I worked at Lowe’s and that’s how I got into the 24v line. They may have started for the middle brand market but they’re slowly trying to get contractors and professionals to use them. I don’t beat my tools up all that much but they’re very handy for the price point.

I have Kobalt half inch impact 24V. Bought on sale, which led to buying the weed eater on sale, and led to buying the chainsaw. The chainsaw and weed eater use the same battery and are great for light duty use. The impact takes my truck tires off with ease and even my rear shocks.

Bought the blue recip saw, charger and battery. Came with another free battery. One of the batteries would get hot and not allow me to recharge. Quick trip to Low ez and instantly another battery. I did not mark the new battery or the old one but one of them is doing the same thing. The saw is a newer version to what you have and it is a beast! I too cut up pallets for firewood. I made a jig/clamp that holds the pallet vertical in front of me and zip down through it. I can make a pallet shrink into pieces in under 2 minutes. I've used circular saws, chainsaws for the same purpose and non compare to the blue recip saw. Carbide 12" blade for "nail embedded" wood that I find cheap on e bay lasts forever. I wish I could show you some pics but haven't figured out how to do that here. Thanks for the excellent video, I agree with you 100%.

I’m on the kobalt platform bc of your first Kobalt video. I bought a bauer cordless impact from harbor freight to do axle work on my WJ. The Bauer wouldn’t break the lug nuts used so I returned it and tried to get the earthquake one. The store didn’t have it so I hopped on here and watched your video along with the TTC. Drove 30 mins to the nearest Lowes and bought the 1/2” impact wrench. I love it. I bought the drill and 1/4” impact driver and even bought some yard tools like the leaf blower and string trimmer. I wanna get the angle grinder and lawn mower. I’m a harbor freight fan boy and will defend the hand tools to my death, the stuff with cords and batteries I’d probably reconsider buying. I’m not sure if you know this or not but Ryobi and Milwaukee are made by the same company in the same factory and it makes me laugh when Milwaukee guys crap on Ryobi. They are the same tools with different packaging.

I'm a contractor of 28 years, 2017 I bought my first kobalt set primarily out of curiosity. I still have that set to this day. With the original batteries that still charge and hold a charge just as long as my brand new batteries. Cobalt batteries are absolutely amazing. And yes I will say my cobalt tools have basically outperformed my DeWalt tools. I am not a fan of DeWalt batteries whatsoever. They're junk and your bed still you got to change them out every year or two. I do also carry the Milwaukee platform for the last 2 years. Only because I know a guy that sells them really cheap brand new. But my Cobalt tools have never ever ever let me down. For the money there isn't a tool on the market that can compare... I do prefer Milwaukee tools, but kobalt is a very close second

Good to hear, I was using my DeWalt drill driver the other when smoke started billowing out of it 😡. Researched new ons and Kobalt kept coming up high for their money and Lowes was running a special where their drill driver was on sale with 4Amp battery & charger, got an additional 10% off through my veteran discount and lastly offering an additional 4 Amp battery so it was a no brainer. Been great so far and even picked up an impact. For what I do these have been fantastic and great to hear a pro backs them.

Love the Kobalt platform. They had the best price / warranties when I first went with them. I was tired of the HF platform (at that time) because they were crap. No power and the batteries didn't last. I've gotten a few bad Kobalt 24V tools and had no problems exchanging them. I have duplicates I keep in my vehicle to make it easy. I've purchased all of mine new so I probably have more into them than you. But still way less than team yellow or team red if purchased new. As for Crapsman, forget about them rising from the ashes. Sears is almost gone and they sold off the Crapsman name years ago. It has become a "filler" brand for every big box store out there. Everybody and their mother sells them. I have also switched to Kobalt hand tools and love the price performance value they offer compared to tool truck tools. I make a living with my tools and still can't justify the cost of the tool truck brands. If a tool has a lifetime warranty, the best price wins. And I don't have to wait a week to replace a broken tool, Lowes is less than 5 minutes away. I also don't have to pay double a stupid high price to keep a spare until the tool truck shows up. IMHO.
    God bless and stay well.

