s just the nature of the beast….
actually ran into the same thing with my first kobalt drill. got to the point it would do the blinking light thing, warrantied it out, next one worked flawlessly for a year and a half, and just today it decided to break the drill head retainer screw while i was trying to back out a bolt that was just a little too stuck. Sad day
The regular brushless line is decent but the xtr 24 volt kobalt tools are very very good for the price I use them everyday as I work in the hvac field and I’ve never had a problem with returning broke tools or replacing tools and the drill if you smack it with a hammer she will fire right back up lol
Exact same thing happened to my Kobalt drill after about 5 months of home use. I decided to try Kobalt even though my Milwaukee was still working after 10 years but was beat up but still working just wanted to try the Kobalt. Like you said it put a bad taste in my mouth, and they did replace it. But at this moment I am about to buy the Milwaukee 18volt multi tool for 99.00 although it's not brushless I feel it will still out last the Kobalt.
The blinking LED is usually an indicator that the battery is low and should be recharged. I have $2500 (more or less) worth of Koblat cordless 24V tools and batteries. I've had to return a couple for various reasons. I've had no problems returning my own. Had the same challenge returning a 1/4" impacter for a friend. Manager handled it the same way and I went away happy.
if i could afford Milwaukie i would buy em.. we have them where i work and they are awesome.. but i got Kobalt everything at home.. the only thing ive noticed is the battery's start to fail right after the 3 year warranty runs out.. other then that ive have had great luck with them!
In my experience Kobalt tools either fail early or last a long time. I had to return 2 of 5 tools and the replacements are good. On a drill the selector switch broke and an oscillating saw safety switch got stuck.
I had the same exact issue with the same drill however mine would do the blinking light issue every time I would let go of the trigger and I'd have to remove battery before beginning work again. and they wouldn't return it without me having the receipt 3 MONTHS LATER! So I bought a new set and returned the old one with the new receipt. Say what you want about me but I don't think "hassle free" should've been such a hassle so I did what I did.
I have Milwaukee and Kobalt tools...I have had to return tools of each brand...matter of fact, I have a Milwaukee pump that needs to be returned right now...and this will be a second time return for the pump. When I returned it the first time, they just replaced it with a new one...now, the replacement has to be returned.
FWIW Lowe's isn't the manufacturer, it's Chervon who also makes Skil, Ego and Flex.. im mainly on Ridgid BUT since working at Lowe's now I come up on some steal of a deals for tools so I am sort half way invested in Kobalt.. have 5 batteries and about 5 tools now. All of my saws are Ridgid but like the Kobalt mist fan, right angle impact and 2 gallon sprayer are items that Ridgid didnt have. Also got a screaming deal on a string trimmer with battery, charger and a clearance impact, drill combo for like $45 so id be stupid to not get into some Kobalt 24v tools for those prices.
I'm a Milwaukee guy for sure, that being said, I'm not one of those stereotypical "fanboys" or "tool bros". I chose my battery platform because of their quality and their warranty and I hear mixed things but more so that they're hassle free despite having to send your stuff in. I see value in other brands because at the end of the day, all tools can fail, have factory defects or down right make some things that suck. I've heard a lot of things about Kobalt tools and I don't care that they're labelled or marketed as "prosumer" tools. They feel great, look great, the mother company Chervon seems happy with their sales enough to keep investing in them, I would recommend them to someone who wants to get into a platform but doesn't want to kill their bank account right off the bat. Does it matter if I haven't used them for work and tested them out for months? I don't think so because enough people have done that and generally speaking, more people are happy with the tools than are those with a sour taste.
Personally my power tools are makita but i have a truck load of kobalt hand tools and i love them, my makita set is a few years old now so looking to purchase a new set soon, been looking at the kobalt and a guy at work has hercules and they really surprised me with the power and quality that they put into the hercules line up, only kicker is the hercules batteries are high dollar, i can buy 2 makita 5.0 Ah for the price of one 2.0 Ah hercules battery but the makita tools are high dollar
I would recommend them to everyone for home use and depending on your trade for professional use as well...just check the tool line up and if every tool you're going to need for your career is there, buy it 👍
Can you name a few thay kobalt doesn't offer? I'm curious now haha
I agree I love this brand. I never had and issue either
i have used and broken almost every tool ive used, incl ones my work owned, very rarely was it due to abuse, mainly hard use day in day out for months.
Even for power tools? I thought the lifetime warranty applies only to the hand tools.
What about the charger that charged 3½ times
I had a cobalt router that went out after one use and they wouldn’t do anything. They looked at me like I was insane. I immediately switched brand after that
Bullchit, definitely depends on which lows you go to ,, some them have become nothing but a dog park for fat women and it sucks
No issues. With it.
I got my cordless 3/8 kobalt impact around 7-8 years ago still strong and works great.
So far, the second one is okay.
i’ve been using them for 3 years and my drill just now had this problem just it does it every time BUT i still love kobalt still hold my word by them
I am a homeowner that is heavily invested in the Milwaukee platform (M12 & M18,) but now have the following Kobalt tools: 80v blower, 40v sprayer, "automotive" ratchet, oscillating multi-tool and heat gun. I haven't had a failure with either brand.
ONE YEAR REAL REVIEW>
Used Kobalt for a year in sheetmetal field.