I currently use all Craftsman RP series V20 line of tools. I have only been using them for about 2 years and I can say they have not let me down. I think Craftsman ( SBD ) is doing a great job on their line of tools. Again enjoyed the video. CHeers!

Give Big B a whirl. Pretty solid tools overall. Also look at HFs warranties. If i recall correctly its a....5 year warranty on brushless tools and 3 on the batteries. The big advantage of their warranty like you said is easy access. You have a problem you walk in they give you a new tool. No waiting on the tool to come back

I mean, as far as the same tools/different branding goes; Stanley-Black&Decker bought Craftsman for $900 Million back in 2017. (Not a typo.) They did it because originally they had Porter Cable. Wanted to position _that_ brand as direct competition to TTI's RIDGID brand. But a combination of not heavily investing in Porter Cable, along with consumers clearly showing no interest in the brand caused Stanley-Black&Decker to basically abandon Porter Cable outright. (I think there's like 8 or 9 cordless power-tools on Porter Cable's entire battery system. With their corded angle-grinder being that brand's best tool.)
Main thing is, Craftsman was acquired to be the new competitor to RIDGID. And, having spend $900 Million on the brand, you know S-B&D is going to invest heavily to make the brand work! Yes, I have noticed at least a couple of Craftsman tools are blatantly DeWALT models with a red paint-job instead of yellow. Craftsman's pruning chainsaw is literally a red color swap for DeWALT's very distinctive-looking saw. Craftsman's corded palm sander is again, the DeWALT version but minus a variable speed adjust knob. Both versions made in the same factory in Mexico. Red Craftsman sander $30 cheaper than the yellow DeWALT version. So what's your favorite color? Red or yellow, and would you like to save some money along the way?

I don’t use them daily but they all still work fine, including the batteries! They have held up great and drive a 1/4 in screw easily into a 2 x 8.

Great real-world review, thanks! I’m in the same boat. Needed some decent power tools during COV1D and read about Kobalt’s XTR lineup and found the entire kit on sale for $250 with 4ah Ultimate Battery. I was planning on just using them till I jumped on the Red/Yellow train until I need a fan and some lights for camping. I planned to invest in Big Red/Yellow… but the Kobalt fan (at the time) was the best… as were the lights. They were all phenomenal and well thought through (especially the rotating head handheld LED). I keep planning on leaving Kobalt but now that I own most of their tools and they all perform exceptionally, l’ll just stay where I’m at. I even bought a 2nd set of the XTR in December… they had the 4 piece kit plus an extra $250 tool for $199… add them up, it was nearly a $600 deal! The Kobalt Gen2 Brushless is 90% of what the XTR is, my boys now have their own set. Highly recommend them now. This week’s story… I needed an orbital sander and couldn’t remember if Kobalt had any, so I checked out Project Farm, and low and behold, the Kobalt took 2nd place… since it was on sale for $15 off, I bought it the same day lol.
You can tell Lowes is not promoting them as hard as Craftsman, and since they were largely designed by Chervon (Flex), they are pushing that line first… BUT it’s all getting there… even their cases feel sturdier than most of the others… a bit more “simple” perhaps, but I personally prefer the cost-to-simplicity-to-performance ratio.
Thanks again, great video. To anyone out there interested, I’m not a pro, but a very active pro-sumer with 3 boys that uses these tools daily, and uses them hard.
I have the same problem with Greenworks lol. Keep wanting them to fail to buy into E-GO, but they are just awesome… just saw that Wally’s picked up their 60v lineup… highly recommend them also.
Have to admit I love DeWalt’s Flexvolt concept though.