At the end of the day, not terrible. Just a little inconvenient
Great video
Have used my kobalt drill for 3 1/2 years now has been dropped off of roofs and left out in the rain for countless days and she still works great
Ive had my line of Kobalt 24v Max and some XTRs for home, I have several other items all Kobalt and tools not had any troubles out of any of it, so guess im lucky, had them now on 9 years
Got the XTR skillsaw 2 days ago and the same drill and impact combo.
Doesn't matter if either tool is screwed now
Did you exchange for new or just move on to a different brand?
I just bought dewalt yesterday still in box..im returning tomorrow and getting Kobalt stuff i like the warranty
Had same problem, it's in the trigger mechanism let go of the trigger fast it will pop and still work
That is the amperage overload stop sensor.
Appreciate the technical answer.
Hey I just got a bunch of kobalt tools and lost my receipt like a jackass…
Do you need a receipt for the warranty through Kobalt?
Side note;
both drills actually function the same way.
Also the charger that came with the drill is fine, at least I thought it was until I came across a quick charger at a different Lowe's at a reduced price of $29.99 down from $139.99 (don't ask me why everything is seemingly priced at $139.99), then it register again a no-brainer it was only $19.99!
4.0 dead battery charge time;
Charger unit came with drill [120+ mins]
New quick charge [23-25 mins]
Great vid. Got to replace a cheap corded drill that grew legs and walked off. Got the Kobalt blower, and some batteries and did not know about the return option. You sold me!
Had a guy buy all pink tools when craftsmen sold them years ago. Said his hand tools stopped magically getting lost or walking off after that 😂
For me the blinking white light is related to the trigger.
That is a huge +++, going to the store and not having an issue when the manager got involved. That's is how it should be, no hassle
bought new set, sales person told me keep receipt 5 year warranty on product bring whole thing to exchange it, although seems very powerful drill i ever got and battery still long(bought 4amp battery too)
I was glad to find your video about problem with drill....
Mine is doing the same....i git ut second hand so i am glad i dont use it everyday...
,
I own the kobalt right angle impact wrench, xtr hammer drill, and the polisher.
Every time.
I couldn't get this to work. Maybe I'm doing what you said wrong.
Mine did the exact same thing and my negative prong was loose and just needed to be put back in place.
The best thing about the video is the Barbasol air freshener in the car. I love those!
same thing been happening to me since day one. since i lost the receipt, i never bothered to take it back. 5 years in, still no fix.I'm gonna try to take it back.
Been using the kobalt line for about 4 yrs then switched to milwaukee m12 line for work. Huge difference in feel and weight performace. Planning to sell my kobalt and upgrade to m18 line
M12 is twice as much, it should be better.
Love kobalt and the XTR line is awesome I use the polisher to buff my cars runtime is awesome on it got the sds really cheap and good
I bought into the Kobalt line a few months ago with Dewalt as my secondary platform.
Hey cheers man, glad we could find our way to your eyeballs :P
Thank you for the video. How are the tools working out now?
actually ran into the same thing with my first kobalt drill. got to the point it would do the blinking light thing, warrantied it out, next one worked flawlessly for a year and a half, and just today it decided to break the drill head retainer screw while i was trying to back out a bolt that was just a little too stuck. Sad day
I believe the drill is under a new part number now so its possible they have revised it
The regular brushless line is decent but the xtr 24 volt kobalt tools are very very good for the price I use them everyday as I work in the hvac field and I’ve never had a problem with returning broke tools or replacing tools and the drill if you smack it with a hammer she will fire right back up lol
I have the 3/8ths ratttle gun and the grinder, you need both. I have the 7 1/4 circ saw.
Wondering on how the replacement set is holding up. Let me know, thanks bud
Thanks! Helped tremendously 👍🏼👍🏼
Do you have a review on the half inch impact
Nothing yet, but if that is something you’d be looking for we can do a head-to-head with the DeWalt we have
@@DEInTheGarage I love to see that I’m in the market of buying a impact and I would love to see a head to head
Now that you’ve exchanged the tool for a new one does the 3 year warranty reset?
if i could afford Milwaukie i would buy em.. we have them where i work and they are awesome.. but i got Kobalt everything at home.. the only thing ive noticed is the battery's start to fail right after the 3 year warranty runs out.. other then that ive have had great luck with them!
Honestly, me too! I have loved all my Kobalt cordless gear so far
Dewalt is yellow colored Black & Decker just like Rigid is orange colored Ryobi. If you're comparing the best it's Milwaukee and Makita.
great video ! thanks for letting us know ! I would figure it would be 100% easy to get an exchange
Hey what kind of problem did they have to get by in order to give you your replacement. Please tell me more about it.
Great review! Thank you
Personally my power tools are makita but i have a truck load of kobalt hand tools and i love them, my makita set is a few years old now so looking to purchase a new set soon, been looking at the kobalt and a guy at work has hercules and they really surprised me with the power and quality that they put into the hercules line up, only kicker is the hercules batteries are high dollar, i can buy 2 makita 5.0 Ah for the price of one 2.0 Ah hercules battery but the makita tools are high dollar
I use ryobi 18v platform for years....with no issues except batteries go bad if u let them sit without using it
Buy the inflator....u can use it as blower to clean your work area
I have the exact same issue with my Drill, I dont think I will get it replaced though
has the replacement been ok since this video?