What got me started on Kobalt was ice fishing. My Kobalt XTR hammer drill has been poking 10" holes through 24" of ice with no issues for years. The batteries also seem to be good in very cold weather. While only being a home user, that drill has taken some abuse. I've also got their XTR 1/4" impact, and XTR sawzall. I get all my spare batteries new on Ebay.

I bought the Xtr hammer drill early December 2020 for use with 8 inch ice fishing auger. After 3 years it died just a month ago. I still had the receipt and the standard warranty on it was 5 years. I took it back to Lowe's and they swapped it out for a new one so now I have a brand new one again! When I originally bought it I got so because it was the highest torque hammer drill I could find on sale for a good price at the time. It has worked great for my ice fishing needs

I had a Yellow & Black drill and the drill itself was fine for the longest time, but the battery was the real problem on it. Got a replacement battery, had issues with that one. Got a replacement for the replacement, same problem. Decided on the recommendation of someone else i knew to try a kobalt instead, and its worked great for the past 5-6 years. Since then, I've gotten many more tools in that line, and they have done very well, no problems at all! When I started wrenching full time I bought the same 1/2 impact gun, with the expectation that I would upgrade to probably in Milwaukee in a number of months When I found it necessary. Time went on and I just didn’t find it necessary, I ended up using that impact for almost 2 years before I finally upgraded to the Milwaukee.. Did everything I asked of it. Now it lives a comfortable life in my truck toolbox as my back up. And that second mortgage joke was more factual than not.

Man I just want to add to this conversation with a couple more items, I half heartedly baught the 48v self propelled mower. It uses two 24v batteries and I am pleased with how much run time I get and what it will go through. Along with that I have the string trimmer, the 8 inch blade extension pole saw and the 12 inch small chain saw. Everything has worked above my expectations. With having so many tools on the 24v platform I have batteries everywhere so it works out great!! For home use I definitely recommend and with the 3 three year warranty there is no reason not to use it for commercial usage.

Hi I appreciate this video. I am wondering if I should return my Metabo drill kit and switch to Kobalt for the better chuck. But I want to know how to repair a broken corner on a fiberglass hood? Do you have videos? This is a very large 1971 Mustang hood that was mistreated at a dyno shop. They denied it of course. Anyways I heard to insert a nail or something into a drilled hole and then wrap some cloth and resin around the nail and then smooth out extra material to surface of the body panel

i just purchased the XTR line of Kobalt on Saturday after doing a lot of research. it was down to Kobalt and Flex - both are made by Chervon so I chose the kobalt since I got 6 tools and two 4.0 Max batteries and a charger for a little less than $900; what it would have cost to get the 4 tool stacked lithium Flex tool set and a recip saw. Batteries would have been another $200. looking forward to using them. upgraded from my porter cable brushed tools. as for Craftsman, they are now owned by Stanley B&D which owns DeWalt - I have heard that the Brushless tools may be the lower end DeWalt BL rebranded.

I have some of the kobalt 40v tools for yard work and i like them. They old gen get really cheap when the new models come out. Ive only had an issue with one battery and it was fron the open box string trimmer that was $85. They have a 3 year battery guarantee and they hobered it. No sending in the old battery amd no shipping charges. And there are even youtube videos that show how to fix the battery. I've been curious about the 24v line for a while now.

I switched to Kobalt several years ago. For me what drove the decision was battery pricing. I wanted to go Milwaukee, but the tool cost was expensive and $159 for a battery? No way.....When I got the Kobalt tools I went back to Lowe's and found a bunch of the 2.0 AHr batteries in the clearance pile for $10. Then later got a bunch of 4.0 AHr batteries for $40 a piece. I'm a weekend warrior/homeowner who doesn't make money with his tools. Good enough for me. As an aside, I also now have the 24V string trimmer and have a push mower that runs on the 24V as well. Both are great tools........The 24V platform is the bomb.

This was the first battery tools I bought. They work very well, thought this was going ot take off. Well they didn't take off, limited batteries, and warranty through Lowe's is the worst. The current 24V tools I have which were sparingly used the last 6 years, still work. Only complaint is the lock on recip saw is loose and I have duct tape it. Drill/Driver has been fine. The circ saw was the most used tool, its very good. Overall, not great, but ok.

I have been pretty happy with my Kobalt stuff. I got the XTR line and am glad I got that over the regular line, but I also use tools more than the average homeowner. In my experience Kobalt is a pretty big step up from Royobi. The only downside is that the variety of tools is pretty low compared to other brands.

From my view it seems like Lowes (the main major dealer for Craftsman?) and Stanley Black & Decker (current owners of Craftsman, also owners of Dewalt) are positioning the current Craftsman line to compete with say Ryobi in the higher end/weekend warrior segment and Kobalt seems to be, atleast more so then before and especially with their xtr line, marketed to a slightly higher grade of value minded contractors/pros similar to say Rigid at Home Depot is. Personally I've always been a big fan of most Kobalt stuff Ive gotten over the years and recently I got on their 40v outdoor equipment line. I use and love bosch 18v tools but I had really considered getting into the Kobalt 24v line.

But I’m just a diy guy and needed reassurance that my choice was fine. You provided that! So thanks, man!

The big corpos dont share factories, but the brands within do. A great example is the current 2 hammer drills from ridgid. The 800inlb model is the exact same as the ryobi with some slight tuning in the control unit. The high torque 1250inlb is a detuned milwaukee fuel. The xtr line from kobalt was a test bed for flex. Some craftsman v20 tools are actually old dewalt tools mold for mold and part for part, just red wirh a craftsman stamp in the housing.
So considering kobalt sharing a parent company with flex and ego, the quality is there for the price. TTI brands have the wicked quality control issues, but balls to the wall performance to compensate, and the SB&D brands have absolutely nothing special about them, just function.
Then you have some wildcards like makita, hitachi, greenworks, snapon, and festool who are either really cheap or really expensive and quality varies wildly model to model

I've never tried the Kobalt stuff, but I wouldn't be opposed to them. I've been fleshing out my DeWalt collection, but honestly have multiple different battery platforms. My oldest being Porter Cable 18V stuff, which is still kickin'. Then there's DeWalt 20v and 12v, a no-name 12v cordless ratchet, and the Greenworks 80v stuff for outdoor equipment like lawnmowers and chainsaws and such. Glad to hear the Kobalt is working out for ya'. BTW, Milwaukee, Ridgid, & Ryobi are all from same manufacturer. DeWalt, Mac, Craftsman are all part of Stanley Black & Decker (I believe Porter Cable last was also, but I think they buried that line when they bought Craftsman). Then Kobalt I believe shares manufacturing with the brand Flex and Greenworks if I recall correctly.

Im mainly on Ridgid for the 18v and up platform but as a Lowe's employee i have been getting stupid good clearance deals on Kobalt so im kinda getting on their line.. for example un Winter I got the brushless 24v weed eater with 2 4ah batteries and charger for $18. It was on clearance as a nonstock item AND we get 75% off clearance price.. got the same impact and drill kit for $45 so id be a fking moron to not get em.
Im not super brand loyal when it comes to tool deals. I didn't need a 4th weed eater or 3rd set of drill/impact but hey what the hell. The M12 line is my 3rd most invested into line with like 4-5 items.
As long as those Lowe's clearancee pop up on Kobalt I will continue to buy.. great tools thus far and has made it where i dont mind buying a few tools at retail since i paid soo little. Got a 2 gal pump sprayer with battery and charger so now im up to 4 batteries and 5 tools on Kobalt. Most my cutting tools are still Ridgid.
FYI for yall is amazon sells adapters for X brand that fits Y tool for example, i got ryobi and m18 adapter to work with my Ridgid batterys since i saw a few "specialty" tools at a good deal so im not as forced into a platform. Sorry for the long rant. Cheers
